We came here for a little weekend getaway, and we were blown away at how good the food and drinks were. My wife and I are foodies, and we have gone on vacations specifically to eat at certain chefs restaurants, the food here for dinner was comparable to some James Beard winners we have eaten at. The room was very cozy and we enjoyed not having a TV. This place was the perfect way to get away from the electronic leashes of modern life. It was a great little minimalist getaway, and sometimes that is exactly what life needs. It's hard to describe how nice it was to go somewhere and just enjoy the escape from the industrial world.Rooms: Very Victorian and extremely quiet.Food & drinks: The food was such a hidden gem, the drinks are perfect, it was a great meal.

We came in from East, map took us on dirt road couple miles, nothing bad. If you come from west it's all paved. Receptionist very friendly, rooms are named after historic people. Beautiful wood work, warm rooms. And quiet. Near by stream adds to the ambianceToo bad coffee is ready at 8, I left before 7.

This place will always hold a special spot in my heart. While driving back to SLC on I-80 west I encountered a horrible winter storm with the scariest driving conditions at night (the highway ended up closing). I was able to pull off on the Elk Mountain exit (although to be honest the conditions were so bad I couldn't even see which exit I was getting off at). I googled if there were any hotels nearby and the Historic Elk Mountain Hotel was the only hotel in 40+ miles. I was able to get through to them by calling and they opened up the hotel for me to say the night. The service/hospitality and hotel itself were exceptional. Although I was not intending to stay here, it was a beautiful hotel and can't recommend it more!

First off I have to say this was by far the the highest quality of customer service we have received on our travels. They went above and beyond for our diabetic child and made sure we were very comfortable. The food was amazing and overall we had a great stay. I do want to say we were given a pet friendly room and it wasn't disclosed to us that there were glue traps and mouse repellent in the room. Our little dog stepped in a glue trap and definitely ruined our night a little.

So here is an update. We did stay the weekend this time. Room 10 did not disappoint. We had the hotel to ourselves and if you want a peaceful rest this is it. We came for the "bumps in the night".and we were not disappointed. It is a beautiful historic hotel that is run and cared for by people who love it. We are already planning our next weekend getaway. Hopefully the Evans suite will be our next room stay. A huge thank you to all your staff including the fantastic restaurant. Food was amazing. Thank you again.Rooms: The rooms are decorated for the period they were designed for so lots of antiques.Food & drinks: The restaurant is in-house and food is delicious. The staff are caring and helpful.Noteworthy details: Be prepared for a quiet stay. No electronic entertainment in room but fast wifi.

I live in Elk Mountain and don t stay but I support the restaurant and eat there as often as possible. The staff is friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is amazing. It s clean and quiet and peaceful. And most importantly the food is top notch. Honestly better steaks and food than most of the bigger chain restaurants. I recommend you stop and eat and possibly stay at any chance you get. It would be great support for the Hotel.

Seriously was a great stay. Rooms and bathrooms were extremely clean and well maintained. The checkin folks were extremely kind. Made our kid feel welcome with a rubber ducky for the tub. He showered without a fuss which rarely happens. They even gave us an extra set of bedding and a floor mat for him to sleep on the floor. We are definitely going to go back to Elk Mountain and stay here again. Awesome!

This place is a hidden gem. My truck broke down on interstate 80 right before a big winter storm hit, which left me stranded trying to get a tow. I discovered this place looking on Google maps. I called them and they even came and picked me up in a blizzard. The service here is impeccable. They bent over backwards for me in every way. They even helped arrange a tow with the cooperation of the state police, while the interstate was still closed. On top of all that, it s a very interesting historic hotel. The restaurant is also top notch. If I ever get the chance again, I would love to visit in warmer weather, and tour the museum and other sites in the town. Thank you Christine! And send my thanks to the rest of your incredible staff.

Such a great place to stay! We were traveling from Iowa back to the west coast and stumbled on this hotel. It was a winter wonderland and Christmas decor got us in the spirit. We had a dog, so requested the room with its own entrance for easy access. The owners are incredibly friendly, the room was clean and we loved the historic decor. The bed was very comfortable, so we had a great sleep. I took our pup for a play at 5am, and we saw deer, moose and other wildlife. Highly recommend!

This is the 5 star experience we all look for when we travel. The rooms were very clean. I can t believe how clean the rooms were with how much snow and rain and foot traffic that goes through a hotel this time of year. The hotel smells good as well. The building is from 1905?! It has aged incredibly well, I would never have guessed. Very classy. The staff is accommodating and knowledgeable, thoughtful and resourceful. I met the owners. They are fantastic. My room was quiet. The bed was cozy as well. One of the best nights of sleep I had on our family week long road trip. There s a cozy fire place in the common room. I love the way they manage meals as there is little around by way of restaurants. From what I gather, there is a two to three hour window in which they serve a meal. (Correct me if I got that wrong Elk Hotel) We were there during st patties day, right after the blizzard passed through. Christine made a fabulous roast and cabbage to celebrate the day. That is home cooking at its finest. Speaking of the blizzard, I understand that yes, it s helpful to have guests, that s obviously good business. But also I consider the number of people they welcome at all hours of the day and night in the worst weather. Have you read these other comments? People get trapped in blizzard and these fine folk, with the limited staff and resources of a smaller town do what they can to accommodate in a crisis. You just try and forecast revenue, meals, housekeeping and budget on blizzards or bad weather and get back to me. My hat is off to these fine and friendly folk. Great job Historic Elk Hotel. I will recommend to everyone. We will be back to see your beauty in another season as well.

December 30, 2022 saved by this historic hotel in Elk Mountain! Our transmission froze because of the snow storm. As we drive off the road in white out conditions the only hotel nearby opened up just to help us out. Wouldn t want to stranded anywhere else. Best local hospitality ever! Saved us. Grateful and in awe of this little diamond. Must visit again!

The Historic Elk Mountain Hotel is a fantastic hotel experience in a historic location with top notch good old fashioned hospitality. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful and only desires to make you feel right at home. Each distinctly decorated room is full of character and charm and kept impeccably clean. And the little rubber ducks in the bathroom are so cute! The restaurant is also fantastic! There's nothing better than a homecooked style meal after a long day of travel. I can't recommend this place enough. Do yourself a favor and book a room here on your next vacation!

We came upon some bad weather while traveling and happened to be close to this hotel. They were accommodating and let us check in on short notice. The restaurant was charming, highly recommend the bison burger if you eat there.

Amazing property and staff. A lovely break from hotel chains. Rooms are just as the pictures show. We had dinner here twice and breakfast once. Food was good, but again staff was wonderful. The views are beautiful. We saw plenty of deer and one moose which was spectacular. There were a few other guests that we interacted with, but everyone pretty much had their own plans which was perfect for us. When we come back this way again, we will definitely be staying here. There is a small convenience store that is maybe a 5 minute walk. The closest gas station is approximately a 10 minute drive.

I've eaten here five times in the last few years. Every time I adore it and tell myself that I have to come back again. The food is delicious and the setting is beautiful. The new owners are doing a great job carrying on the hotel's high standards. If you're ever in the area, definitely stop in for dinner.

This was a delightful historic hotel in the middle of nowhere. In the evening there was a herd of deer just outside our window. We also saw squirrels and rabbits on the lawn. We ordered dinner and breakfast during our stay. The dining room was spacious, socially distanced, and the food was top quality. Our hostess was attentive and very helpful. Our room was comfortable.

What a great place! Loved the history of the hotel and photographs they have everywhere. If you like historical homes, you will love this hotel. The owners are friendly and accommodating. Didn't get a chance to try the food, as the restaurant was closed when we arrived, and we left early to hunt. I hope to come back and spend some time in the area and will definitely book here. The bed was very cozy!

While we didn t stay at the hotel, we ate quite frequently at the restaurant. The hotel itself was beautifully maintained and the food was incredible. The staff created a warm and friendly environment going above and beyond during a huge snow storm that sidelined us for a number of days.

The Historic Elk Mountain Hotel was extremely accommodating when my partner and I were stranded in a snow storm. Susan was great, and the new manager, Kristine, was extraordinarily kind and thoughtful. The hotel was closed for the season, and they generously opened their doors for us when we had no where else to go. If you are near Elk Mountain, I highly recommend staying at this hotel! It has tons of charm! It was clean, cozy, and the food was divine!!

Came to this place due to inclement weather along interstate 80, but so happy to have been a guest here. Lauren was an incredible manager and represented the property so well. Very nice room (stayed in room 12) and it was awesome being in a serene setting. The coffee and homemade morning pastries were delicious.

Very cool, historic place to stay. The surrounding wilderness is absolutely beautiful! We had a room on the back side with a view of the river. Didn't hear or see any ghosts, but it's supposedly haunted! If you're here during warm weather, leave the window cracked at night as it tends to get a little warm in the room. Breakfast was good. The salmon omelet was fantastic

Was luck enough to find a hotel after the snow storm. Would have much rather stayed in our car. They charged us the king suite for having a service animal who was locked in a kennel the entire time, didn t even touch any furniture. They charged us for hair in the bed and damage to the blanket. There was no damage. We brought our own blankets and pillows. And as for hair, your going to charge us if my hair falls out. Place was a joke and a scam. Will never return again.

Mother's Day 2017 - My daughter brought me here for a special lunch treat. The Prime Rib. Let's just say this is one fancy place. It's truly an historical site. Just a remarkable place to visit. And the staff and atmosphere was divine. We were even visited by the owner/chef and what a joy this lady is. It's worth every penny for the meal. Extremely clean and neat. They take great pride in this place.

A fun experience for dinner! Great variety dishes that you cannot usually get in Wyoming much less in such a remote part of Wyoming. Service was fine although it would have been nice to be asked how I were entrees were... The wait person was very capable and did a good job but did not ask how the entrees were which is or should be typical. the tables were beautiful with flowers and silverware and the presentation of all the dishes was Exquisite as my pictures show. A very interesting drink menu! Prince were well-prepared and the desserts are definitely something to save room for. Salads and french onion soup was average.
