While I was driving the car in the Milwaukee area a week or so ago, my radio unexpectedly went out followed by power steering and then battery light started coming on when braking. Dropped off car at Wrench overnight with description for diagnosis and call. Despite not having made an appointment before the unexpected issues, Wrench got back to me the next day that the alternator was the cause but the battery itself still tested good and that the drive belt should also be replaced due to wear and cracking while they were in there. In addition to the unexpected issues, also took care of the expected maintenance: oil change and replacing a headlight went out that I had been planning to call and schedule with them. This is not my first time taking my car to Wrench, I've used them for many years for routine maintenance (oil change, tire rotation, brake replacement, etc) and they have always been wonderful! In this most recent visit, they were very friendly and knowledgeable throughout. They took excellent care of me and my car this time as well, even though my car was an unexpected drop-off for them on a Monday morning without time to schedule an appointment.

Ben and team are beyond lovely. We brought in my daughters car for a diagnostic on her suspension right after a major winter snow storm. The Ford dealer was booked solid for weeks and Ben was empathetic and squeezed us in. They were able to diagnose quickly, problem-solved several solutions with us, and completed the repairs within 24 hours. Car repairs can be very stressful, but throughout this entire process, we felt informed and supported. We are very glad we found Wrench Auto for our future repairs and we cannot recommend them highly enough. Thank you, all!

They are one of the very few shops around that can accommodate a 3500 quad cab long bed truck for an alignment. I had threw people recommend them. As a shop owner and diesel specialist (Passenger cars) i appreciate their professional nature and timely work. I will use them again.Service: Wheel alignmentService: Wheel alignment

My vehicle went into "limp mode" and Wrench was close to my employer where the issue developed. It happened on a later Monday afternoon They were able to get an appointment on Wednesday. Their Tech was able to assess the situation and they had a solution to me Wednesday afternoon. It was fixed on Thursday when the parts came in and I took it home that night. I had a bad fuel sensor that leaked gasoline into the engine oil. A super fast turn around was greatly appreciated. The staff is friendly and explained the repairs needed well. I am very happy I went to Wrench to get my car repaired. I would highly recommend their great service!Services: General repairs & maintenance, Auto engine diagnostic

I've lived in Madison 5 years, and I went to 3 different local auto shops before I found Wrench Auto. This place is by far the most honest and communicative auto shop I've ever been to. Regardless of any issues or diagnosis, they explain it in detail and give you the all the descriptions and estimations for your records. But most importantly, they are very honest about what really needs to be fixed, and guide you through any repairs based on your budget. You will definitely feel they are not going after your money. I highly recommend this place if you live in Madison area and are looking for a good auto shop.Services: General repairs & maintenance, Vehicle safety inspection, Oil change

Wrench was highly recommended by a coworker and now I see why.I went in for a brake job and they explained in detail what inspections they performed, the work that was done, and even how many miles were left (approximately) on my front set of pads/rotors.As a full service body shop, I will be taking my car here whenever I can. Can't express how impressed I was with their honesty and professionalism.Added bonus, I was able to schedule an appointment completely by email! I visited their website and requested a quote. Within 1 hour I received a reply and set up an appointment, all by email. As a person who hates talking on the phone, this was big for me.If you need ANY kind of work done on your vehicle, I recommend Wrench. You won't regret it.

Quick and responsible response and willing to help me install performance parts! They even reply to my email when they are closed. The rear endlink and sway bar look very lovely. They also let me use a loaner car, so I can drive home and drive back to the shop to pick up my car when the service is completed.

I have been a customer of Wrench Auto Service for over a decade. As a person with little understanding of auto mechanics, I'm grateful to have found a shop where I feel complete confidence that I'm not being taken advantage of and that stands behind their work. They always get my vehicle in quickly, communicate well, and keep my older car running beautifully. Being able to use a loaner vehicle is a convenience that makes a huge difference for me, as well. 100% recommended this local, family-owned business.

Prior, I went to a chain car shop and they were wanting to charge me $1200 to have my back brakes replaced. It didn't sound right so I came across Wrench Auto Service. They were nice, professional, honest, and didn't try to nickel and dime me . They took care of my car quickly and was kind enough to give me a loaner vehicle. i would highly recommend this location.Services: General repairs & maintenance, Brakes

I have been going to Wrench for about six years, family members recommended originally, they had been going to them for a number of years prior. Great service knowledgeable without being condescending, no scare tactics - unlike some auto shops!I have an older, but good condition vehicle that I trust them to make honest assessments about. I've brought my vehicle to the dealership in these past six years for factory recall issues, lots of scare tactics and outrageous prices on things not covered by recall. I've had emergency work done when out of town, unfortunately other shops use cheap parts that fail and Wrench Auto ended up replacing. If they make a mistake, they are honest and correct, if something is under warranty, they remember and do the work free of charge.I'm extremely happy with them and have traveled hundreds of miles for them to do routine maintenance. A good, honest auto shop is a very valuable resource in a community, worth more then haggling over a couple of dollars on something a chain establishment may be able to provide at a cheaper price. Knowing your mechanic is as important as a personal relationship with any other other profession.

I consistently have had excellent service from Ben and Reid. From routine oil changes to brake replacements to transmission repairs, they do quality work that I've always been happy with. Also, who else offers a loaner car for an oil change? Not necessary but very convenient and appreciated that they offer every time!Services: General repairs & maintenance, Engine repair, Oil change

A huge thank you to Ben and Reid for their thorough diagnostics and outstanding customer service when my car recently died in a retail store parking lot. They were able to provide me with all options and able to turn the repair around quickly, as well as allow me to use a loaner vehicle in the meantime. I've had my vehicle serviced at Wrench for several years now, and can always depend on this business. Highly recommended for service needs.Services: Transmission, Carburetor cleaning, Engine repair, Brakes, Oil change

Ben and Reid are always really nice and I can tell they are being honest with me. My boyfriend and I have done repairs there three times now, and all three times I have family and friends who work in the industry check the receipts, etc and they don't overcharge or change out parts that don't need to be changed. For example, they tested my battery and told me that it was a recommended change but I could probably get more time out of it. They are never pushy. I'm sad that I have been there three times this year but we really feel like our cars are well taken care of.

It is always tough finding a trustworthy and honest mechanic. I have 3 vehicles - all with high miles - with various repair needs. Ben was straight with me as far as what needed immediate care and what could be postponed. Not only that, he has always provided excellent customer service and the repairs are done right the first time. He offers comparable services/prices to many other mechanics, but he goes a step further to offer an exceptional experience. I have recommended anyone in need of service for their vehicles to Wrench.

I really appreciated receiving a detailed estimate by email. Also received a phone call when the technician found conditions different than originally estimated. Am very pleased with the work, my older model high-mileage van drives a lot nicer now. Great service, great people to work with. Prices seem reasonable.Services: Steering & suspension repair, BrakesServices: Steering & suspension repair, Brakes

This was my first time going to Wrench and they did an excellent job! I brought the car in for a variety of issues and they managed to diagnose all of them, and also gave me a rating of which ones were most important to fix (in case money was an issue). They were polite and accommodating - I'll be stopping by again!!

I went in for an estimate for replacing the timing belt on a 2007 HONDA PILOT. I discussed this with Ben. He was very professional and received an estimate. The repair was set up and he told me there would be a car for me to use at no charge, all warmed up when I dropped off my car. The car repair was completed that afternoon, like Ben said it would be and the estimated cost was exactly what Ben s estimate was. I couldn t be more happy with the repair and the very professionalism displayed. I am now recommending this business to my friends and relatives. I must also include I normally wouldn t write a review or survey, as I hate them but Ben s display as a professional really warranted it. HATS OFF TO WRENCH AUTO..Service: Engine repair

I always trust Ben and the folks at Wrench Auto to do a great job with my auto service and to be totally honest and transparent. They have been knowledgeable about everything I've come in needing. And, unlike some places, they take the time to explain what things mean, why they're important (or not important) and why they cost what they cost. They help me understand what I need to know, and take care of the rest.

I just had them install four new tires from Tire Rack on my Toyota Sienna. The work was done well. They were very professional and explained what they did in detail complete with computer printout of the alignment. Coordination with Tire Rack was excellent. Prices were competitive. I will use them again.

Brought my car in to check/replace a part under warranty and they called saying that part was fine, it was actually another sensor and I owed $150 in diagnostic costs. I told Ben I was upset no one called and told me they confirmed the part under warranty was good and it would require diagnostic (aka unexpected, unauthorized costs) to determine what was wrong. Ben s response to me was you got me there, I can zero out your account but you will no longer be allowed to be a customer anymore. I was never trying to get out of paying, I was just frustrated they didn t call and get approval for the work or that they didn t tell me that additional costs were a possibility when bringing the car in.I would definitely NOT recommend this place. They expect a customer to be okay with unauthorized work and they don t explain potential costs.

This was my first time taking my car to yhe guys at Wrench Auto Service. From the first phone call to the time I picked up the car I was treated with straight forward and honest answers to all of my questions. The car fixed and is now back on the road running as it should. I am new to the Middleton area and am happy that I have found a repair shop that does great work. They have a new regular customer!!!

This is my second time taking my car to Wrench Auto Service. The first time, they replaced the AC compressor in my Saturn Vue. I was very happy with their work and fair pricing. This time I took the vehicle in to repair the trailer hitch wiring on the Vue, and they were very honest and told me that the fix was simply to replace or remove a corroded connector under the car. I would recommend these guys to anyone looking for an honest and fair repair shop.

Best auto repair shop I have been to yet, all the other ones feel like they try and swindle you into doing more work than you actually need. I called them up, told them what I needed, and the quoted me right there on the phone. They even gave me a loaner car which was extremely convenient. Will most likely go here again and again. Thanks

Ben and his team came through when my brakes needed attention and also found another failure that could have led to damage and higher repair bills later. We will definitely be back and will gladly recommend Wrench Auto Services to anyone needing auto repairs.

Decided to give this place a try since I was able to get a small discount on labor. They charged $120 for an oil change. Oofta. Needless to say I didn't save any money by trying this shop out.Service: Oil changeService: Oil change

Renewed confidence in my 16 y/o Prius! With the limited availability of both new and used cars, I wanted to know what I could expect in the near future from my car, a 2005 Prius. I now can drive comfortably knowing that nothing was required now and a few repairs will need to be done in the spring. This way I can plan ahead for a more expensive repair. They only charge me $95 which I think is a great bargain!Service: General repairs & maintenance

Please call around and do some homework. Very expensive. Wrench has the highest shop rates we found including local dealerships. Our usual repair shop was under construction so we took the vehicle to Wrench as they are very close to us and the vehicle needed towing. I thought their estimate was quite high when I received it so I started calling around. It was over $200 higher than the next closest estimate. Was $260+ higher than the actual final cost of repairs at another shop. Wrench's estimate charged more than OEM prices for aftermarket parts. For example, a part we needed was $80 for an aftermarket version that was available from multiple online vendors. They charged $135 on the estimate. Keep in mind I found the part because the part number was on the estimate. They were using the aftermarket part number in the estimate. The actual OEM part was available from the manufacturer for $125 delivered. I have no issues with aftermarket parts, but that's a ridiculous up charge. And no it was not any sort of upgraded aftermarket part. Additionally, they were the only shop to have a $50 "misc parts and shop supplies" fee. Finally, when we informed Wrench that we had decided to take the vehicle elsewhere the person I was speaking with became rude. This was after I began the conversation by notifying him that we were coming by to pay the diagnostic fee first before picking up the vehicle. He was also quite rude to my wife when she arrived to do just that and badgered her to get the vehicle off his lot. They added $25 to the diagnostic fee at that time as well for "cleaning supplies". I can't stress enough calling around and doing some legwork. The final bill elsewhere was roughly 30% less. Without a doubt the worst experience I have ever had with a car repair shop.

I brought my vehicle into wrench because of a grinding noise coming from my brakes. I had guessed my pads were shot and I would need new ones. After an inspection Ben explained that my brakes were fine and not in need of replacement. He suggested that if I hadn't driven the car a while that rust may have built up on the rotors causing the noise I was describing. They could have easily charged me for new brakes and I would have never known. It is that type of honesty that will keep me going back to Wrench.
