Best independent garage in town! Just purchased a Mini Cooper (fun, little sporty ride) with unknown history. Took it to Chet's and they changed the oil, rotated tires and checked it over. I have had other vehicles serviced there and they have been honest, fair price, good work, quick service always!

I have going to Chets over 30 years and have always had a wonderful experience. If there were a problem with the visit I was always contacted with that info. I particularly like that thet provide pickup and return ride to Chet s. It saves a lot of time and a wonderful service. Keep up the good work. I have always referred friends to Chet s. I own a small business and they provide the service that I appreciate. Thanks for the wonderful service.

Chet's took care of my tire replacement speedily and professionally and really did an overall excellent job of changing my tires. I would recommend their services to anyone looking for top-notch service and I was really satisfied with the degree of detail they exhibited in servicing my car.

I took my 2008 Mazda 3 in for the Fall Service package. They did a great job at a reasonable price. I was treated in a friendly manner very respectfully. And their courtesy car service is a major plus!

Another great experience with Chet s today. Very annoying dash light problem and sensor issue solved in an hour for the cost of $46. Convenient location that I can walk to and friendly, patient staff.

They attempted to deal with this problem twice within five days, but the light would again pop on a day or two after each repair. On my third visit I was told that their diagnostic tool couldn't find anything wrong with the van, so the van would be safe for me to drive. I had never had such a concern before in the 30 plus years they had worked on my van.After talking with a friend about my concerns she referred me to Chet's Care Care. The mechanics removed framing from my van so that would be able to view the entire engine area. They found that mice had chewed wires in three different systems in my van! Not only did they painstakingly make the repairs, but Erik and his wife - the owners - took time to help me figure out when and why I started to have such a problem and how to prevent future issues! They were truly concerned for me and the well-being of my vehicle! Will be taking in my husband's car next week for a look over. This was about 5 years ago, for what it's worth. Bought a full set of new, high quality tires (Continental) from Chet's, paying a premium price. I know, I know, should've gone to a tire retailer. Thought it would be worth it for the convenience of overlapping the visit with my annual synthetic oil change.Three weeks later, I found one tire had a slow leak. When I returned to Chet's, they charged me for a "puncture repair" ($25, I think), plus two hours sitting in their waiting area. Slow leak remained. Two months later, took my car to the dealership for a recall repair. Asked them to fix the slow leak in that same tire. They found it was a faultily installed valve, not a puncture. I asked if there's any puncture repair. They didn't see one.Services: Tires, General repairs & maintenance, Oil change

Everybody is very professional courteous and kind they have experienced technicians that diagnose the problem for my car that I wasn't even there for simply by driving the car from the parking lot into the shop.

Excellent service on my Chevy Sonic. I thought I had a wheel bearing issue. Chet's found it to be a aging strut issue and gave me the option to defer maintenance due to the high mileage of my vehicle and cost of the repair not worth doing. They shot me straight and saved me over a grand on my high mile-end of life-commuter car.

Chet's care for people!Tatjana from Canada,I came to Chet's by recommendation of people at the gas station when my brake broke on hwy. I was heading from Madison to Milwaukee. Mr.Eric, the sun of the owner of this car care shop came to me with big smile and firm shake asking me how can he help. I told him what happened and that I lackilly managed to avoid accident when brake on my camper van broke during the time I was trying to stop at one intersection.He smiled at me again and said that he will look at it and he offer me the coffee and to relax in their office in mean time. Very soon he and one of his crew member checked my vehicle, found the problem and helped me to be able to drive it to the place where it can be fixed. They were very busy that day and they had lack of some crew members, but they left everything and helped me first. It was very nice to meet and talk to Me. Check too.Thank you guys. It is so nice to still find the people that care for people and their car.

Normally a good shop, but they are apparently struggling to keep mechanics on staff right now. I brought my truck in asking them to repair a busted leaf spring and change the oil; they had it for two months and never even looked at the leaf spring. Apparently they managed to change the oil. Never called to give me a heads up on the wait time, and still charged me almost $60 for the oil change. You're probably better off looking elsewhere for service unless it's basic maintenance.

I was able to drop off my vehicle right away for a 100k maintenance. The team at Chet s did a thorough inspection of my car, found an issue with a tire rod on my car. They called to advise of the issue and were able to replace the tire rod and get the maintenance work done before the end of their business day. We stopped at Chet s on Monday, August 14, shortly after they opened, with the battery gauge on our truck reading below the L mark. It sounded as if the alternator was going, so driving home to Minnesota wasn t an option. Matt was able to work us into the schedule and figured they could look at it later in the morning.We left the truck, got a ride from their driver back to our hotel for breakfast and settled in for a potentially day long wait. Matt called at 9 a.m., they had diagnosed the problem as a likely gauge malfunction and not anything that would prevent us from driving home. Their driver picked us up and we were on the road home by 10 a.m. Everyone at Chet s treated us well and went above and beyond to help a couple of stranded out-of-towners. They were honest and the treatment we received from them had us recommending that our son, who lives in Madison, try Chet s for his vehicle care.Thanks again to everyone at Chet s!

If I could give less than one star, I would. TLDR: Just Go To Dutch s. Exorbitant prices, awful customer service (I d guess mostly to women), and either blatant dishonesty and deceitful ness or simply lack of knowledge, not sure which.I have given Chet s many chances over the three years I ve lived here, and then some because they are nearby, have a lot of bays, and can usually get you in fairly quickly. I ve gotten basic maintenance as well as larger, intensive repairs. I will not be giving them any more of my time or money for various reasons, but the most pressing is the blatant overcharging for basic services, let alone larger jobs. They tried to charge me $100 for an oil change, most recently.Additionally, I echo other women that have reviewed - the male staff have been downright rude to me on so many occasions when I simply want them to explain what they are charging me for. I know my car very well, and I know what repairs have been done to it. I often know exactly the part of the vehicle that needs work done when I bring it in. They then proceed to ignore everything I say and charge me for a diagnostic anyway.There s also a terrible lack of communication between front desk employees and mechanics. I had a mechanic argue with me for 10 min when I brought my car in to have the speedometer fixed - he insisted that when the speedometer s out, you ALWAYS have to change the entire instrument cluster, which would be very expensive (at Chet s at least). I told him that he might wanna check, because I have had just the speedometer fixed in the past. He told me he worked at a car dealership for 27 years, and when one thing is out, the entire cluster must be replaced. I told them when I first brought the car in that it the issue was very likely the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS). Lo and behold, after multiple phone calls from the mechanic and the front desk guy condescendingly googling possible causes while I stand there and tell them it s the speed sensor, they determine it s the speed sensor, and, amazingly, JUST my speedometer is fixed. Of course, they charged me a diagnostic fee anyway.The owner s politics and repugnant behavior are simply the cherry on top of an awful business. It was nice of Chet himself to give me a ride to campus, but listening to Fox News Radio while he questions me about whether my college students involved in social justice movements don t let anyone else talk or listen to any other viewpoints in class is not my idea of a good time. Not happy. Took my truck in for an oil change and to have them see why the check engine light was on. It took 24 hours to get my truck back for the appointment I scheduled a week in advance. I didn t get any discount, didn t top off any other fluids, didn t check anything else out with the engine. The only thing they did for me was give me a ride to and from my apartment and a small apology.Service: Oil change

Took my car in after an accident. Was also going through getting in touch with my estranged Dad again who fixes cars a little. They said my car was totalled, I decided to call him and he at least said we would take care of impounding it. He ended up fixed it!!!! Guess people really do scam women lol

Good people still exist. I have nothing but good things to say about Eric and his team! I know the bare minimum when it comes to cars, maybe even less sometimes. I was in a rut and needed my car towed to the nearest mechanic. Eric stayed an hour after he closed to ensure my car arrived and opened the hood immediately. He was able to diagnose and get my car back on the road that night! We made a plan for me to drop it off after work the next day so his team could have a full look at what was going on. He treated me like family and did not make me feel the slightest embarrassment for my lack of car knowledge. In fact, he took the time to educate me on the process of fixing my vehicle and how to prevent problems in the future! Look, I know car repair is a tough business. Customers are already unhappy because the car they rely on is broken and the car repairs are expensive, it s just a fact of vehicle ownership. That said there are competent repair shops that diagnose and repair what is broken and charge an arm and a leg - but you drive away with a fixed car. Then there is Chet s. I was a loyal customer there for years and I don t know why. I had dozens of repairs there that either didn t solve the problem or failed and had me returning for the same problem a month later. It is not just the cost of having repeated repairs done but the time and hassle of being without your car. I don t give bad reviews just because I have one axe to grind. I tell you, from one car owner to another, look somewhere else and you ll never know the pain you avoided.

This place was absolutely wonderful. I was needing to get home from The Dells and had a flat tire. After contacting 4 different places, including a Chevy dealership, no tires in my size were to be found. Chet's was recommended and they were able to get my tires and get me back on the road in no time. While I hope that I never have a need to have my vehicle serviced while on vacation again, I would not hesitate to take my vehicle back to Chet's.

We have been using Chet's for 8 years both for our personal and business vehicles. The entire staff is fantastic. I only can remember on hick-up after a visit, and they got right on it. These types of family owned businesses are unfortunately a dying breed. Chet's is the best car care place I've ever been to in my life of cars. Unbelievable customer service, friendly and knowledge front desk team. Every other employee I met there was incredibly genuine and accommodating. I know I can trust them because they have never overcharged me or up-charged me. I've had other garages try to sell me services I didn't need and Chet's has never been anything but honest with me even when I didn't need something!SAVES me $$$.The customer service team will always explain and answers any questions. I feel safe with them and will never go anywhere else, even my dealer garage. Highly recommend!

I highly recommend Chets Car Care! I recently took my car to another Madison Area car repair shop and after they told me I would need $1300 worth of work done I wanted to get a second opinion. I went to Chets and it turned out all I needed was a new wheel bearing. They saved me so much money and did not take advantage of me! They also gave me a ride to and from work while my car was being worked on. These are great trustworthy people to have working on your car.Services: Tires, Steering & suspension repair

I would give 4.5 stars if I could. Eric and his staff were great. I went in to get an oil change but there was an issue. It wasn't their fault or mine. Beyond pleased with my service here. The people were super nice and accommodating. After my car died by their auto shop Eric came to look at it right away and I was provided a free shuttle to work. They let my car sit in their parking lot for over a week free while I Decided what to do with it. I thought they were very fair and very timely and very professional, while being very hospitable and kind.

Been following Chet's advice and car care since the late 70's. Never had a bad experience, overcharge or time delay in all that time. The workmanship, courtesy service and customer care have been exemplary. I would have and have had no problem recommending Chet's Car Care to anyone.
