No surprise that when I checked the YELP reviews for Don's that it is as bad as it is. I wish I would have checked before I called. As others have said, if I could rate them a 0 I would. They are in a College town and my son was parked at a friend's apartment complex, in one of his friend's spots, and his car was towed. The fact that it was towed could probably be argued that he could have gotten a warning but that is not the issue. He also got charged an additional $25 for storage, on top of the $200+ towing fee. He picked the vehicle up and paid the fees within hours, there was no "storage". I called, on his behalf, to see if he could get the $25 back. I was told that as soon as it passes their gate, the fee starts. I said that $25 is a lot to a college kid and I thought it was a bad business practice! The woman on the phone went crazy and yelled at me and was a complete "female dog"! I can't imagine anyone, that gets their car impounded being happy but I wasn't even arguing that fact, it was the additional storage fee when there was no storage. She was out of line an unprofessional. The other reviews were mainly on repair work or scheduled towing service so it seems they don't do anything right and the people answering there phones need some lessons in customer service! DO NOT do business with them for any reason. If forced, like we were, continue to complain until they are out of business! It seems my friends at Don's like to reply to Google reviews but never take any blame or apologize for the problems that they have. It was established in my, initial review, that my son parked in a spot of a friend's at his apartment that was a towable expense. That was not my complaint so now it seems as though reading and comprehension are also an issue at Don's. My problem is the additional $25 for storage as there was no "storage" involved. The female answering the phone was rude and has ZERO customer service skills! Every bad review, which most are, site your customer service skills as the problem. But, keep blaming the people with reviews for your problems, that will certainly help.

Below this paragraph is the review I left earlier and believe it or not, within hours of posting it, we received a call from Don's Towing. Was it to update us on our situation? No. Did she call to apologize for the miscommunication and terrible customer service that resulted in our review? No. She called us to whine about the review!! No, I'm not kidding.. I did realize I made a mistake earlier by blaming the miscommunication on the driver when it was actually someone from the office. After she called to whine about our review, she had the utter audacity to tell us to call her back once WE calmed down and could discuss it civilly. Really? I was calm until you expected us to pay twice what we were quoted. There are only a few things Don's Towing could do to redeem themselves in our eyes, but calling only to whine about a bad review is definitely not on that list. If you want a good review, earn it! Here's my honest scoring:Customer Service: -0Honest Quotes: -0Polite and Helpful Staff: -0Original Post: After reading multiple negative reviews about this company, unfortunately only after attempting to do business with them, my first question is whatever happened to the saying, "the customer is always right?" Time & again, you have replied to legitimate complaints by posting private information that you are privy to, such as that a customer was in jail or what was found in their car, things you have no right to release. I've never heard of any other company doing something so shameful or remotely similar as the vindictive staff at Don's Towing. When I receive information from a company employee that is incorrect, the fault lies 100% with them. It was not my mistake and I've never been handed a booklet or referred to your website listing your policies, procedures and estimates or given any type of warning that I shouldn't rely on the words spoken by your employees and instead should expect to be lied to, ripped off and blamed for your companies miscommunication and misrepresentations with your company never accepting any of the well-deserved blame. Well, if you won't accept responsibility for your actions, inactions, mistruths and poor customer service, then why shouldn't our community be warned about your shady practices? We honestly believed we were given accurate information by your employee until you started tacking on extra (hidden) charges. Now, like many customers before us, you are essentially holding our only vehicle hostage. We could afford to pay the amount quoted to us by your employee, but now you are holding our vehicle hostage since we can't afford the surprisingly high new charges that are only increasing by the day. As soon as we questioned the significant difference between what we were quoted and charged, the office staff immediately became rude, condescending and refused to even acknowledge or look into our claims.Bottom line is do not trust quotes and estimates provided by any member of their staff unless it's in writing or you have a few extra hundred dollars lying around to pay their ransom. Do not expect to be treated with respect by the office staff and definitely do not expect that they will honor the prices quoted to you by anyone over the phone. However, if you want them to call you back ASAP, just leave a less than stellar review and they will definitely call you immediately after reading it. Maybe they were once famous locally for honesty and providing some semblance of decent customer service, but over the last several years, they have become more famous for providing misleading estimates, employing rude staff who have no qualms about publically posting/exposing private customer information they were privy to only in the course of business in retaliation for bad reviews and ripping off the life-long residents as well as the visiting college students who make up our community. They really have no one to blame but themselves.

My daughter had a dead battery and after failing to get it jumped, called Don's as they had service van's available per their website. She called them and they told her they would need to tow her car to the shop ($121.52), do a diagnostic for $109.95 (they checked for a blown fuse) and then they replaced the battery along with a $54.98 charge to install it.I called and spoke with Rachel the manager and they were not willing to negotiate to a more reasonable bill.Be careful if you use Don's as they will pad their bill and take advantage of people who are naive about car repairs.

The gals in front office are terrible at communicating and extremely rude. Do not recommend this company! They take advantage of the college age kids in that town. They did bait and switch on us with pricing. My son lives and works downtown LaCrosse so walks to work and rarely has the need to use his vehicle. He was not aware of the City ordinance indicating you need to move it every 48hrs. The LaCrosse PD did have it towed but was super helpful and understanding when communicating with them. The La Crosse police department even tried to call on our behalf to help rectify the situation with Dons towing and he called back saying they were unreasonable.

I broke down on the side of the road. Don's was there first. My vehicle was treated with respect during tow etc, I knew my car was in good hands while stressed out. They found out it was the transmission. They gave me options and didn't make me feel pressured to spend more. The car runs perfect, I got it back cleaner than when they towed it somehow. We were towed from un unmarked spot. All the doors were marked, as to not park in from of the door. We parked in two spots that were not marked, or close to the door. We had come into town and we were staying at an AirBnB. We were towed. After we walked 2 miles to get our vehicles, the tower driver was laughing at us. He even laughed that we were going to miss our tee times. prick.

I really appreciate them all because I met 4 people on that team and they were so understanding for me. I had to call for help when I broke my valve stem and was very thankful when I think his name is Jon arrived. I offered him my tools from the back of my car and he asked if it was a joke it was hilarious. The front desk girl and the boss are really good at their jobs and the boss was very understanding when I had a melt down :) thank you guys! I would say I'd use you guys again, but I hope I won't have to haha. I forgot to add that even after all of it, they even sent a driver 5 miles to my class to pick me up and drive me to Don's repair so I wasnt walking 5 miles in the dark in a town i dont live in :) that was really kind. Ended up being friends with the receptionist haha

I got into an accident and they were called. When the driver came, he said AAA did not cover it (it my first accident, I didn't know I should've called AAA.) A few days later I go to give them my car for scrap. And the lady gives me an oil change card (thank you for the card I can't use because I don't have a car.) The people are nice, but they for sure cheated me, because they only gave me $50 for scrap. Anyway, the next day I return to take my stuff out, and my stereo is gone. I ask them about it and they said they would look at security footage. Several times, about 3 or 4, they said I should come back to see if they found anything, they said nothing new (so I drove there for no reason a few times).Service: Car towing

Yesterday I was stranded on the Interstate and AAA sent my tow request to this company and it was accepted at 3:26pm. Tow was to be expected by 4:15 pm. Don's canceled the tow at 4:16 with no call or explanation....Things happen, I get it. I just called AAA back again. They ordered another tow just to have it canceled again. If you don't want to service AAA calls, DO NOT accept them.Service: Car towing

Don s helped us out when we were in a real bind. Nothing but empathy, friendliness and full support from the team at Don s all at fair great price that beat all the others we had called. Thanks Don s!!

Car got towed out of the parking lot of my apartment at 2:30 am. Don s daughter is very stuck up and condescending. The customer service is terrible. Train your people to be nice. Learn common decency and empathy, and you will earn more business. This is not how Don s legacy should be carried on. Learn better phone skills, take it from someone who works customer service. Don t go here!

Still waiting to hear back from them to see if my car was towed there. It says it's closed right now but when I called just now someone answered so therefore they are not closed.

Terrible experience. If I could give zero stars I would. The premise of their business is to take advantage of the little to no availible parking around the UW La crosse campus and rack up ridiculous fees on college kids who are dealing with enough already. An absolute sorry excuse for a business.Service: Car towingService: Car towing

Lesson Learned- Friday car would not start so was forced have towed. Driver of truck very nice and Brandon at shop was helpful. I was told it would not be fixed until today but got call later Friday saying wires chewed one issue at least. I Called 3 times before got to Service area and then call back saying car had been fixed Friday yet never bothered to call me and let me know. I could have worked today but cant without my car since working remotely currently. Charging me $ 399.06 for tow is ridiculous when only 19 Miles and some supposedly some free.Unless you have money to burn I would NEVER recommend using them. I get the shortages but Business and Customer Service practices are important to people that have to drive to make a living. Craigs Towing is the best option for anyone ! They told me when called today they would have charged me 181 + tax for same trip.

I wish I could give this place a Zero Star but that s not an option this place is a such a rip off and easily targets younger people to give in their money. I honestly don t understand why this place still exists, is beyond me. Can we please get a place in lacrosse that has a good atmosphere where the workers aren t rude or condescending to customers that need help?

Came to La Crosse to pick up my vehicle that my son had used to move himself into his house near campus. The vehicle was parked behind his house where the maintenance supervisor of the property management company indicated they could park. Late Saturday evening, my son looked out and the car was gone. A sign was posted three properties over with Don's Towing listed, so he called to find out that he had been towed, and that he could pick up the vehicle on Sunday between 9am and 1pm. We've straightened out things with the property management company, and will be reimbursed for the towing charge from them, but what hasn't been rectified is the damage done to my vehicle by Don's Towing. Before I paid I insisted that I inspect the vehicle, as my BMW 328xi has low ground clearance, and the manufacturer's recommendation is that this all wheel drive vehicle be flatbed towed, or towed from the front with a dolly on the rear wheels. My vehicle was towed from the rear with the front dolly'd. The lower edge of the bumper is scuffed, which is the damage I was initially concerned with. They took photos and told me to call Steve, their towing Manager, during the week. I called on Tuesday September 25th and he said that he needed to see the car, not the pictures the owner indicated their employee take. I live in the Appleton area and do not plan to be back in La Crosse for Months. Since driving the vehicle back to Appleton, I have a noise from the suspension that wasn't there before. Towing a Multi-Link rear suspension vehicle from the rear is NOT recommended, and I now have another problem to diagnose and repair. And I an sure the bumper cover wasn't damaged as I personally had replaced the bumper in July, and again inspected it in August when I replaced the right front air duct that cools the brakes, as I had to r&r the bumper to install. My question is why din't they tow the second vehicle that was parked back there? and in the picture, you will see the property management company parked under Don's towing sign, as well as a city of La Crosse Police car, and I'll bet they have never been towed! I will be looking into my options to recuperate for damages, as well as investigate with the city if there is proper permitting for the sign advertising Don's towing posted three properties away.

Awful experience! My husband got in an argument with the guy that picked up his car. I calmly called the guy back and explained my husband has anxiety and apologized. The guy then made a hand sized dent in my husband's car prior to taking pictures of it. Now we have no proof but will be talking to an attorney. Please don't trust these people with your vehicle.

We've been taking our cars to Don's for about 30 years. Always seemed fair in pricing and clear communication. Other places have sometimes tacked on extra items, but no surprises at Don's. Always ethical and fair. Would definitely recommend to anyone and we will continue to take our own cars to Don's.Services: Auto battery replacement, Auto water leak repair, General repairs & maintenance, Auto brake repair, Engine repair, Vehicle Inspection, Car towing, Vehicle safety inspection, Tire change, Oil changeServices: Auto battery replacement, Auto water leak repair, General repairs & maintenance, Auto brake repair, Engine repair, Vehicle Inspection, Car towing, Vehicle safety inspection, Tire change, Oil change

Dealt with them because my sister in law's car was there. Not a good experience. Was lied to several times. $2000.00 repair bill and the car went four miles before needed to be towed back for the overheating issue it went in for in the first place. The $200.00 discount they gave is only what the signage in the office states as a 10% discount for AAA which she has. The invoice stated it was for customer complaint. If that's the case she still has the AAA discount coming.

My husband sold a car back in March on Marketplace. Apparently, the guy who bought it was not a good person. He never registered the car, left it in our name, and dumped the car on the side of the road. We received a bill from Don s Towing for $1,635 and change. When I called and spoke to Amanda she was so patient and kind. We had just paid $2,000 to fix our own actual car and we did not have the money to pay this. She walked me through it, helped me with the problem at hand, and told us to call her anytime if we make a sale in the future. She also educated me on all the steps to take to seek a car so we don t get out in this predicament again.Thank you Amanda and Don s Towing for understanding and helping us through a very dark situation. You have gained a customer for life and I will share this story 1000 times over. Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of a very grateful heart!Service: Car towing

Very poor service for this place. Way overpriced and rude. I asked to have my car taken to Abra just 3 minutes from Don s. I was then told they would take it there in a little bit. I waited at Abra for over an hour. When I called to see what was going on I was rudely told the cops come before you . Like if you had to write a report why was it not done when the car was picked up. Or why was it not done in the morning at business hours. Or better yet why would you tell me that it will be there in alittle bit of you had an hour of paperwork to fill out. Very unimpressed with this business and will not be going though this place ever again. Highly not recommend for any sort of tow service.Service: Car towing

Horrible service! Their receptionist would answer the call and transfer to hold right away. 4x she did this. They re rude and disrespectful when it comes to your calls. I asked for them to service my flat tire at 11pm at night. I had to call 3x to just get them to come out here, which they never did. I called in the am because they said they d call me back last night and to also see if they could come in the am.The receptionist answers my call and is rude and tells me that they had been out here at my friends house 3x and knocked on our door etc. Which they did not because I have no calls on my phone from them or videos on my cameras of them knocking on my door or being there in general. This company needs to let go of their horrible employees.

Too bad you have to give at least one star. I would not recommend this company. My son is a college student and his vehicle stopped. He let the property owner know his vehicle was inoperable in their lot and would be towed in the AM. A resident of the property called Don s and had the car towed. Which was fine, I paid for the tow and since it was already there, I asked Don's to diagnose the car their fee was $79.99. Over four days I waited and had to call numerous times to find out what was happening with the car. After two days of calling and no communication from them, I was told the key fob was the issue when all they had to do is hold the key fob by the push to start and push the button. Then they called to say the car might have a faulty gas gauge and been out of gas. They asked for more time & money for the mechanic to drive the car and properly diagnose. Don s overcharges for poor service. Beware!Services: Car towing, Auto maintenance

A month ago I was in an accident and unfortunately they were called for the tow. That same day I went to get my vehicle out, and somehow my bill went from $280 to $440. I was charged for the whole day when my vehicle was there for only a couple of hours. The main lady there is very very rude! She argued with me over the phone and in the office, calling me names and hanging up on me. One of the most unprofessional businesses in La Crosse.Service: Car towing

I was in an accident the other day and had to have an emergency car extraction as I was stuck on the side of the highway with a totalled vehicle. Someone from Don's towing came out to pick me up. This is the first accident I have been in and I was shaken up from the accident so I didn't know that I was supposed to find somewhere to take my car once the driver picked me up so I was very shocked when he told me there was no place to leave my car without the chance of it being impounded. we circled around what to do and I felt like I had no options. He basically told me that there was no were he could leave it but he needs to get it off his truck, which makes sense as it was likely a busy morning for them. I was just shocked at how much he wasn't willing to work with me or help, we finally decided on leaving it outside of recycling center, dropping me off he told me that he can't take the car inside because i didn't have my cars tittle and that it could still be impounded on the side of the road cuz it's leaking fluids. I don't think he was trying to be rude but it was not a positive experience.Service: Car towing
