Mary Lou runs an absolutely outstanding BnB that is full of more quaint charm than you could ever imagine. The rooms are comfortable and full of personality, and every detail, from robes to snacks to entertainment has been thought of. I didn't get to experience the legendary Cobblestone breakfast because of the scheduling changes to the Birkie this year, but breakfast was still great, and Mary Lou and the other guests were wonderful to sit and chat with. This place is a really wonderful welcome to the North Woods and was a big part of enjoying my first Birkie experience.

Thank you Mary Lou for graciously hosting our large family who occupied the entire Bed and Breakfast. We were there for a wedding on Stout's Island. Our little group - grandparents - daughter and son-in-law, and four-year-old granddaughter stayed in the downstairs lodge. Mary Lou has appointed it to be a cabin-lover's dream with so many details we would need to return to appreciate them all. Second, the space was spotless - no small feat. My husband and I stayed in the Gone Fishing Room. So darned perfect and charming Bed was comfortable, sheets were embroidered with canoes at the hem. Mary Lou is justifiable famous for her breakfasts. And don't get me started on her garden - gorgeous! She is an artist! Thank you!Rooms: Everyone is unique and cleverly appointed.Nearby activities: Lakes - fishing - boating - summer activities

This was absolutely the most comfortable and enjoyable place we have stayed in a long time! We stayed in the downstairs (basement), which is called the lower lodge. Quirky and cute!! It was PERFECT for us! It is not as ritzy as the fancy upstairs rooms, but is so cozy - we LOVED it. It is more like a rustic and charming camp cabin (burlap covering the ceiling pipes, a pretty screen around the furnace, etc), but we found it a great fit for us. She has it very well appointed with things such as window black-out coverings, fans, bedside lights, and much more. We were the only ones down there, but it would also be perfect for a pair of couples as there are two bedrooms. In addition to the bedrooms there is a large livingroom / dining area, a large bathroom, and a tiny kitchen corner. Also nice was the private exterior entrance since we had a dog. Obviously, there is also an entrance into the main upstairs with easy access for those amazing (!!!) breakfasts and the rest of the common areas. The yard and porch of the Cobblestone Inn is also beautifully arranged for visiting and just plain enjoying life, including a fire pit and hammock.

I decided to take my wife back to her childhood days that included several locations near Rice Lake WI for our anniversary. I personally love staying at B&Bs so we found a nice place named, The Cobblestone B&B. Such a charming place, perfect atmosphere along with a wonderful host, Mary Lou. Loved the bedroom settings, the furnishings, freshly made breakfasts and hospitality. The bathtub for two was perfect along with a king size bed. We loved it so much we decided to stay an extra night, staying in another room that offered a perfectly sized shower being that I m a tall man. We highly recommended staying at the Cobblestone. We finished out our time by seeing a doe Laying down across the street in a nearby yard.Thank you, Mary Lou, see you again this fall!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Mary Lou is a fabulous host. She has collected an amazing amount of unique items displayed throughout this beautiful house and outside. She served some of the best breakfasts we ve ever had at a B&B. We even had a late night snack of strawberry rhubarb pie while we played games. The gift shop is very impressive as well.

We have stayed here 3 times and have enjoyed every visit! Mary Lou, the owner, is a great host. She is so accommodating and hospitable. The house is very warm and inviting. Every room is decorated with interesting trinkets and furniture. The beds are very comfortable. The front porch has a small table, chairs and a swing. The backyard includes a table with chairs and an umbrella as well as some Adirondack chairs that provide the perfect place to have coffee in the morning or relax after a long day at the lake. The highlight of your stay will be the amazing breakfast in the morning. Mary Lou cooks a full breakfast every morning that is not to be missed. You sit at her beautiful dining room table along with other guests. Her specialties are French toast, blueberry pancakes and Eggs Benedict. Mary Lou's cooked to order omelettes do not disappoint either. She serves every breakfast with fresh fruit (like baked pears, watermelon or cherries), frappes, juice and coffee. There are also two resident cats who are very sweet and come around to meet and greet the guests. We highly recommend the Cobblestone B&B!

Cobblestone will NOT disappoint! My husband and I booked this beautiful bed and breakfast the day before we were due to arrive. It was no problem for Mary Lou, the kindhearted owner, as everything was ready and in order for our arrival. The home is very comfortable and offers such a warm and welcoming ambiance. It truly makes you feel at home; like you're just visiting that distance aunt who lives in the country. The food!.. The food was delicious. We were served hot coffee, cucumber infused water, a warm poppy seed muffin, a chalice of fruit, thee most tasty banana orange frappe, hash browns and.....eggs benedict that is out of this world! It was all fulfilling and made you glad you were there.I also couldn't help the smell coming from the candles Mary Lous was burning. I found myself buying some of my own from her gift shop and now my house is filled with the same smells. :)

Great find in little Birchwood, WI. A family group of us booked out several of the rooms for a wedding this past weekend, along with 2 other couples (not part of our group) - so it was a full house! Our group loved it. The owner was very nice and you could tell she had put a lot of time into turning the home into her business. The style of the place as very eclectic, to say the least. She had antiques and trinkets everywhere - you could probably sit and stare for hours in each room. :) Every lamp, towel, art piece, window shade, side table, was unique and well placed. She has certainly done her fair share of collecting throughout the years. So if you generally enjoy the bed & breakfast experience, appreciate antiques, sleep well on feather tops and feather pillows, and having a fantastic home cooked breakfast (of course) - this is a spot you will really enjoy. Now - this is where I need to mention something about the other guests that were also staying there. I'm fairly certain they were all around terrible people. I'm writing this portion of the review to combat their threats directed at the owner Mary the next morning. Apparently WE were too loud coming home Saturday night after the wedding. Normally, I'd give some validity to their statement, but this time, I seriously have to question this as we were back by midnight and all of us immediately fell asleep when our heads hit those fabulous feather pillows...it had been a very long day traveling, we were all exhausted! The only noise ANY OF US heard was THEM bagging on the walls every hour. Who knows, they might have been truly crazy people since they waited until well after Owner Mary had cooked and served them breakfast to threaten her with a bad review and they refused to pay her for they stay that night too. ...Oh, AND they claimed that she was much too loud in the kitchen cooking their breakfast. Are you kidding me?I understand these folks were searching for a wedding venue - and as a manager of a high end wedding venue in Minnesota, I'm going to pray for the venue staff at whatever space they end up booking...So I say to these folks, you may need to manage your logging expectations - if you wanted to rest in a place with thicker walls, standard amenities, mediocre stale breakfast, limited customer service, and somewhere you can get away with complaining enough to not pay GO TO A MOTEL next time. Don't wait until after the host has served you breakfast to tell her - A SINGLE BUSINESS OWNER - that you refuse to pay her. Who the hell do these people think they are?Mary - you did a great job, and we truly enjoyed your hospitality. As a hospitality professional, you were on point and I'm sorry that the other folks this past weekend were SO RUDE to you. If I see them again, I'm going slap them.
