I take excellent care of my Subaru Outback. Many people have commented that it looks brand new - it s a 2002 Limited model. This is where things get interesting- Bulbs in my dash were out immediately after they worked behind the dash to adjust the original alarm system. The young guy behind the counter ( I think his name was Josh) said it was just a coincidence and would not take responsibility. Fast forward 6 years later, the same bulbs magically came on, albeit more dimly. So his excuse of well it s an old car with old bulbs was just an excuse to not go back in to repair what they messed up. I knew the bulbs were out because of them messing around behind the dash and it wasn t a coincidence.Josh also tried to scare me into buying a new transmission from them, same guy saying I might get thrown through the windshield if the transmission fails while on the highway. I got a second opinion and guess what? No transmission issue. It was something else. By the way 8 years later and no issues with my transmission. Don t trust them, especially if you are a female. Other reviewers said they were honest - well not to me.

Best Subaru shop in Tacoma, had a rebuilt motor put in my old 2007 Subaru couple years ago and really liked there service, I now take it there for preventative maintenance servicing and they keep it feeling like new. Very honest shop. Pricing is quite reasonable, people there are very courteous and friendly. There shop is very organized and clean. Recommended for any Subaru owner.

Just be prepared for these guys to add more and more stuff that needs to be done. They are not trustworthy people. They did great on my breaks one weekend and then two weeks later I bring it in for something they said I needed done plus a oil change that I was already going to do else where but gave me a good price so I do screw it and let them do it. Not even 24 hrs later, less than 20 miles driven and my dashboard lights up light Las Vegas and started lagging. I was already suspicious prior to pick up based off their pick up txt to me. This happening verified my suspicions of tampering. DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!

My parents have been happy with roopair in the past and when I needed some work done on my old suby some 10 years later, I decided to go to roopair. They were transparent about costs and their inspection. I feel confident about their work and I will definitely be using them in the future.

I've had nothing but good experiences here at Roopair. Josh, Dan and everyone I've spoken with have been nice and helpful and the technicians are quick when getting an oil change on the order of about 20 minutes. I highly recommend this shop for your Subaru.Edit: March 2024, still getting work done here. Josh and the team are excellent.

My interactions with various Subaru repair shops across the country have given me a sense of what to expect in terms of service and quality. Regrettably, Roopiar Specialties stands out as the worst I've encountered. While their repair work may seem satisfactory, their customer service is undeniably subpar. My journey with Roopair began when I scheduled an "AC repair" appointment with Josh. I had previously been advised by my mechanic at home in Colorado that the fan for my AC required replacement, evidenced by experiencing numerous sweaty days in Seattle traffic leading up to my visit to Roopair.During my phone conversation with Josh, I explained that I "thought" the fan might be the culprit behind my malfunctioning AC and described its location, given that I couldn't recall its name. However, from this interaction Josh failed to grasp the fact that I am not an expert in car mechanics. The appointment was set, and several days and $399 later, my AC was still blowing warm air. Upon contacting Josh to convey this issue, I was met with him LAUGHING AT ME, as he claimed we were on completely different pages regarding the reason for the repair. While I admit I could have been clearer in my communication, I expected the mechanic to diagnose the problem rather than relying solely on my input.Reluctantly, I shelled over another $275 for further repairs because I needed a repair ASAP, which did manage to fix the AC issue. In the process I also discovered that the fan Josh initially replaced didn't even need replacement.Roopiar Specialties seems more focused on taking orders than providing competent customer service or addressing problems like a modern repair shop should. If you have the option to get your car repaired elsewhere, I strongly advise you to do so, otherwise be prepared for some of the worst customer service available.Services: Air conditioning, Oil change

This is my go to shop and has been since 2005. ( Has it seriously been almost 20 years fellas!!!)Today's service included 3x Wipers, Fluids and a peek at my break pads per request.I had the odd thought to see if they had a loaner available ( turned out they did) and as I was filling out loaners insurance agreement paper , i looked for my insurance app.( i had never downladed it after paying for a 6 month premium!!) So i set up the account...click on my policy number ( WHAT my policy had expired...7 days prior!!! And it seriously was in my grace period window to reinstate it so there would be zero lapse coverage!!!.. if i had my appt any later than 3pm today or so.. eastcoast would have closed and i would have out of luck and penialized for having no insurance...buuuuut the Universe colluded with the Stars, my breaks were good, i was a legal woman again and drove off happy til next we meet!.Seriously ... 100% thank you for being awesome ... everyday.

Going to a car mechanic always feels like a risk to me as someone who knows very little about a car's internal workings. ROOpair is the first place where I've felt like my car is in capable hands and I wasn't being charged unfairly. Prices were more than fair, even when there were unexpected issues, and Josh went above and beyond to make sure the job was done right. I felt like I was having my car worked on by a friend. I will be continuing to take my STI here for any work that needs to be done. Highly recommend for any diagnostics or repairs.

Genuinely impressed by the honesty of the guys at Roopair; they want to help you out not rip you off. If you're questioning why something costs what it costs, ask them. They'll offer a fair and factual explanation without getting defensive (like some smaller repair shops do). I highly recommend anyone with a Subaru go here before anywhere else.I brought in my Outback for a trip check and was provided with an honest assessment of what actually needs work. My car was in and out in less time than quoted, and the bill was for a reasonable amount considering the apparent quality of service.Services: Brakes, Oil change

I rebuilt an EJ22 engine and could not find good information on what kind of oil to use after break in. I called multiple service departments including the Subaru dealership in town and did not receive any good info or even a call back every time. I left a message on Roopair's phone line and received a courteous voicemail from Josh telling me exactly what kind of oil he recommends and gave me a brand recommendation as well. All this without him even working on my vehicle. Big thank you to Josh and this business will definitely get my Subaru the next time I need specialty work done.

Had my timing belt and water pump service done. Less expensive than the dealership, done in a very timely manner. My father's been trusting this place for years. They seem like a great company and I will definitely return.

Josh just did me a solid. I walked in after not using Roopair for 8 years, crying about the other shop I was using and he put me up on the rack right away, and agreed to do two of the repairs it needed immediately. Had me out of there in two hours, and he was so sweet and kind! I nearly cried. I'll never go anywhere else again. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

After reading all the great reviews I was pretty confident in this shop. I guess there's an exception to every rule. I noticed an oil leak coming from the passenger side timing cover. I assumed it was the cam/crank seal so I had the timing belt and associated parts/seals replaced, even though it was about 10K miles early. $1,800 the work was done. 2 months later, I notice the leak back again. Josh thought maybe it's the power steering fluid since he noticed it was seeping back when they did the timing belt work. It looked like oil to me, but they're the professionals so I let them do what they need to do to find out what it is and where it's coming from. Josh had me bring the car in so he could take a look. They added UV dye to the PS reservoir and asked me to come back in 2 weeks. I returned, no dye found where the leak was coming from. He asked me to come back a week later so he could take it apart to get a look in there. After most of the day in the shop, he said it was 'bone dry' in there, showed me pictures, and I took the car home again. Some time later, the leak was back. I asked some people on the internet where it could be possibly coming from if not the cam seal. I ended up replacing an o-ring on the front of the cam. No luck, leak was back. Someone else recommended adding UV dye to the oil. I bought a $9 bottle and what do you know, found the leak coming from the intake cam that Josh said was 'bone dry'. It obviously wasn't. He was adamant that it was power steering fluid leaking in there and wouldn't touch my car until the PS pump was replaced. Why they didn't add the UV dye to the oil is a mystery. Anyway, I'm sure all the other good reviews are well-earned, but I have lost my trust in them and won't be back.Follow up: The part has been replaced by another shop and is confirmed to be the fix. Oil leak resolved.Service: Engine repair

Roopair is the best Subaru shop in the region, bar none. I've been having my Subarus serviced here since about 2011. The team is honest and knowledgeable. They work quickly, at a reasonable rate, and stand behind their work.

Very honest, helpful, and professional. Would 100% recommend if your Subaru needs work. Brought my Forester in with a ticking A/C. I thought it would need a whole new compressor. But they inspected it and turned out to just need a A/C recharge. Got it fixed in an hour or so for 1/4 of what I thought I was going to spend. Very honest, helpful, and professional.

Went in with our older Forester for an oil change and asked them to replace a squeaky belt and change out our brake pads. They changed the oil, tightened the belt and told us the brake pads still had plenty of life on them. We left with a very small bill. We were happy that they only did work that was needed and didn t do the unnecessary work that we were prepared to pay for. Very fair and honest business. Would highly recommend!!

Absolutely fantastic service. No nonsense, no upselling, and no bad service. These guys have done work on my 2006 Forester a few times and I have no complaints. They work fast and are very knowledgeable. They even have a loaner car if yours is in the shop for more than a couple hours. I'll be going back to Roopair next time my Forester needs service.

I was advised by a dealership in the area that my Subaru all of a sudden had a severe oil leak and needed immediate maintenance. Skeptical of the sudden issues with my Subaru I called Roopair. Josh the Service Manager scheduled my appointment. When I arrived early for my appt, he looked at my Subaru earlier than my appointment time. He was very honest and didn't try to take my wallet for a ride!! I am 100% going back here whenever I have any car trouble or need maintenance and will be bringing all of my Subarus here. I will be recommending all of my friends and family with Subis to check out this shop. Thank you again to Josh and all the Bros at Roopair!Service: General repairs & maintenance

Took my car to a different shop 2 times and they continued to tell me I had a transmission issue. Got to RooPair and explained it to Josh. Told him what in thought the issue was, he agreed. Put on proper, good quality parts and had my car fixed and in and out within an hour. 2000 Forester with 281,000 miles and its running smooth thanks to their quick, quality work. If you have a Subie, don t even go anywhere else.

Excellent service. Went for a 90K service on my 2010 Forester while on a camping trip in the Olympic National Park (I'm from out of state). Ended up being about $100 less than the estimate! And I was out of there a couple of hours quicker than originally expected! Car is running great. Will definitely return for future service on my Subi - a great reason to plan another camping trip in the ONP and the beautiful state of Washington : )

I have never been more impressed with a repair place. I took a used Subaru that I bought from a dealer in for an inspection (You know, the one you should get BEFORE you buy the car?). They were fast, courteous, and gave me good news--I found out I bought a fabulous car! The price for the inspection was excellent, and they replaced a couple of little things the car needed. I actually look forward to taking my car there again for routine stuff.

I bought a 1999 Legacy Outback about 6 years ago and heard about Roopairs at that time. I cannot praise them enough. Great employees and the prices are reasonable. I have a friend who's son bought a Subaru and told them to take it to Roopairs for oil changes and anything else that may need to be done in the future. My father took his Subaru there to get a new battery installed. It was much less expensive then if he had it done at the dealership.

I've been bringing my older Forester here for several years and really like this shop. For me, a good and trusted auto mechanic is one of the people important to my life and when I find that person or shop, I very much appreciate them. The advice and service decisions we've made here have felt appropriate and not unnecessary, Once, it was simply suggested that I change something I was doing, like your doctor telling you to eat a better diet to see if your health or condition improves -it did. Also, they have a way for you to track things like your service history online if you want. It requires you to create a password which I try to resist but, a nice optionI now live significantly outside of Tacoma and make the drive. And it's my understanding, I'm not the only one. These are good people and I highly recommend RooPair.

I have a small fleet of Subarus. Josh and his maintenance technicians have been keeping them all running in tip top order! Between blown head gaskets and transmission problems, Roopair has been able to fix them quickly and reasonably. Thanks Josh!
