Do not use. Back in March of 2024 Rick told me and quoted me a engine replacement job. I told him I order the engine myself. He said they could do the job and gave me a quote. The engine arrived in April so I called Rick's to set up the appointment. He stated at that time he wouldn't do the service. Now I have an engine with no mechanic to install it. I will not use this place ever.

Half way into a road trip to Leavenworth for a ministry retreat, my alternator died. They got me right in and on the rack. They replaced my alternator and serpentine belt and had me back on the road in a few hours. I asked for a recommended place for us to have lunch and the owner offered to drive us to and pick us up from his recommended lunch place. We were Blessed to have found ourselves at Rick's. I have already recommended Rick to pastors that are local to there.Service: Engine repair

Overall, a good experience with Rick's. Took my Xterra in a few times for oil changes, tire install, and catalytic converter. The cats leaked a couple times, and they fixed the issue. Was told it was normal for them to not be flush, and it probably is, just kinda a pain in the butt to go back and forth and Uber home and back. Problem was rectified. Ck engine light came back on, I read the code at Autozone, and it was a cat issue. Was told to bring it back, and I'm sure they would've made it right again, but I live in Tacoma now and couldn't make it in.However, the reason for the 3 star review: I recently took car to Greg's in Puyallup for the ck engine light (history code due to Cats, Rick's repair still good), and unrelated repairs.Mechanic asked who fixed the Cats and told me the heat shields were re-installed with wire instead of nuts and bolts. This is pretty lazy and for $3k repair I would expect more out of a reputable shop.Maybe just a one-off, but still.....

Rick is honest and fair. He and his employees have gone out of their way to be communicative. I have no problems paying for expertise and that is exactly what I got. I HIGHLY recommend!

Only been there once, but Rick s service was efficient, fast, accurate and on top of that, affordable. Looking forward to go again whenever I need another car fix.

I highly recommend Rick's Diagnostic & Repair Service. My car had been diagnosed at another place with an estimate over $1100.00. I took it to Rick's for a second estimate, he came in $400.00 less. I decided to have the work done by Ricks. It was even less when it was all said and done. I received a follow up call to see how my car was running a couple weeks later. It is hard to find good, honest and reasonable mechanics now a days. All my future work will be done at this shop!

Been having problems with a Ford marine engine for 7 months . Did everything I know and couldn't figure it out . I'm a fairly good backyard mechanic and my pride won't let me quit ..well I about gave up . Rick s made an appointment to put it on the scope . Within 20 minutes he found two bad plugs (I just bought cheap ones) he replaced them checked compression on all 8 cylinders. Fired it up and it was fixed . He also pointed out low fuel to the carb and I checked the pump and it was low ..so I ordered the right parts .Glad to have knowledgeable mechanics with proper equipment in my neighborhood. They solved a 7 month problem within a hour .My dad had a guy install new spark plugs in his hemi (16) paid top dollar for iridium plugs . He kept the truck for 5.5 months .. I went to get it and it was not drivable so I had it brought to ricks diagnostic and repair . He pulled all plugs to find a old champion and two new v-power and one old burned iridium. One hole didn't even have a plug in it . And a broken coil. One hole was stripped out and had to install a " time cert " while he was in there he fixed a few other things and replaced a water pump . ..He called and said it was done ,he did a fantastic job fixing the other mechanics work and this hemi runs like new . Dad couldn't be happier . I recommend this company for auto and pick up service . Honest and to the point ,Services: Electrical, Auto engine tuning, Engine repair

Rick is very trustworthy and cordial. I had taken my car to the dealership for its routine oil change when they informed me that I also needed to have my "Power Steering Fluid" changed or flushed, among other things. I was spared an unnecessary 290+ dollar service when Rick noted that I only have electric power steering! I'd unquestionably suggest him to anyone in need of work!

Rick, Frank, Jenny, and Ryan form an incredible team. After facing disappointment with Larson Cadillac service department in Fife, I turned to them with my 2014 Cadillac ESV. Their expertise and communication skills are truly valuable to me as a customer. Over time, I've brought four of my cars to them, and I wholeheartedly recommend their services for excellent customer care and satisfaction.

I had my car stolen and I had it towed to their shop. They are very understanding and did everything they could to help me get the information I needed for my insurance company. They also were able to help me clean my car out and a place to store it until my insurance could get to it. I would recommend them to anyone looking for an honest and trustworthy shop to take your car. I greatly appreciate everything Rick and Ryan did to help me.Service: Auto maintenance

Brought my 1961 Olson Grumman step van here because of intermittent starting issues, was going to just get a new starter but they found it was only a frayed wire, saving me a lot of money and hassle. Good experience.

Best place to go to get a fair deal...actually was literally a life saver. The bolts on the left front rocker arm were halfway off and I was between checks and broke...Rick tightened the nuts up and told me he wouldn't let me leave without fixing it ....all he wanted was a few referrals, he's certified and specializes in computer diagnostics.Thanks Rick

Rick us super friendly and honest! I had taken my car into the dealer for its usual oil change and they told me I needed to have a few things done, one of which was a "Power Steering Fluid" change/flush... Rick took a look and noticed that I only have electric power steering, thus saving me a needless 290+ dollar service ! Would definitely recommend him to anyone needing work done!

I was recommended by Bill s Tune Up Center because Bill was booked for the next week. I called Rick s and was able to get my car diagnosed and repaired the same day.When giving the car history and problem, both Rick and the mechanic, Ryan, were in the room and listened without interruption. They were both completely transparent with the process and kept me updated on what was happening and why.Once Ryan found the issue, he showed me exactly where it occurred. I had an electrical problem with my crankshift position sensor/wiring. Rick ordered the needed parts, and I was able to leave in about an hour.The place is kept neatly, and the employees are very professional. I can confidently say that I walked out knowing exactly what happened to my car, and that s a great piece of mind to have when going to any auto repair shop. I have a 07 Hyundai.

I have known Rick for over 30 years. He is honesty and his work is detailed and trust worthy. Rick has Always gone way far and above. Rick investigation and diagnostic is thorough. Rick truly cares about the saftey. Ricks work on my Sons project truck..OUTSTANDING! After saying it would cost me over $1,000 to have an electric window repaired he said if I wait 7-10 business days he could do it for approximately $500. I tried offering alternatives to his parts retailers, including providing it myself, to help reduce the price but he wouldn t have it. Then left the door panel on my car taken apart so I couldn t take it home that day, even though I explicitly noted that I needed my car back that day. Would not recommend.

Would never use this place again. Prices are outrageous and overcharges for a simple diagnostic. Labor hours charged for the jobs are way over what the jobs actually take and the price for parts is inflated at least double what other local shops are charging. Tried to rip me off with a repair. I'm so happy to find a mechanic I can trust and actually has time to work on my cars when they need help. There are some other trustworthy ones in Tacoma, but every time I try to take a car in, they're booked out for weeks or months!Rick opened his shop on McKinley Ave just a few months ago. I had Rick work on my 1983 Silverado. I came in with a list of complicated problems that I had diagnosed myself and he quickly figured out within 24 hours that I was totally wrong and it was a much simpler fix than I thought it would be. He was considerate of my budget and kept things simple for me. He said there's a lot more work he could suggest doing, but he didn't want to pressure me when he know I was on a tight budget, so he let me know about some important little things to do myself like the license plate light, for example.When one major replacement was out of my budget, he made it comfortable to say no to that part of the repair. I decided to try doing that one myself first, then take it to him when I give up.The repair bill came out to be a bit lower than the estimate, which I really appreciate.He also removed a wasps nest from the truck that I didn't realize was there. I thought maybe there was one, but I didn't ever see it.Yay for Rick! I'll be a loyal customer from now on.

I will be taking all of my family's vehicles to this place from here on out. I have nothing but praise to sing for the shop.not only do they diagnose an issue that Subaru failed to find, they kept me from blowing my engine on the freeway and actually said they were surprised that I had been driving so long with a mistake on my vehicle. Considering Subaru had just looked at this vehicle and told me that it needed work, I'm very upset that they didn't notice the water pump with inches apart from where it should have been.the point is this shop caught every single mistake made in the past and they not only did the work that theydid the work at such a great price and they did such a quality job that I have nothing but faith in this shop. I am now going to be a customer for life. Thank you to you and your son for finding the issue in my car and keeping me safe on the road.

Provided a quote, did less work than quoted, did not replace shocks as quoted, did not put on module to disconnect compressor from computer. Left compressor connected after removing airbags, causing the car to attempt to lower after shutting off the car until the battery drains. Tried to take it back to them to fix, and then their explanation was a bad alternator. Tested alternator, and battery, both are fine. DO NOT GO TO THEM with a higher end or newer vehicle. They don't have the knowledge to complete the job properly, and they will charge you anyway.

Rick is a great mechanic. My old 1994 mx-3 is now running beautifully thanks to Rick. He is honest,perfessional, and reasonably priced. Rick charged $400 for less than 10 minutes of effort and when I got my car back it was sabotaged and undrivable. A fuse holder was damaged and an electrical connector going to my fuel injectors was left unplugged.This he did out of sheer hatred for the church group that was helping me with the bill.

Rick is great. Our car started making a horrible squealing sound when my wife and I visited Vashon Island over the weekend, and this was the only place open. Rick jacked up the car and took out a rock that had gotten lodged in the wheel. When I offered to pay, he just waved it off. Nice guy.

Great shop. Make sure you have the right place. Rick moved to McKinley street in Tacoma several years ago, but it's still a smart decision to use his services.

Rick was great! I had a rock jammed in my rear wheel causing a heck of noise. Rick got me in early and took care of it lickity-split. Thank goodness for the Vashon neighbor mentality.
