I had been having starting issues with my '91 Toyota Corolla for years. I'd taken it to a couple of places and the diagnosis was "everything's fine". I started hearing clunking noises and over the phone was told that it was probably my transmission. I took it to North Seattle Transmission and upon leaving it for the night, they were able to diagnose a starter issue FINALLY. I also had my transmission fluid changed. I found them professional and honest. I felt the charges were fair and that they did an excellent job on my Toyota. I now have a reliable car that runs great!!!

Rebuilt my transmission and it stalled on interstate my second time driving it, had to get it towed and have them fix it. They didn t call to me tell me they started working on it the second time around and couldn t clearly tell me what wrong. I asked for a mechanic over the phone and didn t get to speak to one. Additionally, they never gave me my warranty and I had to go back a 3rd time. According to them, they don t give out the warranty until the follow up but my original paperwork said the warranty was attached. Additionally, bald mechanic with glasses is extremely rude and condescending to customers and Kaitlyn from the front desk is rude over the phone and very unhelpful. DO NOT RECOMMEND

They rebuilt the transmission in my 2002 e250 camper van and were very highly recommended by the mechanic that I had do the original diagnostic. After my experience, I can see why. They were incredibly communicative and upfront about timing, cost and likely issues they may run into after taking the transmission off. What they quoted was what they charged. Everything was broken down and explained as I needed it to be.I just headed back for a follow up appointment that they scheduled me for and while I normally expect some upselling there was none. I would trust them with any of my vehicles. I plan on having them change a clutch in another one of my vehicles now because of the service that I received from them.Definitely would recommend

PREDATORY:click on my name to read full review.I needed a transmission filter and fluid replacement in my transmission. I called, spoke to Kaitlyn, and scheduled the service. I dropped my truck of at 8:30am, revisited with Kaitlin the work requested, transmission filter and fluid, and the quote for cost. Which was $320-$350 depending on how much fluid my truck would need. While discussing why I needed only a filter, I let her know that my transmission had been rebuilt last August and was still under warranty. I'm not from this area and the shop I got the work done with is in eastern Washington. I just need to get the truck back to them. I wish I never said that. It prompted Kaitlin to manipulate the situation so they could get the warranty work, unbeknownst to me at the time. She called me a little while later saying that they tried to run a full diagnostic on my truck, and when they test drove it the truck completely stopped working. When she says this, I'm genuinely concern. That's never happened to me. I drove the truck there. What the heck. So now my focus is on why would my truck just stop working. I'm not even thinking about her running a FULL diagnostic without discussing it with me that cost $168. Then she is telling me it's something stuck in a valve in one of the lower gears. Then I get suspicious. The truck can drive in manual and automatic. I've been driving manual. The only gear that has slipped, only 3 short times, is 6th gear. I take an Uber back up there, she charges me $168. Even though they were unable to complete said diagnostic, supposedly and never spoke with me about doing it. I'm forced pay it and sign a piece of paper relinquishing them in liability in order to get my keys back. I called and discussed this with Kaitlin to refund my money and to call b.s. on all of it. Well, I drove my truck back to Spokane to Bob's transmission. Bob drove it for 20 miles. It turned out to be an O2 SENSOR . He hooked his diagnostic tool up and that's what the code confirmed. I'm currently disputing the charge with my bank. What a headache and it just confirms those worries u have about getting scammed by a mechanic shop.I'm sure they don't practice that every single job request, but they obviously do sometimes. Unfortunate and disappointing. I love rewarding people with good integrity.

Brought my truck in because it was making a horrible noise by the transmission, but it turned out to be the catalytic converter had blown out. Not only did they properly diagnose the issue, they were able to fix it as well.

NST came highly recommended by my regular mechanic. They went above and beyond in dealing with the extended insurance company. Couldn't be happier with the service.

I went in for a simple transmission fluid change and said to change my oil while there. The oil change which is done in 15 minutes they charged $300. Are you freaking kidding me. The oil cost and $150 more in labor? For a 15 min oil change. Never will I go here again. I was ripped off. I think the manager should refund me 45 minutes labor.Services: Transmission, Oil change

The good folks at North Seattle Transmission we're very helpful at getting our 2015 Audi up and running smoothly, not only did they do a much needed service on the Transmission they identified some unknown codes from the engine and gave us a good recommendation for a shop that specializes in Audi repair, (Stones German Auto Repair ) I can not thank the repair teams at both shops enough for the fantastic service given. Thanx again TedService: Transmission

PREDATORY TACTICS- Do not use.I recently had my truck, a 2015 Toyota Tacoma professionally lifted 3 inches. The following day I heard a pulsating noise. I immediately brought it back to the Les Schwab and had a technician drive with me. He immediately knew what it was, as it is a well-known issue when lifting these vehicles in particular. He recommended changing the bearing on the front left side of the differential with a bushing. I did some research and found a ton of people stating the same thing. I called North West differential and told them exactly what I was wanting to have done. I dropped off the truck as the technician said he wanted to take it on a longer test-drive before starting the work. Without worries I left with an expectation of the work being done that day. Several hours later as I didn t hear anything I called back and was told they still needed to look at it. Next morning I call and ask status. They recommended an approximately $4 thousand dollar repair. While almost choking on my coffee I told them I d just go pick up the truck. Upon arrival I was presented with a $139 bill. I did not ask for a diagnostic to be done, I asked for the bearing to be replaced with a bushing. They did not mention any cost for leaving the truck there. She promptly said it was posted, obviously they ve had this similar situation before, I would not doubt many times.

Own a number of BMWs and am pretty particular to how my cars are maintained. I was impressed by how promptly my repair was handled and their flexibility when I asked so many questions. They went above the bar and even did some further diagnostics on my car beyond the scope of my initial repair. I would suggest this place to anyone who is sick of paying inflated prices just cause you have a premium car . Will definitely be suggesting this place to anyone in need of transmission work.

North Seattle Transmission wanted to charge me $400 to replace 4wd actuator citing it won't hold vacuum. It actually holds vacuum but the vacuum line was slipping off too easily. Electrical tape fixed it. Have a video for proof, upon request. They said the $30 part was $200.They charged me a few hundred to replace the transfer case valve. I don't have warm fuzzy feelings about the "service" this place provides. Not exactly sure why I'm expected to put their kids through college and not mine, with the fees they're charging. Intuition tells me not to go to this business and I'll be warning my friends. Also, unfriendly.

I have to give this business 5 stars, I'm happy to be treated with real honesty about a job and be explained a situation well rather than rushing into a costly repair with questionable results therefore these guys deserve a great review. Brought my car in to check out a minor oil leak on a transfer case, Dennis checked it out, and at first suspected a small leak on a shaft seal. in the end the removal of the shaft turned out to be a large job which they did not pursue due to the lack of proper maintenance documentation from the manufacturer, and it may not even would have fixed the issue for sure. They tightened up other leak sources and oil residue did not show back up. They did not charge me anything for this even though I'm sure lots of time was invested. I'm glad there are honest businesses like this out there that don't take advantage of you, would 100% recommend the place.

Worked on my differential, new differential is working fine, would have liked to have the old bearings returned to look at. Friendly atmosphere, suggest calling first and discuss your needs, they can be very busy and parking is at a premium.

I brought my vehicle in for a new transmission. Denis was extremely thorough, communicative, and detailed during the entire process and made sure everything was functioning properly before handing it off to me. I went back a week or so later per his instructions to inspect the newly installed transmission and everything looked great. Would absolutely recommend North Seattle Transmission.Service: Transmission

I recommend using anyone else. They will try to charge you for a brand new transmission when all you needed was a hose patch. They will prey on those in more desperate situations to make it worse for you. They have no concious or will to do right by people.Honor is not their value. You're better off doing the work yourself than to trust these people. 125 $ to tell you the hoses are cracked... Well duh. That took all of 5 minutes and yet you charged for an hour. I went months without a car fearing that I didn't have enough money to do the repairs when in reality it cost less than 500 and my car has worked great for months now.Look, these are not the people you want to do business with. If anything because they prey on people in less fortunate positions. Do you support that kind of behavior?

CAUTION: OVER PAID($850 vs $560 @ LES SCHWAB), POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE THAT'S MORE REPUTABLE.I initially came here to get a diagnosis to confirm my suspicion of a wheel bearing issue. After my suspicion was confirmed, I decided to go with them for the work so I don't need to pay for the diagnosis fee. They made it sound like it was a regular thing to replace both sides when I only needed the one to be replaced. Then they told me that they could get it done by the end of the day so I decided to go with it. The part was supposed to come in early afternoon so I called around 3pm because I didn't hear anything back. The manager said they didn't receive the shipment so they would have to do it on Monday, which was 3 days away. I was about to go back to the shop to pick up my car due to it was still drivable but the manager said it was already taken apart and they were not going to be able to put it back in time before closing( RED FLAG #1). At this point, I started to lose trust in them because of the LACK OF COMMUNICATION. I was left without a car the entire weekend and I had to go to work on Sunday. This required me to organize transportation to/form work. On Monday, I didn't hear anything in regards to the status of my vehicle so I called in around 1pm. The manager said they received the parts but now they might have to order an axle because the threads were deteriorated. My suspicion is that it was damaged by them when the wheel bearing was taken off. They were going to charge me for it because "it's normal when replacing it". (RED FLAG #2) They ended up using a kit to fix it and said the axle was still good. When I went to the shop to pick up my car, I asked to talk to the mechanic about what was fixed for my understanding but coincidentally, he went home early that day. I then asked to see the kit that was they used to fix the threading but apparently it was thrown out and it was trash day so it was no longer on site. Hmm suspicious. SHADY.When voicing my concerns and frustration about my experience with this business, the manager seemed to not care one bit and did not want to make it right. She did not care for new repeat customers. ( RED FLAG #3)

This is going to be a long one, but here s my story . Brought an automatic in years ago for a fluid change, etc Price was high, but I have no complaints about the work. It was a routine job and was overpriced, but it was local and they are supposedly the experts so I figured what the heck. Took my manual transmission truck in as I suddenly couldn t change gears and it was the only place I could get it to without having it towed. Needless to say, the price for their new transmission was really high, but they are the experts, right? Well, 2 weeks after the job, it started squeaking and shaking, but my truck got me to where I was going and it subsided a little. I told them down there, and Dennis seemed put out and said he didn t hear anything. It had subsided, but the squeak was still there. I did a little research and came up with a throw out bearing being the cause. It started squeaking loudly again and I took it down there to have him look at it and also told him what I saw from my research. Well, Dennis said it WAS the throw out bearing. I asked him what he was going to do about it, and he said nothing. NOTHING! I had my 2 year warranty (which I m sure isn t worth the paper it s printed on), which is the only reason I didn t dispute the original charge. Took it in a few days later to AGAIN have them look at it to hopefully have them actually do something about this issue which was part of the job. Guess what? They charged me. I again didn t dispute the charge because I had a warranty just in case it completely fell apart. Soon thereafter, my slave cylinder went bad. I didn t know this at the time that there was a slave cylinder, but no reputable place would change the transmission WITHOUT changing that piece. It literally is part of the transmission and the price these folks charge should cover 2 transmissions. Well, Dennis said he would change it and again quoted me a ridiculous price, but I took it somewhere else for half that. Well, move on 3 years after their work and I need a new transmission. It was a bad job on their part to begin with, but it did survive the warranty (which again I m sure isn t worth the paper it s printed on). Bottom line: they are not the experts they claim to be. They are way overpriced for work you can get elsewhere, and worst of all, if you do have a problem with their work (that is caused by them), they treat you like garbage and won t back up their own work. My guess is they will stab me in the back for this post and blame it on me, but is that the kind of response you want in somewhere you take your vehicle and pay an exorbitant fee? If you take your vehicle here after my experience, don t say I didn t warn you.

Misdiagnosed, Was told My Tcase needed to be rebuilt, that the fork shift inside was broke. 3500 to rebuild it. This was not the case, the rear differential ring and pinion gear was busted, not allowing the Tcase to put the transmission in 2wd.They did nothing to diagnose my truck besides get in it and say (yup its broken). My step mother had to get these guys to rebuild her transmission 2 times as well. the first time was not done correctly. Was close to our house so we decided to give them another try maybe it was a fluke. DO NOT USE THIS HACK JOB SHOP.

This is who you want handling your transmission or clutch or related project! They answer the phone every time, they take the time to explain your options and what they recommend. They kept me up to date as the project progressed and made sure my old truck was back running in perfect shape when they were done. These guys know what they re doing and they understand top-notch customer service!

Stellar transmission repair in Seattle and very affordable. I had called around many many auto repair shops in Seattle & Shoreline and got some insane prices. When I called North Seattle Transmission, I thought there was no way it could possibly be that cheap, but they came through for me. Its one month later now and my rebuilt transmission has been running smoothly ever since I got it back from them. Dennis and his helper were professional and explained the whole process very well. I hope I never have to visit them again but you can be sure if my tranny goes south again I will be back at their door.

Dennis was honest and fair. There wasn't a whole lot wrong with the transmission and that was reflected in the bill (just over $400.) I was extremely pleased with the service and the speed (they had the car for less than 24 hours.) I will recommend them to anybody.

Dennis and the crew at North Seattle Transmission has gone above and beyond any other auto center I have ever dealt with to work with me and keep me on the road. I have always had doubts about transmission mechanics, but I have found a shop that truly cares and is willing to explore any questions you may have about their service. You never hope to need transmission service, but if that day comes again I will definitely bring my vehicle back to North Seattle Transmission.

In early 2018 my Honda Civic was shifting pretty rough and the check engine light came on so I brought it to O'reillys and got a diagnostic code of P0847 (transmission fluid pressure sensor). I brought it to North Seattle Transmission to get it fixed. They said it was going to be quite simple, change the transmission fluid and change the sensor. They charged me $827 for this. A year later the exact same thing was happening, and it gave me the same code of P0847. This time I brought it to the Honda dealer in Seattle and they said I need the exact same thing, a fluid change and replace the sensor. I pulled my proof of work from North Seattle Transmission out of my glove box and showed it to the guy at the Honda dealership. He said that is the exact work they recommend and he does not know why its happening again. This time at the dealership I paid $294 for the exact same work. THIS PLACE CHARGED ME ALMOST TRIPLE WHAT THE DEALERSHIP CHARGED ME.

Took car for a pre-purchase inspection. They have no idea what they are looking at. They told me the car did not have any major issues only to find out it needed over $4000 worth of work 3 weeks later after I purchased. Don t use them go somewhere else
