Buyer beware as they will charge you a core charge and it better be new or better than the one you are getting or they dink you on the the core. I pulled a perfectly operational unit off my truck that just had age and miles and was a little sloppy so I ordered a new one and immediately sent my core back at my cost of $150 in shipping. After 6 weeks and many I calls I was told they would only be giving me $150 back instead of $300 because a couple threads were burred up.. keep in mind I payed $150 to mail it back to em and waited 6 weeks just to get my postage back and no core

***UPDATE*** 03/13/24**I spoke with Brandon at Redhead and they finally refunded my full core credit. They admitted to a major breakdown in communication combined with a potential quality control training opportunity with customer returned cores that may have been identified. I raised my review from 1 star to a 2 star rating. Although I'm glad they owned up to their mistake, it was still very frustrating to have my unit fail within the first few months and the extent I had to go to sort things out. **Do not go off their previous reputation. Quality appears to have severely gone downhill and so has customer service. Will find anything to blame on your vehicle that caused their unit to fail. On my second unit in less than 6 months and I have no doubt this one will fail as well. Company will blame aftermarket steering shafts and anything they can find for why their unit fails rather than owning up to poor quality. I will never buy another gearbox from this company again.

The quality of the rebuilt steering gear I received for my 1986 GMC K2500 is above and beyond top notch quality. I am in the auto repair industry and see a lot of poor workmanship. Red head steering gear quality is some of the best out there. Customer service is the best. My truck now drives better than it Ever has and I've owned it over 25yrs. I Highly recommend their products!

Do not buy the Redhead steering box. I have gone through 2 of them now and the one I have currently on they won't warranty as I have had it on for 14 months.I have factory size wheels, never off road and Maybe 10000 kms on it at the most.They do not stand behind their so called superior product. Don't waste your money.

I love my Redhead on my 06' Jeep LJ Wrangler Rubicon! No play! Performed flawlessly in some rough trails up in the Sierra Nevada's. Upgraded to the "big bore" Saginaw conversion unit to replace the weak Mercedes unit they came with stock. They even painted the top to match my accent colors! Excellent customer service as well! The Chevy Duramax that pulls it has a new Redhead too! These are the best rebuilt boxes on the market and made in the USA!!

I recently installed a red head box on my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 4wd and it s a big difference no more steering play and no more leaking I m very happy with this purchase and will be buying another one next time I need a steering box for something.

Purchased a steering box for 1978 Ford F-250 4x4 was shipped quick and my core refund was immediately refunded! Steering is great! I think I am glad I purchased and OEM remanufactured box Rather then s new Chinese look s like! 5 Stars

Just installed a Red-Head box (3-turn) in my 2001 Jeep TJ and wow what an improvement! Old one had 114k mi on it.Now no more slop in steering or road wondering. Steering is tight and drives straight with 35" tires using one finger. Even the steering wheel is centered on first try. Before, it was almost impossible to line up the wheel without going back and forth adjusting draglink.Highly recommend if you need a well built box of exact same dimensions as OEM unit.Recommend getting the prepaid return label and just use a FedEx drop-off.

Installed a Red Head in the old 2001 Dodge Ram, and to say I'm impressed is a gross understatement! This thing has completely eliminated the sloppy Dodge steering, and the old girl now has tight steering like a performance vehicle. A truly remarkable difference! I absolutely recommend this product. Worth every penny!!!

Amazing! Their website makes finding the right part the first time seamless and painless, e-mail contact was direct and fast to respond, shipping was amazingly fast and i asked them to send me maybe 1 sticker, they sent 3! Not to mention the drop in install, took me maybe 15 minutes! Love this company and will definitely be ordering from them again for my bronco in a few weeks!!! 1000/10 Highly recommend this company for your steering gear needs.

I'm 75 and finished replacing my 1999 Dodge Roadtrek's steering gear about a month ago. It took me an afternoon to get the old one out and I finished up the new Red Head install the next morning. I had about 6-7 degrees of wondering play before the replacement --- I can now stay in my lane! The new gear was the finishing touch after tires, shocks, stabilizer bushings, etc. And it looks great too.

Just installed a steering gear box in my 05 TJ. What an amazing difference. Was the last piece of the puzzle after a current Lync and steering shaft install. Wheel has no slop and jeep is fun to drive again. Super fast shipping and great customer service too.

Excellent product remanufactured locally in Oregon. Customer service is good, very knowledgable on comparability for different makes and models of trucks. Core returns can be completed by mail or in person and the refund is quick and painless. Best there is in the steering gear business.

Ordered a new steering gear for my 92 Dodge D250. Shipped quickly and arrived to Canada in days. Excellent product and packaging. Installed and it's made a massive difference. So impressed with this so far - highly recommend over my previously new Napa box (was still sloppy even brand new!!)Thank you for your precision and quality products. Highly recommend to all!

Just installed my new box and sent back the core. I did not receive my full credit for the core. it was working when I pulled it out of the truck but had play and now they are saying it is not rebuildable. Buyer beware or just know that they can keep your core money and not really have a good excuse. Careful with this shady practice.

Should have went with Mopar or possibly Blue Top. Steering gear shaft internal to Saginaw box has excessive play. Customer service has been non-existent with this company. Wanted to like this company, but horrible experience. No trips or anything put on vehicle yet .no wear from me. Would consider updating review if situation rectified.

These guys are the best. I had the steering box for my 74 Z28 rebuilt by them this summer. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating. I was only in the area for a short period of time, but they did the work to fit my timelines so I didnt have to pay to ship the box home. The cost was exactly as quoted so no surprises there either. The re-install is complete now and the car handles great, no more wandering all over the road.

Great knowledge on internal working of the steering boxes. Had a lot of info and were very nice to work with. Got me what I needed and was out the door in 10 minutes. Looking forward to installing my steering box and getting rid of the sloppy steering that I have now.

96 k1500 blown on 37s, 4 boxes in the last 10 years I had it all junk, put a redhead in hands down the best truck has ever steered. I have installed a few on diesels for customers always happy. First one on my personal truck and the customer feedback was spot on, these guys provide top quality boxes. Very very happy. MNR Racing approved

I have a 69 dodge charger with power steering. Box was leaking and sloppy alot of play. Looked into several companies to get a rebuilt box Red Head has the best reputation at a great price. Consider the quality of repairs and seals used. Mine is really tough to replace so I'm pleased to report the box is awesome feel and no leaks.

Extremely happy with product and service.My steering box (9th gen F150) was in stock. I'm somewhat local, so I picked up the new and returned my core in person.The office staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and the production guy I talked to was happy to answer a couple of questions.The new box looked well built and had no initial slop or other problems, and completely transformed my truck's handling. I've waited almost 1.5 years to review in case any problems came up, and there have been none. It's just as crisp as the day I installed it, and it has no trouble with the higher hydraulic pressure from my upgraded steering pump.

Just had a steering gear box replaced with a Red Head unit. Fit perfectly. Very happy that my 53 year old car has tight steering and road feel again.

I put the quicker ratio box on my 2002 Dodge 2500 cummins. We had already upgraded the linkage to 4th gen, but the factory box was tired and loose. With the Redhead box it now handles better than a new truck. This has totally exceeded my expectations!

They set the bar for customer service!I purchased a steering gear box 2 years ago, when they were in North Seattle. Started having a tiny leak, and called then. Tim was great on the phone. He told me I could bring it in early in the day and they could problem solve out that day! This was music to my ears, because I don't have an extra vehicle.Showed up on Friday morning at 9, & Gary was able to problem solve it right on the spot! Daniel & every employee we some with was very kind and informative. They seemed to be enjoying their jobs and were excellent to interact with!These gear boxes may be more expensive than others but the quality is the best in the industry, and the customer service just sealed the deal for me! Customer for life.I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT AND THIS COMPANY!

Ordered a competitors steering gearbox and was getting the run around on shipping, b/o status, etc. Called Redhead and got someone on the phone right away as I couldn't find my application on their website. Spoke with Derrick and was very pleasantly surprised. Super helpful, knowledgeable about the parts and offered advice on the differences between products. I did not know this was a family owned/ran company, I will be sure to recommend to others for their gearbox needs.

I couldn't be happier with these guys. I had a steering box on an antique project vehicle that was discontinued years ago. I couldn't find a replacement anywhere in stores or online. I tried Redhead and they had one sitting on the shelf for me ready in a moments notice. It has many upgraded parts over mine and was a very reasonable price. The guy at the counter was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. These guys run a good business!

I am so happy!! Finally after 3 attempts by other rebuild manufactures, Redhead has fixed my sloppy steering problem. The other 3 gear boxes I went through in the past 8 yrs have all failed and starting leaking soon after they were installed out of a side plate. I am so glad I found this company. Wish I would have found them sooner is my only regret. These guys are definitely worth any added expense. They obviously have a passion for doing outstanding work!!

Bought a steering rack online, not a gear box, from these guys and 2 months later the seal blows out and all the fluid leaks out immediately. Changed the rack out with one locally and it worked great. Sent the bad one to Red Head. They sent the Rack to another company, where they originally bought it from, and had it tested before they would refund me. After over three weeks of calling Steve everyday he finally calls me back and says my pump was burnt and that is what destroyed the seal. My pump was not burnt. Actually it was brand new. Never did I have any discoloration or noises from the pump. It had brand new fluid too when it went out. They paid me out the refund but of course all of the shipping charges was on me. Not putting down their Gear Boxes but if you plan on buying a steering rack for a Dodge Dakota, don't go here.! They don't even work on them. They get it from some flimsy shop that is a friend of theirs.
