This is the shop I chose when I first arrived in Virginia Beach, it was recommended to me by a friend. I have had several repairs from the shop such as a timing belt change, oil changes, an alternator and a valve cover gasket. However, when the alternator was installed, it was not connected to a source of power and caused my car to die at 3 am when I was on my way home from work. I will attach a picture of the alternator I took that night. The valve cover gasket was also a messed up repair because I never even had it fixed. I was charged $125 for it. I had to fix a misfire on my car earlier this week that was caused by the gasket never being changed and it had leaked oil onto my coils. I asked if I could do anything about the damage caused to my vehicle because of the situation and I was told there was nothing that could be done.

INTEGRITY: I called and talked with Carolyn about a problem I was having with my ZJ. Carolyn used her knowledge and experience and steered (pun intended) me in the right direction. She helped me diagnose my issue and this helped fix my jeep. Even though she didn't make any money off of me she did the right thing. They will have my business in the future. I have 6 vehicles, something will need repair sometime. TY Carolyn!

I dropped my 2013 Ford Focus there for a pre-purchase inspection on 4/8/24. They said it would be $185 and a thorough inspection. When I called on 4/10/24 to ask about status, the gentleman ruffled through papers and told me that my transmission is about to burn up, I m leaking oil, and I have a catalytic efficiency code. I asked if it was ready for pickup, and he said yes. When I showed up a few hours later, I stood and waited while he typed two sentences on a piece of paper as my report. That basically listed two codes, which I was already aware of for the small leak and catalytic converter. Anyone can buy a $25 code reader on Amazon. I feel like I paid $185 to be told my car is loud and I have two codes. Feels like a a huge waste of money, which is a shame because I have referred people after my sister had a positive experience about a year ago.

If you are Military stay away from this place! The owner is a shark who advertises military discounts to get you in the door. Once in you can expect dishonesty, highly inflated pricing, and strong arm tactics if you take your business elsewhere. This shady place should be blacklisted by JAGs at Norfolk Naval Air Station, Oceano, and other military facilities in the area to keep our service members from being hustled.

On the phone told me probably would be a couple hundred bucks to swap exhaust if no rust but needed to see the car upon seeing the car (completely modded show car) price jumped to $900 they had did my husbands a few months prior for $350 same exact car just different engine size. He called them after I left them price went back to $350 took my car told me it would be a couple hours dropped it off around 2 at 5 we call they say it will be ready the next day . Next day they call and say Tuesday due to the holiday and certain things needing to be done and that person not being there to fix it. I specifically explained to them the care that needed to be taken with my doors (upgraded to lambo doors) but they swung them open with no care causing it to push in the fender slightly (I fix this myself but it s the principle) so they had my car for a day and some change saying this needed to be bent blah blah blah for nothing. Told me to come back Tuesday to get it installed if I wanted to pick my car that day without waiting. Needless to say I did not return found a shop near me and had this work done for $250 no extra bending or anything needed and done in 2 hours. They were a lot better when my husband dealt with them WOMEN BEWARE

Got back from sea and my battery was dead and they change out my battery in 20 minutes. Everyone was friendly and didn t hesitate. If you are military this is a great place to go. Thanks guys

Quoted my son almost $1300 for a starter and then when we went and picked it up after telling them we were going to take the car somewhere else they told us to bring it back when whoever we had repair it did it wrong and it broke down on him. Very unprofessional to speak to anybody like this

As I was experiencing a problem with my vehicle!I contacted Indian River Transmission and brought my vehicle in !!! The Crew was professionally, attentive ,careing,considerate and reassuring!Despite me getting there 7 minutes before They closed!!! Letting me know that they would diagnose and contact me asap.I appreciate them so much for their service.

Words cannot describe how grateful I am for the extraordinary service that the techs at Indian River Auto performed on my 2003 Honda civic ex. To be honest, I thought that there was no more life for my car after blowing the engine. However, as soon as the car arrived on site, the team immediately performed diagnostics to determine the issues of my car, keeping me informed every step of the way about the status of my car. They had what I consider as a huge task of resuscitating my car with the installation of a new engine along with a few other issues that needed to be addressed. And you know what? THEY DELIVERED!!! My car is running so smooth now, as if it was fresh off a new car lot! This place consists of a team of highly trained professionals, and I would recommend ANYONE to bring their vehicle here for service. I took my car down there to have a thermostat put in and they charge 531 dollars. They were saying that the labor called for 2 hours and the average labor on a thermostat job is a hour max. I would recommend people don't use these guys cause they a ripping people off my charging them more than the job requires. And also charging your more cause you bring your own part. That's because they can't rip you off on that also. I will never use them or recommend anyone to use the again

Convenient location, polite staff, good communication with customers. Labor rates seem a little high, but at least they didn't charge me for the extra time it took for a tricky job.

***Even further edit to add** They never helped repair or replace my vehicle and I was never offered a refund. I lost all $1,700+ and my vehicle.*Edit: When I took my car to them I was having problems with it starting up after fueling. They found the timing to be the problem, as well as the catalytic converters and the purge valve. I paid over $1,700 to get a timing belt comp kit, catalytic converters, purge valve, fuel system cleaning, and some routine fluid maintenance. Less than a month later my car broke down about an hour and a half away and they left me stranded. My timing belt that they were supposed to have just changed snapped and bent some pins in my motor. I called them multiple times immediately and was told that they would contact me back. They never contacted me until I went up there in person days later (since I didn t have my car it was difficult for me to find a way there). Only when I went in there in person and threatened with a lawyer did they even attempt to try to help me resolve my issues 4 days after my car initially broke down The timing belt was never actually changed by them (there were no numbers or even traces of numbers on the belt), and their neglect cost me my entire vehicle.The atmosphere is nice, the employees are fun yet down to business when necessary. I came in with a car problem, it took a few days for them to go over everything (it had been a couple years since I d even had a tune up). They completed several things, and my car does idle and run a bit smoother. The main issue that I originally had is still unresolved, however they re taking it back in and retesting everything to try to repair what is not working correctly. Overall I would absolutely not recommend them.

We took our Toyota Highlander to 4 different mechanic repair shops to get an engine diagnostic and possible repair. I have to say Indian River Auto & Transmission Repair stands out with their exemplary service. The only ones who gave us the different options to repair/replace our engine. We have a warranty and not all mechanic repair shop accepts them due to the tedious paperwork involve. Special mention to Jonathan who did an excellent job taking care of all the paperwork necessary so the warranty people would cover our repairs. There are not many honest mechanics out there, or ones who are willing to go above and beyond their duties. I highly recommend them for the true work they do, the compassion and care they showed us. We appreciate you Jonathan and the entire team. Thank you for caring for our Highlander and your patience. Definitely will get a recommendation from us on the excellent customer service, no other mechanic shop could offer.Service: Engine repair

I'm new to the area having lived here less than a year and I needed to get some work done on my xterra. I've taken it to the nissan dealer once and had a horrible experience, go figure. So I decided to try somewhere close to home and was met by Jonaas 4 than, with exceptional customer service and professionalism. I was able to wait and get the work done promptly. All around good experience and for a great price. 10/10 would recommend.Services: Tires, Oil change

This shop is wonderful! My car started making an awful noise while driving after having work done by another mechanic, and they were able to see it quickly and tell me what the problem was. They were very thorough in describing things to me and reassuring me about the state of my car. I would highly recommend them!

This place is excellent! I dropped my classic car (O2 Buick Lesabre ) off with an in-op driver side power window at 4pm today 5/16 and was picking it up fixed to perfection at 545pm, on the same day!!!!!! These guys do it all, no job to small, too big, too complicated, very professional and they really care, other shops quote 5 days for a oil change, not IR auto and trans. Huge relief and comfort knowing you have a shop you trust and that cares about your car, my grandpas Buick is in good hands. Thanks guys!!!!

These guys are AMAZING! Very courteous and knowledgeable in what they do, and they do phenomenal work! I had to get my alternator, exhaust and engine manifold replaced and provided a lot of information plus went in depth on why I had certain issues and how to avoid them in the future. They even provided help when I had poor service done from another establishment! I will always vouch for Indian River Auto & Transmission Repair and will forever be a customer!Services: Exhaust, Engine repair, Air conditioning

I dropped my car off on the weekend with a broken oil pump control valve seized in my engine block. Mike answered right away at 8AM on Monday when I called to ask about getting on the schedule. He was able to get the car on the lift and immediately recognized and conveyed the severity of the issue. He was upfront about the substantial risk associated with the repair, which required tapping the threads in the engine block which was severely corroded. The aluminum block can crack when tapped, which would basically require an engine replacement. Most auto shops won t even consider attempting the repair because of the risk. Mike got the old part out, flushed the engine and changed the oil to complete the repair. He was consistently immediately responsive, up front and honest. And most important - he was able to do clean up the near disaster because corrosion never sleeps. Make sure you get everything in writing, especially warrantees and agreed upon work (don't discuss over the phone, or if you do, confirm all discussions with an email or text). After a few thousand dollars and multiple prolonged periods without my vehicle, my transmission is still broken. I was first told over the phone that the repair work was covered by a year-long warrantee (and they even took it back, once, to work on it again, and the transmission was behaving around town). When the transmission issues returned after a couple months (and my first highway trip), I was suddenly told there is no warrantee (I don't understand how there was one last time they took it back in, but suddenly there is not one, despite being within the year window). They are now claiming they told me to buy a whole new transmission in the first place (I would have if they actually did tell me this).The folks at the front desk are lovely and very helpful, and it seems many other folks have had great experiences with this place.Services: Transmission, Electrical repair

I had a diagnostic done on my Kia Soul and it was done extremely fast . I was told what the problem was and it was my catalytic converter and within a hour they had the new part delivered and was installing it. I was asked if I wanted to try for financing through Koalafi and I was approved very fast. The two Gentlemen Johnathan and Mike at Indian River Auto and Transmission really was Awesome in their Service. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IF YOU NEED REPAIRS TO COME HERE. I took my Mazda to get the odb2 port fixed and the price was $300.00 the next day I spoke to Mike he said it would be $700.00.I think Mike is going to ruin this business with his messed up attitude.I will never go back there until he is gone. Great trustworthy business. They did right by me and worked real hard to accommodate my schedule. They actually got my car fixed quicker than quoted. Fair pricing as well. Great job everyone. Would recommendCar wasn't shifting out of first gear, needed new transmission.

Review edited at the request of the shop:It is a fact that my car was held for longer than was quoted (5 days). I was originally presented with 4k in "reccomended" repairs which honestly horrifed me.I was told if I did not fix these things my engine would fail and my wheels would fall off. I ended up approving repairs that I later found out were not needed, I also found out my catalytic converter was not clogged (and my engine would not fail) and my struts were fine (my wheels would not fall off).They did work with me and were patient and considerate of my situation.

I put a before comment on here that's before I got my car back which set up there for almost 3 months I have the receipts I have everything that I paid my hard earned money for and I know now nothing was done the day I got my car back the mechanic challenged me on the oil he and the girl behind the desk hooked up the code reader to clear the code and that was it I'm going to take this to court I literally only wanted to do business with mike and Johnathan but mike ran another store and idk what was uo with Johnathan my car still isn't fixed I simply have not complained because I'm afraid to take it back to them and wait another 3 months to get an even worst result like I did the first time literally guys if you didn't know how to fix my car than you should've just referred me to someone new you guy took my money and just said to hell with me now I'm just going to lawyer up oh and when I asked to see the old parts they weren't there so I covered all tracks do not use them they are the real meaning of if you are a women don't go without a mechanic this new mechanic looked at my car and said he highly doubts that anything was done now my car is back parked on the street and barely made it to my house this is heartbreaking because I've explained my story and I really put my trust into them as they reassured me it was going to be fixed...

I took my vehicle for a bumper to bumper diagnostic check, and the service was nothing but excellent from the entry in the door. Very friendly staff and environment. I will definitely recommend this business if your looking for good quality/very detailed work. I will come back for future business!

I first have to say this place is the best. The customer service is through the roof. I personally dealt with Mike and I promise you he had my best interest from the first phone call. They put a transmission, water pump and a few other things on my daughters car. He took care of me from a far distance and I felt comfortable from the beginning. I can t thank y all enough for taking care of us the way you did. My daughter got in her car and was smiling from ear to ear. She said mom it s so silent and drives so smooth.
