They recommended to change my brakes too early on two vehicles. Every time after getting an inspection. The first time I changed them through them but got suspicious after recommending brake pads again on my wife's car that's two year old at the time and basically driven. Was told the sensor should be notifying us soon and it's best to be replaced them now. Had it checked out at maintenance through the dealership and said it had a WHILE to be replaced. Even now, dealership says I still have another year until it has to be replaced. Keep in mind we rarely drive this suv so this scam would work who drives high miles. Be cautious.Still driving after 2 YEARs later and no brake sensor they mentioned.. Will not be visiting this local chain at any locations, really thought they were trustworthy

Been taking my car here for the past 3 years or so. I've had them do multiple oil changes, light replacements, inspections, re-inspections, and a brake replacement. The service is always quick, there's always an appointment available within a few days of calling, the prices are great, and the staff is always helpful and kind. The place is managed quite nicely and is never packed, even at the end of the month. I don't have much else to say. This place is great.

I had an emergency repair issue with my brakes. My car was making an awful noise on my way to work, so during lunch, I took it over. Even though they were really busy, they took a look at my car without an appointment and told me they could take care of it since it was not safe to drive. I came in at 2 pm and my car was ready by 4 pm so that I could drive home from work safely. I was really impressed by how quickly they got the work done, reasonable pricing on parts and labor, and that they really cared that about me as a customer.

It was in 2012. I was about to buy a used SUV from a local guy, so I decided to have the car inspected at a local auto shop. I went to Herndon Auto Care since I had used them for oil change etc in the past. The staff talked calmly and nice in my past visits, which I liked.Wrong decision. They did an "pre-purchase inspection" and came back with a written report indicating the car was in great shape mechanically and there was nothing to worry about. So I happily paid for their service, and bought the car from the guy. But when I went back the next day for state inspection (couldn't do it the same day, which was a mistake on my end), they all a sudden found the engine mount had a problem to be fixed and they could not let pass the state inspection without it. The cost was $500+. I asked them why they did not find it the day before, they simply said the technician "usually does a good job but he missed it". No apology, no discount. I never went back to Herndon Auto Care, and advised my friends not when they seek for recommendations.

Excellent customer experience! Fast, courteous, and extremely trustworthy. I first went there for a second opinion after another mechanic told me I needed new brakes and new tires during a safety inspection. Herndon Auto Care told me otherwise, and I got more than 2 extra years on both following minor repairs before they actually needed replacing.Herndon Auto Care consistently goes above and beyond when it comes to helping you fix whatever issues you have, even if they are busy (which they usually are, so make an appointment).Bill at the front desk is not only pleasant to deal with, but he is really great at plainly explaining any current and potential future issues you have in easy to understand terminology. I always feel confident that I'm fully aware of my car's status after leaving.

I brought my 2006 Chevy Malibu to this shop for a diagnostic test due to the check engine light being on. I was thoroughly impressed with the service I received from the staff. It turns out that I had a computer issue, and the Herndon Auto Care Staff provided a solution that would save me money! I appreciate their honesty and I definitely look forward to using them for my auto repair needs in the future!

They are great!! Always remember me when I'm there. Pointed out an issue that was still covered under my warranty, didn't try to make me do the work there. They are genuine people!!! Purchased the year long punch card, the oil changes pay for themselves.

I took my husband's car in for the yearly safety inspection plus a couple other things. Before they even started the official safety inspection, they told me the headlights weren't going to pass (needed resurfacing), and asked if I still wanted the inspection done. I thought that was really nice of them. They didn't pressure me to have them do the headlights, either; just told me I could buy a kit and do it myself, or have them do it. This is by far the best/most honest mechanic shop I've been to.

Definitely one of the more honest and straightforward repair shops in the area. I unfortunately visit too often owning 3 cars - 2 of which are old. The prices are fair, and I'm never surprised by unexpected charges common in the auto repair industry. Herndon Auto is run the way a service business should be -- with integrity, great customer service, and quality workmanship.

Needed to get State Emissions test done so that I can get car registered so went to Herndon Auto Repair as it s close to my work. I was able to drop it off at 7 am even though they don t start doing inspections until 8 am. Picked it up at 11:30 on my lunch break. Fast and easy. I high recommend then for any emission tests that you may need to have done.

Herndon Auto Care is very reliable and trustworthy. Their prices are very reasonable and the service is exceptional! They are very genuine and give the best car advice. I've had numerous oil changes, car inspections and brakes changed here. I recommend Herndon Auto Care to anyone seeking their car to be serviced.

This review is particularly for the Virginia State Inspection at this facility. It was the most genuine and quickest state inspection I have experienced in years. I was 3rd in the queue and it took about 30 minutes of wait but was really delightful was that there were no unnecessary issues called out for a 15 year old car and the total time it took for inspection was under 15 mins. I have not yet used other services but would try out based on the experience.

I've done business with the people at Herndon Auto Care for 30 plus years. They are reliable, professional and I trust them to give me the truth. If it needs fixing they will price it before repairs start. They have went above and beyond for me numerous times. They deserve a 5 star rating.

I only go here for my auto repair work and have been going here ever since this stopped being a Texaco gas station many years ago. Most of the negative reviews reflect unreasonable expectations regarding service rates for this area or for bringing your own parts and expecting them to install them for a few dollars or with an unfamiliarity of the State Inspection manual. The State Inspection manual is nitpicky and they follow the rules. I don't blame them for not risking their inspection license or for not letting customers drive unsafe cars. I find Bill and Mike to be honest and I trust what they recommend. I have had work come in under quote because they were able to repair something instead of just replacing it.

I called this shop early Friday morning to ask if my boyfriend could stop by before work to check why our low pressure tire light has been on for about a week (it usually turns on with change of weather but turns off within a couple days). We have free maintenance through our dealership but it is 45 minutes away so I wanted to see what the issue was before driving out there (nail in tire, sensor issues, or just simply low tires etc). The man who answered was extremely condescending and VERY rude. He told me to just fill up the tire myself since "that's what those lights are for, obviously". We decided to go to another place solely based on the attitude I received. I recommend some customer service training, it will get you far.

They are honest and do good work.I've brought my car to them when I knew the problem but was unable to fix it myself. Their diagnosis has always matched mine - they have never tried to upsell me on unnecessary repairs or services, which is refreshing.

The worst customer service I've ever experienced! Yesterday, I stopped by to have an emissions inspection done on my car and was informed the hours of operation is 8-4. However, their inspector left early because he was sick. They told me to call in the morning to make sure he'll be there. This morning I called at 7:45 and was informed they will start at 8. I arrive @ 5 mins early. After waiting for 15 mins, I go inside. One of the techs ask am I here for the inspection and I say yes. He says, he'll be here in 15 mins. I proceed to go back outside and wait, and wait, and wait! No one had the professionalism, customer service, or decency to tell me when I called or arrived. I will never go back to Herndon Auto Care!!!

I went to Herndon Auto Care recently due to squealing noises coming from my serpentine belt on a 2004 Honda Accord. They diagnosed the issue incorrectly, stating I needed a new belt and power steering hoses.After close to $400 worth of repairs, the noise came back the next day. They said that the issue was now the power steering pump and would cost over $700 of which was $300 for labor.No apology.The owner seemed very nice but the work was inefficient and now I'm left where I started, $400 out. Would not recommend.

Great place to go! I had to replace my EVAP Purge when my check engine light came on and Bill was very helpful with the whole process! I called and the next day I had an appointment, dropped it off during my lunch, and had it back the next day before my lunch break. My Technician was Mike J. I highly suggest going here :)

I called about making an appointment for a VA inspection and emissions test. There is no need for an appointment, but the gentleman I spoke with did suggest that the shortest waiting times were midweek after the 3rd or 4th of the month. I went in on the 5th, on a Tuesday, and was able to get my car inspected right away. Within 25 minutes, they'd completed my inspection and I was on my way. By the time I'd gotten home, it was posted to DMV's site and I was able to register my car right away. Everyone here was friendly, professional and polite. Great service!

Low quality auto mechanic and poor customer service. The manager Bill yelled at us and slammed his fist on table after they did a terrible oil change and spilt oil all over engine and our car had issues. After taking my car there off and on at least 5 times for oil changes (because of valpack discounts) and feeling like the quality of the oil change is quick, low-service quality, we finally had the ultimate frustrating experience that pushed me now to not even settle for cheap, low quality oil changes and to write a review so others do not get the same mistreatment. We took our car in to get synthetic oil change $90, at end, they said they couldn t get the oil filter off so didn t change it, (yeah right, they just didn t want to take time to do it) but still charged me!! Then when driving the car home, sitting at light the car wouldn t Excellerate! So turned off car and took a moment to turn on. So went straight back to herndon auto to find what they did. But at 4:30 no one was there (they close at five). They did a crappy, quick change then left early!! We were headed out of town the next day so we showed up at 7 am when they opened and the mechanic just didn t show up and Bill the manager started yelling at us! He even slammed his fist on the counter!!! He said it was our fault. We opened up the hood and oil was spilt everywhere!! They just didn t take time to do it right and STILL CHARGED US, no discount, and EXTREMELY RUDE service!! Will never go here again!!

I'm consistently pleased with the service here. The work is high quality. I am always given a clear and thorough explanation of recommended work so I can make an informed decision about whether something is worth fixing/replacing/maintaining or not (as I drive a car with 200000+ miles).

Took my 16 years old car for oil change. The whole experience has been pleasant. They didn't try to recommend or coerce me into unnecessary repairs. They do not have parking however they were upfront about it.

Totally honest. I brought my van to them with what I thought was a CV joint noise. They inspected the joints and steering, took it on an extended test drive, and couldn't find any problem. And sure enough, I didn't hear it myself anymore. Plenty of shops would have just tossed a new axle in it anyway and I probably would have been happy to pay for it.

No complaints at all. I brought in a coupon for a $25 oil change/tire rotation, and he finished the job in 45 minutes. Very polite management and car runs fine!

I called them a few days ago and asked if I needed to make an appointment for a diagnostic check on Saturday. They said no and that I could just bring it in on Saturday. So I woke up early on Saturday, my one day off, and brought my car in for the diagnostic check. The guy at the desk said they were full and couldn't take any more cars that day. Thanks for nothing. Also, their website says they have a computer kiosk. It should be illegal to call that embarrassment a computer kiosk.

I went in for my annual inspection and they told me I did not need my emission done. When I found out I did I went back perfectly happy to pay and have it done. Both the techs and the counter staff spent more time telling me I was at fault for not having it done than doing the work. My first visit was so good I went back even with the mistake, but I will never go back again.

Great service and very competitive prices. They thoroughly explain diagnoses and options. I first visited this shop about 10 years ago - service has been excellent every time. I highly recommend them.

giving them 5 stars, guys are great, mechanic is good an honest, prices are fair, I do have one suggestion though, as I did my inspection here last year and all their records are gone due to move, please improve the database system to be more resilient and redundant, ppl wouldn't mind paying for a copy if it's less than paying for inspection again plus it could be for court which is not in my case, other than that awesome place
