This place on Franklin Road is horrible. We dropped our truck off for new tires. They claimed there were no discounts on them then we found $40 off on line. They acted like they were doing us a huge favor to honor the advertisement on their own website. They said it would be 1.5 hours. They called 1.5 hours later (we re expecting they re calling to say it s ready); instead it was to tell us we had to have a serpentine belt. We declined the attempted up- sell. Then they said the truck would be ready in 1.5 hours - they hadn t started yet. When we finally pick it up, it reeks of marijuana. The technician actually smoked pot in our vehicle while test driving it after putting the tires on. When we confronted the manager, he said he was sorry and asked how he could make it right. You can t that horrible smell is very difficult to get rid of - and now we know their technicians are high while working on the vehicles and the managers are not supervising the work. Not safe, not reliable.

I took four new mag wheels and tires to be mounted and balanced and was told that they could do it. These were custom wheels. I dropped them off in boxes and was called soon after that they could not mount the tires as their machine was too old. Seemed reasonable in the moment. I took the wheels elsewhere and when the box was opened, the two wheels that they tried to mount were damaged from their machine and are not repairable. These were not small scratches. At this point, I probably have no recourse but a courtesy of telling me that they had caused some damage at the time would have been the right thing to do rather than put them back in the box and not say a word. That is dishonest. Also, understanding that they could not get the tire on one wheel, they tried a second wheel which does not make sense, they should have stopped on the first one when they could not get it mounted. This shop is not well run and should not be taking on work that they cannot handle. Word to the wise, be careful getting work done at this location.

I took my vehicle to NTB to get my brakes checked and had a great experience. The mechanic Damian took the time to explain what was going on and made me feel safe again in my own car. John and Tim are really nice and easy to deal with up front. Will bring all my cars to NTB!

Recently bought 4 new tires from NTB and less than 30 days later, I ran over a big screw which ruined my tire instantly. I was out and about when my tire pressure started falling dramatically. Pulled into NTB with only 14 psi left in my tire. They took it in the bay immediately to observe the issue. Unfortunately they did not have the brand of tire on hand, but Daniel went above and beyond and drove across town to get the tire I needed. I sat in the lobby, had some lunch and a nice chat while I waited. Soon I was off to finish my day safely with a new tire replaced. Thanks for your help Daniel and the great customer service.

Had an appointment with another tire retailer, that was not put in correctly, so I was not able to get my tires. NTB was able to get a new set of tires before I hit the road for vacation. They gave me a good deal and had me on the road fairly quickly.

I must commend the exceptional customer service and mechanical expertise demonstrated by the team at NTB in Salem. Upon bringing my vehicle in for a routine check engine light diagnostic, I was pleasantly surprised by the dedication and diligence exhibited by the garage manager, ticket manager (whom I believe is named Mike), and the outstanding employee Damian Geris.Their meticulous attention to detail led them to discover extensive water damage and a skipping transmission in a car I had recently purchased, a revelation that undoubtedly saved me from potential future complications and expenses. Their proactive approach exemplifies a level of professionalism and commitment that sets them apart.I wholeheartedly endorse NTB in Salem as the premier choice for all automotive needs, whether it be pre-purchase inspections or routine maintenance. In stark contrast, the NTB branch on Franklin Road lacks adherence to proper policy procedures and company regulations, potentially jeopardizing customer satisfaction and vehicle safety.Without hesitation, I affirm NTB in Salem as the epitome of excellence in both service and customer care. Their stellar staff and unparalleled commitment to excellence make them the preferred destination for automotive services. If it were within my power, I would gladly award them ten stars.

On the way out of town I noticed that I had a low tire. I was reluctant to get on the road until I had it checked out. I had just dropped my dog at the kennel in Salem and decided to stop by National Tire and Battery. It was pouring rain, and the shop garage doors were open. There were no cars or customers and staff was hanging out near the garage door. An older man was smoking, and I hopped out and asked him if they could check out the tire. He had a sneer on his face and was not welcoming. He stated not in this rain in a nasty tone. I started to ask if I could get checked in and wait, but decided to leave after the hateful interaction. He never laughed, offered to take a look or ask what they could help with. There are 3 tire and battery shops right in that same block so I pulled into the Goodyear tire shop and a nice young man said he would be happy to check it. I thought I would be pulling in to a bay, but he came out in the pouring rain and checked and filled each tire. He took time to talk to me and help me make a decision to go on and get on the road, but check it again later.I thanked him and asked the charge and he said no charge. I told him about my experience at NTB, and he laughed and asked me to describe the gentleman who was rude and said that was the manager!Do not give them your business or money!

What can you do late on a Saturday afternoon when you suddenly find that one of your car tires has lost 20 pounds of pressure? The answer this veteran is happy to have found is to call Joe at National Tire and Battery on W. Main St. in Salem, VA. Joe took my car in immediately, quickly diagnosed the leak and fixed the tire, and all with a smile and thanks for my military service. Thanks, Joe, for your great customer service. I will be back!

Star rating is only for wait time: I arrived on time for appointment. Waited about and 45 minutes for them to actually service my car. Staff was friendly.Additional info: I made the mistake of not reading their fine print coupon for Valvoline conventional oil change ($18.99)to not including oil filter. They added the oil filter on for $12, totaling $35.12. The interesting part is how do we know they will not recommend oil filter? It seems the coupon is a good placement to lure customers in for oil change reasonable price then tack on oil filter for profits.By technically of coupon, I agree I am in the wrong for misunderstanding. I went to NTB cuz Mr. Tire was busy.I recommend Mr. Tire down the road from NTB, they have a better oil change coupon (Valvoline conventional) which the coupon has the oil filter price listed ($2.90). In the past I paid total of somewhere around total $28 ish including oil filter. In terms of marketing, it appears Mr. Tire coupon is more honest up front by letting the customer know what may happened thus affecting price.NTB marketing advertised coupon in their favor by not mentioning filter, until you're ready to pay. Smart move on NTB, business is synonymous with manipulation.Thought I share coupon info is for competitive pricing info :)See pictures of NTB vs Mr. Tire coupon for comparison. Happy shopping!

That's it, I'm done with NTB. I called yesterday to ask about getting an inspection and oil change, and the person who I spoke with said I could bring it in this (Saturday) morning, no problem. I even asked if an appointment was needed and he said "nah, just drop it off in the morning." I was there a few minutes before they opened, and when they unlocked the door walked in with another person who needed an inspection. The man greeting us told us "the inspection station is closed." I told him I'd called and was told I could drop it off and he said "we only have one inspector and he's filled up already." I've made an appointment somewhere else and will not be going back to NTB. I can get tires somewhere else next time.

Will not be back. Not impressed bye Jonathan Aurand the manger. Took my truck there for brake issues. They replaced the rear brakes. A day later they overheated. They replaced the left rear caliper. Had to stand on the brakes to get it to stop. Took it back to get brakes bleed. Saw my truck shake and shift and slide off the lift they used in the bay closest to the reception area. Jonathan didn't bleed all the brakes and rounded the bleed valve of the one he didn't bleed. Brakes where still mushy and felt unsafe. Wanted $335 to fix a problem they caused. Took it back a few days later and took my dad and showed then the nick on my tire. Jonathan was very rude and called me a liar and said nothing could fall off the lifts and that I did it myself. We left after dealing with him. Still have to stand on the brakes to get it to stop.

I will not be back! I made an appointment to have 4 tires installed. When I did so they asked me what size the tires were and what they went on. I of course told them the size and that it was a F350. So I make arrangements so someone to meet me there on a Saturday so I can leave it. But... after arriving I am told that they do not have a lift that can lift it. I said... that would have been nice to have been told that when I made the appointment. The only response I got was, "did anyone ask you what kind of vehicle?" I stated yes! All I got was a "sorry about that". As I stated, I won't be back and will pass this on to everyone I know.
