I LOVED these people. I went there a few weeks ago to get my car inspected and the people were all as nice as could be. I am a little blonde college girl who would appear to have little knowledge about cars (and I truly do not know much besides the very basics). He brought me and my boyfriend back to the shop to show me exactly what was wrong (he brought us both so that I would know I was not getting ripped off). Very trustworthy, especially for someone like me who could very easily get manipulated.

My alternator died yesterday morning, called United & they said they'd work it in. To avoid towing, I was able to limp my SUV over to them (took 2 jumps) from the Advance parking lot. Already had the part, so installation was all I needed, as well as a state inspection. In the end, everything with United cost just over $200, with the install, inspection & a replaced taillight, and I was back on the road just before they closed at 5. Thrilled! My husband's been taking his vehicles there for years without issues.

Brought my mercedes over there. They broke a hose that never needed to be removed and then charged me $56, did a job without diagnosing the problem first. Cost me over $200 and nothing was fixed. Also took 2 weeks. I took the car home and did the correct job myself in 1 day without touching the hose. I used to recommend everyone here. But I wouldn't recommend anyone now.

Previous poster is off her rocker. This woman had no problems getting an honest quote for work on her vehicle and prompt service, even without an appointment. I was treated very fairly and was even shown exactly what needed to be done and why. My husband already knew what would need replacement; this shop confirmed it and didn't try to sneak in any up charges or unnecessary services. When I recently went back for another issue, they charged a reasonable amount for labor tracking and identifying the cause of the problem and provided a temporary repair that would keep my vehicle safe and road worthy until parts came in to complete the work.I've been shown every courtesy there by every member of their team. They'll continue to have my business.

DO NOT GO THERE FOR INSPECTION!I went here to get my car inspected and they told me three things:1) My headlight had water in it, i needed a new one2) My serpentine belt needed to be replaced3) My transmission mounts needed to be replacedThey asked for over 700$ for all of this, plus more for labor, so I took it to East Main St, where they had THREE people look at it and all of them agreed nothing was wrong with the serpentine belt or transmission. I needed a new headlight, but that was it, and it was much much cheaper. This place is a scam

Sean and the front desk employees were awesome. I seen so many bad reviews on United mufflers shop AFTER I took my car (which worried me after they started working on it) to be worked on. I seen comments about them not fixing what they was suppose to, to expensive, Sean was rude or sean didn't know what he was talking about but I have to disagree with all of that. I just moved to VA from WV and went for inspection and was rejected for many things. I was wondering why he was taking tires off, checking the E-break and lifting the hood (they don't do that in WV) and he politely explained to me all of the VA state laws for inspection stickers. Sean could have potentially saved me and my family's life for there was many things wrong with my car that I didn't know that was very dangerous. He showed me everything that he seen was wrong with it. He didn't just claim there was a problem just so he could make some money like some of these reviews had stated. I don't see him as a "rip off" because he thought I needed both rear bearing to begin with but then called me at a later time to tell me I only needed one. If he was a rip off he would have replaced both and charged me for it. I dropped my car off on a Wednesday and was told it would be done Thursday (that's awesome for the amount of work it needed) but there wasn't enough time to get it done Thursday so I was told by front dest sean was only coming in Friday (it was good Friday and they are closed) just to finish mine but they didn't. I wished they would have called to let me know it wasn't going to be done Friday because that made us finding a way to get our Easter pictures and getting to church a little complicated. That's the only reason why they got a 4. If it wasn't for the no contact thing they would have absolutely gotten a 5! I'd recommend united muffler to you. I will return for any future needs.

I've had only satisfactory work performed here, in the past. The owner, had always been polite, professional, and gone above and beyond to provide me with the best quality service. But recently I think he's been tested, this time something or someone has failed him. After spending a considerable amount of money, on repairs, your staff conveyed to me needed to be taken care of in order to pass the Virginia State Inspection, my original wheel bearing problem wasn't fixed. The next day I left a message for you call me back, which you never did, instead your front end manager stated, that you told her, you drove the car and it drove nicely. I took the vehicle to Shelor Motor Mile, in Pulaski, and the wheel bearing problem was diagnosed in 15 minutes. Sean, I am sure the previous work was performed properly. But you never got back to me after I called, and came by to resolve the issue. You have some serious things going on I'm sure, and this doesn't seem like you, but get it together brother.

I would not send my worst enemy to united muffler in Radford VA. I sent my car in to fix the fourth gear. Steve told me they would order the part and call me when it came in. I was told I could still drive my car just not on the interstate so I wouldn't have to leave it in the shop while they were waiting on the part. Flash forward six weeks, I finally had to call them to ask about the part. I took the car back in. Flash forward ten day and my car was still there, still hadn't been worked on and the part still hadn't come in because they never even ordered it the first time!!! I expressed my anger to the owner Sean and was told that hes had to fire people recently and that Steve keeps dropping the ball. He just kept making excuses. He wouldn't take any responsibility for the situation and instead threw his employees under the bus. I finally got my car back. It isn't even fixed!!!!!! The fourth gear is still messed up. They basically charged me $511 to store my car for 10 days. Never again!!!!!! M.Q

Sean charged me $144 for an oil change after quoting $69.95. When I disputed the charges, I was told my car had lots of plastic pieces that needed taken off. I feel taken advantage of. I had read bad reviews about your business and decided to give you a chance.Sean - I am giving you the opportunity to repair this and refund me $75. I hope you remedy this miscommunication.

Sean ripped me off. I spent $1200 and he couldn't get my car back in timing. I spent another 600 to get it home and a mechanic fixed it in 15 minutes. He left a ball pin hammer in the engine bay and screws loose that were touching the serpentine belt.

Great mechanic. I had an air leak that a garage in blacksburg could not seem to find. He found it in 30 seconds and took care of the problem. Very nice guy and kept me in the loop during the entire repair process. I wish I could afford to use him for all of my mechanical needs as he seems to really know cars.(mine is a German import). Again many thanks to him.

Please, please take all of the negative reviews seriously. This place will rip you off big time. My past experience was paying $120 for replacing a radiator cap. and my most recent experience was being ask to pay $80 for replacing a drive belt (belt cost $10 and requires loosing 2 bolts to replace) for the power steering pump before my vehicle would pass inspection. After checking the Virginia state vehicle inspection requirements I find that power steering belts are not even a part of the inspection requirements. DO NOT be fooled by the religious material being displayed in their waiting room. Run, don't walk, as quickly as possible from this place. If you really like to be ripped off then feel free to continue to patronize this place.

I worked at this repair facility right before leaving the industry. I stopped turning wrenches for various reasons but the main factor was the dishonesty that seemed to be business as usual. This is the ONLY shop I ever worked at that defied the status quo and actually made me reconsider my decision to move on. The owner is an extremely honest man and would loose money on a job to make sure his customer was treated fairly. He is able to do this because he treats his technicians fairly as well. Drivability diagnosis can be very difficult for even the most skilled technician, they are never rushed to the point where they are putting unfinished or sub-par work out the door. I tell people that the one lesson I learned during my years in the auto repair industry is: If you find an honest mechanic, do everything you can to keep him! If you live within driving distance of this shop, it comes highly recommended by a grease monkey who has seen the best of the best and the absolute worst of the worst.

Took a company van in to be serviced and have the brakes replaced. As I leaving the shop it was making some terrible sound so I took it back. Turns out they put the brakes on backwards. He tells me it will take about 30min to fix so after texting my boss I decide to wait for it to be finished. It ends up taking them almost an hour and half to swap them over. During which time my boss called and asked for some compensation since A: they put the brakes on backwards and B: they were tying up an employee for over an hour and a half. The manager flatly refused to give my boss any kind of discount and then tried to charge us 4% for paying by credit card. After it was done the manager walked up to me and said "she's really pissed and it's all because you didn't go back to work" I responded "well you told me it was going to take 30min" he then throws his hand up in "stop talking" gesture and then walks away. He was incredibly rude and unapologetic the entire time, even acting as if it was my fault that I had brought it back.

Will never take a vehicle there again. Charged for things that had nothing to do with state inspection. If you want to be ripped off this is the perfect place to go. Don't get fooled by the religious talk or by the bibles in the lobby.

They rip you off, I took my car to get it realigned and when I got it back it was still out of alignment and I got charged 90 dollars. Well, I took my car to another garage and they found out that united muffler was making up the alignment diagnostics and the other garage said that the alignment was not even worked on. They lie to customers and rob them. Please, never go there.

I went to get 3 inch true duals put on my truck man at front desk gives me a quote for 250.00 for 3 inch pipe and then Sean puts on 2 1/2 inch pipe on and I kindly tell him that it s not right I wanted 3 inch pipe as stated to the man at the front desk he said he would fix it but would half to pay 200.00 more to have it put on instead of owning up to the mistake of his employee like a good garage should instead he was going to make me pay 200.00 more and then he would fix it would not send my worst enemy there and would not recommend to anyone.

Area renowned ripoff that often goes after other local businesses. Known for not paying their own bills. Would give a zero if possible.

This place is under new management. Encouraging people to go and see the new owner. He needs good word of mouth to help due to the reputation of the last owner.

They always find way more than what you went to get fixed, and costs way more than they estimate...
