We decided to stay here after we lost power at our house. We had two different rooms, as we are a family of 5. Both rooms were very nice. Everything was clean; small rooms but very comfortable and cost efficient. My only issues is the with some lights in the room. There are automated lights under the beds, so if you got up in the middle of the night, you weren t stumbling around or having to use a larger light and potential waking your S/O or kids. But even the slight movement and they would turn on. I ended up having to cover them with pillows. Additionally, there was a light that would flash every 30 seconds or so, I believe it was part of the fire detector, not really sure, but there was no covering that. Other than that, it was a very pleasant stay. The staff that checked us in was very kind and efficient. I loved the personal touch of the art work from Radford students throughout the hotel. Truly a beautiful place to stay.Safety: Elevator access to room floors requires a room card.

This was my first stay at The Highlander. We have a student at RU, so the location cannot be beat. The hotel is about a year old, so new and very clean common spaces. Very friendly and personable check-in on Sunday, March 17 with Duncan. The first room was not clean with dirty bed linens, so I was promptly transferred to another room that was much better. Shortly before 5AM today (3/18), there was some sort of disturbance on my floor near my room. I called the front desk to report the noise once it had been going on for over 30 minutes and it was handled very quickly. Overall, a good stay. Comfortable bed and nice bathroom. Rooms have a very large smart TV and lots of storage space. Free parking.Walkability: Directly across from RU campus and a quick walk to dining and Main St.Noteworthy details: Super friendly staffNew hotel, clean common areas

We were very happy as RU alumni to come back and experience this wonderful hotel. Great location and amazing view of the campus from the rooftop restaurant. We loved the wall Art and decor of the hotel and rooms. Most unfortunately however by 10:30am there was absolutely no hot water even after being told to run it for 20 minutes. When my husband called the front desk the staff member said that some days are like that and there was nothing she could do. When I mentioned it again at checkout I was told it happens and it s the weekend so there was nothing that could be done. For me not having the staff member express any concern or any interest at all for the inconvenience it caused us left us feeling disappointed after an otherwise wonderful stay.

Hello, when we visited Radford last year with my son, it was building. It was the first time we stayed there. Very nice hotel. Room cleaned spacious , bed comfortable and sheets fresh and clean. Bathroom big and cleaned. Front desk people very polite and helpful.I ll recommend the hotel to anyone I know. Thank you!Safety: I like that even you can enter from the front the elevator is not working with out your room key!

I had not planned on doing a review on this hotel, but something happened before we left that I had to warn others about. Hotel was nice, but rooms not as clean as many reviews say they are. Had to clean glass rings from top of desk after we checked in.The problem started when we tried to take our old dog outside and had a hard time finding any piece of grass that was not loaded with dog poop. Both new piles and one s weeks old were all over. Had to walk to the back of the parking lot to find something half way clean for my dog to walk on. A bigger issue at this hotel would be the ignorance of the general manager. When we were headed back across the parking lot with our old dog, we spotted a loose Husky running in the parking lot between us and the hotel. Our dog is very old and very fragile so my wife hid behind the first vehicle she could get behind while I screamed to the only person who was outside at the time, is that your dog ? That is when the dog naturally started running toward us. In trying to block the Husky from getting to my dog, I moved forward, put my arms out and stomped on the ground. In the process screaming at the man out there who was the general manager of the hotel, to call the dog and get it on a leash. Then the GM got closer and began calling ME an a--hole because I was upset and wanted him to collect the dog. He also told me I should leave. At no time thru all this did the GM ever try to call the dog, catch the dog, or leash the dog, stating the dog was trained. The dog was still running loose by the time we were able to get our dog past it and to the hotel door.At 14 our dog is very fragile and one bump from another dog could hurt her. To say nothing of the fact that what if MY dog was dog aggressive and the GM could have cared less about his dog running loose and up to anyone. When checking in to this hotel we signed a lengthy agreement for the dog and keeping the dog leashed was on that agreement. I believe the city of Radford also has a leash law. So why then would the hotel GM not obey the same rules. Be aware if you have pets at this hotel take cover, and if you do or do not have pets, stay off the grass, you will for sure get something on your shoes. GM was an idiot and clearly in the wrong. He will get some dog or person hurt one day. Would never stay here again.

Surprisingly quiet hotel rooms. Comfy bed. Black out curtains REALLY work. Luxury items. Bathroom was well done. I'm a coffee snob... the baristas made excellent espresso. The Quartato was precisely measured. The hotel had a perfume/air freshener which was surprisingly pleasant. I deal with environmental sensitivities, I was not bothered by the smells or soaps.Downside: the mini fridge when cooling/running was very loud. The fire system had a bright flashing light, looked like lightning as I was trying to sleep.Walkability: Lots of good restaurants and cute shops in the area. Love the old architecture of the town. Feels safe.

We stayed at The Highlander for the first time last night. We're here in the off-season (Radford University is closed for Thanksgiving), so the price we paid is probably less than usual, but for the cost and compared to other local options it is an excellent hotel. The service was good and the hotel itself is well designed and well kept. The common areas are decorated with art from the Radford University art collection; when we were there the lobby had a Picasso and Warhol among other very cool works. Not something to base your whole lodging decision on, but evidence of the effort they put into upkeep and presentation.

I actually used this hotel as a stopover on a roadtrip, and I m so glad I did. Staying the week before Christmas, it was definitely quiet and deep into off-season, but the spaces are impeccable, gorgeous, and luxurious. The restaurant is closed during winter months, but there are plenty of good delivery options in the area. The bed was super comfy, I m obsessed with the motion sensor lights under the bed that light your way if you get up in the middle of the night. This hotel is perfect for a night or two- but note, there isn t a mini fridge or microwave in the room so it may be difficult to stay for longer than that. But I DEFINITELY recommend considering this hotel instead of the Blacksburg area if you d like a more luxurious/boutique stopover.

Beautiful hotel. Rooms are beautiful. Small but very quaint. Located directly across the street from Radford University's dorms ot appears. Plenty of parking. Very quiet and comfortable. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 star is because of food availability within the hotel. 7:30 am food sold completely out. Opens at 6:30am. The hotel was newly built and opened in April of 2023. I would say if the food options and availability there were sufficient, I would give it 5 stars.

The Highlander did a phenomenal job of taking care of me on Veterans Day weekend. Management is on top of things here and the staff was attentive. The breakfast was delicious! The rooftop restaurant and bar was a really nice addition to the hotel.10/10 will visit again!Rooms: The room was very comfortable. The bathroom was spacious. I specifically utilized the desk area under the TV. It was essential!

I cannot speak to the rooms or location as we did not make it to our destination unfortunately. We were driving from PA to VA and continued getting notifications of coastal flooding. The hail and rain was so bad it took paint off our car. We had to stop before we could continue our trip to this hotel. Despite the cancellation policy, I was texting with the staff explaining our situation. Management was able to waive the policy and fees despite it being outside of cancellation window and let us out of our stay free of charge for our safety. Most hotels would not show this kindness. I will stay here next time I am in the area and will recommend this hotel to anyone coming through the area just based on this experience. They were kind, courteous, and considered our safety!

Stayed here for the first time recently and the hotel was very nice but pricey. The location is great but not sure it s worth the price. The restaurant and roof top bar closed at 9:30 pm on Thursday and 10:00 pm on Friday this is ridiculous and needs to be changed. The bar service was not great and the drinks were expensive for Radford standards. Very limited food menu. Finally, the coffee shop on the first floor needs some attention as it took nearly 15 plus minutes to get my espresso!

We traveled in from NJ to watch our nephew play at Vtech. This location was about 25 minutes from campus. Savannah helped us at check in and went above and beyond to welcome us. She was courteous and very helpful with questions. Upon checkout, she maintained the same professionalism. Heidi and Jordan were also great at checkout- helping us with complimentary late checkout which was greatly appreciated with our travels. Will definitely stay again!Rooms: Very clean and spacious

It s a new Hotel our room still had the new paint smell! It s ver convenient my brother in laws dorm was right across the street! My only complaint would be the walls are very thin! We heard someone alarm go off one morning. We could also hear I m assuming the folks next t around us everytime they opened or closed something. Little annoying at night and early morning. The pillows were also not the best I will bring my own next time. Very very soft you sink right into it. Bed however was very nice!Staff was A+, Clean A+Rooms: Was a nice size for two has two chairs which was also nice. Tv was nice offered Netflix for you to log into, showtime was free and direct tv was a little disappointed couldn t chrome share but very small thing. Loved all the lighting and charger ports! Coffee machine could ve had more creamer and sugar available only came with one also could only find water down stairs at front counter vs near the ice machine . But again very small thing.Walkability: This is why you stay here!! It s rightAcross from the campus. My brother in laws dorm was directly across the street. Loved location first day we walked everywhere. Town is a small quiet one not much happening especially after 9.Food & drinks: Rooftop was lovely views food was 8/10 but pricey. Smash burger small but good, pork chop could pass a little dry, fried cauliflower get it!!Red provision pastries were delicious we went every time we walked in or out. Coffee was just okay.

I can Echo the majority of these reviews. This hotel is Exceptional. Super Clean, best possible location, super friendly staff, upscale amenities. And the price was extremely reasonable. Every other hotel in Radford should be concerned for their business. I will most definitely return!Rooms: Large and equipped with every modern day convenience you could want.Walkability: Right off campus. Restaurants and shops well within walking distance.

This hotel is simply lovely. Attention to detail is quite nice including some really great local art and some accoutrements that you don t get at your standard brand-name hotel. I loved the rooftop bar, the staff was lovely. And the location was perfect if you re visiting Radford. I can t say enough good things about this hotel!

The staff at the Highlander is exceptional! We have stayed there several times and it has become our favorite hotel by far. On our last visit, my mother was with us, and she was unable to get in and out of the shower because it was a bathtub shower. They were completely full so they offered us the suite that had easier access for her. Truly one of the kindest gestures we have ever experienced from a hotel. They just go above and beyond there and on top of their hospitality, it s also truly one of the most beautiful hotels we have stayed in.

The room was large with outstanding views of the university and mountains. The staff were courteous and friendly. We will stay there on our next visit.Rooms: Our room was spacious and very clean. Felt like home away from home.Nearby activities: Radford University is directly across the street. There are an abundance of restaurants in the area as well as a roof top venue at the hotel.

Beautiful hotel and very friendly, professional staff. The rooms were nice and the bathrooms are huge. Definitely has the feel of a luxury hotel, lots of nice little features in the room like small motion sensor light if you get up during the night. The one feature I wasn t crazy about was the adjustable, removable shower head. Ours worked the first 2 days and then wouldn t stay where placed, kept sliding to the bottom. We did eat at the roof top restaurant, very good food, a little pricy for serving size but, beautiful views and very nice staff. It was a great option for a stormy night to not have to venture out to dinner. We definitely recommend and would stay again if in the area.

This is a fairly new, dog-friendly hotel located across the street from the Radford University campus. There was a holiday special rate for rooms when we were there, which was great, but the special rate helped make the pet fee seem high at $150. Staff at the front desk were very helpful and polite, especially when they had to come open the lobby doors during the day because the doors were, oddly, locked. There is a lobby cafe, but, like many hotels, prices are too high ($6.50 for a single- serve bottle of lemonade). While the rooms are nice, there are small, motion detecting lights in the beds near the floor that cannot be turned off. Not sure if they re a required safety measure. A few small places to eat and a 7 Eleven are within easy walking distance. We considered going up to the rooftop restaurant but decided not to partly due to the apparently limited menus and high costs. It does have its own parking lot.

The hotel is clean and nicely decorated with artwork from university students and staff. The room was clean and comfortable. The bathroom is large with a deep tub/shower.The staff were courteous. The toilet clogged, though, and we were handed a plugger to take care of it ourselves instead of a hotel maintenance handling it.Not sure the cost is worth what you get, even with the proximity to the university.Walkability: Across the street from the university.Noteworthy details: There is no complementary breakfast.

Charged us a pet deposit without telling us, told us repeatedly that it would be refunded, then after several weeks told us that it actually wouldn t be refunded because we didn t note the pet at check in. We had our pet with us, carried her right in front of the front desk at check in. They said nothing and I didn t think to say anything because I specifically booked a pet friendly hotel so I assumed if there were any additional policies I would be informed of them by front desk staff when they saw my pet.
