Some staff are helpful. Others its seems their primary job is to look at their phones and watch others work. I asked one staff member to verify I had the ball joint press assembled correctly. He ran off and brought me back the manual. Their practice of only loaning out 5 tools at a time really increases the amount of time you will spend if you're doing a big job. That's why I saw many people there with their own tools. Perhaps that's what they want everyone to do? The tools they do have are shop worn. I couldn't get a sockets to stay on the air gun at all. This could be a safety issue. They're efficient in getting people in and out of the facility quickly as it stays busy on Saturdays. It would be nice if they were open on Sundays too. Recommend getting there before they open to secure a spot otherwise you may be waiting a while before you can get in.

So convenient and cheap. Very upscale. They have everything you need to work on your car, and very knowledgeable staff to help. Love this place.

Outstanding. Simply Outstanding. If you're looking for a "real" Auto Skills center, consider making this one your "go to".The staff is amazing, and always ready to help/train you on whatever you need to learn. I owe a lot of successes to them. The facilities/tool availability are excellent, and well above expectations.I believe - and could be wrong - that this the last "traditional" Auto Skills center in the DMV. I.e., one with a full-time knowledgeable staff, and all the tools/lifts you need to get the job done. I'm really hoping this one stays open.

Very clean auto center. They are there to help you if you have any questions, and per hour its 8$ and 60$ to hold overnight. They have disposal for oil and other fluids that would come from your car. Overall, it was the best one I've been to on a military installation.

Amazing staff and facility. If you are not using this place to do maintenance on your car then you are missing out. Bring your ID and registration to the check-in desk and they will give you a bay. I recommend checking if they have the tools you need before starting your job.Services: Tires, Auto A/C recharge, Auto engine diagnostic, Auto tire replacement, Auto maintenanceServices: Tires, Auto A/C recharge, Auto engine diagnostic, Auto tire replacement, Auto maintenance

They were great, very helpfulUpdate: I have worked with these guys now for over 6 years and this is by far one of the best auto skill center I have ever experienced in the Marine Corps. They have a fantastic team of knowledgeable experts who are very friendly and always willing to help. This is a very valuable resource to the installation and to anybody who is able to use it. I highly recommend you check it out

People are friendly to the max. I hadn't been there in 17 yrs. I saw a very familiar face. " Tony." The working environment was so chill/cool. There are tools, tools, and more tools.

Outstanding! Very clean. Fully equipped to do nearly any repair on non electric vehicles. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. One of the last remaining facilities that the military offers for mil personnel (at a reasonable fee) to engage in diy work, resulting in a great saving and an environment for self-sufficient skills development - a benefit sorely needed in this day and age.

The DoD needs to use this location as the minimum and expand on it as a model for facilities throughout the military, instead of closing them down in a display of irresponsible, poor decisions (Andrews, Belvoir, Myers).

I hate to say it but MCCS and MCB Quantico (and other branches of service) is killing auto skills centers. Why is there a lack of patronage? Employees are choosy when it comes to staff performed jobs, this tells me there may be a few under-qualified individuals working there and some long-time employees that need to be reminded of what their actual purpose is. The fact that so many locations have shut down and MCCS/MWR has sold out to commercial business tells us that MWR has absolutely no idea how to boost patronage...first things first, MWR needs to address overbearing policy. When an order signed in 2014, clearly written decades prior, has absolutely neutered this convenience to active/retired military members, gentlemen, you're screwing us. Semper sucks.

The guy checking people in was such a jerk I packed up and went to harbor freight and bought a compressor, air gun, all attachments, a jack and stands just so I don't support this place! What a piece of work, the MWR closes places all the time and I wonder why, I received my answer today. Use this place if you like someone talking to you like their better than you because they have automotive knowledge, I remember when the hobby shop personnel enjoyed helping people and teaching, not making them feel less than for not knowing everything.

I recently visited the MCCS Auto Hobby Skills Center to replace the rotors and brake pads on my vehicle. The Skills Center staff was very helpful, kind, polite, respectful, and quite knowledgeable. There are plenty of qualified professionals to assist you as needed and point you in the right direction, allowing you to do all the work yourself. The MCCS Auto Hobby Skills Center is the place I highly recommend for everyone to perform any and all vehicle maintenance ! ! !

I haven't been here since 2005. It's not even in the same building anymore! It is very well kept, have all the tools I needed and everything seemed to have been in working order while I was there. They don't have a paint booth anymore though. The new building they built and moved into was not provisioned with one. Kinda disappointed any that. Everything else is great though.

This place is wonderful. Large, clean, modern facility, helpful staff who will provide advice when you are in the middle of a repair job that was probably just beyond your ability. My only comment is they don't always have the specialty tools you might need. My recommendation is if you need a manufacturer or model specific tool call before you go. However, that is not a critique, no way they could collect all the specialty tools needed across all the brands and models of vehicles...just a caution.

I had a great experience and the staff was helpful. I carried majority of the tools I needed because they had the rest. If you break a tool, it is not an issue. They are under a lifetime warranty (MatCo) so use them as you need. The place was clean and had a spacious working space. It's always great to take a break from Jack stands and using a lift.

Brake pedal pulsation while braking front rotors disc, I Replaced front pads and rotors approximately year ago. I Just want to resurface them, I was told my 13 rotors was to big for their brake lathe, standard SUV, recommend MCX to upgrade brake lathe.

As always, this place is great to be able to work on your own cars. Staff are always professional and helpful, place is clean and lifts are convenient. Best part is the rental fees are very affordable. Hands down one of the best benefits for military, dependents and retirees. Hope they keep these shops available for years to come!

With other area military auto hobby shops closing, this top notch facility is a welcomed and worthwhile place to come and save big on DIY jobs! I paid $30 for a lift bay and all the power tools to replace my brake rotors, pads, and rotate my tires. Great customer service and advise from knowledgeable mechanics.

Great staff, reasonable prices, good tool room, and a relatively good number of lifts and bays. They also provide specialized car care services like wheel alignments, AC evacuation and charging, tire mounting and balancing. This is the best Auto Hobby shop I've seen I'm my 30+ year military career.

Very good customer service, and extremely helpful. My vehicle failed the VA.safety inspection. I asked them how long it would take to complete the repairs .They said 3 hours and it was ready in 3 hours. Great people. Very fair Prices.

By far the nicest base auto hobby shop I've seen. Brand new facility with lots of space, numerous lifts, and every tool you can think of. If you can put up with their smugness, the technicians are actually very helpful. Considering how easy and insanely cheap this place is, it's crazy not to use this for most of your car repairs.

They have everything that you need to maintain or repair your car. They staff is really helpful and very knowledgeable. I would rate this location 1 notch above Belvoir because they put the lift arms under your car for you automatically to avoid damage. Belvoir will help you if you ask but I have seen a few people mess their cars up with the lift on their own at Belvoir. They can also get parts for a very good price. I was able to get brake pads and rotors for the front and rear at a lower price than I could buy rotors for at the car parts store.

Best place to go to work on your car as a military member. The whole staff is knowledgeable and helpful. I will miss this shop when I leave the area.
