So my transmission went out and was told to call this guy because they were the best. Well if I was yal don't take anything you have to then. I went without my truck for pretty much 3 months and my transmission is worse then before it went out. My rear seal still leaks and was supposed to be fixed and it dont shift right and it grinds gear when I put it in reverse. Everytime I hit the gas at a stop light it feels like it clicks into gear to go when it should do that. Shifts hard. Yeah this shop ain't worth the time or money you'll spend. I m talking to a lawyer now because the money I spent I shouldn't have not one dam issue.

Ok I ve never been to a transmission shop that diagnose the transmission for free, and he actually showed us a transmission that was took apart and explained the issue we were having with ours it was amazing never had that happen, honest and reasonably priced awesome, because I ve checked around to quite a few places, so I wrote all that to let people know that it s the place to go!

I give 5 star to The guys at American transmission took my car in they were right on it tells me the details on it and fixed it right away glad I went to them always will be my go to repair shop no hidden extra fees or work thank you guys

These guys are very knowledgeable and professional. They explained what happened and what they were going to do to fix it. They also checked a couple of other things for me and again explained what was going on. The price was great and they even have a 10 day check where you bring your vehicle back and they check it, then your warranty starts. I took my Chevy Equinox in for a transmission repair. It was supposed to be a straight forward repair however, it wasn't. As they were making repairs there were other issues that popped up. Sure as the supplier sending damaged parts and the turn around time was crazy. They got the job done even in the mist of all the crazy things that just kept popping up. This place is OUTSTANDING. I was referred to them by a garage in Suffolk that suspected I had a transmission fluid leak. I have a 2007 Honda Accord with 225,000 miles on it. American Transmission Centers on Va Beach Blvd in NORFOLK offers a full 21-point inspection which they did for me at no cost and let me know I did not have a transmission fluid problem but did have an improperly sealed oil pan (from another garage in Suffolk where I had the oil last changed) and the leak was from the oil. American Transmission Center could have "taken me to the cleaners" because I know NOTHING about what's under the hood of a car, but they did not and I commend them for their professional knowledge and honesty. I was very afraid I would leave with a huge bill for a transmission problem. Although their name says "American Transmission Service," they are actually a full car maintenance shop. After my experience, I recommend them without reservation and heartily to anyone who wants an honest evaluation of what is wrong with a car and how it can be repaired in the most cost-efficient way. Honest tradesmen are not always easy to find - these guys here are among the best! Be sure you go to this one in Norfolk as I think there are several of these with the same name in our area, and I can't vouch for any of the others. But these guys really know cars and what they're doing! I think the few negative reviews on here must have gone to a different American Transmission Center as there are several.

Simply put, they lied to me about my transmission without even looking into the issues I asked them to. Even when they told me it was the transmission, I asked them about the other issues I wanted them to look at and was basically ignored as the transmission continued to be discussed. The worst part is that they even pretended to have talked to me on the phone prior to my diagnosis. Had I not called the number of the person that I originally had talked to I probably would have still had the same problem! When I called him thinking I was calling them since they pretended to have talked to me, he said "I've been waiting for you all day". I wouldn't have known that they lied about talking to me. That was the first red flag and the reason I didn't return. Then when I had a new diagnosis done, it wasn't my transmission AT ALL. I remember the guy from their building saying "Yea, that's why when you go above 40 mph it starts making all of that loud noise, etc." after the person who took it for a spin for diagnosis returned. I thinking to myself "My car doesn't do that...I drive all the way to Richmond from Portsmouth every week and it has never done that". He never even mentioned the REAL issues that I told him I had lol. It was just straight up "Yep, it's your transmission" and the worst part is I believed him and was on my way back with the money before "I called them to let them know" only to find out they weren't even who they pretended to be.***Not sure if this shows that I edited my comment from a 5 star to a 1 start but that's because I thought I was leaving a review under the person who ACTUALLY helped me after I left them. Then when I saw that it was under them instead, I came back to edit and leave a review about them.***

I get nervous taking my car to repair shops because I am a typical female who knows little about cars and can easily be taken advantage of but after going here, I have found my new go-to shop that I can trust! Rick is incredibly honest, accommodating and very dependable! I took my car to him with a vague complaint after having significant work done on the engine recently and he was able to discover the cause quickly and fix it. Will definitely be going back.

Rick and the guys here did an excellent job on my truck. 2007 f150 got a reman trans. I took it in on Wednesday and they looked at it right away. I picked it up the following Thursday ready to go.Fast work at a fair price. Couldn't ask for more.Service: TransmissionService: Transmission

I had a great experience dealing with Rick and his professional crew. They diagnosed my truck issues and gave me a verity of options for repair. In the end I went with Rick's recommendations and have not had a problem since. Thanks guys!

I am a widow and needed repair to my 2007 Suburban. I was reluctant to go to just any repair shop because I figured I would be ripped off. I was referred to American Transmission by a friend (I was unaware they did general automotive repair). I took my truck there to have it looked at and evaluated since the truck was almost 8 years old. They looked at the truck and evaluated all the things I was concerned with and found some things that I didn't know about. They helped me prioritize the things I needed done and I got them done when I could.Since the first time I had them look at my truck I unexpectedly had a motor mount brake and had to have it towed back to the shop. The tow company was awesome and it was repaired in a jiffy. I have had a great experience with reasonable cost!Thank You Rick!!

After .my last post I received a call from Rick and they asked me to bring my 1994 mark8 in for a second look at the rebuild. And they found many things incorrect. Rick has fixed my transmission. And has completed it on the day he promised. My apologies go out to American transmission and valued customers. I have learned kindness can get you where you need to be .thanks rick and crew. Love when I can meet the owner. He was really helpful and clearly knowledgeable in figuring out the best options for my car. Decided to hold off on the work for now but definitely would return in the future.

I took my car to American Transmission Centers on Virginia Beach Blvd and talked to the Manager Wendell. I have a 2006 Buick Rendezvous at two different shops and was not comfortable with what they told me. Wendell told me about they're free check out they were very professional with they're check out and he explained exactly what was going on with my car. They completed the repair and I was very pleased with the service this company provided. Andy..........

For all engine and transmission repair this is the fairest most honest shop I've been to in over fifty years. Wendell and Rick are the most polite and knowledgeable men in the feild they will precisely and accurately diagnose the ailments of ant vehicle and give a more than fair price for repairs. My Buick had me ready to give up on her but after bringing it by their shop they explained what was most critical down to what could wait and their diagnosis was spot on correct now I'm talking about after having been to Tread Quarters and NTB who only wanted to milk me . O say thank you Wendell you have a customer for life .

So I have to give kudos and brag about American transmission in Norfolk. Last night my truck wouldn't start, I swore it was the starter! Even tried to jump battery and nothing. So I had it towed to them, bought the starter only for Rick to call me and say it was just my battery. Any other shop would have installed the starter then said my battery was bad and charged me for both. Every time I have to go there which has been too many times in the last 3 years they are ALWAYS kind professional and honest!!! I will never go any where else! They do more than just transmissions so if you need mechanic work call rick tell him Amber sent ya!!!

Never have I received Racism and worse customer service from a business establishment that I payed. I brought my Vehicle here roughly two weeks ago because my transmission had went out of nowhere, and all seemed well they had diagnosed my vehicle and told me what had been wrong with it. Saying the Transmission had to be rebuilt. They gave me a price to rebuild it $2400 and the price was more than my vehicle is worth so I said no. I ll just get it towed back to my residence as is. I payed them the $650 for taking apart my transmission to figure out what was wrong with it. Then I got my vehicle towed back like I had wanted with all the parts of my transmission put into my trunk. This all happened on Friday. Monday afternoon comes I get multiple texts calls and voicemails saying they need a tool from my vehicle. You can see in the screenshots I posted on Yelp that things had gotten out of hand. 10 missed calls and a couple of texts from the guy J R saying he needed a tool from my vehicle. Then at 3 Am he called my phone twice. YES 3 AM.. the time normal people are asleep then he continues to text me saying yeah typical nigg Lowlife piece of s*** Got to be a pus*** hiding behind a phone I wish I was making this stuff up. When I saw these texts I simply replied with Great customer sevice. I'll be sure to leave a great review. Then I called the business to figure out what this was all about. Then they said no one from here called you That s when I had read the texts to him telling him the mans name and The man behind the phone was stumbling on his words so I simply hung up. Then a couple minutes later I get a call from one of the owners I m assuming it was apologizing saying he had no right to call me and they were going to talk to him. Great you talk to him then he shrugs it off and then slurs racial comments to your other customers when able to. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE. HIGHLY DONT RECOMMEND.

tricked me into selling my car for only $200 to them. I was pushed to the point that I just didn't understand what was going on. When I first called and told them why i had my car dropped off there, the man on the phone asked for either my social security number or my driver's license number (of course i did the latter). To keep it short, I don't know how they train people here to talk to young girls, but they got me. Did work on it without my explicit agreement (knowing i was strongly against it from the get go), and said that by giving my driver's license number I agreed to it (which was never told to me). don't bring your car here. they don't deserve good customers. I don't like to review places, but i don't want to see anyone else backed into a corner like they did me. please go somewhere else.

I was referred to American Transmission by Firestone on Military highway. I took my Honda Accord in for a free diagnostic testing. I spoke with Rick and told him what was going on with my car on Tuesday June 26, 2018. He called me back & stated that my Camshaft Sensor needed to be replaced & that i had too much oil in my engine. He said he could repair it & chsnge my oil for $844.94 Rip Off. The part cost me $115.45 today from Honda i purchased it myself & had it installed i guess he was going to charge me $729.49 for labor Not, he tried to Rob the wrong women. & since Firestone referred me i guess he had to give them a kickback. I sent my brother up there to pick up my car & he asked him how much he was trying to charge me & he changed it to $624.48 not knowing that my brother is retired mechanic. Rick is a Ripoff ladies be ware Do Not have any work done at American Transmission & he got smart with me on the phone when i question him about the price.

Very honest and great guys! Ford told me it was my transmission brought it here it was just a misfire in my engine a new coil pack and spark plugs later all set! Mechanic even drive me to auto parts store because I had just had coil packs replaced and part was still under warranty! I won't be going anywhere else ever!!!!!

Took suv to shop 4 consecutive times to repair air conditioned. Filled with freon, replaced fuse, installed fan and everything worked until I turned the car off. Needless to say $600 later no air and refuse to own up to not diagnosing the problem and they should return a portion of the money back to me.AWEFUL Experience. I gave one star because that was the least I could rate.

This places is a must go to for transmissions. Not only do they do great work, they go out of their way to makes sure you get a good product. I've never met another shop that will stand behind their work like this one will.

Warning warning warning stay away from this place they commit fraud.napa NAPA NAPA........ You didn't get a rebuild transmission you got a painted transmission and they took off your catalytic converter and unplugged it.that was your real problem.you paid for a transmission you got a painted transmission where I come from that's called fraud and you do jail time.there are others you no what I am talking about let's see box truck...... Had wrong gear lube in rear diff it needed possie tracktion additive they added the additive and clean off the rear end housing and painted it black and charged them for a rear diff.(Earls be aware Wendell is ripping you off)stay away from American transmission.
