This store is discriminatory. This location in particular is funny in my opinion. They will treat customers differently as they so choose. My husband went up there back to back days purchasing items he needed for our vehicle and during each purchase his phone number was collected. Also, during one (the purchase of issue) of the purchases, Tony, threw away the receipt so he didn t have a physical proof of purchase. My husband attempted days later to return the unneeded item and was given a run around by the gentleman in the store. All of which not only attempted to raise their voice, but essentially wanted to try and puff their chest out like they run things, putting their foot down. Stating he had NO proof of purchase that they could find and would not give him a refund. So in test of their remarks, I went up there myself to buy a little air freshener and asked about an air filter i purchased at another location but forgot it at home. I stated i lost my receipt but i gave them my phone number. The general manager stated (who was there when my husband was there) to me, that if I used my phone number they can locate a proof of purchase. So i find it funny how when I go, a woman, they are much more willing to help me and not get an attitude with me BUT when it comes to men, not only my husband but he witnessed other men getting spoken down too, they have a different attitude. Discrimination is illegal just saying. And you never know who will come back in the store to test what you just told another customer BAD BUSINESS PRACTICES. We will not ever be returning to this franchise all together.

This is not your traditional auto parts store where the person selling the parts actually knows a little something about cars. He actually offered me the computer to find my own parts after he couldn t find a radiator hose. Complete waste of time.

Excellent service! I am happy I stopped in here. I got way more things than I originally wanted, but I am glad I replaced all my wiper blades. Prices seem the same as other auto parts stores. Staff was friendly and helpful. I will be shopping at Advance Auto Parts from now on!

Honestly. I never right reviews. But I just needed to. I came to this place trying to get a new battery on the spot. Caleb helped me out right away. Honestly the best hospitality and very professional. Friendly people and they got in and got out. Fixed my battery fast and perfect. I thank them a lot.

Store is very clean, neat and well stocked. The employees greet you with a smile and are all very knowledgeable about the products. Management is awesome; I believe it starts at the top! I've used Advance Auto for a long time because it signifies excellent to me and this location confirms it!

The manager here is the best. She often comes out herself to help customers out. The prices here are very compared to other car stores but that price comes at a cost. Their selection is quite slim and sometimes not the best product. Overall, a good stop when your car needs maintenance.

In the past, this store has been extremely helpful....and friendly. The current staff, a young lady with pink/reddish hair in particular, should find another job quickly. She is the epitome of unwelcoming, and was even short with her co-worker assisting her. Everyone isn't built for customer service.....This would be one of tbose individuals.

Imagine my surprise when my car wouldn't start! Got a jump and headed to Advance. Associate was friendly and knowledgeable, sold me a new battery and installed it quickly. They offer a number of free services like changing the battery and wiper blades for you. They can scan the car computer for electrical issues and give you the error codes from Check engine lights.

Had a battery charged and alternator check. Both of the CSR's were nice, patient and knowledgeable. (whispers: and that black lady was really cute too...)I unfortunately did not catch a name as I was half asleep and forgot to ask.

Today I came in to the Advance Auto on Jefferson Ave in Newport News to buy a battery for my van. Norman, the customer service representative, was extremely helpful in finding the correct battery. I know nothing about cars so he was very patient and willing and happy to help me. He not only helped me with choosing a battery, he also helped me pick out oil for my van and car. I really love the customer service of all the employees. Norman and Steve have helped me many times with my car troubles and I really appreciate them. Great store. Great people. I would recommend this store to anyone.

Literally had me buying an alternator then starter eventhough I told them several times the "exact match" battery they installed was not right. After getting 2 other diagnosis... it was clear it WAS in fact the battery!!!. It's too bad the fight I had to go through to just return the battery that was only 38 days old and still under warranty to buy a more expensive battery? Well the argument ensued between managers and key carriers but guess what? I paid the money for the more expensive battery and they did the return on the 38 day old warrantied battery! I didn't replace the "low voltage" alternator nor did I buy the starter that I was told I needed. This car is running beautifully. Listen to customers. They drive their cars everyday they know their cars. It's scary that I knew it was the battery and I caught hell. Lastly, even if you are not happy doing a return, DO NOT THREATEN THE CUSTOMER THAT THEY WILL BE BACK BECAUSE THEY WILL BREAK DOWN? They were not only wrong but unprofessional. I will say they do have at least 2 people that used common sense but they're hands are tied due to management. How you going to tell me to remove my starter so you can bench test it when I just told you 2 companies just ran a diagnostic test and both well known companies said it was the battery? Listen!

You can get some great deals here when you sign up for what is like a loyalty program. It will send you coupons for good savings when spending a certain amount of money and those can make a big difference when buying parts, battery, or other items. I believe oil is excluded from most promotions. The store does monthly promotions where you receive discount and free oil filter when purchasing 5 gallons of oil (varieties change so check ad when ready to purchase) and this is very handy when doing oil change. The store advertises lending tools, testing and changing battery, changing windshield blades, etc. The reason for 3 star rating that would have always been 5 previously is due to an experience during my last store visit. A woman came in seeking help with concerns that her oil light just came on. She explained she has never had problem and gets oil changes at the dealership. The guy behind the counter shocked me. I have previously only seen people go out of their way to help. Not sure if he was just that lazy or had no regard for customer service but it is reason for 3 stars. Instead of going to the womans car to see the light she was referring to and also to check her oil level he told her it most likely meant she just needed an oil change (though she explained the light said low oil) and then had nerve to tell her she would need to check her oil level herself. When she said she had never had to do that or even buy oil for her car, he did look up her model and tell her what kind of oil it took, but did not get up and go get it for her or walk over with her but left her to fend for herself. I was disgusted. I bought my oil and left. Walking out I did my best to try to help her and shared what little info I had about the need to check oil, for a leak, and where she may get discount off synthetic oil change. I will think twice before returning at least to this location.

I had a battery under warranty when my car wouldn't start. I brought the battery to be tested here. As a female who grew up around cars, I was ecstatic to see almost all female employees! An employee tested the battery and brought the printout to the VERY nice manager to read. She tells me it's not the battery. My alternator is gone. I call my AWESOME mechanic, DAN'S AUTO, and long story short, buy the $350 alternator on the spot.Next morning, Dan's Auto does thier own testing and my alternator is Fine! I give him the print out from Advanced (I hadn't bothered to look at it previously because I don't know what the numbers mean) and he tells me the Manager read the printout wrong! Additionally, at the bottom of the printout, it clearly states "No issue with charging system"!!!Thankfully, my honest mechanic happens to work closely with Advanced on Warwick Blvd. He called his contact and explained what happened. I got my battery replaced under the warranty and returned the alternator w/out issue. So much for "girl power" in this situation. I was so disappointed and could have spent over $500 unnecessarily. DO NOT TRUST Advanced Auto on Jefferson.

So! I purchased a battery on Sunday from this location and was told by Tuesday by my dealership that I needed to take the battery back. So, I took it upon myself to already call corporate and call the location to give them the 411. Unluckily for me I ended up speaking to a GIRL by the name of ANGELA! She was very facetious, Condescending, and just straight rude. This girl hung up on me back-to-back because of the tone of my voice. Not because I cursed her out, not because I was yelling at her, not because I called her all types of names but because of the sound of my voice. And that sounds absolutely ridiculous. I ended up going to the store in person to resolve the issue and the Lord sent Angela's guardian angel Lori, the assistant manager. Lori went ahead and refunded my money and even educated me on somethings about my car. I just think it's funny that businesses are always taken aback to why they either go viral or people are protesting to not to do business anymore .... but its because of the ANGELA'S that you hire. HIRE MORE LORI'S! LORI DESERVES A RAISE. GET RID OF ANGELA AND GIVE LORI HER PAY ON TOP OF HERS. LIKE THATS HOW GOOD LORI IS!!!OH AND ANGELA IS A LIAR. WALKED IN THAT STORE FOR HER TO TELL WHOMEVER ON THE PHONE I WAS YELLING EVEN THOUGH WE MUTUALLY AGREED I WASN'T. And there is a saying that goes a "liar and a theif goes hand in hand "

Bad manager! Boss stays asleep in the back can hear snoring through the store working just sit down and be lazy! The store needs new management all together and new employees

Great customer service the general manager Spencer was very knowledgeable and fast to take care of all my needs and the other person on duty Lori was great also even though that store is not the closet to me I will make the trip to that store for all my needs

Wow! Great!! Unbelievable service!!Been coming to this location for over 3 yrs and the service has always been GREAT!! But today, was even better!! Was Going Christmas shopping w/ my 6 yr old daughter and went to get oil so stopped in Advanced..You know when you go to stores and it's like 20 workers and ain't none of them working or helping you..NOT HERE!!Manager DJ at store #5405 in Newport News, Virginia..Was amazing-THANK YOU!!She Really went the extra mile to help me while helping 10 others..Let me explain..just went to purchase oil..that lead into my Serpertine belt snapping..and my pulley cracked..And I'm not going to act like I know how to fix it..cuz I don't..but MRS DJ stated it's an easy fix. She called her friend & She ordered all the parts and delivered to her location in less than 20 mins....Fixed it & left within 40mins. Can't get that service NO WHERE In 2018...and in these times..don't see PEOPLE going the extra mile to often. Advanced Auto should be proud to have a manager like you DJ..GOD BLESS YOU MRS DJSalute!!

Very helpful people. Took the time to test my battery, alternator and starter. By the way, it is a complimentary service. Definitely will go back to purchase when the need arise.

This is a great store, mainly due to the manager and employees that work there.I prefer this store, I can talk with very friendly and knowledgeable people.Usually I order online and pick up on store to save money (online codes).

Came in asked for a battery check rep said got 1 person in front you watch 4 ppl go and left. Left no service render count it as a sale lost. I knew I had a bad battery just wanted 2x check

Unlike a lot of Auto Parts places, the clerk in this Advance Auto parts store was courteous, efficient, and fast for a return that I needed to make. I appreciated that kind of service.

I had to get the alternator and battery checked on my motorcycle and while the staff was not familiar with it and whether it would work with the motorcycle they were very kind and they helped to the best of their ability.

Incompetent staff. They don't seem to have an idea on their own store policies. Customer service was just horrible and their best answer was "to call corporate because i never heard of that" and not even attempt to find an answer.
