A-1 is the Best! I drove from NY to Virginia specially to A-1 transmissions. Jeep upgrade; added body armor and lift kits and drive shaft. Excellent job and definitely A-1 service.

Don t deserve any stars, had to click one to post. Worse service ever. My car had a bad jerk and leaking power steering fluid. Fixed the power steering issue. Had to take my car back to fix the jerking never fixed the issue. Someone took my battery out of my vehicle and they left my window down and had rain all over my vehicle. Tried to get in touch with the owner, phone wasn t in service anymore and went back the next day they didn t have any electricity. Finally spoke with girlfriend to get me another battery. Worse ever.

These guys really went above and beyond for me! I was stuck out of state in VA I'm from Illinois. They moved me into their rotation and got me back on the road after rebuilding my transmission. My vehicle I was driving was a nightmare, it kept breaking down and they got me back on the road and back to my 8 mo. pregnant fianc�. I was actually hauling a very heavy car up and down mountains plus I had to drive like 800 miles cross country. I stand by the work they did for me. If you live out of state you may have to pay extra for a warranty, but it's totally worth it! These guys truly are A1! I named the truck MF Jones because it screwed me over so much! We stopped at Advanced Auto and asked about the rattle in our engine and if they could pull a code. These guys were awesome and overheard and offered to look at it and found out the problem immediately. Another mechanic would have charged 100 just to pull it in. They were very nice and very reasonable too!

Got the heat in my Jeep Wrangler fixed. Brought the Jeep in on Friday, they found out what the problem was that was causing me to not get heat, then we couldn t get the part for it from their people because it was on back order. So the guys there went and found the part on google in which I was able to buy myself and avoid any additional parts fees. The part came in yesterday, and I took it in today to get it placed and the guys did a great job, did it in a timely manner right before the holidays, and they gave me a great price after diagnostics and labor. Highly recommend!

I m not sure where to start. I dropped my car off at the shop at 8am and no one was there even though they open at 8. I had made an appointment over 10 days in advanced to get a simple diagnosis as to why my car was having trouble shifting. I dropped my car off and then they didn t call me the whole day. The next day, I tried calling the shop 5 times before someone answered and the guy that answered had to ask me what I needed with my car even though I already explained it. They had done nothing. He said he would call before noon the next day. He didn t. The next day, I called over 6 times before someone answered. They gave me a very vague description as to what was wrong and that they were ordering parts even though all I was looking for was a diagnostic. They also wouldn t give me a price to the fix. After this many red flags, I decided to just go and pick my car up as I was uncomfortable with how they were doing business. I went to the shop and everything about it raised so many flags. The printer wasn t working so the guy at the desk asked if he could text me the code they pulled with the issue. The code didn t give me any helpful info and then they charged me 187.50$. The worst part is my car was making more noises then before I even took it in and the check engine lights and others are now not going off. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE.Service: Auto engine diagnostic

Disappointed in working with A-1. Can't reach them on the phone, not open as published and wanted prepayment on part of their work a day after being quoted. Also, they will only accept cash; prepayment and all. Would not recommend their service to others.

I have used this shop many times over the past decade. The first time was with my 05 Escalade when the front differential pinion bearing was whining. Other shops I checked with didn t know how to do a rebuild, and only wanted to replace with a new differential for a lot more money. Dennis rebuilt it and promptly took care of a couple of follow up issues on that job. Dennis also did valve body upgrades on my 99 Ranger and most recently, they changed out the rear differential on my buddy s 2010 xterra and did a top notch job. They are very busy, but that is because of the work they do. Some people think a transmission or rear end can be rebuilt in a day, but to truly do a quality job they need to do a tear down first and find out the extent of what needs to be fixed. This is much better than some other shops in town that charge for a rebuild but swap in a used transmission. We had a very special birthday celebration for my son planned this weekend. My car had some problems on Thursday, and Dennis had my car fixed by Friday evening, so we were able to continue on with our plans. No need to even look for anyone else to work on your vehicle, Dennis and his crew do quality work and are so nice to work with. They have fixed my transmission, water pump and also do brake work. My family depends on them for all our vehicle needs. Thank you Dennis.

This was the worst experience of my life. Truck was brought in for warranty repair on the transmission. They keep my truck for 8 1/2 weeks and still did not fix problem. Dishonest, deceived, would not answer phone or return calls. I have sent 3 different email or text with no response to rectify the situation and still no response. I will obtain legal representation and get this resolve. Places of business like this need to be shut down and quit misrepresenting yourselves to be honest business people. Do not write some fluff comment trying to convey yourself to be honest because you are not and how concerned you are over customer satisfaction. Took a couple of extra days to fix my transmission but so worth the wait. End product was a completely rebuilt transmission that was better than when it came off the lot new. They rescued us when we were broken down on the side of the road and took care of us every step of the way. The price was unbeatable!!! Thank you. We will definitely send business your way A-1.

I was really pleased with the job, Dennis, Lenny and Mike provided me for my daughter's Dodge Neon. Even though it took a while to figure out the problem, they went above and beyond what one would expect. In the end they were very fair on price and got the job done. What a great bunch of men to run a business. My family and I will continue to take our vehicles to them for repair.Thank you guys for ALL that you did. Absolutely amazing shop.. Have lived in lynchburg for 22 years and have struggled to find a shop thats reliable and trustworthy, but this one is it! They have been taking care of my personal and business vehicles for over a year now and I have never had an issue they didn t immediately fix. Dennis is very responsive and works with my busy schedule. He's even offered his car to me a few times to drive while mines being fixed! Cant say enough good things about this Local Business. Dennis at A-1 Transmissions is awesome. I brought my wife's car in for a transmission service and diagnostic and they did an awesome job. Rather than trying to overcharge me or sell me something I didn't need, he was honest and did an excellent job on the transmission service being done on her car. I am bringing my Jeep in as well for work and will continue to do so for all of our mechanical needs. Excellent service, honest and straight-forward, and they do awesome work.

I picked this place based on all the 5 star reviews, but I really regret it.Got a new head gasket put in my Honda Civic, along with a water pump and timing belt. The job only took them two days, which I thought was awesome, but in hindsight, should've been a huge red flag.Driving away from the shop, my car was making a terrible noise (like engine knock combined with a star slurping). I called them about it and they told me "not to worry about it". When the sound persisted, I brought it back.After a LOT of pressure from me and my car-guru friend, they did clean the rocker arms and sort of, kind of, attempt to solve the problem, but it didn't work. So I've been driving it for a few months with this horrible sound, waiting for the engine to implode, when all of a sudden...It's overheating again! What's that? All the same symptoms of the exact head gasket leak I had before? Interesting. Give them a call. "Oh it's not our fault. We did it right. There's no way we messed it up. And we don't do warranties on head gaskets."They seem helpful and nice, but what bothers me most is their refusal to take responsibility for anything - or even acknowledge something MIGHT be their fault.At this point I'm just getting rid of my car. Anyone want a '99 Civic with a blown head gasket and marbles in the engine?

So frist off let me just say for the love of god go somewhere else before you go here. Here is why back in July of this year I dropped off my 06 explorer to have some work done. When I got it back a week later I had a rattling tail pipe and an oil leak that had somehow gotten worse. So if you want more problems then you had before you dropped off your vehicle then by all means take it here.

A1 did a really good job, my situation was a little Unique, A1 jumped through ever hoop no problem. Great to deal with, super fast, Even gave me a part for free. Price was exactly what he said it was going to be. He warranties all of his work, and holds true to his word(Hard to find these days). Great group of guys at A1 thanks for making my install easy and affordable.Another thing I really appreciated was the time they took to answer all of my questions. I called a few times a day just to ask questions I was reading about, he took they time to explain everything.Hassle free transactionThanks Gentlemen, hope I dont have to, but definitely would recommend!!!!

I hope everyone will take a close look at this business. If I could give them a zero I would. I had my transmission rebuilt in February '16. My first mistake was having it towed to him. I told him I would be going out of state soon. Before he even started he said he needed money to buy parts to rebuild it. I advanced him several hundred dollars for parts. He called me a few days later to tell me he had another transmission he had to do so did I mind if he worked on that one first he said it would only take a few hours to fix mine. I agreed thinking it would be soon. Since it was not done by the time I was ready to travel (the following week) I had to leave it there. Three weeks later I had someone go pick it up for me. He swore he would leave receipt and warranty in seat. Which he didn't. Then he said he couldn't fax it cause his fax was broken. Then he said he would fax it to my job when I called again. Then he said he faxed it to my job and my hotel I was staying in. I never received it at any of those places and so I'm sure that he never did. Thinking his fax was just no good he swore he had nationwide warranty and he would stand by it. When I got my car 4th gear was shifting hard. He swore just drive it and get the kinks out. I knew better but because I didn't have time to deal with him and I'm taking him on his word. Fast forward to when I finally started to drive it I called him again. He immediately said I'm not responsible for electrical problems with it and you have to bring it back to VA for me to fix it. Strange how he knew there was a problem with the wiring harness and solenoids . I'm over 600 miles away so I asked about nationwide warranty. He had a lapse of memory when his website clearly said nationwide warranty. I took my car to the local transmission place instead of dealing with this jerk. They found that parts that should have been replaced during the rebuilding process were not. A1 Transmission is a joke. If your transmission is working when you get your car back you're blessed. My best advice is to avoid this place.

Absolutely the best transmission shop in lynchburg. Dennis and Co work hard, cheap, and fast. They are very knowledgeable and straightforward. They will tell you what needs to be fixed, and what does not need to be fixed. (which, to me, is one of the many signs of a good mechanic. Not trying to sell you on extra junk.) I recommend these guys to everyone.

I can t thank Dennis enough for helping my daughter and her friends when her car broke down in Lynchburg VA. It was towed to A1 on a Sun afternoon and the kids said he was very helpful and friendly to them. Not only did he take a look at their car on a Sunday afternoon, he also let them keep the car there and helped us arrange an appointment with the Nissan dealership the next day because the car was still under extended warranty and we would never have known this if he didn t tell us. He went above and beyond to help these college kids and we will always be forever grateful to him and A1 Transmission!!!

Had my 2006 gmc pickup towed to A-1 after a serious transmission fluid leak. They fixed the problem the next day since it was late when it was towed in. I also had a Hyundai with a check engine light on that was a emissions sensor leak that they were able to fix promptly. I'll definitely will continue to use them since I believe they are honest and want to do good work.Tom

Terrible. Took car in here because it was jumping during acceleration. Thought transmission. Dennis fixed a leaky seal, motor mount, and strut. $700 and almost 2 weeks later we get it back. Within 1 hour we realize the problem isn t fixed. Take it back - new plugs and wires plus labor done before I authorized it. $225 and - week later we get it back. STILL NOT FIXED!! Almost $1,000 spent. Why would you fix a damn strut before you fix the problem I brought it in for. You want to trust that a mechanic knows what he is doing when he says this needs to be done . No other profession could you get away with this. It s like going to a restaurant and ordering steak. The waiter brings you everything on the menu except the steak. You say this isn t what I came in for and he says have to charge you, food cost and cooks labor, but if you come back and pay us more $$ we could try to get you that steak this place is a racket

We called Dennis Cruz at A1. His tow truck was there in 15 minutes. He had the car on the rack within a few minutes, repaired the problem and we were back on the road in no time! These guys were professional and caring. This was on a Friday afternoon at 4:30 too in the middle of 29 North Bypass! Dennis Cruz, the owner, did the repair himself! Amazing customer service. I called this company because they were recommended by my mechanic. When i called them i let them know what we (myself and my mechanic) thought the issue was (the transmission) and asked them how much they would charge to look/diagnose it. They told me it would be no charge. I told them that was perfect. I told them i would call my roadside assistance and have it towed they then said well we can pick it up. I had been though so much with my vehicle in the past 2 days (yes it literally started acting up one day out the blue) that i assumed they meant they would drive it and not tow it since i did let them know that it is driveable. Anyway they ended up towing it. Two days later when I called in to check the status of my vehicle (which I understood they might not have been able to get to it the day they picked it up, (it was picked up in the morning), but I was told that they would get to it first thing the next day. The next day came and i called them at 12 and they still hadnt started looking at it. i called back at about 3 and was told it was the transmission. At that time I told them that i would pick it up that evening but it would be after they closed. He then told me that it would be $100! I then asked why and he said for the tow and diagnose, mind you while im debating this he is also talking to someone in the background and i hear him say "so dont charge her" but they still charged me. I was so worn out from having this spur of the moment issue that i just paid it and got reimbursed from my insurance company. Customer service was not bad but they did go back on their word as far as charging me (only reason I gave them 2 stars). ( I really felt like they only charged because im not having the work done there.)
