I recently had a fantastic experience with AAMCO! The service was top-notch from start to finish. The staff was knowledgeable, friendly, and efficient. My car was expertly repaired in a timely manner, and I was kept informed throughout the process. I highly recommend AAMCO for anyone in need of reliable automotive service. 5 stars all the way!

I called to to inquire about the price of doing a diagnostic check on my van once I found the pricing fair and reasonable I got it towed in on Friday and let them, Mr. Judson, know that my van had been sitting for a while because we have some major emergency medical situations going on in March and the battery had died so I hadn't started in a while.. the last time I drove it, it made a loud noise and wouldn't go into gear therefore I thought it would be my transmission. I got a call on Monday to tell me it was my axle arms and not my transmissions and will cost me $800 and I ask was that all that was wrong in a gentleman said I got lucky because it was not my transmission I came to pick the van up on Monday I paid and got my key he, Mr. Judson proceeded to tell me that my check engine light was on and I asked "what else is wrong I thought that was all" then he said it threw a couple of codes and I asked what did that mean and he told me that he didn't know but at least it's drivable, I left the parking lot and drove down Mercury Boulevard shortly my oil light came on and I thought I better turn and go get oil soon as I turn my vehicle locked I called a tow and took it back to the shop I called to let the gentleman, Mr Judson, know what happened..he said that's odd..I ask what could it be.. he suggested that he send it to a engine specialist down the street. The report was the engine was locked. The oil was low and bad. I never got a itemized report from AAMCO Unfortunately I'm out of 800.00. I am disabled and saved money..I didn't want to fix it if it wasn't worth it. I asked did they do oil changes there & he said yes..after this happened..I'm not a mechanic but I know now that the check engine light had never been on sense I owned the van almost 6yrs. The oil light has never been on. Driving even test driving causes problems if the oil is low and bad. I ask about getting some or all of my money back. This is a horrible ordeal. 800.00 is a lot for me to throw away & not able to get any type of refund so far. I believed total car care would give me all the answers and it didn't. Mr. Judson & the mechanic was pleasant however My experience was an expensive let down

Mechanics shops generally are hard to rate for me because usually I feel like you need multiple encounters with a business to really know if they provide good service or not. That being said my one experience with this place was positive. I had a lot of work done and got what I feel like is a good price. They encountered a problem changing out my transmission filter which they didn't charge me extra to correct. It's hard to find a place that does transmission servicing so I appreciate the extra work they put in. Will definitely be using them again in the future.

My 20 year old truck with manual transmission was making weird noises. Had an excellent experience with Phil and the staff at AAMCO in Hampton. If it was possible to give this place 0 stars I would. Took my car here in August of 2022 for a transmission repair. I picked it up a week & a half later & my car had gained a new awful noise. I took it back up there, they looked it over by listening & looking & said it wasn t their problem to take it to a different shop. They replaced one of my control arms & not both which is now costing me more money in the long run. Whatever technician worked on my car didn t mount my motor back up to one of my motor mount. I m now dumping more money into this places intentional mistake they could ve fixed instead of halfassing their job. My suggestion is don t take your car to aamco cause you re just walking yourself into a financial disaster that they won t fix!!Services: Transmission, Steering & suspension repair, Auto engine diagnostic

Just got home with my baby's newly rebuilt transmission and she drove beautifully the whole way from Mercury to Yorktown! Judsen and Chris were wonderful through the process and they came highly recommended by another in their industry. They explained the cost and expectations clearly and thoroughly. They take great pride in their team and work. They made me feel very comfortable about getting such a major job done. I won't be taking her anywhere else again. Thanks guys!

While vacationing in Williamsburg, my transmission began to go. I had no choice but to get it fixed before making the 200+ mile drive home.Another AAMCO was closer to me. I went there first and I was frustrated that the other AAMCO turned me away b/c they were too busy. But I'm glad they did b/c I found Judson, Chris and the AAMCO on W Mercury Blvd. They were very accommodating and I think did all they could to turn the job around as quickly as possible since I was from out of town. They told me they would call me by a certain time with updates, AND THEY DID. They gave me an estimate of when the work would be done, AND THEY MET IT.The truck made it home fine and I waited another month to write this review to ensure the rebuilt transmission would perform. About 1000 miles on it and no problems.In an otherwise unfortunate situation, I felt fortunate to find this shop.Thank you, Judson and Chris, especially for your hospitality and customer service. You minimized the worry and discomfort in what could have been a painful situaiton.Service: Transmission

Had my 15 year old Jeep Wrangler automatic transmission rebuilt here in late fall. Judson, the owner, is extremely nice, and really easy to work with. Anyways, the rebuild ended up a bit pricier than the original estimate once he dove in, but that is apparently because almost every piece had to be replaced. Amazing warranty came with it though. After about 2 months, I started getting a code related to the transmission (but was not dangerous to drive on). Judson did some troubleshooting work and the code was gone. Unfortunately, it came back a month later, and they replaced a fairly expensive piece which seems to be the source, all under warranty, of course.The above story may not sound like a recommendation, BUT, I would absolutely recommend work here. I did not expect a transmission rebuild to go smoothly. Its a crazy amount of pieces having to work perfectly together. What will keep me coming back, is that Judson has amazing customer service, and he immediately schedules a time to bring it in and get the problem fixed and me back on my way, without me having to even reach for my wallet because of his warranty.

I had the pleasure of speaking with Judson on the phone. The minute we started conversing, i felt that it was going to be a very refreshing interchange. They knew exactly what the problem was and the cost for the work blew my mind. Very reasonable! Customer service and care is extremely important in these critical times and i'm happy i decided to go with Aamco. Thank you again!!

While visiting Hampton, my car's shifter cable broke. Not knowing where to get it towed, I saw that this AAMCO was the nearest transmission specialist and had it sent there. I could not have been luckier. They were able to ID the problem and order the parts needed they even beat their initial estimate by sourcing parts from a less expensive supplier. On top of that, they were very courteous and understanding while working with an out-of-town customer. Someone even stayed past closing to hand me the keys when I was delayed in coming back to Hampton to pick up the car. I couldn't be happier with how everything turned out thanks to their hard work.

I needed a cable for my gearshift replaced: it cost me $376.00!! Wow! I really believe it was price gauging!! They should be Investigated!

My transmission needed a lot of work. Torque converter and multiple other components failed. They got me fixed up at a fair price. I also asked for a vehicle inspection for other parts that look bad. They did and were honest with me and didnt try to sell me a bunch of extra stuff. This will now be my new trusted mechanic.
