I started using Total Auto Service on the recommendation of one of my adult granddaughters, who had been using their service for a while. I started using them after other repair services were unsatisfactory and tried to rip me off. Over the past couple of years that I've used Total Auto Service, I've been very satisfied with their quality of service and prices.

This place is awesome! My son was driving his older car down I-64 when an oil light came on and he had no idea where to go. Chris said he would at least check it out for him , so he drove there. So very nice of them to inspect it, and topped off the oil for free! Very good people work there!!

A friend recommended this company to me. I called to make an appointment but they were booked. Staff were very friendly and offered to schedule a later date. I needed to have my car looked at right away so I took it back to Aamco Transmission. I didn t realize they do most car care. I m glad I did.

I love this mechanic shop. They are honest with diagnosing and always do a great job. I send everyone I know here all around great shop with great customer service, great mechanical service and great all around vibes. Best shop in Charlottesville

I trust Total Auto completely after 15 plus years of service; they ve never steered me wrong and always fixed my Lexus to perfection and they give you the straight story. They ve been so good over the years all of my family members come here as well. Chris,the manager, and Jay,the assistant manager, are stand-up guys, honest who knows their stuff (all the techs know their stuff as well). The shop is personable, courteous, are true professionals who go above and beyond in terms of customer service.Great place- highly recommend.

My wife's SUV broke down on US-29, so we had it towed to Total Auto Service. They've been my preferred mechanic for the past 3-years. They accurately diagnosed the problem (broken drive shaft - Ugh...) and got it replaced in relatively short order. They were straight forward, professional and careful not to over promise.In fact, they estimated the repair would be complete by Tuesday, but over-delivered and the vehicle was ready on Monday instead.Thanks!

Chris scheduled my car in to troubleshoot in a timely manner, at no charge. In today's world, what a rare occurrence. He's always taken care of our vehicles, been accomodating, and professional.

What a fantastic, friendly and accommodating auto service center.My daughter was home for one and a half days from college and we dropped her car off the night before. They didn't finish up the inspection until 230 in the afternoon and when Chris called he said the car needed 4 new rotors and some cracks on the exhaust need to be welded. My angst set it. It's 230 they close soon and she needs to leave to drive back to college by dinner time. I didn't want to put the pressure on her to get the work done and get it reinspected going into finals weekChris said it may be tight, but we can get it done and at 530 we were picking up the car.The price and their hourly rate were fair, the work high quality and the customer service and communication top notch.Many thanks to Chris and the team! We will be using them for all of our car's service from now on.

I have been going here to Total and the Chris/Jay team for 15 years now. They remember my name and do quality honest work for reasonable prices. Never felt like they were upselling me on something. I went once for my truck annual safety inspection and forgot I had a cracked/broken mirror. They priced a factory OEM mirror and a salvage yard mirror. The price for the salvage yard was half of the factory OEM and once installed it was as good as new. Took my car in back in march for squealing brakes. Apparently they never looked at my breaks like I requested because if they had they would have told me I needed new pads. I was told I just had a film on my pads that was no problem just a little noisy. If they hadn t lied to me it wouldn t have gotten to the point of metal on metal. I ve been going there for years and I will not be going back. Thanks for costing me even more money.

I went in February to have my Flex Pipe replaced. They didn't replace the gasket when they replaced the rest of the system or mention the gasket to me. I'm lucky my didn't catch on fire due to this. It was in really bad shapeService: Auto exhaust system repairService: Auto exhaust system repair

Do NOT take your car to do state inspections here. They price gauge and knocked off a piece of my exhaust to warrant a $500 repair. Taking my car somewhere else; I ll be happy to pay that $500 to somewhere that s not this crooked place. $20 for that inspection was already too generous from my endService: General repairs & maintenanceService: General repairs & maintenance

I truly cannot say enough good things about this business. I've been here several times over the past 5 years, from VA state inspections to repairs on my daughters car. I won't go anywhere else. These guys are the most friendly, up-front, honest and hard working people locally. I'm always comfortable taking my car here and trust every word. The prices are fair and they are so reliable. Chris And Jay were great to work with. The weather was terrible and they were one of the few repair shops that were open and they got me right in to make a quick fix. They were accommodating professional and very reasonable. I m happy I found a place I can trust to work on my cars.

Chris is a delightful man. These folks are so wonderful, hard working, honest, and just all around good people. The "check brake pads" light came on in my Range Rover, so I took it in. Greg looked it over and called me up and said that the brake pads were in good condition and didn't need to be replaced (sensor needed to be reset). He could have taken advantage of me but they never do; they will get all of my business and if you are smart you'll give them your business, too.Services: General repairs & maintenance, Engine repair, Brakes

Came here because of good reviews here on Google and am happy to confirm the reviewers are accurate to recommend this place. I walked in for a state inspection without an appointment, was told there would be 1.5 hour wait, had my car done and out the door in 2 hours, which is awesome. They were courteous, true to their promise of timely service, and I found them giving excellent service to all that came in, including answering their phones in a timely manner. I will definitely be back whenever my cars needs service. Thanks!!!

One again Chris and team did a stand up oil change. My husband Matt has been going to them for years. Never had a problem with their service, work or price. Believe me its nice to have a auto mechanic you can trust.

If you re looking for reasonable pricing, quality work, and good communication- look no further. We were really impressed and I highly recommend. Words just cannot express our gratitude to Chris & Greg at TOTAL AUTO GARAGE at Charlottesville VA !We were on a road trip heading home to NYC where our car stalled twice and was making a funny 'drowning noise' while heading towards Charlottesville. It was closing time near the Labor Day holiday weekend and despite of their SUPER BUSY schedules, Chris, the Manager SQUEEZED us into their BUSY schedules and Greg, THE SUPER MECHANIC immediately looked at our car and KNEW it was the water-pump!They ordered the parts...Greg FIXED IT and called us the next day at 5 pm and it was AS GOOD AS KNEW...PHEW!!!Upon arrival at the Garage, Grey showed us our broken-down water-pump and said we 'LUCKED-OUT' that we went to them in time.Or we would have been stuck on the highway and had to call for a tow-truck!!We can't THANK YOU enough to Chris & Greg for accommodating us is such short notice and we HIGHLY RECOMMEND TOTAL AUTO GARAGE for anyone who's considering having their vehicle inspected or repaired.Service: Engine repair

They are super nice and professional! I got my oil changed and an inspection done. They found some issues with my suspension and fixed that. When I got it back, I noticed some noise whenever I would break slowly. They had be bring it back the next day and they fixed it for no charge! Such great service and everyone was polite and helpful. Audi check my low tire pressure warning this morning and found a screw in my tire. They suggested I go down the street to Total Auto Service to have them patch my tire. The guys at Total Auto Service are amazing! They are kind and very good at what they do... and fast! I highly recommend. I will be using them for all my tire needs moving forward.

These guys are honest and dependable, never advising unneeded work, and always offering a fair price for the work they do. My father has been taking his cars there for regular work as long as I can remember, and I plan to do the same.The one issue is that these guys are pretty much always busy. If you just need an inspection, be there right when they open at 8 and they'll fit you into the day, or you can call them and make an appointment for something more, but expect it to be a few days, maybe even a week, before they can fit you in.

Signed up online for a state inspection but upon arriving they said they were booked up and it would be a few days. Said we should have called to set up. If that's the case then take it off as an option for online sign up. Said they have a list and call you when they can see your car. Who does that? Sounds like they really don't want to to do them. Guess they will be happy when Virginia removes the requirement.

Seriously some of the most honest / helpful in the business. The dealership across town tried to overcharge me and do unnecessary work. I had Chris take a look and tell me how to get repairs done much more cheaply / that some weren't even necessary.They'll even guide you to the best place to get certain repairs done even when it means they aren't the ones that repair your car. They're only concerned about getting your car repaired correctly and for a fair price.They're a bit busier now than they were when we first came to Charlottesville, but I can tell you it's because they do quality work and they care.

Wow. Fantastic experience all around. Very friendly people, they checked out my car two days earlier than they thought they'd be able to, and they ended up recommending a much simpler fix than I was expecting (and would have paid for). Big thanks to Jay, who took time to explain the situation to me, and gave me some good advice on what to watch out for. Can't recommend this place enough. Really, the best experience I've ever had with a mechanic shop.
