This place is definitely worth all the 5 star reviews!!! I called this morning about my blinkers not working. I dropped off my car, sat for a while, then asked if I should go back to work if it would take a while. They were able to fit me in quickly to check it out! Turns out it was my blinker fuse, they were able to fix it right then within 5 minutes. I was in and out of there in under an hour. Very grateful they were nice enough to fit me in like that! Awesome customer service and cheap prices! Will be coming again when I need it and would definitely recommend, 10/10 place!

If you own a Honda or a Veteran... There is no better place to take your car!! These folks are absolutely straight up!! They do fantastic work and I highly recommend them!! They have worked on my Hondas now for over a decade and they always stand by their work.

I cannot tell you how honest and trustworthy this business it. I took my car there after being quoted over 1600 dollars estimate from the dealer and they they gave my car an honest assessment of not needing any work for now. We won't take our cars anywhere else. This team is trustworthy and honest and never takes advantage of a car owner by performing work that isn't needed. A few times, we have thought we had major issues only to find out a cap or hose was all that was at fault. Whenever they have recommended expensive work to be done we are confident it's needed.

This is routinely the best shop I go to in the area. It's the only place that offers to explain and demonstrate exactly what is going on and they're very honest even when that means referring me somewhere else for a particular job. Communication and quality of work are unbeatable and pricing is always fair.

UVA daughter had broken jeep needed new starter (or alternator?)& had towed here. Wonderful caring service team. Not only did a full diagnostic but didn't charge a thing. Jeep started right up. Didn't know who to trust, or where to go. This place is Straight up!! & Honest & Trustworthy. God Bless this place!! (They give student college discounts, too). Truly Amazing!!

My car was towed to them when the acceleration stopped working. They did a free diagnostic test, and while they didn't have the necessary tools to fix the issue (only a kia dealer could fix it) they gave us great advice for future car services. They took a nightmare situation and made it much more bearable. Thank you!

Hands down the most honest, straightforward autoshop in town. David and Steve and (Elizabeth in the office) can be counted on to give you an honest assessment of your problem, and fix it for a very fair price, in a reasonable amount of time. I can't give them more than 5 stars, but there should be a 5 star plus category....they are in it.Services: Auto engine diagnostic, Engine repair

Had a great experience with Striaght Up. I needed new control arms on my Volkswagen and they did much cheaper than the dealership quoted (my mistake for going to VW in the first place). They were great and transparent about everything from start to finish. Great Team and wonderful service! My car broke down while I was in Charlottesville, from Michigan, to take care of my terminally ill Father. I read lots of reviews about repair shops and decided to use Straight Up Automotive Service - it was a great decision! The car was repaired the same day I took it in (for a very reasonable fee); however, due to complications with my Father I was unable to pick the car up for 2 weeks - the team at Straight Up graciously allowed me to leave the car at no extra charge for storage. I adamantly agree with all the others who recommend Straight Up - choose them for your auto service needs, you will be so glad you did!!!

Great experience overall, couldn't have asked for better. My wife and I called in a pinch, they were able to get us in on short notice. He was very honest and up-front, good communication regarding the car's problems and how critical/necessary each repair was. Getting your car repaired is never an enjoyable endeavor but this was the most efficient and painless experience I've ever had. Will definitely be using again, for all of our automotive needs. I've been a couple times now, and don't plan on going anywhere else in Charlottesville. They're friendly, affordable, efficient, do good work, and don't try to upsell you on anything. So refreshing to be able to go somewhere for an oil change without being told I need hundreds of dollars' worth of supposedly urgent services and tweaks.Services: Brakes, Oil change

Dave was awesome! Broke down out of town a few weeks back. He initially told me how I could potentially fix the issue myself, but to no avail I wasn't able to. Towed it to him and had it patched up nicely in no time. Stand up mechanic, highly recommend. One of the absolute best small mechanic shops in Charlottesville!!! Absolutely wonderful people work here and truly care about helping people get back on the road!They are always willing to help out and make things better, and will work with you the best they can!Straight Up Auto has worked on several of my family members vehicles and has always figured out and fixed any issues that come up!!!With the wonderful service, and the actual GOOD pricing that is affordable for normal everyday people, it makes it the best place hands down to bring your vehicle.

I went to Straight Up Auto for a second look at a possible issue with my car, and they were very helpful. They had told me there was nothing wrong with my car and they essentially saved me from getting scammed. Love this place! You can tell that they care about people.

I have two cars that I have serviced here !! Love it. They are very helpful, quick, and do not over charge. As a single mom of two with a driving teenager, things can get expensive and they are always up front. It's tough finding an honest mechanic, especially as a woman. Dave is trustworthy and personable. He will not quote you everything that's wrong with your car and then some. He will fix the necessary stuff (and do it well) and make sure your car is well maintained. I wish I was still living in the area because I cannot find a mechanic I can trust where I live now. I took my vehicle to Straight Up Automotive, and my experience was awesome! No complaints! I had my brakes done, and they were done quickly and at an extremely fair price! They are truly the most honest and hard working auto shop I have ever come to. I have gone several times, most recently I came in because my battery needed to get jumped. They promptly checked my battery, and instead of having me stay with them, they personally called Advanced Auto because they knew Advanced could do it cheaper. If that doesn't show you integrity, idk what else would. They are so incredibly trust worthy, I highly recommend them. Thank you specifically to David!Service: Battery

My first choice for a mechanic in Charlottesville, and they'd be my only choice if they did state inspections. I've taken my vehicles to them a few times over the years, but I have an anecdote that I think best illustrates what they do. They once pointed out a potential future problem to me that they'd noticed, not to give me a quote, but just as a DIY that I could fix myself.You know that someone is trustworthy when they're willing to help you out even when it doesn't benefit them.Services: Electrical repair, General repairs & maintenance, Auto engine diagnostic

I had a time-sensitive freeon leak and they got me in same day I called to diagnose the location of the leak and ordered the condenser I needed and installed it the very next morning. Original quote was for 5-6 hours of labor and it only took 3.5 so they (without asking) adjusted the price instead of overcharging. Super pleased with this professional and friendly staff. For the sake of my vehicle, I hope I am not back too soon - but would call Straight Up Automotive in a heartbeat if I need any more maintenance on my vehicle in the future.

I found myself at Straight Up Automotive Service -- unannounced on Monday morning -- after my car was vandalized in Charlottesville.The woman running the office and man who inspected my car (I am sorry I did not write down your names) were pleasant and understanding. They spoke to me as if I were a long-time friend.He looked at my car right away, before he even pouring himself a cup of coffee!Car was pronounced safe to drive home, 4 hours away, where I could have the stolen part replaced "by your regular mechanic at home. Save yourself some money and worry."I DID get home safely.They did not charge me for their trouble.I am thankful, and hope I will be able to Pay it Forward with similar kindness.

My wife s mini van was making a grinding clunking noise. She was traveling to see me in another state I found this place online and sent her there. They were swamped with customers but were able to at least take a look at her van they understood her dilemma. After a half hour they found the problem and sent her on her way. Great family owned business honest work. They could ve easily gotten us for some money but didn t. An awesome place highly recommend

Great staff and service. I ve been four times and every time I go they do the best work and try their best to give you a fair price. One time I went in for my 50k mile check up and they told me come in the morning. I thought that meant anytime in the morning so I went at 9am but they meant right when they opened. So when I got there they said I missed my appointment which I was annoyed by but instead of being rude one of the workers asked what I was there for and then he looked at my car and asked me questions. In the end he said I was fine and didn t charge me anything! Will continue to go back for services.

I cannot recommend this shop enough. My family has a fleet of older cars, and they are always able to get to the bottom of mysterious problems. They are, indeed, "straight up" about pricing. Elizabeth, at the desk, is hyper-competent, as are the mechanics. I love, love, love Straight Up!
