Peacock has a kind heart and soul that elevates it from being a place to get your car fixed, to being a place to connect with people in our community who care. It's also no joke- Joe will give you a straight answer about what needs to be repaired, how to do it correctly, and his opinion on what you should do next. That might be "fix it," or it might be "get a more reliable vehicle." I have experienced both situations and both proved to be correct.It's been a privilege to have Joe, Mandy, and the crew work on 4 of our cars over the years (VW, Toyota, Subaru, and Honda). I have never been disappointed. The price is fair, the work is generous, and the business is a gem.

Peacock Auto operates with more integrity and generosity than any other mechanic I ve worked with. I ve been going to them for about a year and a half and have had nothing but positive experiences. More than once they have not charged me for work that I think other mechanics would have. I also appreciate how they break down the service work they are recommending in a way that is straight forward and easy to understand. They clearly put people first, certainly customers, and I would assume their employees as well. They make the Charlottesville community a better place.

The whole team at Peacock are top notch! I don't think I'll ever trust another set of mechanics as much as I do Joe, truly. The team is great at giving me a heads up on work that will likely need done well in advance which really helps me out in the budgeting arena. Mandy is super lovely and always quick to respond if you have to leave a voicemail. (She holds it down up front!)

EDIT: Peacock went out of their way to make this right. I missed their response to this review and they left a message on my phone and worked with me on a solution. All of which were unexpected. Thank you Peacock - I really appreciate you.This is a tough review to write. Because I appreciate their honesty and that they won t do work just to do it for an easy buck. However, I had some work done on my car here (the rear sway bars replaced). Shortly after my car started making a horrible grinding and poping noise. I took it back for an oil change and to check out the noise. I was concerned it might be related to the recent work done. I was assured it was just rust on the undercarriage. Gradually the noise has gotten worse. I took it to another location for my inspection (because peacock doesn t do them) and I failed my inspection, because my sway bars are missing parts and improperly installed.So ..bit of a bummer there. Now I m back to driving to the dealership. Which, I am sad about because the reviews and honestly first experience seemed so promising.

The service writer Mandy was very friendly and made me feel welcome. Although she was managing a very busy service desk alone, her courteous, polite, and professionalism never wavered despite constant phone calls. My AC was toast and pumping out warm air only. I was quoted nearly 3K from a dealership for full replacement of the AC unit. Brought to peacock for a second opinion, they diagnosed a leak in the unit and refilled it, now it works good as new for less than 10% of my original estimate. My fianc� and I are somewhat new to the Charlottesville area. After a terrible experience at a different repair shop that shall not be named, we were hoping to find an honest, friendly and reliable place to bring our cars for routine maintenance. Peacock is all of the above and more. From the moment I walked in for an oil change, until the moment I left today, I was absolutely impressed. They are friendly, efficient, and I never felt like any other typical repair shop that was looking to charge as much as possible. Plus the resident office dog, Steve, was a pleasant surprise and an absolute gentleman. Peacock has earned customers for life today, thank you for the great service!

Excellent experience through and through. The staff was attentive and friendly and made me feel very comfortable while I was having my A/C service and inspected for a leak, which was ultimately identified and required repair. The technician showed me exactly what was going on and made it clear what was wrong. They took care of the issue promptly and were transparent with the way they developed the quote (not a standard repair). Ultimately, the bill was less than quoted, which is rare! Very happy with the experience and I will return for future servicing needs.Services: Auto A/C recharge, A/C installation & repair, Air conditioning

I stumbled across Joe and Peacock about a decade ago because it was the closest place I could push the car to from where it broke down.I was so pleasantly surprised with what I found. Here is someone deeply knowledgeable about cars, deeply caring about customers and not in it for the quick win.Joe consistently works to provide amazing and thoughtful service, and referrals as appropriate.He's found great ways to keep my older Subaru running without costing a fortune and helps me baby my newer Mazda. I cannot recommend Joe enough. I feel so fortunate to have stumbled across Peacock.Finally, I'm 100% sure I've never used "erudite" in an auto mechanic review before, but Joe's also just a great person to talk to. It's so hard to know who to trust these days especially when it comes to your car. I asked a friend for his recommendation and the excitement he had about sharing his love for Peacock Auto was so contagious that I vowed I would use it--and I'm so glad I did!! They did a diagnostic and assured me that the issue I thought my car had was actually not an issue at all and instead went to the root and I haven't had an issue since!10/10 recommend and will never take my car anywhere else as long as we both shall live.Services: Tires, Brakes

A friend a highly recommended Joe & Mandy's shop after I had had a poor experience at Settle Tire. I brought two cars to them in the past month and both times were hands down the best car repair experiences I've ever had with a shop. Friendly, efficient, accommodating, and no sketchy up charging with my repairs. Joe did an awesome job with my repairs. It's a truly family oriented shop that wants the best for their customers. My experience here has been great. They looked at my trunk opener which was having difficulty and taught me how to reset it. This is after Toyota refused to look at my car without me paying $175.Peacock, you have earned a loyal customer.

The radiator hose in my car had developed holes and I was able to make it over to Peacock auto with my engine overheat alarm yelling at me. Joe was able to quickly diagnosis the problem, order the replacement hose, and sent me on my way a couple of days later.While I was waiting for the part to come in, I went to the shop to see if I could pick up my car for a quick errand. I'm glad Joe caught me before I did further damage to my car - I didn't realize how extensive the leaks were! So extra kudos to him for being the voice of reason.

I was recommended this place by no less than 5 people around me who all are clients of Peacock, and I was able to see why after my first appointment. I was getting sick and tired of dishing out endless fees at the dealership that never really solved my car s issues (nevermind the fact that I was either not told what the problems were, or were charged for them to verify what I told them my car s problems were), but one afternoon with this team, and I was told exactly what was wrong, what my options were, what they recommended, and what my fees would be. When they (Peacock Auto) say Honest, Reliable, Affordable , they really mean it. Ever since, I ve been recommending them to my colleagues and friends, and they have all thanked me for referring them to a highly skilled team with quality service - a rare find in this town. Thank you team Peacock, and I ll see you soon for my next oil change/check-up!

These guys are extremely reliable and trustworthy. If you are looking for a mechanic then I can't recommend them enough. They might have a long waiting list but it's only because so many people trust them to treat them right that people are willing to wait to make sure they aren't getting screwed over. Peacock is the best, you can trust them to do you right.

This was my first visit after previously having my SUV serviced regularly at a dealership. I needed to have my front wheel bearing replaced and after doing my research decided to give Peacock Auto a try. They are thorough, friendly and do excellent work for a great price. Please bear with me.... My son vehicle broke down on the way home from college. I had the vehicle towed to Peacock Auto because of the review I have read and of the distance. Vehicle was towed there right before they closed up shop for a 2-weeks holiday break. I was fortunate to show up at closing time to meet Joe and his wife. They took time to do diagnostic before sending us on our way. We were expecting to pick up the vehicle in 2 weeks (after the shop break). But, guess what? Joe called me the next day and informed me that he had come in and worked on it for us. He recognized that we were from out of town. What more can you ask for? Vehicle runs like a champ after the alternator replacement. I am very thankful to Joe, Wife/his family, and his shop. The BEST customer service. They squeezed me in right before closing to help me find my kitten who somehow got stuck in my dash. They were very friendly about it and extremely helpful. NOBODY else in cville was willing to help me but these guys!! 10/10!! Will definitely be going back here for all my car needs.

I would give Joe and this auto repair shop 10 stars if I could; all of these google reviews speak the truth. My husband and I stopped here in the midst of road trip because our AC stopped working and the entire car had started rattling badly. Despite being very busy, everyone was so friendly and helpful, from the mechanic inside, to the lady in the office and especially Joe. Joe was extremely knowledgeable and helped us as best as he could under the circumstances. What I appreciated the most about him was his honesty. We ve been following his advice and it seems to be working so far. I would highly recommend coming here. If I lived here, Peacock would be THE place to bring my car. Many thanks Joe!

My wife's 2006 Honda Civic would not start on Tuesday so we jumped it and drove it to Valvoline. We thought it was the battery but Valvoline tested it and said it was the starter.We had the vehicle towed to Peacock from Valvoline on the recommendation from multiple coworkers. Peacock said they couldn't get to it until Friday. But later that day they said they could get to it on Wednesday.The service was done on Wednesday. The car starts just fine now. They replaced the starter for an affordable price. Very nice folks, great service, and excellent communication. I love how they under promised and over delivered. I highly recommend!

On almost a daily basis, I lament the disappearing small businesses that powered Charlottesville until not even 10 years ago. It seems gone are the entities that value relationships and building trust through service, honesty and genuine competence. I am so happy to say I have found a bastion of these attributes alive and thriving at Peacock's Auto service. Joe and his wife Mandy represent what drew me to Charlottesville many years ago. They are polite, kind, listen well and clearly care about their customers. They don't want to text you to say, " Come get your car". They want to speak with you and make sure you have any questions answered. I cannot express fully, how grateful I am tohave come across this funky and exquisite little business. I first went to Peacock to get a water pump/timing belt service done last year. Not only did they charge less than other local shops, but their level of communication was unparalleled. I ve had to take my car back a couple times since then, and Joe has been extremely helpful in explaining the issues. Every time I ve take my car there, the jobs have been finished on time and Joe was honest about what needed to be done vs. what didn t need to be done. They also provide a warranty on their work. I can t recommend Peacock Auto more highly. My catalytic converter was stolen twice in the past 2 months (#priusprobs) and Joe and his team have been incredibly kind, honest, and fair in their repairs, both times going out of their way to acquire quality used parts for my car in order to cut costs. They re a group of prompt, communicative, community-oriented, and genuine people, and I wouldn t consider taking my vehicle anywhere else.Services: General repairs & maintenance, Electrical, Engine repair

If all businesses were ran like Peacock Auto What would the world be like? The life abundant that s what. Peacock thrives on honesty, humor and an unnatural ability to diagnose the actual problem at hand. They shoot you straight and they don t miss. Supposedly head honcho Joe has an engineering degree but you d think had spent all his school time reading the classics and experimenting with sarcasm. I wish they owned a diner or cocktail bar so I would have reason to frequent their establishment more often. 7 stars.

I moved from another state to Virginia, and it was very easy to make an appointment. The team was very communicative. I felt like they were very honest in their assessment of how my car was doing and did not try and upsell me (I came in wanting all 4 brakes fully replaced and they talked me down to 2). Their prices were very reasonable. They allowed me to pick up my car when they were closed and then pay them online, it was SO EASY to get my car repaired here. I am blown away.Service: Brakes

I had an excellent experience with Peacock Auto; I brought my car in for what I thought would just be annual maintenance, but Joe and his team found some other underlying problem that needed to be addressed. He took time explain to me what issues were priorities and it was a fast turn around to get my car fixed up. Fair and honest work!
