Worst person ever I met. Yes, that's Scott. I took my car for windshield wiper problem. I told him that the motor is not working. After 3 hours he sent me a message that it will take $550+ for motor replacement. I found it too much and asked him to take my car back and will go another shop for second opinion. He then charge me $95 for windshield wipe inspection! He told me that it took 1 hour for inspection!!! Can you believe it? They are just fraud, while I said him earlier that my wipe motor is bad. Imagine the the situation, I had to pay $95 just for doing nothing. Never recommend. Worst Business person.Reply to the comment: I didn't want a free service. I already paid you. My concern is how come wiper checking took you 1 hour of investigation? Did you use microscope to do so, nonsense. This is surely a lie and made a false hour by yourself. On the other hand, if it actually took 1 hour to check the wiper, then think how inefficient you are! You are just a learner and don't deserve to run a shop. Close it. Period.

I was irresponsible and didn't pay attention, found myself past due for a safety inspection -- my usual go-to shops couldn't squeeze me in for another two weeks or longer...I called Marshalls per a friend's recommendation and they were able to squeeze me in within just a few days! I wasn't able to bring my car in until late morning but they still had it ready to go in roughly an hour despite seeming quite busy. Super friendly service, no hassle whatsoever -- I'll definitely be going back!Service: General repairs & maintenance

Marshall's is the only place I go for my car repair. Scott is just a good man, doing honest work. Very reliable and trustworthy. I never feel like I am getting taken advantage of. Car is always repaired rapidly and proffessionally. Could not reccomend here enough

I went to Marshall Tire and Auto for my inspection 3 years in a row. The first year it was something minor <100 that I needed to fix. Last year they failed me for wipers...ok 30 dollar fix. This year, they failed me for brakes and rotors before trying to charge me >1000 for the fix. I asked for the measurements of each pad before being told me, "well they are small enough to not pass inspection and they need to be fixed." I declined to have them fix it. I looked at the brakes and rotors and didn't notice them needing to be fixed. So, I took my vehicle to another shop I trust to do the work. Well, they were only halfway through the life of the parts and passed inspection at the other place. The lowest pad was 5/32 with 2/32 being the VA inspection minimum reading. I went to Marshall Tire and Auto, because it is close to my office and they had an opening when I needed it done versus the other places I have used. This place is fine if you come in for something that you know needs fixing (oil change, tires, etc.), but lying on an inspection is untrustworthy and I'll take my business elsewhere for life. Read reviews below of the exact same things happening year after year. Look up other places with higher ratings.Service: General repairs & maintenance

I went to this mechanic to change my front brakes. The mechanic wanted to change both the front and rear brakes and rotors for almost $1000! He said that the rear brakes needed service because the pads were low and the rotors were rusted. I only had the front brakes and rotors changed for about $490 which seems much above market rate.I inspected the mechanics work and found that he didn't even change the brake clips (see picture). Honestly, this is really poor quality work for a brake job. The brakepads come with free clips and it only takes a couple seconds to pull the old clips off and put the new clips on. Brake pad manufacturers included these with their brake pads because its important for the brake to function correctly. The manufacturers would love to save 20 cents if these clips were not important. If the mechanic skipped something so easy, it makes me wonder if he messed something up.2 days later, I changed my own rear brake pads (For $35 in parts). I found that the rear rotors were within spec. They had rust but it was an entirely normal amount of rust because rotors normally get rust the second they touch water. The pads made contact with the rotors no problem. This makes me think his suggestion that the rotors were bad was to get more money out of me.Service: Brakes

I went to renew my car's state inspection and my car failed the state inspection because of the front windshield wipers. I opted to fix the wipers myself and come back to the shop to get re-inspected. The mechanic took the time to explain how my wiper was in poor shape and where to look for tears, which was very kind. I was able to come back same day (within the hour) and get re-inspected. It was a very easy experience and I recommend this business for being helpful outside of the normal expectations and respectful towards their customers.

I was not going to bother writing a review, but considering the response to the last review... I don't think it's a nationality thing, but something fishy is going on here.I have had some basic maintenance done here for a couple years without a problem. Oil changes, inspections, etc. without any problem. But I had my car inspected here this year, and it was failed due to my rear brake pads and rotors. I was quoted about $500 for getting it to pass. I brought my car to be inspected elsewhere since I had been told that they were in good condition a couple months prior when I was getting a general inspection at the dealership. The place I brought it for inspection said "I don't know what they were trying to pull here, but nothing on your car is rejectable". They then brought me to the car and showed me how my rotors and pads measured up to the specifications for inspection.Regarding the last review response, if the shop would like to report this to the state police to verify that my car is actually in good condition and penalize the people who put an inspection sticker on if it's not, they are more than free to do so. I will retract this review if that's the case. I don't want to be driving around in an unsafe car either. But I think it's more likely that someone working here is not passing inspections so that they can get some extra money from doing unnecessary 'repairs'. If that's the case, then they're just writing threats on reviews to try to make it look like some 'less scrupulous' place allowed the car to pass inspection. So, even though it's convenient, maybe get a second opinion if they say your car needs repairs.Service: Oil change

I stopped by without an appointment to have an inspection for a friends car. Scott immediately greeted me upon entering the shop and asked how could he help. He told me it would be later in the day but would be glad to do the inspection. I left the vehicle there and he said he'd call me as soon as it was done. It was done hours before he said it would be and was so friendly and nice to deal with. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Scott failed my vehicle for the VA state inspection because of rust on the brake pads and or rotors. Showed me an estimate for over $600 and said I could have the vehicle back in an hour to hour and a half. Huh? Brakes had just been checked 30 days earlier and I was told everything looked good. I declined the repair - drove off with the FAILED INSPECTION sticker. Took car to my regular repair shop - had brakes rechecked - was told failing my car for the minor rust on pads/rotors was the equivalent of getting a speeding ticket for ONE mile over - perfectly legal but complete horse pucky. Was also told Marshall Tire is 'known' for this - location is close to UVA, students and parents and women get taken advantage of. PROBLEM is once you drive in for the inspection - the previous years sticker is immediately removed and you have NO option but to pay them to repair or drive off with a failed inspection sticker. I had time and option to have a trusted mechanic re check the brakes and go somewhere else for a state inspection. Vehicle passed- new sticker obtained.Service: General repairs & maintenance

I have a rental fleet of 10 cars, plus my personal vehicles. The workmanship is amazing. They do things right, and get it right every time! I appreciate the incredible value, I receive every time I visit. They are super friendly, call back when they say, and complete work promptly. Marshall Tire is a hidden treasure right in the heart of Charlottesville!!! You will not be disappointed.

Scott Marshall has serviced my VW Jetta at least twice now in the past six months. Scott has been incredibly honest, transparent, and timely in his repairs. I appreciate the estimates he is able to provide and he has definitely saved me several hundred dollars compared to other local shops/dealerships. Highly recommend giving Scott and Marshall Tire and Auto a chance to earn your business.

Best place for auto maintenance in the Charlottesville area for sure. I tried a few different places before someone recommended Marshall Tire and Auto to me. They are so nice, helpful and professional. I'm confident with the prices they give me and super happy with the timeline. I have an older car that has been having a lot of problems, so finding Marshall Tire and Auto has been such a relief.

I took my vehicle in to Marshall's for a sound it was making that had me worried. I had a month left on my inspection and told him to inspect it also. He calls me and says it needs new brakes, rotors, and upper and lower ball joints on both sides. He said he could do it for $2300.00. I immediately said no because I could not afford that. I called around to 3 other places for a quote on the same work and the highest was at $1300.00. The other 2 were close to $900. Less than half the price of Marshall"s. I ended up getting the parts from Advance for $300.00, watching a few you tube videos, and doing the work myself and it took me 4 hours. I don't have a shop with all the tools at my disposal and I'm positive it wouldn't have taken them more than two hours. That's $1000 dollars an hour to work on a car. Simply put, OUTRAGEOUS! And the rotors were fine. But my point is they never even tried to figure out what the noise was which I am now having to take to another shop for diagnostics, that will be FREE, no charge until I give them the go ahead to work on my vehicle.#1 VERY EXPENSIVE#2 Didn't do anything I asked them to#3 Were not truthful about the rotors

They just want you spend more money there. I had my car there for a state inspection and they called me for replacing my right two break rotors for nearly $500 to get the car passed! I don t believe them so I just paid 20 inspection fee to get my car back with a rejection sticker. Then I changed to another place and they just passed my car without any pushy things. Also, my girlfriend s car went here for inspection and have to change a new pair of wipers to get a pass. If you are not a native or not familiar with your car, don t go there!

Scott, who was previously with Bellair has been our mechanic for 15 years, saving us thousands of dollars, which means when he tells me our car needs an expensive repair I believe him. He is honest, reliable, and dependable. He one of the only mechanics we trust with our cars.

The upside: This shop is helpful and kind. Helped me jumpstart my car two blocks away. Really nice guys. They got what I need done in a few hours and we re prompt in calling me.The flip side: their prices for parts are outrageous. I m too scared to fight people down here as I m new, but they charged me close to $700 for a part that maybe costs $300 at max. Shame on me for not fighting it, I know, but it was a matter of urgency.

Got my oil change today, they got it done on 30 minutes. They are nice and friendly too. Also saw that they give 10% off on jobs over $100 to UVa employees and students.

What was once Palmer's auto in Keswick is now Marshall's. The place was fantastic before ownership changed. However, the receptionist at the "new" Marshall's is and was very standoffish. It will make it very difficult to bring anything back to this place because of that reason. Sad part about all of it is that Ryan in my opinion is one of the best mechanics in the area. They are very lucky and very fortunate to have him there as an employee. He is one of only 2 or 3 people I trust 100% with my vehicles.Unfortunately the receptionist has turned me off to going back.

Best auto garage in Charlottesville!! Scott is the most helpful, reliable and honest garage owner you will meet. They only do work that is absolutely needed and never over charge you or do any unnecessary work. My family has been dealing with him for the last 20 years and I drive over an hour to have him do all of my work. If you need work done to your vehicle this is without a doubt the only place I'd recommend in Charlottesville or the surrounding area!!

The worst workshop you can find broke parts of my car and said they would replace them with new ones and it's been more than two months and they don't answer my messages or calls, nor do they want to pay me for the damage to the car that they ruined even more and they didn't even leave it right. I had to pay extra to have it fixed at the dealer

I am shocked to see that there are several reviews regarding the same thing that happened to me. I myself went there a week ago and had my car inspected. They also told me the front control arms were cracked and that my windshield wipers were bad. they quoted me over $750.00 for the labor and parts when I got a second opinion from a certified inspection station, Really honest and good people, they told me there was in fact nothing wrong with the car as i suspected. This place clearly is trying to scam anybody who doesn't have much knowledge of cars. I do realize that this is something that can in fact fail on a car or go bad but to see that this within the last week has happened to several people for the EXACT SAME THING raises a flag for me. I find it hard to believe that Charlottesville is experiencing an increased number of cracked front control arms especially in a one week period. As someone who is in customer service it does not look good for a business to provide such poor service especially in a day in age when online reviews are so frequent. I would consider thinking twice before you try to scam another person out of money, if not for just being a decent human being.

The front rotors were expensive, I paid almost 500 USD for a 2010 chevy. I accepted the price because I wanted the inspection to pass. A year later and less than 10k miles, the brakes are already developing vibrations, I guess they installed the cheapest they could find.

I afforded 150 to put a starter on that I purchased on a on my car..... He wanted an hour and a 1/2 to 3 hours so anywhere from a 124 to $200.... $150 sounds fair he said no I can't make my own prices.... Go figure

Great shop, been going there about a year and they're quick, honest, and up front. They take pride in what they do and do business the right way to work with you. Definitely plan on staying here as long as I'm in Charlottesville. They may not overlook things during inspection, but in the long run it's better to just pay the money and have it fixed than take it somewhere that doesn't care and end up in a crash.
