If I could leave zero stars, I would. They have had my daughter s vehicle for 10 months. They never call to give us an update. Every time I call, I m told the mechanic (who is also the owner) isn t there. I just spoke to him for the first time and he had no apologies and nothing but excuses. They do not operate as an upstanding business and I would advise you take your vehicle any other place but this one. I would take any recent positive reviews with a grain of salt.UPDATE: We gave them a week and a half notice to have our car ready for us to have towed out of there, and we arrived this morning to find our car was destroyed and literally in pieces. They had told us that the car was running for 20 seconds but wouldn t stay running the previous time we had called to check in on what was going on and if it was fixed. They had told us SEVERAL times before that that the car would be ready by the end of the week . There is NO way this car was able to be started, let alone run for any amount of time. We still owe money on this car and it is now a total piece of garbage. I don t know what kind of operation they are running over there, but they are NOT honest OR trustworthy, and I would again advise you to find any other shop to work on your vehicle. I would hate to see anyone else go through what we have with them.

The work here was great! Larry was very helpful. I had only gone in for a VA State Inspection but he found a leak in the transmission due to gasket issues and had also noticed my rotors needed to be replaced, he was able to fix the issues in a timely manner. Took my car in for an oil change and VA safety inspection. My car needed a few repairs. They explained thoroughly to me what the car needed and was very fair with the price. I have tried many different service centers in Charlottesville over the past 30 years and this is the best. I have had extensive work done here over the past five years with four different cars. This is not a fancy place but their work is consistently high quality, done on time, and at a fair price. You are not pressured into repairs you don't need and you can trust what they tell you.I just want to add that the owner Garry retired, but many of the mechanics remain and still provide high quality work. My experience with the new management has been great. This continues to be the place I where I take my cars.

These guys are amazing! I was driving through Virginia with my 2004 Ford E350, on my way to Colorado, when I couldn t put gas in my van (it would just flow out and down the side of the van). I had previously spent a small fortune to have a mechanic fix the problem and Denver, but he failed. Now it had gotten worse and I feared that I was going to be stranded.Not only did Auto Doctor fit me in on the same day I called, Kiefer quickly and correctly diagnosed the problem and fixed in under an hour! Not only that, but he rode with me to the gas station to verify that I could fill up the car.I can t say enough about the professionalism of these guys. Also, as a single woman, I felt that they respected me and discussed the details of the issue as they would with anybody else.Lastly, it was impressive how the owner initially assessed the problem and then assigned the guy who had expertise in the area.

Absolute life saver!!!! Yasha answered the phone on the Saturday before 4th of July when he was supposed to be closed. We were driving into Charlottesville from Charlotte NC, and our AC completely died 2 hours out. He agreed to let us come in, took the car, no questions asked, and within 4 hours had us back in our car, good as new. Very courteous, very knowledgeable, and gave us detailed explanation for what had gone wrong. Thank you so much for giving up your weekend to keep our travel plans on track. came in for inspection they failed car due to inner tie rod and brake caliper. we took car home fixed it brought back next day. they called said car failed again because of inner tie rod on opposite side. I ask why he was inspecting whole car again and not just parts it failed for he said thats what you do ( I know better) so I ask how it goes bad in 24 hours? Larry said he must have wrote it down wrong. long story short he wanted to put the old one we took off and put on other said I said no. Called state inspection police they came inspected car and nothing was wrong with tie rod but lower ball joint was bad someone is in trouble.

My experience at Garry s Greenbrier the worst I've ever had with a mechanic, in more than 40 years of driving. We all want a mechanic who is both honest and competent, and they seem honest. But I'm not willing to settle for one or the other. In short, I had to bring the car back in to repair the same issue three times (twice requiring towing because the issue wasn't fixed), leaving me open to potential road strandings over the Thanksgiving holiday, and both the owner and the technician showed non- existent customer service skills. The owner was downright rude, and the tech made excuses. Also, if you pay by credit card, they charge you $35, and they don t keep records to speak of. My experience appears to have things in common with that of Melissa, below. They may be fine for routine maintenance; though I wouldn't trust them again. For details, please check my review on yelp.

As an out of towner who needed a repair I was really disappointed in my experience with Auto Doctor. I took my car in for an inspection and they quoted me a price for a repair that I thought was exceptionally high. I took my car to the dealership for a second opinion and their estimate came in at $700 cheaper than Auto Doctor for the same repair work. On top of that, when I returned to pick up my car from Auto Doctor their technician had failed to replace the glove compartment, leaving the inner workings of the dash exposed and all of my things thrown haphazardly in the floor. The whole experience felt grimy and I would caution those looking for significant repair work on their cars to be wary.

I was having trouble getting my car to start after filling it up with gas. Auto Doctor fixed the problem and I was on my way! Great service!

When I lived in Charlottesville this was the only place I ever used. Never had an issue with any work they performed. Prices were always reasonable. This was from back in 2010. Took me forever of find someone as reliable and trustworthy as Garry.

My brother came in from out of town for the day & his truck wouldn t start, AAA said it wasn t the battery. This was the only place open on a Saturday afternoon that would look at it that day! Yasha was incredible & found what was wrong quickly & fixed it & made sure my brother was able to travel back to his home. Ask for Yasha, he is so knowledgeable & I will definitely be bringing my car to him anytime I need anything!Services: General repairs & maintenance, Engine repair

I discovered that I had a nail stuck in my tire on my way out of town. Due to convenience, I stopped at a different mechanic but they were extremely unprofessional (arguing with a customer), so I left and went straight to Gary s. i should ve gone there in the first place! The guys there are so helpful, professional and really take care of their customers. I would recommend them to anyone in the Cville area.

From out of town, was in Charlottesville and truck would not start. Called them Saturday afternoon, had the truck towed there an hour later and Yasha looked at the truck right away. Problem was not apparent from the start, but Yasha continued to search for the issue - he was able to find a small fixable issue and I was able to drive away that afternoon. He no doubt saved me lots of time and thousands of dollars with his thorough assessment of my truck. If you are in Charlottesville and need car repair this is the place to go. Can't recommend enough.

I come from a family of mechanics. I will not use any other mechanic since I moved to Charlottesville. I trust these guys with my companies vehicles and my personal vehicles. They are the best priced and best quality mechanics around. Would make my dad proud if he was still with us.

Just saying I'm just saying won't take any of my vheicles anywhere else nomatter what time day hour there always willing to get the job done and having a brand new vheicle supposed to be special dealership ain't worth a but just saying resealable prices the best service and great work and hospitality nomatter what ya dig it

These people are total scumbags. Paid $1,800 for a major repair that appeared to have not even been done according to 2 other shops. Had to pay someone else $2,400 to completely do the job again. Seriously, they are scam artists. I should've trusted my gut. Stay far far far away.

They were very honest and helpful. Told me work recommended by another shop was not needed and charged me hundreds of dollars less than another shop quoted for the same job. Very happy and highly recommended!

They take care of all our vehicles. When we have an emergency breakdown they always fit us into their schedule ASAP and prices are reasonable. Best shop in town!!!

These guys have been working on my familiy's cars for as long as I can remember. They always make room for us in the schedule and never overcharge us. Sad to see some people have had poor experiences here!
