Overall I enjoyed the town of Cape Charles and the hotel was a last resort because everywhere else was booked due to the holiday weekend. I am by no means a high class person and understand that a room for a couple of nights is a room, at least the bed was comfortable. My issue is simply the price I paid for the room considering it is not an ocean front room/on the beach and the cleanliness. When I think of resort this is not what I had in mind and it is not one, it would probably be a better experience to actually camp in the campground or camper. Our room was on the 2nd floor near the entrance to the camp ground where the nasty pool is. I was noticing a lot of chirping sounds coming from what sounded like either the dumpster or somewhere in the stair well since this is an outside hotel and a bird actually flew out from behind the stairwell at one point during our stay. Upon check out I brought to the attention of the front desk lady (who was not friendly or provide any customer service) that I was concerned about what sounded like birds inside the stairwells and explained I heard these sounds all night the previous night. She informed me that they can t control wildlife and pretty much laughed. I stated I understood this but my concern was nesting where there are people staying, she informed me that if they are nesting they are not allowed to disturb, she also pointed out this was a 2 star hotel. Exactly so why did I pay more money for this hotel and room than I would at an ocean front hotel on the beach ($262 with tax) each night, almost $900 for 3 nights. Hopefully the new manager who seems very nice turns this place around because it was not worth the price I paid, updating the flooring in the room doesn t justify the price I paid and the refrigerator in our room definitely needs to be replaced, looks like it s about 20 years old.

Horrible! Sadly this was my first experience visiting Cape Charles and although the town is lovely this resort is abysmal. I paid 520 dollars with tax for two nights stay in their hotel . It s not a hotel it s actually a low budget motel. There is no room cleaning. When I asked the front desk about it, they said they do a towel exchange if I were to leave the towels outside the room. Did that three hours later after going to the beach still no new towels. Went personally to front desk where the housekeeper argued with me that she just got there which didn t matter to me, I had been waiting three hours for towels. There was sand, yes sand in my bed. I had to wipe off to try to sleep in the bed. The bathroom well just look at the pictures attached. There were holes in the walls, looked like bullet holes. Cheap paint. Stains on the pillow cases. Old ratty towels. The Pool for the hotel had debris floating in it and was unusable in peak season. They should market this place as a campground and RV park and either remodel the hotel or tear it down! It s disgusting!!!! The housekeeping cart stayed outside our room abandoned 1.5 days. You will again see my morning photo and then my photo when we returned to the room that night and it was still there. No phones in the room to call the front desk. There is access to beach, a resort pool that is tiny for the 500 people there this holiday weekend and a nice restaurant close by. Literally all we did here was the beach access and drove down to Cape Charles for everything else. Unless you are camping or own an RV avoid this place and stay in Cape Charles at one of the lovely hotels there. I have also included a picture of the stay receipt from a previous person who stayed in our room for 5 days and paid the same price I did for 2. Honestly I would ve been less upset about how deplorable it was had I paid the lower price. They cleaned the room in between visitors right!?!?! Hmmmm .maybe check the drawers next time. I m disgusted, rushed home to take a shower and decontaminate from this place! Yuck!!!!!!Rooms: Horrible see aboveNearby activities: It s far from the actual town. You feel isolated unless your plan is to park and just stay here.Walkability: Can walk to beachFood & drinks: The restaurant at the resort is nice

There has been a huge decline in service and cleanliness since I first visited Sunset Beach Hotel a few years ago. I called about 6 times before we arrived and no one answered the phones. They also didn t answer the phone when we were staying there either. I needed linens for our pull out couch and it took talking to 4 people over the course of 3 days to get them. We had no shower curtain so that made it difficult to hang up wet clothing and towels. The whole experience was not good. I love the location and it is my favorite place to vacation but next time I plan to stay in a cottage.

Stayed here with my wife and granddaughter. We've been coming here for over 15 years no problem but this last time was my last. I think ownership has changed. The room was disgusting. My check in was terrible. I couldn't check in until 610pm for a 4pm check because I was told none of the cleaners showed up to work. We had zero towels in our room, holes in the ceiling and walls, rusted microwave, and dirty face rags hanging on the shower from previous person. F- experience.

I've been staying in this motel for about 25 years. Last weekend was my last stay. I've put up with a lot given the great location, proximity to the boat launch and the ample boat parking, but for what we paid for the room I would expect a) the bathroom ceiling not to be failing, b) the bathroom not to be covered in mold c) there to be clean towels available (the weekend before July 4th no less) and d) the "poolside" room we booked to actually be near a pool safe for human habitation, not some green algal ridden pond. I think this place has milked its status as the only game in town a little too long. Next year I'll put up with a little longer commute to the boat launch. The campground seems to be well liked, it was packed, with campers seemingly stacked on top of one another.

Going on a road trip to North Carolina in a day is tough, made a stop over here for the night in South Virginia where I found this hotel. Got a room and I have to say, it s not bad, some photos around of the sunset at beaches, etc. beds were actually quite comfortable which made it nice, bathroom could get a good update for it, design looked a bit sketchy.Around the hotel, look like a motel, but in the back was this beautiful beach that is very clean and filled with people happily playing and relaxing. Especially having food at the restaurant near the beach where you can see the water, the food was very delicious especially the fries that came with it, Woah! Blew me away.Service was great, quick but there to help incase you need them.Location of the hotel is honestly an ok area. You do have to do a bit of driving to get up to Cape Charles for restaurants, stores and more. It s more right next to the bridge where there is nothing. Beaches being here and more, could say there a lot to do here.Overall, this hotel could use some updates but everything else was just very good. Gotta say, amazing time here and if I ever do have a road trip back to N.C, I will definitely stop by here to spend a night. Probably won t stay here for 2 nights though.Rooms: Could use an update.Nearby activities: Pool s, Restaurant, Beach.Food & drinks: Food and drinks was absolutely something I have to come back too.

Came here with my husband for a quick honey/babyMoon. From previous reviews I was really nervous about what we were getting into regarding the rooms but we were pleasantly surprised. The room was perfect and clean for our short stay. The hotel is a VERY short walk or drive to the PRIVATE beach which was amazing. The staff was friendly and made sure our stay was great! The grounds are about 15 mins from the downtown Main Street with all the shopping and restaurants which we drove to every day and thoroughly enjoyed it! Only thing we were a little disappointed with was the pools weren t open (they were filling it up when we were there) but the beach was so nice it made up for the disappointment. We will definitely be back and will try out some of the cabins next!

Room disgusting.Paint peeling off the wall, grim around the bath tube, and bugs.I would have left but after driving 12 hours I was afraid to not find another room.Hoping to go to restaurant after a long day but room being filthy I was apprehensive about how the food was being prepared. My suggestion is stay away.

Rooms are really just 2 stars. Kind of clean but a bit older. They're spacious enough. Fridge and small microwave. You'll see older tiles under a layer of cover-up in the bathroom in some rooms. You can meet people drinking in corridors around hotel rooms. Didn't feel dangerous but it's good to know. The RV village next to the hotel and the beach of the entire complex are great. Shortage of staff at the reception but I was served quickly. Pools and grounds are cleaned and well managed. Really worth it if you have a small budget. Very close to the Bay Bridge

The hotel rooms were clean when we arrived. House keeping did a great job of cleaning up as we all were on the beach. The people working there were super friendly. The food at the Jackspot was delicious. The band that played when we were there was a lot of fun. The beach was beautiful, and all of the boats that came and anchored off shore made us feel like it was The Place to Be. If I came back to Cape Charles we would stay here again. It s a fantastic low key beach resort on Virginia s Eastern Shore.

Nice place to stay on the Eastern Shore of Virginia if you re in that area. Rooms need updating but the beds are comfortable. We had an issue with the room but they gave us another with no hassle at all. Excellent views from the beach here as well. They have a restaurant there also,The Jack Spot.

EW. I booked and paid for a king suite one month prior to our stay at the hotel. One hour prior to check in I received a message that unfortunately our reservation is cancelled they are so sorry no rooms no cabins they are overbooked and we may have to stay at the holiday inn. I called back probably 20 times before someone at the front desk answered and I told them I just drove 10 hours and have a baby and we need somewhere to stay and that I already paid etc.. I was offered a different room than what I paid for but it was so last minute we took what we could get. I didn t get any discount or refund for accepting the room with a queen bed when I paid for a king suite. When we arrived the room was dimly lit, floors sticky, dead bugs on the ground, mold on shower curtain, paint chipped horrible bathroom floor was wiped with towel and turned black, sand in the bed. They don t do maid service so we did not get fresh linens or towels or garbage taken out. Honestly worst lodging experience I ve ever had it was disgusting and a giant vacation buzz kill I spoke with the manager about my issues and he did literally nothing but saw him drinking at the bar with coworkers while wearing company uniform.

I ll start with the only good things about our stay, which was a giant inflatable jump pad and the resort pool. The rest was pretty bad. They call it a hotel, but it s a motel. The motel pool was closed the whole time we were there, with no warning or explanation. The dining options were extremely disappointing and we had to drive off-site for the rest of our meals. The Happy Jacks cafe either wasn t open or only served ice cream, hardly what I would consider a casual dining option. The Jackspot was even worse. It was a walk-up counter serving extremely over-priced bar food. Our room seemed clean at first, but there was mold on the curtains by the AC unit and all over the shower curtain. The paint was peeling off the tiles in the shower to reveal the old tile that they had painted over. It s a public restroom toilet (the kind where you use your foot to flush the handle) and the water heater (or something) didn t work as the temperature of the water fluctuated between scorching hot and cold drinking water for all of our showers during our 3 day stay. The shower head wasn t installed properly so that the water only sprayed into the corner and you had to stand up against the wall in the corner for the water to hit you, and the shower head wasn t adjustable. When I asked about housekeeping, they said, Oh they should have told you when you checked in that we don t do cleaning service for overnight stays. They did not mention this and then said, Well it was in your paperwork. Our trash cans were overflowing by the time we left. The outside of the motel had a lot of trash as well on the stairs and walkways. The campground looked really nice and I wish we would have stayed there instead.

It s hard to evaluate this place. On one hand, the hotel room is old and not very clean. I m not picky but if I decided to stay here again I would bring my own cleaning supplies and reclean the room. On the other hand, this place has a mile of coast line and a nice tiki bar with hammocks and a pool. I felt instantly relaxed when I stepped on the property and all the staff and other guests we encountered were so nice. To top it all off - Cape Charles is a very quaint and relaxing place to visit.

Great amenities, clean and quiet. I ve stayed 2 times. Once at the hotel and once rented an RV. Hotel is okay, not close to the beach. Seems they cater more to the RV folks. I rented an RV, says it sleeps 6. There were 4 of us (adults). 6 would have been tough. If you rent an RV the beds are extremely hard! I also suggest renting a golf cart to make getting around easier.I did find it hard to reach staff when we ran out of propane and heard similar things from other guests. The RV had a coffee pot and no filters, in case you bring your own coffee, which I recommend. We rented kayaks from them which was great. Perfect beach for beginner kayaking. I was really surprised how close a lot of boats came to the shore. Seems a little unsafe and the oil from the boats in the water was gross.Overall we had a great time. We ll be back for sure. They had a great lineup of bands and activities. Everyone we ran into was very friendly.

The rooms were not so bad, but everything outside was dirty. Steps and walkway outside had trash and needed a good cleaning. They ran out of water twice in one day. Couldn't bath after being at the beach all day. Couldn't flush toilet. Private beach had trash everywhere. Staff was semi friendly. Coffee maker was a joke.Would not recommend this hotel at all. Clean it up and have house keeping offer clean towels etc. No daily room service to get your trash or anything.

I am here now, and would go somewhere else in the area if I could. As a campground this place would be great, but the motel part needs a lot of work. Check in appeared to be a breeze until I found myself back in the front office with the three groups that I was in line with first. We all got the wrong rooms, or housekeeping had not been to the room in between guests. As I got to my room I noticed a few little things, but blew them off. But as the days have gone on it just keeps getting worse. The rooms are filthy, broken, and out dated. Rust on the lamps, bathroom walls falling to pieces, something black on the lamp shades. I have asked for housekeeping to come for two days and have yet to see them. Luckily they left a cart out and we took care of some things ourselves.Diffently won't be back unless it is to camp.On the bright side the campground looks great. The pool there is clean and maintained along with the shower houses. The snack bar has good food but very over priced. Direct beach access is also good.Rooms: Rooms were dirty. Housekeeping was no where to be found during our trip.Nearby activities: Beach access was greatFood & drinks: Food was over priced and just OK. Noteworthy details: Drive right on by and go into the town of Cape Charles. You will spend a lot of time there anyway.

They didn t harass me about getting my money back but I wished I could of stayed I needed a getaway after my dad died

I stayed at the hotel prior to them up grading. My expectations for staying was sadly disappointing. Soon as I got in my room the rest room was horrible & dirty. The shower had a ball of hair in it and hair all over the floors in the entire room . Paint was chipping off the walls and there was mold in the shower and rusted appliances. The bed sheets had stains on them . The staff was very nice only thing positive I can say! The hotel charged my debit card twice for unknown reasons at all which i was later on refunded but still a big inconvenience because I did not receive my money right away. The room grossed me out . I would recommend staying in a cabin but I will never stay in the hotel at all . They had a very strict quiet time at 10 which was very annoying. My family enjoy the golf carts , pool and the beach .. The restaurant food was way over priced & nasty! The hotel really needs to put some money into them rooms & hire house keepers who know how to clean.

The staff is wonderful! The really do want to help you any way that they can! We did have a sense that they may have been a tad understaffed. The rooms were fine and all we really needed! Nothing fancy but definitely functional!!!We noticed the cabins at the KOA area that looked super cool! We may try those next time!!!

First, a big shout-out to Ignacio. He was so helpful and patient with this weary traveler!Second, after reading a lot of reviews, people just don t understand how difficult it is to maintain a property located on the bay/ocean. Sea air destroys all metal surfaces.Third, damp air is absolutely unavoidable and there may be mold-it is very difficult to stay ahead of mold without harsh chemicals. The high end hotels battle the same issues so I m assuming all the people who left poor reviews on these topics have never stayed at a high end hotel on the beach.Fourth, this is a family establishment with an adjacent campground. You won t find a better place to soak in the beach life and to enjoy sounds of happy children playing. Staff is friendly, rooms are clean and comfortable. I ve stayed here many times and will continue to stay here when I visit the Eastern Shore.

Don't be fooled by the room pictures posted on the website. This hotel is not remodeled as they claim. At least the room we had was very dated, especially the bathroom and poorly maintained. Paint was peeling from all walls and it was not cleaned very well. Thankfully we were only there for one night. We will not be returning. The only plus was the mattresses seemed to be fairly new and were comfortable.
