Rented a cottage and spent about $100 per night for a linen package. Arrived and found beds unmade and linen package included very cheap sheets, NO pillows, and NO towels, so we ended up spending about $50 at local Dollar General for basic necessities. Only enough hot water to allow about one shower per hour. Kitchenette only had a few paper plates and disposable forks, spoons and knives. NO cups or bowls. The fire alarm kept chiming through our stay, even though they stopped by to fix it. Really small everything. No decor whatsoever. For about $250 a night in the off-season, we expected more and would have done better in a house rental or hotel. The best thing I can say is that the staff was quite friendly.

I had a review from a few years ago and I needed to update. This campground has changed ownership. It shows. I'm not saying it is a bad experience but it isn't for the better. Prices are up. Rules are engaged to a degree that you wonder why it is necessary. And they may be shorter staffed which makes the cleanliness and service suffer. Not always controllable. If you decide to provide an auxiliary bathroom near the fishing shop, maintain it and at least make sure it locks. One was out of order. Just remove it if you can't maintain it. If you don't mind paying the price by all means come and enjoy that sunset. It is beautiful!

This is a huge campgrounds with lots of family friendly kid activities. It's also very packed with tent camping, RV camping and cabin camping. The sites are an ok size, but there isn't any privacy, which is normal for private campgrounds. They are stone, sites do not have fire pits, you just pick a spot and burn. We ended up not having campfire. I felt like the campgrounds hadn't been kept up with mowing and weed eating or cleaning of the flower beds. It would have also been nice if some of the weeds had been trimmed so the sites could see bay area clearer. They have a huge general store that has everything, which was really nice! I would make a recommendation that if someone is staying more than a certain amount of nights to make a deal with the golf carts, $79 night is a lot on top of full hook ups, plus a 7 night stay. We didn't rent one, but it is definitely something that is recommended and easier to get around. They have an adult only pool where you can have adult beverages. That pool was very clean. The beaches were not very clean. Despite it not being kept up the best, we hope to eventually return in a few years.

When it was Cherrystone, it was great. Now that it is Sun Outdoors, it is not so great. Website says $30 for early check-in but if you get here early, you have to pay the full daily price for the night before or wait until 2pm. When asked about the $30, they said they don't follow the website. All they care about is getting your dollar. They nickel and dime you for everything. This is a great location. It is just too bad it has lost its charm. This is the last time our large group will come here.*A phone call was made prior to arrival. The front desk stated that there are no early check-ins and that the daily rate would apply. This was my son's booking as I was already there. I went to the office with the website ready to show wht their site states. They said they do not participate in what their website says.Scarystone used to be amazing and packed. Then, the pricing changed. There were at least half or more of the RV sites that were not occupied. 3 years ago, there were zero sites available. Last year, there were quite a few open spots. This year, nearly everything was vacant other than the 50 amp sites and cabins.Again, the location is amazing. Great sunsets. Especially from site 711.

We were just there from 8/4-8/10. Overall we had a nice time. We found the staff very friendly. We were in a rustic cabin and it was relatively clean and our air worked great, but the roads around those cabins were terrible. It was like those sites/ that section are the forgotten portion of the campground. There was plenty to do for the kids although we were disappointed in the candy bar bingo. There were over 100 people playing and only 3 games played. So each person won at least 30 king size candy bars. Why they don t add more games and spread out the candy is beyond me. The one winner even said what am I going to do with this many candy bars. I am a seasonal camper in NJ and our games are based off the amount of players. So if we had that many participants, we would have played at least 10 games. Also, while I see a lot of responses that security is in the park 24/7, I saw none, and no one enforcing any golf cart rules. I saw kids as young as about 10 years old, barely reaching the pedals, driving around all over. Very scary. The shuttle offered is an amazing amenity offered and we used it a few times. I have recommended this place to a few friends because ultimately we had a good time. But maybe have more security watching the golf carts, specially the private golf carts brought into the campground, for under age drivers.Safety: Concerns for under age golf carts driversWalkability: Campground is pretty big, not easy to walk around. But there were plenty of golf carts available and I didn t think the price for them was bad.Food & drinks: Prices in the cafe are pretty high, but we happy with everything we had.

My husband and I originally booked this campground for just a quick overnight on our way to OBX. However, we decided to stay here for a few nights instead and I am happy we did. The pools, grounds, cafe, laundry room etc.. were all clean and taken care of. The staff were nice and the young lady who assists with the boat rentals had exceptional customer service. While they are short staffed the staff that they do have try their best. Keep up the great work. Thank you for a great trip!

OVERPRICED!! You need to really read what premium sites mean for this location. Premium view yes but no sewer hook-up is (not premium).. Sites were really confusing about pulling in. Welcome center can work on being a little more welcoming. Little Neck Cafe was a joke we were in there for 15 to 20 minutes and saw ZERO employees. The General Store women were just rude lets say I forgot my wrist band and walked in the (women) said you are cute and all but where is your wristband REALLY! Then 2 other women the following day were nice to "regulars" but didn't want to acknowledge me or speak to me. Between all the "rules" and they tell you about the rules everywhere you GO and the wristband band enforcement it really was not a relaxing place. But shout out to Brittany and Alan and the Bait and Tackle store and the maintenance guy they were top notch employees and SUPER friendly. General store women/girl WORK on yourself.XOXOYour Friendly RV "Customers" remember that we customers help pay your paychecks.Received a response 18 minutes ago from who NOT sure as they did not say who they were or a title really professional???? Another issue you should probably work on.Your response is weak just like your customer service skills. Your park is struggling whoever you are maybe you should have started with I am sorry you are disappointed with your stay we are currently working on issues. But let's add some things on how you could do better. #1 our first location was 32 NOT 57 which we already paid $230.00 then to move to our 2nd site you might not know your own pricing that was an additional $150.00 to move... No fire pit, bathrooms were gross, pot holes are awful, site 100% unlevel, confusing hook ups for ALL, and there was no water for the first 1 hour we were there, and nobody i mean nobody answered the phone when we were calling. Most of your staff sucked except those listed. Welcoming package stated ALL things NOT allowed but not once did it say THANK YOU or enjoy your stay it was a package of telling you not to do things or be mean to employees but your employees NEED/MUST have training in order for this park to survive. maybe employees are treated nasty by customers because that is what your employees display or your employees put out... Peddle boats are 1980 and need to be redone, rental bikes and golf carts are old and rusty. The list goes on and on for the price you need a ton of updates including your employees and yourself. Your response clearly states you do not care about customers... I will let you know that I am NOT the only one that feels this way their were multiple guests that were complaining of the SAME ISSUES... But I am pretty sure you already know you have issues. My first post was just a little advisement but after your weak response I decided to let you know that there are MAJOR issues and maybe it starts with management.I would and need at this point a corporate and or your manager number to call as clearly you are not capable of handling any customer complaints.XOXOYour Friendly RV "Paying" Customer

We are here right now for the first time. The campgrounds are nice but have a lot of potential to be beautiful. The pools are cloudy and look like they haven t been vacuumed in weeks, which is pretty gross when you have little kids. There is not a worker in site, so if you need assistance with something, good luck. Things just look pretty run down and literally nothing like the website.

We first came when this was Cherrystone. We loved it so much we wanted to come back. Now being Sun Outdoors, it's not quite the same. This time we opted for a "Premium" site (256). There is absolutely nothing... I mean nothing premium about this site (we either have to share the same camper door side with the site next to us or face the camper the other direction and step over the sewer line all stay). The upkeep on the whole campground has gone so far downhill. The pool decks are being taken over by the grass and weeds growing through the fence. I didn't feel the pools were kept nearly as clean as they were in the past and there were way less people there on this stay. Half of the pedal boat pond was closed which appeared to be that they didn't want to clean it. The snack shack is super disappointing, they had less than half the menu items available. The staff were very nice and kind. The bait shop was helpful to my kids who were fishing for the first time. The Littleneck Cafe had some good food and again the staff were very nice. Overall it's a toss-up as to whether we will be back here. This campground was so awesome as Cherrystone but after this stay I'm only seeing this slowly going downhill.

The campground is poorly managed and maintained. The bathroom at the adult pool was almost overflowing with human waste; our site was a mud pit 3 days after the rain cleared out while others around us were dry. We asked management for something to help dry up the mud and they could not be bothered so we ended up buying 40 pounds of cat litter and cleaning it up ourselves. No one to enforce the rules as we had called the ranger station 3 times due to noise after quite hours and finally had to threaten the ranger with calling the police if nothing was done at 1:30 in the morning. Children are driving golf carts when the age posted was 18. The electrical services is not up to the 50 amp site we booked. We almost had a fire because of low voltage which cost us a $500 repair. They also make you wait until 2:00 to get to your site. You would think that they were out there cleaning up your site but no - when we arrived there was garbage left by the previous campers. Thank God for our wonderful friends who made this bad situation bearable. We were at other Sun Outdoors and they cared about the customer - not here!!

Amending review, see below:We are repeat customers. Due to an accident we could not make our reservation and asked for it to be rescheduled or a refund to be issued. They refused. We had 2 other reservations elsewhere and they were very understanding , and one refunded and one rescheduled us for the next year. Do not reserve with this place, because if something occurs beyond your control they will not refund or reschedule, even being notified at 10 days beforehand.****Sun Outdoors phoned upon reading this review and did refund our money. We appreciate very much, their understanding of the situation.

I stayed one night at this campground and that's all I can take. The first point of contact which was the main office which set the tone. The office has very high counters where you can hardly see the employees. The ladies were did not smile and gave yes and no answers, offered no solutions. I understand dealing with people is hard but there is a usually a way to turn a bad conversation around. These ladies did not seem to care at all. During our several trips to the office I saw one older lady who was smiling but I didn't get a chance to talk to her. The guard shack guys where my favorite. They always had a smile and were jokesters. I loved it. The little neck cafe had the same issues with employees, they seemed miserable. The main pool ladies bathroom smelled like urine. The bathroom by our cabin was much better. They have lots of amenities for families with young kids. The park was clean and in a great location but I wont go back. The cabin had several safety issues .The camp store by the main pool was well stocked and hours were good.

The swimming areas are large with enough loungers to accommodate all. I noticed the lifeguards reading not watching the water at all. It did rain an entire day while we were there and poor drainage was evident throughout the park, not only in flooded camp sites but entrance to the laundry had a 6" lake around it. There is lots to entertain the kids, daily crafts, paddle boats, pools, and activities. I wouldn't recommend for adults only but, if you have kids they would enjoy it here.

We have been coming to this place for years. Yes Cherrystone sold out to Sun Outdoors but we have not noticed anything majorly different. Camping is mostly what you make of it. This place has a large beach area where you can bring your favorite floaty and relax in the water. The water is very shallow with minimal current. There are 4 fishing piers to fish or crab from. They also have boat rentals at very reasonable prices. The area you are allowed to go is small but is loaded with fish. Our area was quite full but quiet. Some sites are made to go parallel vs perpendicular. All you have to do is call for maintenance and a tractor will put the trailer in correctly. We will back again in 2024.

Finally, I'm getting around to placing my review. My first visit of this year was around Memorial weekend with my own personal RV. It was raining, and it was difficult trying to get the RV set up. However, guest services employee Brittany made my setup a complete breeze!! She was always there to help and even taught me things about my RV that I didn't know. She made sure RV was completely set up, and I was good to go before leaving while we both worked in the pouring rain. MORE Then, once during this vacation time, did Brittany come to my rescue!! Brittany is an A1 employee!!The camping resort provides a free customary guest bus shuttle. So if you need to take a trip across the street to the Food Lion or into downtown Cape Charles for dining and shopping, the service is provided with good hours.I took a shuttle ride into Cape Charles and was driven by Walt, who gave me a history of Cape Charles while we took the scenic route. What an informative and joyful experience provided by Walt. Walt is no longer employed there but has since retired; happy retirement, Walt!Cherrystone AKA Sun Outdoors has always been my go-to number one camping site located 17 miles past the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel.2nd Vist Aug 27th and 28th 2023 - I just came back from the Eastern Shore last weekend camping, but this time, I rented a cabin. What a change from years ago. The log cabins now have refrigerators and air conditioners that have been added they were great.Cabins come with a set of bunk beds and a double size bed. You do need to bring your own Linens, but the mattresses that they provide actually were quite comfortable even for somebody like me with a bad back. However, while visiting Cherrystone this particular time, I hate to say, but I have to say this... once we got PAST the guest check-in, everything was better. After that, the rest of the employees from the Ranger station were pretty friendly and accommodating. However, when checking in, we were given the wrong information regarding the golf cart pickup time, so we I had to go back to get a golf cart that we decided to rent not once but twice! The ice machine kept going out, but guess who showed up, Brittany, and she fixed it, thank goodness! Sadly, though, it did continue to go offline the rest of the time I was there. The Deloreans performed on Saturday evening, wonderful entertainment. And then they had an acoustic guitarist on Sunday, which was great while you're watching the sunset. One thing I will say as a loyal Cherrystone camper is that things are not what they used to be as far as service goes, there's a lot of changes at Cherrystone and many new restrictions, not to mention the check-in times are much later and the checkout is early to me. I feel like I'm losing almost a whole day. However, with that being said, I did find out that you can utilize the activities there such as the swimming pool but you are not allowed to park inside the park you have to leave your vehicle at the guest check-in. An accommodation was made for me because I requested it because I'm handicapped and there was no way that I could have walked from the guest check in all the way to the swimming pool. At that time, we were not allowed to rent a golf cart. that was an inconvenience concern of mine. There is something there for everyone; it's incredible how they have grown, but there's some things that are just not the same, sadly.Food & drinks: The resort does have a food Snack Shack and also has a Little Neck Cafe with Hershey's ice cream inside.

Where to start Pros: When I m with my family we can have a good time regardless, but it should have been at a different campground.Cons: the golf cart rentals are so expensive (70 a day) but everybody gets them because limited parking around the campground for your vehicle. So bring bikes or something instead. The showers were so stinky and the drainage was so slow. Yuck. Bathrooms smelled constantly like cat pee mixed with diarrhea. Plus 4 shower stalls were out of order so we had to wait in line. The private beach is so gross with seaweed and dirty murky water- we drove to cape Charles city beach instead. Plus we witnessed 2 dogs poop in the water when dogs aren t even supposed to be in the beach. The kids playground has a broken slide and with all the money this campground takes in, it should be fixed!Lastly- the pools. SO DIRTY. There is actual debri floating everywhere, and the water is pure sweat and pee. No chemicals. Filled with thousands of campers.

The photos and amenities shown online were AMAZING; without a doubt, Sun had an amazing photographer! HOWEVER, you should not judge a book by its cover! Pictures can be misleading, and things are not always as they appear! Family campers, beware! Sun Outdoors Cape Charles was not at all what we expected, especially for the price! 50 amp runs $175+/night for muddy sites, literally a pond after rainy days. Astronomical! If you're more conservative, "family friendly" is an overstatement. There are pineapples and flamingos everywhere, LITERALLY! The middle of the campground looks like a tent city, and the cabins look like a flea market. If you're up for sharing sites, great! People have no respect and walk and/or drive through your site at all times. We witnessed camping neighbors squatting on two other sites. Literally, they took up empty campsites to enjoy party and playtime. No electric anything, except it's acceptable for underage teens to speed through the campground on personal golf carts, nearly plowing over children on bicycles. The staff were mediocre and not very helpful, nor friendly. Unlike other family campgrounds, there is no escort to your site, nor garbage or trash pick up. Literally, pieces of trash strewn everywhere! It's an every man for himself. The food prices were astronomical, and the prices are definitely higher since being bought by Sun. You pay a $50 resort fee to enjoy all amenities. The pool areas were staffed by "pool attendants" who remained heavily occupied by their phones. They missed things like our child who was bleeding from an object that sliced his foot open in the pool, a heavily intoxicated woman masterbating on the pool jet while children were playing behind her, and the numerous other intoxicated "families." Mind you, this is a "family friendly" environment. If you book, I hope you enjoy the experience! We will definitely NOT be back!Safety: Read review!Noteworthy details: Read review!

We had a great time while we were there 9-11 June 23. The campground was about 3/4 full. We had a rain on the first night and quite a bit of sewer smell until the second day. Sites are very nice and well appointed. Our Grandkids enjoyed the pool area.Nearby activities: Cape Charles Winery is close by and serves an excellent assortment of wines.

Our family has been coming here since the 90 s and you can really see the downward fall of what happens when a corporation takes control of a family run business. I don t blame the staff for not being able to thoroughly perform their jobs or being short with customers, they are simply overwhelmed and unappreciated on a day to day basis. It s disappointing because this was such a nice place/location. The pools were filthy, lots of disrepair throughout the facility, and trash everywhere. Campers could definitely be more mindful to be respectful to the facility also. You can read in a lot of past reviews that there has been a steady decline and I one hundred percent blame upper management and corporate for letting this place go. Our family will be moving on and going elsewhere.

This experience overall was not very enjoyable. First we were paid for a golf cart but the reservations got lost so we had to pay AGAIN for the golf cart but one of our friends also got a golf cart the same time and place and he had no problem. There was no refund that was given for the money we used for the lost reservation Then we set up our tents but then we got suggested to move to cabins due to strong winds/storms. We decided to pay for cabins so I do understand that mother nature comes into play in this situation. This was just sad since it was a last minute change in our stay Overall, the workers weren t very welcoming or accommodating and they made it seem like we were a bother due to us having to change locations it seemed as if they had a problem specifically for us people they specifically said to our only caucasian friend that was staying w us.. you seem to be the only one who knows what you re doing .. Everything was very stressful but the workers did not have to be impatient and disrespectful This stay was very disappointing

We stayed at Sun Outdoors in August 2023 and the welcome center people didn t welcome us, just said next person, gave us our papers and said to go to ranger station. Got to ranger station and they handed us a map and sent us on our way. Place was muddy and kids, bike and golf carts getting in our way. Got to site and barely and gravel to keep us from sinking in mud. We paid for a premium site! This place has no security and let s kids run everywhere and kid ride golf carts even though they have sign posted. Went to use port a potty at adult pool and they was running over from not being empty. The campground is a trash dump! It s a shame that Sun Outdoors would let their campground fall to such an unwelcoming place to camp. I will never return there!Safety: Very unsafe environment.

Overall I would not recommend this campground. We were very excited to try it because it was highly recommended by many people but were let down, only to find out new ownership seems to be the problem. It is a very nice location, and has many activities for everyone. Everything is kept relatively clean. Some of the sites are not laid out very well, and many quickly become mud puddles in the rain. The roads are not very well maintained. The staff is not friendly at all, except the one gentleman we met at the paddle boats. We had an especially rude one at the little neck cafe that caused us to avoid that place the rest of our trip. Certain rules are enforced more than others, and again the staff is not very kind when they do enforce the rules.

I have been coming to Cherry Stone Campgrounds since I was a child back in the 80 s and loved it. I Started coming here with my husband and children in 2017 and again amazing vacation. 2021 was the last year I could say the vacation was great. 2023 we rented a cabin that sleeps eight. When we arrived it was definitely not cleaned well. In my bedroom they re were ants crawling on the side of the mattress and on my husband and myself when we were sleeping. The cubbies to put our stuff in were all webbed from spiders. The floors weren t swept or mopped well at all. The manager then switched us to one of their new cabins which are really nice. Unfortunately we ended up having a leaky kitchen faucet to deal with all week. Maintenance men came out three times on different days to try to fix it. No luck every morning we woke up with a huge puddle of water on the floor soaking everything that was in its path. We used our towels to clean up the water not once, not twice, but three times leaving us running to do laundry more then what we wanted to do on vacation. We spent our last day in our cabin while they finally replaced the faucet which took up half of our last day. The manager just offered to reimbursed us some change from the laundry that we had to wash. She was cold and didn t seem to think our time that we spent doing towels and dealing with a leaky sink all week was an interruption in our vacation. She said you didn t have to stay there while they fixed the sink. They had to shut the water off to change the faucet. I had to go to the bathhouse to use the bathroom when we paid for a cabin to have the convenience of our own bathroom. This is definitely not the same as cherrystone campgrounds. You can really feel and see the difference in the ownership now that it has gone corporate. You now have lost 4 families. We willFind another campsite that appreciates our business.
