Fantastic family-oriented park and 100% stellar support from the staff. I was called prior to arriving and was informed because of my late arrival time, they leave packets for you with maps and instructions for staying and navigating the park. Very beautiful place, fantastic view of the mountains and Roanoke river. Really great walking paths and old-style museum-type buildings to see throughout. Great amenities, clean bathrooms and facilities. I wish I lived up there so I could visit more often. Very reccommended for families and children!

We had a great weekend at the Primitive campsites. The staff was welcoming and helpful, calling us ahead of time to see when we would be checking in to make sure they had the shuttle ready for us to take us and our gear to the campsite. They do have carts that you just pull on your own that you can use if you don t have a lot of gear or if you check in after hours, but we made sure to check in before they closed so we could use the shuttle (I over pack). We stayed at a one tent site & while it was roomy enough for one tent, we have a very large tent (10 person tent- I just like being comfortable, it s not really necessary), so just to make sure we have plenty of room to spread out next time, I may reserve one of the 2 tent sites. But if you have a 4-6 person tent, the one tent site should be more than enough room. The woods are beautiful, we can t wait to go back! Also, about the train, yes it is right by the primitive sites, but it wasn t too bad, definitely not something that would keep me from such a nice campground.

Great campground! They do a great job of managing the primitive areas. While you can't drive down to the sites they run shuttles to help you get your gear in and out. Some complain about the train that runs across the river but we didn't find it too annoying. I slept just fine! I would go back again and likely will.

It's my hommies! BMC is the place for local experiences in the mountains, community, fun, and making friends.Food is outstanding! Prices cheap. Art and music always great. Family fun for extremely reasonable prices.Something for everyone all year.
