My husband and I came here for a romantic getaway and it was AMAZING! Where do I even begin? The location was so beautiful and picturesque, and near lots of fun outdoor activities and charming towns! The room was pristine and luxurious! The staff was unbelievably welcoming, generous, warm, and accommodating! The food was absolutely scrumptious and delicious! In short, we've never felt more at home outside of our actual home! My husband and I definitely felt the love at Rabbit Hill Inn, and we will certainly be back to visit our new "home away from home" again and again! Thank you for a perfect trip!

This is a well appointed inn near St Johnsbury, VT. We booked a 2-night stay to take advantage of a discount offer of 20% on the room. We were extremely disappointed at check out when were advised that the discount only applied to online bookings. I began the booking online as a result of an email we received. Once online, there was a 'pop-up' with the telephone number to call. The email that I received nor the person that answered the telephone indicated that the discount ONLY applied to online bookings. BUYER BEWAREThe breakfast and pub service were great. The staff was efficient, engaging and attentive. Dinner was a completely different experience. The waiter took our order, delivered and opened a bottle of wine, and delivered our food. He was not interested in any conversation, did not check on us throughout the meal and did not offer to refill our wine glasses. Did not come close to meeting our expectations at a 'high-end' restaurant.Sadly the lack of customer care/experience means we will not book a return visit.Rooms: The rooms are well appointed and clean.Nearby activities: It is a short drive to St. Johnsbury which has museums, shops, dining and breweries.Safety: Safety was not a concern.Walkability: No where to walk. The inn sits at an intersection and there are farms all around.Food & drinks: The Pub food and drinks were great. The bartender/waiter was engaging and knowledgeable of the area. Good conversation amongst the guests at the pub.Noteworthy details: The Inn refused to apply the advertised room discount to our stay despite a number of phone calls. If discounts only apply online, that should be displayed on their website and staffed should be trained to convey this information.

My wife and I have been visiting the Rabbit Hill Inn for over 30 years. It has been a wonderful place to visit and enjoy the area. I am writing this review with some sadness. The Inn was not up to the quality we have always enjoyed under Brian and Leslie. The breakfast was average. I received an omelet with barely cooked eggs, a pancake dish with three tiny pancakes and French toast with just egg on the outside and dry bread on the inside. The wait staff was very inexperienced but tried hard. The regional director of inns, usually known as the inn keeper, did not even introduce herself or talk about the inn when we arrived. She is new to the area and had not ever been to New England until she took the job. The Stave puzzles, a favorite of the guests, were not being well maintained and ours had a missing piece. The afternoon pastries and tea were fine, but I would have liked to have been offered a coffee. Unfortunately almost all the old staff were gone, including Don, who was always a favorite. I understand that hiring is difficult but the Inn did not meet the standards that we have come to expect from a Select Registry Inn. My wife and I will not be visiting the Rabbit Hill Inn anytime soon.

First time at the Inn and it was wonderful. We re big travelers so we know good things and this is one of them. Just what we needed! Everyone was wonderful and eager to help. Our room was amazing! Breakfast was great not sure how they make those pancakes but it was the best I ve ever had. Hugo was very helpful when we checked in helping carry everything upstairs. He s a great bartender and super friendly! Mackenna was our waitress and was amazing, service was great. We ll definitely be back!

My wife and I recently enjoyed a six-day stay in the Nest Suite at the Rabbit Hill Inn. Absolutely everything about this place is superb. We were greeted so warmly (which was just what we needed) upon arriving from an arduous multi-hour drive through a snowstorm and the ensuing week was a pure delight. Their restaurant is excellent, both for breakfast and dinner (big thank you to Mackena, Dimitri, and Garrett on the waitstaff). The chef for the evening meals, Michelle, is very talented and everything we ate was delicious. The Snooty Fox, their little in-house bar, is charming and well stocked. The bartender, Hugo, is a really great guy and we very much enjoyed chatting with him while we sipped on some of his top notch cocktails (the bar food menu was also marvelous). The room itself was extremely comfortable and well-appointed. We were very well taken care of by Mel, the housekeeper. Kat and Sammy, who work on the management side, were so friendly and attentive. They made us feel very welcome and ensured that we were always comfortable. We really couldn t have asked for a more enjoyable winter vacation. If you are looking for a quiet and luxurious retreat in the gorgeous countryside of Vermont, do yourself a huge favor and stay at the Rabbit Hill Inn.

I'll start by saying they have new owners/management in the last few months, and while this was our first time there, they were absolutely stupendous and for any repeaters worried about the quality with the new owners, I'd have zero hesitation at booking here.We stayed four nights in the Jonathan Cummins suite and it was amazing. The service from all the employees was by far the greatest part about this stay, as they went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we could possibly want on the trip.We were there during a good snow, so we all agreed to have a lot of the staff stay home, as it was just my wife and I for the night at the inn (others cancelled/postponed with the storm inbound). The staff that did remain saw to our every need when it came to dining, drinking, and entertainment for the night. They truly wanted to make sure you had the best time possible. The food in the restaurant was great, I particularly loved the lamb. The chef has created a great menu that spans many different cuisines (vegetarian, beef, lamb, chicken, fish) while using different flavors from around the world for each.We will 100% be coming back to the Rabbit Hill Inn, as it provided a nice sanctuary in a beautiful location, where we didn't have to worry about anything at all!Special shout out to Kat and Sandi (sorry if I misspelled those) for making the trip extra great. Sandi was the one who stayed back during the storm and went above and beyond working all the positions to make our night great, and Kat was so pleasant and willing to make the experience extra special. She hasn t been in the area long, but you can tell her excitement to not only run a fantastic in, but also to live and learn as much about the area as possible. Again, you could truly feel the care from everyone, but those two made it extra special for us.

Our 1st time at the RH Inn with another couple that have been staying there 35 years and it was fantastic!!!The rooms are beautiful, charming, and spacious. The very personal staff made our stay super memorable. The managers and innkeepers were super focused on taking care of us. We felt like there was almost nothing they wouldn t do to make sure we enjoyed our stay. Breakfasts and dinners were gourmet delights. They chef went out of the way with GF options for one of our party. I could go on and on but will let you find out for yourself!Rooms: I think they all have fireplaces and it s super romantic. Most rooms have antiques and early American pieces.Great views of the hills and town.Nearby activities: We skied 30 minutes away at Bretton Woods. Close to North Conway shopping.Safety: Locking doors felt optional.Walkability: Lots of trails off from the setting of the center of a sleepy town.Food & drinks: Hugo, one of the managers tended bar and made excellent drinks.Noteworthy details: Most of the rooms have authentic period antiques with nice views of Northern Kingdom landscapes

Just recently celebrated an anniversary at the Rabbit Hill Inn and it was really lovely. The "Above the Tavern" room was very spacious and the bed was crazy comfortable. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was amazing. The pastries alone are worth the trip :) The hotel is in a quiet area but close enough to hiking and outdoor activities. Highly recommend for a special weekend away.Rooms: spacious, clean, nicely appointed, soft comfortable bed and many, many pillowsFood & drinks: Delicious food - pastries, buffet, breakfast and dinner all fantastic.

My wife and I first visited Rabbit Hill Inn in September 2016. The previous owners Brian and Leslie were such great host we returned in September/October every year except 2020. We knew the Inn had sold but still made our annual trip to Rabbit Hill October 1 - 5 of this year. We figured the experience would not be the same and this was true. The personal touch and the little things that made Brian and Leslie so successful are gone. Meeting you when you checked to say hi and to see if you needed anything. My wife has food allergies which they were aware of without reminding and always had options available at both breakfast and dinner. Their knowledge of places to go, things to see and do. Chatting with Brian at the Pub. Leslie checking on us at every breakfast and dinner to see if all is well. All of this is no longer. The Sterling room was as nice as it is each year we stay there. The restaruant was good but not as good as when Andrew was there. No one knew of my wifes food allergy even though we have stayed at the inn many times nor did they go out of their way to provide options once we informed them. Most of the staff were either new or temporary during our visit. All of them were extremely nice but were so overwhelmed they could not provide a great experience. After all of this, we would still probably have returned again next year because we have stayed there so many times, love the location and the puzzles. We will not though and the reason is the price of the room for 2024. Our room price this year was $379.00 per night. I expected the new owners to raise this price if for no other reason than effects of the current inflation rate. Raise it they did. The rate for the Sterling room in October 2024 is $659.00 a night. A 74% increase. Not sure how they came up with this number and best of luck on getting someone to pay. I will not. There is no way the experience or the service, especially the new one can justify it. So after 7 years of staying at the inn each fall it appears 2023 will be our last. All good things must pass.

Beautiful old home! My wife and I stayed in the Jonathan Cummings Suite. It was quite large with a screened, private balcony. Bed was comfortable. Be aware though that this suite and some rooms are on the second and third floor. They do not have an elevator. However, they immediately had staff help us with luggage. While there we ate at their restaurant, 24 Carrot. Food was good, service was friendly and good. The next morning we had breakfast which was well worth it. Again service was great. Their small in-house bar, Snooty Fox was fun and comfortable. My wife and I worked on one of the house puzzles and enjoyed a few drinks. To be honest, their was a hiccup with our drinks which they immediately recognized and fixed. We had no complaints with their service or staff. The downside to our stay had to do with other, entitled guests. The Staff were forced by other guests to ask me to relinquish the solitary handicapped parking spot so that they could park immediately in front of their room. This other couple went so far as to block my car and threatened to not move it until late the next morning. The staff at Rabbit Hill Inn did the best they could with a difficult situation, sending chocolate truffles to our room after the situation. To be fair, this had nothing to do with the inn other than an opportunity to shine. The young lady who came and spoke with me was quite literally in tears dealing with this.We would love to visit again! I can highly recommend Rabbit Hill Inn!

Very relaxing time! No TV, beautiful room, excellent service, superb food. Rabbit Hill Inn is a billboard for real Vermont hospitality! We stayed there on our honeymoon 43 years ago, this stay was just as memorable!!Rooms: Luxurious, comfortable, nice fireplace, jacuzzi tub, two person shower. Must I say more?Food & drinks: Gourmet dinner meal and awesome breakfast each morning.Noteworthy details: Very attentive to details that make your stay perfect.

Years ago, I told my husband this was my dream long weekend spot. Unfortunately it was bought by a hotel chain. Still keeping its bed and breakfast vibe but it is no longer individually owned. It was nice. Nothing blew me away. The food was good. Not great. Service was weird... The staff didn't seem comfortable. We have had better stays at other bed and breakfasts. Unfortunately, we won't be returning because it just wasn't worth it and I was hoping for more

We booked at RHI as this was a half way point between home and our vacation destination and reviews looked good. Katayoon was lovely and very welcoming. We stayed in the Nest and while it was very clean and roomy, for the price, the worn wicker furniture could be updated. The nest would be better in the warmer weather as there is a nice deck facing the back of the Inn. Dinners were excellent as were both of our servers, Max and a female (sorry, can't recall her name). However, we were not offered an itemized bill nor were we told there would be an automatic 20% added for tip. Instead we were asked what room we were staying in and given a total dinner cost (emailed to us about 2 hours after we left for home). At this point, we were left to add up in our heads what we think we spent and decided it was in the ballpark. I would have liked to see the bill itemized and with only two people, allowed to decide on our own tip (we would have done more than 20% for Max). There were several repeat guests that we talked to and if you like the area, the RHI could be for you. We enjoyed our stay but most likely would not return. For what we spent, we feel we could have done better.

We found this place just googling. We decided to go to dinner and to stay in a room so we could have drinks and wouldnt have to drive home. But tonight there is no bartender so no mixed drinks. My halibut was coated with a 1/4 inch crust of some kind of sugar salt crust and completely overcooked and very chewy. I believe with a portion of chopped nuts (also maybe w rice) and vegetables and a pile of something citrusy. My partners lions mane vegan steak came with several small bits of lions mane and mostly other mushrooms, My carrot cheesecake glace was frozen hard solid. (which they took off they bill). Also of question the Rabbit Hill Inn says on their website that tipping is not necessary. What does that mean when the tab comes with a line to enter a gratuity, and there is an envelope beside the bed for a gratuity for housekeeping. This is very confusing. Was our server expecting or depending on a gratuity from us? Hard to know what to do here. This was a very disappointing experience.

Unfortunately, we were not thrilled with our experience. I was looking forward to the quintessential B&B charm we have experienced in the past and it was clearly missing. Wish we would have visited prior to the change in management, as it appears from the reviews that is when we may have enjoyed it more. Staff was trying, but missed mark and it felt uncomfortable to us. Meals were mediocre and waitstaff was inexperienced. I had called a day prior to ask with help on booking horseback riding. Phone was not answered, voice mail box full. I then completed an online inquiry form about this in hopes of getting a response from someone, and it was not acknowledged or addressed. On a positive, the bed was comfortable and sheets were spectacular. But for $400+ a night it just was not worth it to us and we regretted not staying at the Omni/Mt. Washington instead.

Stayed at RHI for our 36 wedding anniversary. We thoroughly enjoyed the warmth of all the staff our room was great and the food outstanding. The Executive Chef, Michelle, is so very talented. She took the time to speak with us about our meals and she is friendly and has a great sense of humor. Ben is super friendly and went above and beyond to make our stay memorable we will return to the Rabbit Hill Inn!

Rabbit Hill Inn in Lower Waterford, VT was built in 1795. This is a very historic inn, has comfortable rooms, lots of charm & great food! We had the opportunity to meet one of the owners, Ben. He was very hospitable and engaged in the inn. Kate was one of the Inn Assistants and she was sweet. We also met the head chef, Michelle. She and her staff make delicious dishes. We enjoyed the breakfasts & very tasty pastries!! They have dinner at 24 Carrot on-site, but we did not partake of that. One of the common areas has a bar. Sit in the Parlor to put together a puzzle, enjoy morning coffee/ tea, afternoon snacks or look through a photo book to live the history. It was nice to visit with the other guests in these common areas. We highly recommend staying at The Rabbit Hill Inn if you re in Lower Waterford, VT. Accessible to Littleton, NH for a quaint downtown feel, and beautiful hiking in Franconia Notch.

We were looking forward to staying at this property based on all of the awards and reviews we had read about. Unfortunately this inn did not live up to it's reviews. The property is very nice and well maintained. The disappointment was the lack of staff and service that we received. We found out from the temporary inn keeper, Kelly that she was a fill in until the new inn keeper arrived in early November. Kelly was brought in from Nevada so she was not knowledgable about the Vermont area. Kelly was also over whelmed with all of her responsibilites that she was unable to engage with her guests. The breakfasts are included in your room rate. There is a small buffet with with fresh fruit, yogurt and fresh baked goods and two hot breakfast options. This was the highlight of the inn. It was delicious although once again under staffed. After our first day out we returned to our room which was not serviced. My husband asked about it and was told they only service it every three days. Another sign of being under staffed. We asked for them to replace our towels, which they did. In previous comments, we read about their plush towels, this was not the case for us. On our final night at The Rabbit Hill Inn, we had a reservation at the restaurant. We had a late reservation so by the time we arrived 3 of the 11 items on the menu were no longer available. We shared with the manager on duty our disappointment in this and she asked if we wanted to talk to the chef about it. We did not think that would be helpful since they were out of items. During this meal, we heard the one waiter tell another table how there is usually 1 server per 12 tables but that night he had 30 tables by himself. It was not his fault and he did a good job for the situation he was in. We appreciated how he was trying to make it right. When you stay at the Rabbit Hill Inn, they do not allow tipping but add a 20% service charge on your food and drink bills. I never mind paying for service but with lack of service, I don't feel it is justified. I would not recommend this Inn until they get their new innkeeper on board and they have had time hire and train staff. I think they have lost any good things they had going when they received their awards.

Returning to Rabbit Hill Inn after my amazing experience in 2019 with Leslie and Brian was for the most part wonderful. Kelly, the acting innkeeper, welcomed us and explained the new innkeeper would start in November. She led us to Carriage Corner, where a mini fridge had already been placed per my request. Lovely music filled the air and it was so easy to bring our luggage in as it was right next to the parking lot. I didn't make time to sit in the cushioned patio chairs but it's a lovely place to read while enjoying the peaceful surroundings. The room itself was spacious and comfortable. We had reserved dinners for both nights and immensely enjoyed our meals as well as after dinner drinks while working on a Stave puzzle. Those are so addicting! Breakfasts were delicious and I enjoyed eggs benedict the first morning, and indulged in pancakes and bacon the second morning (they aren't kidding about the syrup! Yum!). Also included is a small buffet table with pastries, fruit, yogurt and berry compote (don't skip the compote! So good!).I have to give Rabbit Hill 4 stars vs 5 as some personal touches were missing. Management, please consider the following: Have a simple hand written welcome greeting placed on the bed with the names of the guests. The dinner reservation card reminder is a nice touch but ours was written with our last names which felt impersonal. Include a small welcome gift you can hang from the doorknob on the first night to surprise the guests returning from dinner. Bring back turn down service, it was a joy to see the rabbit stuffies placed in different areas of the room when I first visited. Include a small recycle container in each room. Respond to emails within 24 hours; I wrote 3 different emails before my arrival and only received a response to one which had no signature line so I have no idea who wrote back to me. I ended up having to call to ask my questions. Get rid of the hard to read welcome photo copied note and instead use nice stock paper with an easier to read font and have the current innkeeper sign their name vs having it all photocopied. Ken was still on our note who i assume no longer works there.Hopefully soon Rabbit Hill will fill their various positions permanently. Luckily a bartender was available to us both nights, albeit different temporary fill inns. Everyone we spoke to, guests and staff alike, were incredibly kind and friendly. We even had lengthy conversations both nights with a gentleman who's been coming to Rabbit Hill for 20 (or was it 30?) years! Future guests, don't fret, Rabbit Hill is still charming and lovely and hopefully management will take our constructive feedback/recommendations to bring the heart and soul back into the Inn. With that said, 2024 room prices have increased by 74%. Carriage Corner was priced at $379 when I made my reservation in 2022 for my 2023 October trip. It's now priced at $659/night for the same timeframe in October 2024. While I understand an increase of prices due to inflation, etc, this seems quite excessive. The cheapest room is listed at $599/night for October 2024. Personally, I can't justify spending that kind of money and will have to seek other lodging for future visits to Vermont.

My wife and I had the pleasure of spending 3 nights at the Rabbit Hole Inn this July. The Inn itself was beautiful and the accommodations were excellent. The unexpected bonus was our dining experience. The Inn opened a new in-house restaurant called "24 Carrot". We met the executive chef Michelle. If you are a foodie you will be in heaven. She is a brilliant chef who isn't scared to take chances and make some awesome "funky" dishes. Each evening we had an appetizer, main course and dessert. Her dishes were creative, flavorful, and prepared to perfection with the freshest of ingredients. The details in the dishes really stood out. Michelle's use of volcanic salt from Hawaii on the butter as well as the lime pods used for taste and texture on the sea bass was pretty cool. Overall we were able to sample all the dishes and each meal was better than the last. Thank you for the memorable experience. We can't wait to return to the Inn.

Spent my mini-honeymoon at Rabbit Hill this last August. We were so excited to go based on all of the reviews we had read. Just before we got there it had been sold to a new owner who is connected to a larger corporation. When you go to that website it s all about maximizing the dollar and it s clear that their values are not with the customer. Sadly, it was apparent in our stay. The whole staff were stressed out for the four nights we stayed there. They all were visibly tense and running around dealing with crises that were coming up under new management. I felt for them, it s never fun witnessing a clearly unpleasant work environment. We stayed in a Superior Room, the Canopy. It was lovely! Very roomy and I appreciated the sitting area by the fire. The mattress was pretty hard and we were waking up with aches (we re only 30 for what it is worth), but no complaints on the sheets. Wifi signal was good and the antiques in the room make it really special. There s even a book left out to be a room diary where people who stayed in that room can share how much they enjoyed their visit. It goes back a few years, and this place was so obviously beloved and must have been so magical. It was rather bittersweet to realize that we had come too late to experience that. The dining was incredibly strange and almost upsetting. Their restaurant which is touted as rather gourmet is in their sparse dining room. There is nothing wrong with the room for breakfast - it s just hard to swallow spending over $200 for dinner in what feels like a Holiday Inn continental breakfast space. If the food had been better, I d probably have waved away any concerns over appearance. My steak was cooked really well but everything else was such a miss. Many of the issues crossed over into the complimentary breakfasts the next few mornings. Everything is a bit too showy and experimental without having real substance. There are ornamental flowers everywhere with twists on classics that just don t work. Ordered the carrot cheesecake and it came in a frozen square of carrot dairy that was both not easy to eat nor was it actually a good texture or taste. I love avant garde but only when it tastes as interesting as it looks. We went to the Littleton Dinner one morning just desperate for normal pancakes and maple syrup instead of a rolled up pancake trying to be a crepe. If you ve made it to the end of this probably too detailed review, I ll let you know the reason I d consider coming back. The Stave puzzles. I m not even a puzzle person but I became addicted to these. It was so fun to do it with my husband, and we tore through six of them over our weekend. They are SO expensive to buy and usually only are provided in five-star resorts for the ultra wealthy. Stave puzzles are made in Vermont, and the company found Rabbit Hill so charming they cut a deal with them to provide puzzles for rooms. I m nervous that the deal may not stick around given how things are going, so if you are coming for the beast deal on Stave puzzles in this country I d really double check that they re still doing it!

Spent a long weekend at Rabbit Hill Inn with my wife. The Inn exceeded our expectations with a beautiful room and a helpful and friendly staff. When not exploring the localarea, we spent time in our room enjoying several of the challenging Stave puzzles available for the guests. The highlight of the trip though was the fantastic meals prepared by chef Michelle Gomez at the 24 Carrot restaurant. Michelle is a talented and friendly young chef who served delicious and beautifully plated food. The entrees we had were the rack of lamb, halibut, filet of beef, and Caprese Ravioli. All were cooked to perfection. The deserts were also fantastic. We highly recommend this restaurant and are already looking forward to our next visit.

October 2023 Edited ReviewWe have been coming to this Rabbit Hill Inn for over 32 years. And in the past I have given great reviews this review is not my favorite!Rabbit Hill Inn is still a great place. However, the new ownership needs to remedy some issues to achieve the exceptional quality of the past. This is especially necessary if they want to command the nearly 60% increase in room rates. The primary issue is staffing and consistency. This is the second time we have been to this place (5 months span) since the new ownership has taken over. The staff was completely different; and there was no bartender, a lot of staff, and no one knew their jobs. Furthermore, the staff were imports that did not know the area of the facility.Greeting guests and asking them to direct you to your room is a bad sign There were bright spots with two hostesses and a waitress during our stay. They were from the area and were very friendly and knowledgeable about the Inn and history and surrounding area. This is something that the new management needs to concentrate on is having people from the region to staff the facility! The meals were excellent and up to the quality of the inn s standard. There were a few delays and missed steps of a new staff. Please ensure you know where the pepper mill is (I knew where it was). Soup spoons and steak knives should be on the table before the meal is served. That also goes for the maple syrup before the pancakes. Not a big thing for me, but the absence of a bartender is not a good look, and the staff had to apologize for the absence, only were serving beer and wine. The rooms are exquisite, well kept, and have all the charm you expect from a Vermont Inn in a magnificent setting. We will be going again in June. We hope to see improvement worthy of the in and the room rate increase. I will give it four stars, but this is hopeful, as we want this place to be in our memories and future.

My husband and I just spent an incredible long weekend away here. The amenities, the delicious food, and above all the top notch service. All of the above contributed to a truly wonderful romantic weekend away. The Inn has the most delicious breakfast and dinners. Every plate of each meal is thoughtfully prepared with extra details in mind. The presentation, the friendly staff, the rooms so thoughtfully include everything you need. We stayed in the Jonathan Cummings Luxury suite and it was so large! We felt like we had total privacy in our room, but enjoyed chatting with other guests in the shared spaces. Most importantly, we played lots of games which was such a nice break from binging TV shows as we usually do. I really can t say enough positive things about RHI. We can t wait to book again! Thank you to all of the staff for a memorable long weekend getaway, we will never forget how special this place is!
