After I had them flush my transmission it started leaking and they wouldn t take responsibility and fix it. They said it s because they filled it up all the way and the leak must have already there when they most likely overfilled it. Would not recommend.

The owner Jim is NOT personable with people at all. I've brought a vehicle here a couple different times. Always seems to make me feel like he wants to push me away and not accept my business. Recently tried taking my car in for a noise that was happening. It sits at his shop for 5 days, doesn't call to notify anyone with an update. Quite ridiculous Jim if you're going to run a business you NEED to do better. I always feel like Jim barely has a clue what's going on in his shop. If it wasn't for having a warranty I wouldn't be coming back.

Excellent service here. In 2020, Jim (and Co.) installed a high performance clutch system in my Tacoma. They did a fantastic job, and the parts worked as expected. When it was time to change out the parts they again performed the work, just as well! Prices are fair, and an excellent value for the quality of work! Thanks Jim!Service: Transmission

I have the worst experience with the location in Sandy UT. First problem I was told 3000.00 turns out to be 7100.00 (2) $25 per quart of oil $300. (3) have my truck for 4 weeks and when I call I get same f^%$&% answer. "WAITING ON PART" every time f%$#@ time. I had to refinance my truck to pay this outrageous amount but guess what they have my truck still so i also have not even made first payment on the new loan. I am a business owner as well but after this I don't know for how long. Losing customers every day now. If there is a lawyer that thinks I can win I would love to sue this company . By the way I have already paid the bill and no truck still. I hope for the Tanners sake I have no problems with it when I finally "GET THE PART" and get it backService: Transmission

Very satisfied with the work at Tanner Transmission. They diagnosed and fixed my Chrysler town and country minivan. I had previously taken my vehicle to a general mechanic and they were not able to complete the work in a timely manner. I was surprised that the cost was nearly the same for a transmission professional.Service: TransmissionService: Transmission

I would not recommend Tanner transmission to my enemies. We had a transmission done here we took back several times to have fixed and it still leaks. Can never get the vehicle in and when I did they told me I had exhaust problem took it to a muffler shop and nothing was wrong. They told me it was a transmission problem so here I am trying to get it back to them. We have decided at this point to go somewhere else and just replace with a new one since the one they rebuilt is trash.

Posting what happened to our friend with this company! Beware!!!"I want to gently , just to save my own dignity, alert my friends and family what to do or not do if you need transmission repairs of any kind. First of all, make sure you check out reviews on the company you are planning to go to, such as Tanner Transmission . I wish I had! What should have been possibly 2 parts costing around $1000 ended up being a rebuilt transmission, do to their mistake, costing in the end $7000. They had our truck for 9 months waiting for a part. Our truck came back with dents, scratches, and a tail light broken. They didn t even have the decency to tell us about any of it. To save you time, money, and a lot of stress, please think twice before going there. They are incompetent, unreliable, and dishonest. Just sayin "

Tanner got my van done and back tome good as new in 10 days. We were very happy with the service. That he didn't try quoting us from the gate as he said it could be a 30 dollar fix or a 5000 dollar fix. But we gotta look at it to know. The warranty included is amazing. So far so good.Service: TransmissionService: Transmission

Worst experience I have ever had!!!! No communication. No timely service and no negotiation. Was told in October 2022 that it would only be 2 weeks well its now May 2023 and I'm barely getting my vehicle back. Does it work? I have no clue I'm loading it up on a trailer and getting rid of it. Worst place to ever take your car too. If you want to know more about my experience please don't hesitate to ask.Service: Transmission

I'd be really careful about using this business. When my transmission went out, I barely was able to hobble it into his lot for him to take a look at. After his quote, I decided not to have the work done, but the vehicle was at this point immobile, so I needed to have it towed. Before the tow truck arrived, he called the police on me saying that since I'm now not his customer, he needed me gone from his lot. It took some negotiating with the police to not have my vehicle impounded before my tow arrived. I'd strongly consider whether this is the disposition of someone I wanted to do business with.Service: Transmission

I took my Truck to Tanner Transmission and overall had a great experience. My Dodge truck was experiencing limp mode and not shifting from 2nd to 3rd and knew I needed to see a transmission specialist. When I took my Truck to Tanner, Jim helped me throughout the whole process and I never had any issue with communication or delays. My transmission needed to be rebuild which took about two weeks total for the rebuild and install. I knew going in that this was going to be expensive and take time and Jim was able to get me a fair price and get everything done in a reasonable timeframe. Since the rebuild my truck has been performing better and feels stronger! Jim fully explained the warranty to me which is for 5 years. Some of the reviews I can t speak to but my experience was great and would definitely recommend going to Tanner Transmission on 9000s.

Very dishonest! Doesn t deserve not even one star.We left our car there to see what the problem was. The price to fix it came out way too high, and we decided to take to another place. When we came to get the car, the key was locked inside he car. At first he said he would open it because he had the tools to do it, then after one week with no response, he said it was not his fault and refused to take responsibility for it. This man Jim, the owner, kept passing the blame on us !!We had to hire a locksmith and pay $175 to open the car. This business took no accountability for their mistake.Absolutely not a trustworthy kind of business.

Biggest scam shop I ve ever been too! Took in my truck paid 3500$ for what they said was I needed a new trans so I paid. I took it for a drive and still was having issues like torque converter lockup issues and no 4th gear at all! I took it back asked them to fix it and they proceeded to tell me it s in the wiring harness but won t touch it unless pay more. They should have done more research instead of tell me I need a new transmission because even after the new one still has the same issues as before!! Please please stay away from them!!!!Service: Transmission

Fixed my transmission way cheaper than what shops were trying. Other shops were trying to make me replace the transmission for $8000. They simply repaired it for $2800. 2nd time I went in for a regular check up on the transmission, They were able to fix my other issues on my car which was replacing the wheel bearings. 1 shop stated it was an alignment issue that didn't fix the problem. Dealership said it was tires. That didn't fix the problem. $$700 wasted. Jim and his Crew at Tanner were able to actually look at it and accurately diagnose it thus fixing my problem.Highly recommend them and prefer them over these nice fancy shops and dealerships.

My car was struggling with automatic shifting and Big O recommended I go to Tanner instead of the dealer. They were helpful and fixed the problem for much less than the dealer was asking. They were friendly and kind. Because of shipping delays for parts it took some time but it was worth the attention to detail when it came to fixing. They also were so helpful with ensuring I followed up to keep the warranty.Service: Transmission

Transmission seems to work flawlessly, however communication and customer service please much to be desired. I was notified my vehicle had been completed when I had made arrangements to have my vehicle picked up from the shop I was informed that it was not my vehicle in fact it was ready but somebody else s. When I called the following week to check the progress of my transmission rebuild I was informed that they were still waiting on parts. The entire process from start to finish took just under a month to complete. My information was incorrect as far as my name and contact information and there were multiple errors and typos on my paperwork.Service: Transmission

We were traveling through the Salt Lake City area with our fifth wheel travel trailer when the transmission on our tow vehicle experienced problems; not shifting correctly, excessive engine rpm, etc. I called Tanner Transmissions Sandy Utah location, the owner/manager told me to bring it in and he would check it out and do what was necessary to get us back on the road. He found us a place to park the fifth wheel, checked the tow vehicle and told us the transmission needed to be rebuilt. (Which I had suspected would be the case). By the end of the day, the transmission was out of the vehicle and to their rebuild shop. Within three days the transmission was rebuilt and back at the shop by the end of the day. They started the reinstall on a Saturday morning. (The shop closes as noon on Saturday). The owner/manager test drove the vehicle early afternoon Monday, and said while the transmission was working correctly, it was heating up too quickly for his satisfaction. They had a used, much larger transmission oil cooler that they then installed at no extra charge. This solved the heating issue and we were able to complete our trip with no issues. (The daytime temperatures at this time were in the upper 90s to low 100s). In 40+ years of towing trailers, I have experienced other transmission issues, it has always been much longer than the six days we experienced at Tanner Transmissions. While I'm not certain, I believe they took our tow vehicle in ahead of other scheduled work so we could get back on the road. We are extremely pleased with the service and professionalism at Tanner Transmission's Sandy, UT location. I would highly recommend Tanner Transmission.Service: Transmission

They got my transmission rebuilt within a week and gave me a better warranty on it then I got from the dealership. Five years or 100,000 miles. That s pretty impressive. It drives just like a brand new transmission now.

They rebuilt the transmission to my Ford F250 back in 2010. I went in today to have the annual inspection done. Jim was very professional and helpful. I have gone there annually since 2010 and have always been treated well. I would recommend their services to anyone. They stand behind their work. It was a delight to work with Jim today.Service: Transmission

I was told to contact Tanner Transmissions when I had trouble with my car. I do not have any experience in dealing with these type of car issues so when Jim took my car for a test drive with me and told me that my transmission was the problem and it was slipping in first gear. He then looked under the hood and came to me and said he would do some research but estimated it would be around $2400 and would call me the next day with an estimate. After a week went by and never hearing back from Jim the dealership I had purchased the vehicle from decided to contact Tanner Transmissions to get some information about the diagnosis he had given me about my car. That is when the dealership was told by Jims coworker that they never diagnosed my car or gave me any information about that at all and only drove it around and never opened to a hood at all. Thanks Jim and Tanner Transmissions for reminding me that you can t trust people.

Blaine, please go through your records and your recorded phone calls that you don't inform people of. You have no authorization from me, your brother Jim wasn't able to find any (Do I get a refund if you can't find my authorization?) and then threatened to hold my truck after I'd paid. (Yet another illegal thing) I've spoken to a lawyer, you're not worth the money. It would just be throwing more money after a crooked company with dirty practices. (Updated July 9, 2018, after a response from your company that took over a year to formulate)Well, this has probably been my worst auto repair experience ever. I brought my truck in and got their 400+ diagnostic. In 2 days I got a call saying it was going to be 5500 and that they'd started work already because the parts in the transmission were so bad they couldn't put it back together. After much arguing I eventually paid their price. It's now 4 months later and my truck won't go in reverse or forward. So the super nice rebuild didn't last 4 months. I've pulled 2 empty flat bed trailers with this rebuilt transmission so maybe 1000 lbs. I haven't pushed the truck at all it's mainly a commuting vehicle. When it broke I was driving home from work came to a stop light then couldn't move. When I pressed on the gas I started rolling backwards, not the best thing to have happen in an automatic. I'm not impressed and I'm highly dissatisfied.

I spent well over $3,000 getting my 1997 Suburban transmission rebuilt at the Sandy location. While the transmission itself worked ok after the work, there were numerous leaks that appeared almost immediately. I don't live near a Tanner location, so I took it to a local repair shop I have used reliably for years, for inspection. They discovered a leak in the transmission cooler lines, which were not covered under Tanner warranty. Had the cooler and lines replaced. Transmission still leaked from rear seal area.Took the vehicle to Tanner's Ogden location. They told me leak was due to u-joint replacement that was recently done and would not be covered. Tear apart of transmission was required to re-evaluate for another $600.The shop that did the u-joint repair assured me that it was done correctly. No vibration or other issue with drive shaft or u-joints.Stuck between two shops. I trust the local repair shop, having had multiple repairs there done over 20+ years. Tanner Transmissions - - not so much. And the fact that Tanner would rebuild my transmission without at least advising me to replace the cooler/lines is puzzling to say the least. I have put less than 5,000 miles on the vehicle since the transmission rebuild (don't drive it other than for occasional towing - - 189K miles on a 22 year old vehicle). As Tanner will not honor their warranty, and I have no energy to pursue this further, I have gotten rid of the Suburban. Very disappointed in how I was treated. If you are considering doing business here, be VERY cautious.
