I brought my 1980 FJ40 in to Ross at Tip Top Transmission for work on my transfer case, transmission, engine and carb, suspension, steering, electrical and other small needs. It was a big job and they handled it great. Ross, Mike and their crew did an amazing job making sure I got exactly what I wanted. They maintained keeping the costs down by doing what was needed to my FJ while ensuring we stuck to OEM guidelines as much as possible. Ross kept me updated and was always upfront and honest as he kept to our plan of how we would get my FJ back on the road. She runs great now, smooth as she could be. I would recommend Tip Top Transmission to anyone who has ANY auto needs. These guys are solid.

I've taken my 2005 diesel van here many times. The initial discussion was to bullet proof but after some much needed repairs, the van has been running great with no issues and currently no need to bullet proof. Ross and the team are very professional, responsive, and transparent with timing and price. They've never tried to upsell me or offer services that aren't needed. I will continue to bring my van here and refer people as much as I can!

I had recently bought a torque converter from a different company that had prematurely failed, and was denied help to get it replaced or rebuilt. I spoke with Mike at Tip Top and agreed to drop it off to be rebuilt. He discovered that the parts are not interchangeable and went through the hassle of buying the correct parts from the manufacturer, and within a day of receiving the parts, had it back together and ready to go. I brought my Subaru in because the transmission was having problems. After evaluating, Ross called me and we discussed my options. We decided to replace the transmission. He was very thorough in describing the issues and my options. He never pressured me but he advised me. I went back to TTT and Ross when my engine started having issues. Ross and team once again saved the day. With new spark plugs and a few other adjustments, my beloved Subaru was running like new. Recently, I brought my daughters car into Ross, and he checked out a bunch of issues. He called me and was very honest about the situation. He suggested we not waste our money trying to patch this car back together. Some mechanics would probably have done some work on it even though it's a lost cause. Ross, suggested that it would be best not to spend our money on this car. Ross with Tip Top transmissions is the best mechanic I ve ever dealt with. He quickly diagnosed the issue with my Subaru, gave me multiple repair options, helped me look at replacement used cars, and never pressured me into anything. They can do anything from helping stay on top of maintenance to engine repair. Highly recommend

This place is simply the best! They very quickly found time for us, helped us find parts that are not even a available in the US or Canada, found us a hotel and a rental car for the time we had to wait, helped us sort everything out and were always kind. Took my 2005 F-150 with (300K+ miles) in for service when it started hesitating during acceleration thinking it was the transmission. I left it with Ross and his Team of (real) mechanics. About a week later Ross called me to let me know they had finally tracked down the real problem after extensive testing and troubleshooting - a cracked spark plug on the #7 cylinder. That blew me away! Wasn't the trans after all. I had them replace all the spark plugs (which is a beast on the 5.4L Triton), replace the fuel & air filter, and give it an oil change with full synthetic Valvoline. Ended up costing me a fraction of what I was expecting and I have driven the truck hard for two weeks with zero issues. They really fixed it! I can't say enough about the good communication, expertise, and integrity of these guys. Ross and his Team are awesome! I will definitely use them again because they do a LOT more than just transmissions. Tip top was referred to us as one of the best transmission repair places in the area. We had a very challenging repair issue and they were very busy. Even being that busy they didn t hesitate to do what they could for us. They were very upfront w us and it was clear they were not going to nickel and dime us. They finally had a chance to look at the vehicle and gave me a very frank diagnosis and opinion that saved us a lot of money. In the end, it did not make sense to do the repair and Russ and Mike weren t about to charge us for their time or help. I will definitely be using them w any repair in their specialty going forward.Service: Transmission

On my way home on the freeway, I noticed a change in how my steering was responding. I took the first exit available and pulled over. Sure enough, my tire was flat. I was lucky enough to be about 1/2 mile away from this place. I walked over and they were nice enough to drive over to my car to fill the tire so I could drive it over to their shop. AND they put my donut tire on for me all for NO COST. Thank you Mike & Nik! You all there truly were angels for me that day!

I am very particular about my dodge Cummins pickup and always do my own work, transmission work is another story. But I trusted Joey with my truck and couldn't be happier with the outcome. My truck drives better than new and towing is no longer a pain. I would recommend Tip Top to anyone needing work done.

Over the years I have had my fare share of needed diagnostic and auto repairs with most my vehicles. I have had good experiences as well as bad. Tip Top Transmission is the first to perform above and beyond, stellar service! Ross whom helped me kept me informed every step of the way. I felt that my vehicle was in good hands. Everything was transparent with no up-sell or over exaggeration of what needed to be done, cost/price was more than reasonable. Tip Top is a great place to work with. Sadly we brought in our car during a time when supplies were hard to come by so it took longer than expected. Not their fault. I worked with Ross who was always helpful and informative. Prices were better than anywhere else I checked. Best part is that the car was repaired and runs great. I think my only complaint was they charge 3% to use a credit card at transmission costs I think use of CCs are expected. But again, I checked multiple places in the area for replacement service and Tip Top couldn t be beat with prices or speed of repairs. Talk to Ross when you get there.

Went here for a second opinion on a transmission repair. They were completely straightforward and honest with every aspect of inspection and repair. They charge a little bit less than most dealerships, and they re completely professional and trustworthy. Would recommend them to anyone who is having transmission troubles. I worked with Ross, and he was awesome from beginning to end.

Tip Top did a great job on my 1989 GMC Jimmy transmission. I was referred by a friend to Tip Top, after a transmission job performed by A to Z transmission in Heber City, failed completely after a few hours of light use and A to Z wouldn't warranty their work after paying thousands of dollars on the transmission. I use this for work, plowing snow and needed it fixed immediately. Called Tip Top and they made arrangements to have my vehicle towed to their shop the same day. They identified the problem quickly and informed me of repairs needed to fix the problem. Ross and the crew went out of their way to provide great customer service at a reasonable price. Convenient location, being right off the interstate, allowed for quick drop off and pick up, saving me time and money. I have had many transmissions repaired over the years and its nice to know I now have a knowledgeable shop I can trust from now on that warranty their work. Looking forward to working with Ross and crew at Tip Top Transmissions in the future. Thanks again, from a satisfied customer.

The guys at Tip Top are awesome!! They have worked on my cars for years. We run some pretty old cars and they have been fair with each one. They have been very fair working with us for warrant work. They have been very up front about my costs. I love that they give my cars a check over each time they have it. It gives me a heads up for future costs and no surprises. You can't go wrong with them.

My Jeep Wrangler was in "LIMP mode" .They methodically found where part the wiring harness was worn through. They kept me apprised of the work they were doing. found the problem, designed a solution and got it all repaired better then new. I came to Ross at Tip Top Transmissions with a tricky repair (wheel bearing replacement on an older 4x4 Toyota Tacoma) that I needed to have addressed quickly while I was driving across the country. Ross and the techs at Tip Top went above and beyond anything I could have expected. Not only was the repair done quickly to get me back on the road, but Ross even called the mechanic who had done a faulty repair just days earlier and got them to cover the expense! I am confident that Ross and his crew are about as talented as anyone in the business. Honestly, my mind is kind of blown. On top of that, Ross and the other mechanics at Tip Top were a treat to interact with. Really nice guys. I am almost looking forward to the next time I need a repair in Salt Lake City. Ross over at Tip Top was so awesome to work with. After a huge hassle from another shop not re-building my rear end correctly on my truck, I was referred to these guys from Industrial Injection for their awesome work and man were they right! These guys were on top of everything and Ross kept me updated nearly every day with updates on my truck. I can t thank the man enough. Being booked out and still able to squeeze me in was seriously much appreciated. I plan on going back to these guys for any repairs from now on. I would highly recommend this shop. My daughter s car broke down while she was 1,200 miles from home. She was able to get the car to limp into Tip Top Transmissions in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was nearing the end of her summer work internship there and needed her car back quickly to be able to make the 1,200-mile journey back home. Tip Top could have easily said take a number we ll get to it when we get to it since they had her non-driving car there at that point or taken advantage of a young lady far from home, but they did not. They got it apart quickly and identified problems from a previous repair that a different company had done. Instead of just fixing it, they went above and beyond, and took pictures of the previous repair issues, talked to my daughter, my wife and I, (several times) to explain things in terms we could understand, talked to the shop that had done the previous work, and talked (multiple times) to our insurance company that had paid for the previous work. Luckily, they are a full-service auto mechanic shop that just specializes in transmission repairs, so they were able to fix the transmission as well as the other damage done due to the previous repair. They thoroughly test drove it after their repairs to make sure my daughter would not get stranded on the side of a road somewhere. When all was said and done, my daughter got back a car in perfect working order in time to drive home and our insurance covered the costs that were due to the original repair issues. Joey, the owner of this shop, along with his staff (Ross and Gary) treated my daughter like she was their own, and I will be forever grateful! If you are looking for a reputable car repair shop, look no further. I can t say enough good things about Tip Top Transmissions.Services: Transmission, Engine repair

We will never ever take our car anywhere else. Joey and his team are thorough, honest, and knowledgeable. We have had extensive repairs on our vehicle done and returned it to the original shop that did the work 5 or 6 times before anyone would admit something was wrong with the repair they did. When we took our car to Tip Top they took the time to diagnose it, fit it, and then re-test it to make sure we wouldn't have any further problems with it. Since picking our car up we haven't had a single issue. We will definitely be referring our friends and family here in the future.

The owner and his company are awesome. I had an incredibly positive experience here.January of 2020 they took me in from Tanner Transmissions in Draper where I had quite possibly the worst customer experience of my life.Tip Top towed me from Riverton to North Salt Lake at no cost, took less than a week to finish the job, kept me informed along the way with updates, and got me a rebuilt transmission on a 2010 Ford Focus for a little over $2K.I never felt like I was being conned, they were happy to educate on any questions and were friendly.Nearly a year later, the transmission is running the same as when we left the shop.I would highly recommend Tip Top to anyone unfortunately dealing with transmission issues.

Mike was great to work with! Tip Top did a free analysis in my transmission overheating and told me what it needed. I didn t have to have them do the work and the analysis was still free! I can't say enough about the owner Joey and the crew that he has working for him. Came into town traveling from the Bay Area to MN with clutch problems that were sure to put a stop to my trip. After calling every transmission spot in SLC and being turned away I fortunately called this place. They told me to bring it right in, they'll take a quick look at it and see if they can do anything to keep me on the road. THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT THEY DID! After a couple hours they had it working great. Not only that, but he also made it a point to get me his business card and told me to have the transmission shop in MN who was going to do the long term work to call him and he'll run through his findings with them. His staff was more than informative, certainly calming my nerves as you can imagine they were running high with truck issues and a 1,000 miles to go on my journey. Their knowledge and willingness to so quickly help a guy out is a pairing that seems to be lost in these times. Especially with a parking lot full of other vehicles to work on. We were on a trip to Yellowstone and far from home when our transmission started smoking on our motor home. We had it towed into Salt Lake City and waited till Monday to find someone to look at it/fix it. We went to many Ford dealerships and small nationwide transmission shops just to be turned away. The Ford dealerships don t work on motorhomes and the other shops didn t seem interested. In a panic I started googling. Tip top transmission popped up. I read a few reviews and decided to call. Joey was very nice as I explained my situation. He told me to try to drive it to him and if we had any problems he would send a wrecker to come get it. We ended up needing the wrecker after all do to the previous wrecker stripping the drive line bolts. He was very knowledgeable and him and his team drove the motor home and diagnosed the problem in a very timely manner. Always in contact with us and making sure we were in the loop. He had our coach done when we returned from Yellowstone the following week (we decided to carry on with our trip) and even had us bring the coach back (4 days later) before the long trip home just to ensure everything was good. He and his team care. A great straight forward shop with people who actually care! We will be back next year for our yearly service on the transmission.

I was experiencing some alarming sounds coming from my transmission and an over all janky feeling when handling my Subaru Forester. Tip Top Transmissions was able to diagnose the issues fairly quickly. They were very clear in explaining what those issues were and how long repairing those issues would take. Their staff is very kind and patient while being extremely busy. Now that I'm driving my Forester again, I can attest to the quality of work Tip Top did. It runs very smoothly and quietly.
