Bad bad place and bad people. Quoted me a price to do work ($1,600) and the told me it would be $400 extra when I went in to pick up my car. Mechanic yelled at me for expecting quality service, NOT KIDDING. I had called prior to picking up my car to get the exact price for cash payment and because I was surprised at the 25% overage I figured I'd record the interaction when I went in to pick up my car. I would be happy to share that audio with anyone who may, like me, give this place the benefit of the doubt and trust their vehicle with them. I'm quite sure you will make a better choice.

Called multiple times to get a simple quote from them to come pick up my vehicle and have it fixed. First call was Wednesday, got told I d hear back that day, called Thursday and was told to wait and they would call me back, Friday came around and I called again, and again and no answer needless to say, it s a week after and haven t heard from anyone back and don t expect to, I ll go somewhere else. This might ve been a good place to go to for Volvos before but from what I could tell from the interactions I had with them is that this place is not worth your time or money, take it as you may.

I had an issue with my 2019 V90. Long story short, extremely difficult to diagnose, even the Dealership couldn't diagnose it. Al's was able to diagnose it and resolve it. It took some time due to the oddity of the repair. I was frustrated at the situation and probably wasn't the easiest client to work with at times and Al's was always very polite and respectful.Al's is knowledgeable & honest. I feel like they genuinely care about your vehicle and will work to make sure it's repaired correctly at a reasonable cost.

I took my car in on Thursday, they said they would have it done and ready by Friday afternoon at the latest, I went by at 4 pm Friday, and they had left, for a long weekend. I couldn t get ahold of them by phone or email. They didn t attempt to contact me, or even apologize when I finally got my car on the following Tuesday. I was out another $400 in transportation by taxi for those days they kept my car without permission I am a single mom and I had a newborn at the time. They refused to take my warranty information, and demanded I pay on my own and said the warranty will reimburse me. When I called to get reimbursed the warranty company said They did things That were not even recommended on scheduled maintenance and we re not covered in my warranty. They double charged me for unrequested requested services, and double charged me for parts, and intimidated me demanding I pay them my self or I couldn t get my car and took what money I had. I was out $2500 (total loss $2,900.00, there went my tax refund!) that s more than my car was even worth, and all I went in for was front breaks. I had never dealt with a mechanic shop on my own, this was my first experience and it left me traumatized and I have a great difficulty going to a mechanic after the awful experience I had with this unethical and unprofessional family business. If you are a single lady, or you don t know much about car matters, don t go there. They will try to take advantage of you, and then intimidate you out of your money with out shame or conscience.Services: General repairs & maintenance, Brakes, Oil change

I visited Al's after getting a repair bid from the Volvo dealer for my faulty sunroof. Dealer had given me an estimate of $4500 to completely replace the sunroof mechanism. I had asked the service writer at Ken Garff to double check with technician and they came back and confirmed and said insulation from the headliner had jammed up the mechanism. There was no option and indicated the sunroof would not work with anything short of full replacement of the unit.I took the car to Al's and asked them to diagnose the problem. I gave them no them no heads up as to my experience with the local dealer. I got a call the same day and was told the issue was fixed and they charged me 2 hrs labor for an adjustment to the sunroof mechanism. Sunroof works perfectly. It is clear the dealer is possibly lacking the know-how and training to do anything but general maintenance and wholesale replacement of broken or inoperable systems (Warranty service). If you want a real technician, and someone passionate about the brand, skip the dealer. I highly recommend Al's Volvo Service.Service: General repairs & maintenance

These guys are great we've gone back several times for different issues with our xc70. They've come to be the only shop we trust with our Volvo.

The service at Al s Volvo is definitely worth the Volvo name. the service was fast and transparent I was contacted before any changes to my work order were made, and wasn t charged for any additional labor regardless of what issues they ran across. hands down one of the most reliable mechanics I ve ever taken my Volvo S60 to!

Al's Volvo Service is the top shop in Salt Lake City for mechanical specialists. I had numerous issues with my vehicle and they did an excellent job with bringing it back to life. They were far more cheaper than the dealer and even did some things at no charge. Their shop was very clean and organized. It even had it's own unique taste for decoration with some cool throwback antiques. I highly recommend Al's Volvo Service and will be returning there with all my Mechanical needs.

I took my pristine XC90 to Al s to replace the radiator. Shorty after, the transmission started failing. I took it back and told them if it was transmission, I was not going to repair it. They told me it was the tires and put brand new tires all the way around on the vehicle. It failed again on the way home, so I took it to Volvo and was told the transmission had been damaged due to a faulty radiator leaking into the transmission. So was car was destroyed, then I was charged for new tires that were not needed. Al s told me I should go after the guy that sold them the radiator, even though their work is supposedly warranted. They took no responsibility for destroying my vehicle. It was 10 years old, always parked in a garage, and only had 90,000 miles. To make matters worse, that was the 3rd time I had been to them with issues they failed to fix.Service: General repairs & maintenance

Spectacular! I m from out of town, so could only go off internet reviews. Al s Volvo picked my car up from another auto repair shop that proved to be incompetent, at least in Volvo s. Al s then got right to work diagnosing and fixing a front axle cv joint and right wheel bearing. And they did it in 2 days with no advanced appointment! Super responsive and easy to work with and professional. I wouldn t take my car anywhere else. Al s is the best!Service: Steering & suspension repair

I was in and out in a flash. They called several times along the way to keep me apprised of the progress. Car now runs like a charm. I've taken my Volvo to other places who don't specialize in Volvo specifically. They royally screwed up my S60 and took weeks to do the repair because they had to wait to rent tools from other shops. I've now owned four Volvos. Al's is awesome. These guys are the best around for Volvo, hands down.

His prices were good, service was good. But watch out for this guy, he'll do unauthorized repairs on my volvo and also he would take far too long to finish. One time he had my car for ten days. Then when it was finally done there would be an extra two or three hundred $ more than the original quote. I repeated to AL many times, call before you make any extra repairs. He never would. So, that's how the guy makes his extra dough. Granted my car was better off with the repairs, but that's not the point.

Our Volvo is old and we want it running for our kids. Al and his wife are honest and hard working small business owners. Also, they will take more time than the dealer. If you can spare being without the car, then this is a great economical option. Al rightly found out what exactly was wrong and charged me only $150 to get the repair done vs. a dealer who wanted ~ 1200$ to blindly replace an entire electrical system. I felt that Al really impressed me with more in depth know how than the dealer at a fraction of the resulting cost.

Al's is awesome!! I would not take my car to anybody else, a true professional! I have had my Volvo serviced here 2 times and both times we wonderful. I read some of the other comments that are negative - and I totally disagree with them. We should be so lucky to have an expert such as Al.

Only did what was needed. Heber is Very knowledgeable and courteous. They don't have a huge lounge with TVs like dealerships but they have the right skills to fix Volvo S60.

Al is a 20 year Volvo veteran. He is no-nonsense, will never charge more than needed and it is very easy to work with. Al's wife is very friendly and helpful. Will definitely come back when my Volvo requires another repair.

I had to leave my 940 Volvo in Salt Lake City for a transmission rebuild last year. Al rebuilt it, including sending the torque converter to Idaho for refurbishing, While working on the transmission, I had him put in a new oil pan. As part of that job, he rebuilt my oil pump, a good suggestion for a car with 200,000 miles. Al, his son, and wife are easy to communicate with and very good about explaining why things need to be done. They really take an interest in your car and spot things that might cause trouble -- legitimate problems. Because I have such a good service shop there, I decided to store the car in Salt Lake so I will have something to drive when I come into town for longer periods. An all-around good operation that can cope with the problems of much older Volvos that sometimes need second-hand parts.

Had my 4 wheel alignment done here. It was well priced, and they went above what was asked to do. They are honest you can feel it. I would recommend Al's Volvo anytime.

Took my Volvo to a different shop after Al's Volvo told me the rear differential needed to be replaced to fix a vibration felt in the cabin; this would cost over $1,000. The other shop in Idaho informed me that the front right wheel bearing had been stopped and that was the source of the issue. After the shop in Idaho replaced the wheel bearing, the vibration went away. Also they demonstrated a working AWD system of my car and that the rear differential was completely fine. If I would have stuck with what Al's Volvo told me, I would have wasted $1,000 and never fixed the problem. Don't trust this shop

If I could give a negative star I would. I called in and talked to Dee last week to price out an A/C recharge. Dee quoted me $65. I asked her if that included the evacuation of the old coolant and a recharge of the new. Dee said yes it did. I made an appointment and brought it in. I stayed for the work because I live a ways away and they told me it would only take around an hour. When I got there AL checked it with his gauges and came in to ask me if I wanted to just add new or evacuate first and then do a full recharge since I was pretty empty. I asked him which was included for the quote of $65. He looked at me like I was crazy and told me the $65 was for labor only and another $50- $60 for the coolant. Luckily I record all of my calls on my cell phone. When I told him to stop what he was doing and that I just wanted to take my car somewhere else he seemed surprised. His son came over and asked what was going on. Al said i was fighting him on a couple dollars. I clarified and told the son I was upset because the price doubled. They both stated that I still had to pay for their time. They hadn't done anything yet except hook up a gauge to verify it was empty. When I told him I record my calls he didn't even want to listen and pretty much called me a liar. If he is angry he should talk to Dee who quoted the $65 to start with not take it out on the customer. All I wanted was my car back so I could take it to another shop who actually cares about their customers. Instead of unhooking it he filled it up and told me to pay the $65. Al I really wanted was to just get my car and leave but I was out of options. When we went in to get an invoice and for me to pay he told me cash only. I had to walk to the 7-11 to get cash. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE AVOID this location. you can't trust a shop that does not stand by a quote for a simple repair on a car.

Owners only care about profit and not about the consumer. They also are very unreliable when it comes to getting back to you or keeping to a time they told you. I would recommend Utleys European Auto, and this is coming from someone who has owned many Volvo and went to Volvo only dealers in the past.

Al's has a very personable staff, clean facilities, and knowledgeable Volvo experts. I will gladly return to Al's for any more repairs that come up in the future. All this effort in the middle of a pandemic.... And an earthquake!!!
