Recapture Lodge is a very nice inn. Made a reservation on the phone while travelling on my motorcycle, and Jim told me that the room would be open, and the key was in the room. The room was great and very quiet and peaceful, the bed was comfy. Great lobby with games, books, and lots of maps of the area. Also, has a lot of choices for breakfast foods. Ended up staying a second night! It's the only place I will stay when I come back. Thanks Jim!Rooms: Very nice room with tile floors.Nearby activities: So much to see for day trips that I will need to come back here.Safety: It's a very small town, so it's very quiet. Not a lot of traffic, barely heard any vehicles.Walkability: There is a very nice restaurant right across the street.Noteworthy details: The kind of place where you actually talk to the other guests that are travelling, or staying a while.

We stayed at Recapture lodge when our hire car broke down in the town. We hadn't planned to stop but had a thoroughly enjoyable 3 night stay with the great hospitality and local knowledge offered by Jim and Luanne. The town has nice walks and a fascinating history as described by the town's open air museum. The breakfasts are good and plentiful and we were allowed to light a camp fire in a seating area opposite the lodging. We would highly recommend a stay here.

This place is seriously old school. Actual room keys. Tube television. The owners/managers are among the most charming and helpful people I've ever met. We're already planning to stay much longer next year.Nearby activities: If the barbecue place across the street is open, you need that in your life.Food & drinks: Free "serve yourself" breakfast with good coffee, hard boiled eggs, fresh fruit, etc.

Beds are motel 6 standard squeaky and hard and the pillows are thin rocks. Breakfast consisted of coffee and oatmeal packets with a couple of hard boiled eggs... for the price drive back to Blanding and get a good night restRooms: Noisy beds hard pillows

This is so much more than a motel. It's very clean, the breakfasts are nice-great coffee and plenty of it, check in is easy, owners are really nice and knowledgeable, pets are welcome, the pool (small) and hot tub are nice and clean, great location for day trips, nice to have a refrigerator and microwave in the room. But what really makes it are the other guests (I know it depends on when you go, but from what we experienced and heard, it seems there's a good chance of meeting some interesting people). When we were there, several musicians were staying there and we enjoyed the music in the evenings. And the other very special thing is the path to the river-it's so beautiful, perfect for a morning run, for dog walks, for bird watching. And the most important thing for me-it's quiet. I was on the 1st floor, never heard anyone above me, never heard cars pull in or out of the parking area, never heard people walk by my room.

This is a wonderful old lodge that has been properly kept up. Very nice setting with lots of trees. The host is a great guy and very helpful. Clean, with comfortable beds and good old real glass tumblers to drink out of. Where do you find those nowdays? Will stay there again when in southern Utah. There's nothing better. The breakfast dining room is very cool.

I stayed here on a 2 week road trip and it was my favorite place. The rooms were rustic but very comfortable. Check in was contactless and easy. The property is the best part. Great pool and hot tub. And a short walk down to the river, which was so beautiful. The coffee was complimentary and pretty good. If you find yourself traveling through the beautiful town of Bluff, stay here.

A very nice, older hotel that is well maintained. Check in was almost instantaneous when the owner came out to tell me where my room was. There were no papers to sign and he had already left my key in my room for me. The room may have been older of course, but it was very clean and had all the nice amenities I like. I had one of the most quiet nights I've ever had in a hotel, partially because this hotel is located in a very small town. Also the wifi service was very good. Highly recommend this hotel.

Was looking for a place in the middle of our commute from Grand Canyon to Colorado. This was nearly the perfect location. Our room was great. Two large beds and a pullout. Pool was very well kept, clean, and blissful. Hot tub was nice. Had a great trail from the room to the San Juan river. They allowed our pup as well which is a deal breaker for places that don't as our dog goes everywhere with us. Staff was extremely courteous and welcoming. My only negative is that there is very limited restaurants in the area, so the continental breakfast could be beefed up a little. But that certainly wouldnt prevent me from staying at this amazing facility again in the future. Price was right, staff was great, pool in the middle of the desert, yes please. You will see us again. Thank you!

We've stayed in Recapture Lodge a few times over last 20 years, enormously enjoying magnificent Monument Valley, breathtaking views of Bluff. The hotel lets you experience true spirit of the West, enjoy the very best American hospitality. We've traveled a lot and stayed in hotels in more than 20 countries, but this place is unforgettable and touches your heart deeply.

Great place. After a 3 weeks trip out west, definitely one of the best places we stayed at. Some will say the rooms could be upgraded, but that's what gives this place its charm. The best part is the pool and hot tube area : open 24h, lights in and out of the pool, and incredible star gazing opportunity. No city lights around, the milky way was just incredible !

Beautiful landscape all around. Nice rooms with lots of storage and hooks for gear. Comfy beds. Jim and Luanne are wonderful hosts. Amazing breakfast. And yes, the pool is one of the highlights.

Locally owned by some of the most friendly folks around. Lots of nice outdoor places to eat or congregate & a kids play area. Each room has an outdoor table & pair of chairs to enjoy the beautiful vistas & mature trees provide shade and texture. The San Juan River is a stone's throw away and the owners have developed a nice trail from there to Sand Island (roughly 5-6 miles) with some sand spots but well worth the walk, run or fat tire bike. Rooms are well sanitized, have fridge & microwave plus character.

I stopped late in the evening without a reservation and found a room, didn't know what to expect. The room was very plain and could have used a major overhaul, but quiet and set in a lovely place near a river--with access to trails along the river. The staff was friendly and helpful. A big breakfast is included, wonderful as long as you're not gluten-intolerant. If I return to this location I'll stay here again. Good value for the dollar.

I did not stay at this lodge, but if I'm ever in the area again, I certainly will! I was on a road-trip and was left stranded in the middle of nowhere by AAA, who told us to figure out a tow ourselves. We walked in the heat to the Recapture Lodge and asked to use their phone to call a tow company. The lady at the front desk was so kind and helpful, not only letting us use the phone but giving us some nice cold water and a list of local tow companies and mechanics. After her help, we were able to get a tow back to Blanding and have our car fixed. Amazing customer service!

Simple, rustic, and clean. Great for an overnight stop to break up a trip between Phoenix and Colorado. Owners were very friendly and helpful. Continental breakfast was perfect for a jump start before hitting the road in the morning. Scenery in the area is uniquely beautiful!

I have been staying at this quiet, family run, hotel several times a year for the past ten years. I often drive an extra hour to stay here and mourn when they close for the winter. The staff goes above and beyond to make sure their guests enjoy their time in Bluff. There is plenty of parking for oversized vehicles and a hot tub to relax in after a long day. The breakfast area has a great lending library and maps of the area. The rooms have always been clean and comfortable. If you want to experience Southern Utah as a local and not a tourist, this is the place to be!

It's getting harder and harder to find privately run motels that make you feel like you're getting more than your money's worth, but I think the Recapture Lodge succeeds at that. We stayed there this summer during a motorcycle trip, and the place was like an oasis at the end of a long hot ride. The decor in the lobby and breakfast area alone was worth the stay, and the pool and hot tub made the stay even better. Beautiful motel situated in a beautiful area, run by some really decent people; it's hard to ask for more than that.

Love it, Every one at the front desk was exceptionally nice. Rooms are nice, clean and beds are comfortable. Mini fridge and microwave in room. Please if you travel with your support dog - be courteous, responsable and clean; keep them off the beds and furniture and pick up after them don't ruin it for the rest of us. Large space to take a morning walk. Did I mention all staff members are great, will answer and have lots of info on just about anything. Will definitely be back.

If we travel this way again, we will stay here, and so should you!!I found this place by chance when looking for pet-friendly lodging. Wow, did I get lucky! My husband, I, and our two dogs had been road-tripping from Iowa, back home to Arizona and this was by far the best place we stayed. The owners are extremely nice, and our room was very comfortable with a small fridge and microwave. There is a trail system in the back that goes back to the river and the scenery is gorgeous. There is complimentary breakfast in the morning too.One of our dogs is a scared rescue, and she bolted out of our room in the morning. The owners were calling neighbors, telling them to keep an eye out. One of the owner's (Lu Ann) got on her bike while letting us borrow the golf cart to go around the trail system. She found our dog's tracks and tracked her back into town, while the K & C's store called back to say they saw our dog. They helped us for around four hours and did not give up. Because of them, we found our dog, and have her safely back with us!These people are amazing, and you will be so happy if you get to stay here!

The beds were a little bit stiff but omg I slept really hard. A wonderful place where you can see the stars and smell the sweet, crisp, clean air. The water was nice and hot, and I am surprised about how cool it got in the evening. If you stay here, please go visit the river behind the hotel, it is a brisk walk but man its totally worth it.

This place is as far as you can get from chain hotels. Nice room with a comfy chair. Fridge, microwave, and satellite TV. Location is the main thing, dark skies, hike to the river, quiet. Owner was very friendly during check in.It has evaporative cooling which isn't true AC. It is in the desert, if you need climate control this is probably not your place. Overall though the positives far outweigh the negatives.

We spent two weeks on a Four corners road trip and this was the nicest surprise along the way. The room was standard hotel fare, but the pool and hot tub were very welcome after a long drive, the staff was super friendly and helpful, the breakfast was great, and the ambience was perfect. Loved the piano, ukelele, and trombone in the common room and the collection of area hiking and other information was remarkable. Take a walk down the path to the river behind the place.

A destination in and of itself, owner Jim Hook and staff are very knowledgeable and helpful directing guests to areas of exploration. Breakfast is furnished and gives you a chance to interact with other guests, some who return year after year. It s especially relaxing to hike down to the San Juan River and enjoy a morning cup of coffee, return down the same path in the evening to experience the setting sun. Jim has provided Adirondack chairs at rivers edge to make this experience even more enjoyable. Rooms are clean and well kept. A must place to stay when in southeast Utah.

Have stayed here a dozen times over the past 45 years. Totally unpretentious spot, well worn, in a totally unpretentious, well worn town. Just about our favorite place on Earth. Staff are super knowledgeable and helpful. If you love the Four Corners, this place is the perfect spot to stay for the desert, San Juan River, Monument Valley, Bears Ears, Hovenweep, Canyonlands (Needles), Valley of the Gods, the Moki Dugway, the Navajo & Ute reservations, and other spectacular sites, plus countless ruins, historic and prehistoric, and the greatest movie locations. Surprisingly cool in summer due to the swamp coolers and intelligently designed layout. The reference library in the lobby is great.
