Hughes Automotive is wonderful! They replaced the wheel hub and bearings on my car. Great customer service representative too! Any business that takes care of animals has a great heart. Add in quality work like they do at Hughes and it s a no brainer!

The staff here is very friendly, welcoming, and professional. A few weeks ago, I backed my car into a ditch/driveway dip and knocked something off the bottom. I took it to Hughes and they had it done the next day, and it s back to normal. I highly recommend this shop!Services: Steering & suspension repair, General repairs & maintenanceServices: Steering & suspension repair, General repairs & maintenance

Looked up mechanic shops in Tyler for my daughters car. Found Hughes and they had good reviews . She needed front struts replaced on her car. They completed the job and price was half of what others quoted . Job completed on a Thursday, Sunday she came home to visit and stated her brakes was acting weird . I checked the fluid and it was bone dry. Got under the car and noticed the hose the goes into the caliber the screw was loose. Every time she press the brakes it would pour out completely. Called there after hours number and never got a return call until Monday . My daughter took car in Monday and the fixed the issue and completed the job and she was waiting on a ride to pick her car up . Then I finally get a return call telling me to bring car in and let them look at it. I said sir the car is in your shop right now! Phone gets silent . So I ll let you be the judge if you decide to take your vehicle there! I mean how dangerous could that have been for my daughter if her brakes went out?Service: Steering & suspension replacement

Would highly recommend Hughes Automotive. Have been there multiple times over the last few years. The owner Billy has definitely earned my business. Between him and one of the mechanics Jay, they will always have my business! They are very fast and timely when working on my truck. I brought my truck in needing an alignment this last time. They had the truck taken care of within just a couple of hours. I would highly recommend them to anyone needing their vehicle worked on!Services: General repairs & maintenance, Wheel alignment

Soo thankful for Hughes Automotive! Billy the owner and all his long time experienced mechanics are always super helpful and dependable!! If not for them I d be having to pay dealer prices which I know from quotes are significantly higher and I d be waiting longer to boot!!Hughes is always busy but treat you like you re their only customer. They ve serviced several vehicles for me over many years and the work has always been superb. They ve serviced my 1995 Toyota T-100 pickup (Son now drives. Over 300K mi), a 2006 (?) VW Jetta Diesel (Grandson now drives) & a 2009 Scion XB that I still drive!! We ve recently purchased a 2019 Subaru Outback and I won t hesitate trusting Hughes with it either!!!I can always count on Hughes to get the job done.Few Examples:I had passed my Toyoto T-100 on to my dad after I bought a new Tundra. It would be running fine but he d go to the store, kill it and then it wouldn t start when he came back out. Have to let it sit awhile (sometimes 30 min, couple hours or next day) and then it would start right up. It happened very randomly. Maybe once in a couple weeks or once in a couple months. Puzzling. He took it to HIS mechanic in Lindale. The mechanic did hundreds of dollars worth of work on it trying to fix the issue. I m assuming he was guessing because the problem continued after getting it back. But it was so random that it took awhile to find out it wasn t fixed. His mechanic told my dad to take it to have the catalytic converter checked. Nothing was wrong with it but he had it replaced anyway. Still continued to have the problem.I told him Let me take it to Hughes!! . I think it was the same day that Hughes called me telling me exactly what the problem was!! It was so visually obvious that he couldn t believe the other place didn t see it. Can t remember exactly what it was called but it was some kind of sensor that was broken and hanging out of the block!! Approx $100 - $200 and a day or two later, problem solved & it was back on the road. Boom Last job was a wheel bearing on my Scion. Replaced the entire hub assembly. Got it done in 2 days. (Showed me the old hub and how the bearing was so worn that I could barely turn the hub because it was grinding so hard.) After I had already dropped it off at Hughes, I checked with the dealer out of curiosity and they wanted several hundred dollars more and wanted me to wait TWO WEEKS for the bearing to come in!!!! Not the whole hub assembly, just the bearing!!!! I got the whole hub in a couple days & much less expensive!!I remember another time on the VW there was an emissions issue. Hughes quickly found the problem & fixed it. Shortly after it reoccurred. They worked on it again to be sure it was done correctly. No extra charge!! Seemed to resolve the problem. Later problem reoccurred. Took it back. It didn t make sense so they remove the part they had installed & replaced it with another. That fixed it!! Apparently the part was malfunctioning. And it was a dealer item!! It was somewhat of a time consuming job each time but again no extra charge. Now fyi, depending on how busy they are and the size of the job, (such as when they ve replaced water pump, timing chain, etc.) I ve had to leave it for longer periods of time but they do their best and get out pretty quick!! And you re is safely locked up while not being worked on!That s just a few examples of my experiences w/ Hughes. You can count on good service at a good price w/ Hughes Automotive!!Services: General repairs & maintenance, Electrical, Engine repair, Auto brake replacement

I brought a pair of aftermarket headlights to Hughes Automotive and was a train wreck from the start. They said that they would be able to install them with no problems but soon after the first time taking my car to have them installed the daytime running light came on and the bright light would not work on the drivers side. Also, on the receipt that they gave us it claims they aligned the headlight beams but we quickly found out they didn t since they were literally pointed at the ground. No one told us this and this was honestly very dangerous since we were not aware. After the second time taking my car back they said they could align the headlights. Why didn t they do this the first time? I then brought it back again for them to fix this issue but soon after again there was another problem, the normal headlight on the drivers side would not work at all. I brought it back for the third time and was told I would have to pay $75 for the repairs. I told the main manager Billy that I didn t believe i should have to pay for the repairs since they where the ones who said they could put these headlights in with no issues. He tried to explain to us after the first issue that aftermarket parts have problems sometimes but why would you take on a job that you have the risk of knowing there will be issues? Since he told us that he could put these new headlights in i believe it is now his responsibility to fix them if they cannot install them correctly. Over the phone when I was very calmly taking with him explaining I didn t think I should be charged he began raising his voice at me saying he didn t fix the headlights. To end the conversation over the phone he told me, it s ready buddy come and get it in a very rude tone and hung up on me. I would not recommend anyone to bring their vehicles to this very rude and inexperienced shop.Services: Electrical repair, Electrical

I took my car here to get new headlights replaced. When I got my car back I noticed when I drove at night they weren t aligned. I called them and I was told that they didn t know how to do that and you have to have a special tool to do it on foreign cars. I was fortunate enough to have the receipt and saw that the priced included alignment. So the owner of this establishment I believe his name was Billy let me drive off his property without acknowledgment of unaligned headlights. I brought my car back a second time to fix a daytime running light issue that prohibited my brights from coming on and all of a sudden when I brought up the alignment issue and the receipt they magically knew how to align the headlights. Lastly, the headlight stopped working so I brought my car in a third time and was met with rude, downgrading comments such as well the car is ready buddy come get it after we were just asking why we should pay when they said they could put the headlights in and could wire the aftermarket headlights correctly. Just because you are young they believe that they can be rude and hit my car with a pole when they parked it after our previous conversation.

A huge shoutout to Hughes Automotive! My daughters car broke down over the weekend of the fourth. They were willing to set up everything with me over the phone. After initial saying it sounded like a radiator problem, they were up front that it was just the thermostat. Even finalized over the phone, so I didnt have to drive there, and were willing to work with me on how we could pick up the car. Their great work got my daughter home safe. An honest and trustworthy mechanic that I would suggest anyone see if in the area and needing work done.Services: Auto engine diagnostic, Engine repair

I have been using Hughes automotive for several years. Being a woman who does not understand the workings of an automobile, Billy has always spoken with me in a clear and effective way so I can understand what the problem is with my vehicle. He advises me on what repairs need to be done,, he doesn't spend my money unnecessarily, and he and his staff truly care about providing a good service. I highly recommend Hughes automotive to anyone needing high-quality, fairly priced automotive services. They are just good folks!!!!Services: General repairs & maintenance, Electrical, Air conditioning

Dropped my car off because the steer wheel was shaking. I didn't expect them to get me in and out that day, but figured I could go ahead and figure out what the problem was and get on their schedule. They called me and informed me of the problem and cost, along with the severity of it. They were able to get me in and fixed that day!! Jay was great! Extremely kind and considerate! He told me my brakes was the only other thing that needed some attention, but that it was not crucial at this point. Due to the ease and great service, my whole household is now using them for any repair or maintenance needs! I'll see y'all next week!

Took my car here on two separate occasions and both were extremely great experiences! Great customer service and good length of time for the repair. I was able to get my car back within hours. Great place! I think I might have found my go to mechanic.

My niece & I were at Hughes Automotive shortly after they opened one day last week. Mr. Billy was very informative & talked to me where I could understand what he needed to do so he could make sure the work was done properly & the issue corrected. Well, long story short, my niece's car was finished before noon & running AWESOME I might add. The price was very reasonable too. If I ever have issues with my car or my niece's car, we will be going to Hughes Automotive again. #HughesAutomotiveROCKS

I chose Hughes Automotive because it was close to my apartment. The service here was GREAT! They verified what I thought was wrong with my vehicle. They only kept my vehicle for 1 day. Also, I don't know of many repair shops that will offer to bring you to work/home while your vehicle is being looked at. They also picked me up the morning my vehicle was ready. This really came in handy because I'm fairly new to the area and have no family here in Tyler. They have my business for future repairs!

I called Hughes Automotive to get an estimate for a water pump replacement at 8am. I got an estimate in 5 minutes, scheduled a repair appointment for the same day I got the review, and had my repair completed before 12 noon, at a very reasonable price. Very friendly staff, with quick completion at a very reasonable price.

When in because my car would not turn on without a jump. I knew it was either the alternator or the battery but i wanted to get it checked out first. I went in and told them what the problem was, they were attentive and friendly. They told me they would have it checked out and ready by lunchtime. I didn't have another ride to work so i asked to stay there for a little while they worked. I went in at 8:30am and I was out of there by 9:30am, way quicker than what they told me. Very satisfied with the service and if I need any more repairs, I'll know where to go.

We had a HORRIBLE experience! I had issues with my mazda overheating along with some electrical issues so we took it here, based on the reviews. We get a call saying the thermostat needed to be replaced and that it would be $300 for them to fix it. Fortunately we knew how to replace the thermostat ourselves so we told them not to touch the thermostat and just work on diagnosing the electrical issues. We got a call about an hour later telling us the car was ready and our total was $300. We were shocked since we told them not to touch anything and just diagnose the other issues. When we got there the owner was VERY disrespectful and rude, claiming we TOLD him to fix it. There's no way we would have asked him to replace that part with us knowing how to fix it ourselves! They didn't even look at the electric, to top it off! The only way he "tried" to make it right was to take the part off, put our broken one back on and charge us for diagnostic. Wrong! The right thing to do would have been to charge us for diagnostic and parts only! We will NEVER go back! We were treated like scum. They way overcharge for parts too. We bought the exact same thermostat for $40 at autozone. They charged us $120. Dishonesty at its finest. We learned the hard way. DO NOT TRUST THESE GUYS!

Honesty and plain dealings. I have used Hughes automotive the past 3 years. Today they diagnosed the rattle in my older car. I was told it was not a necessary repair (it will not cause further damage or a safety issue). Any other shop would have pressured me to do the unnecessary repair which I chose to bypass on my 160k miles vehicle. I do need rear brakes and an oil change which they will complete quickly.

The man who worked on my matrix was the most rude man ever!! His name was Allen. They put a starter on and my car was running rough. Anyway, we kept telling him something was wrong and finally he had this long tool and he literally threw it like a knife with me standing beside him, and it stuck in the ground. He yelled give me 5 minutes. Needless to say my car didn't get fixed and we were very misled by this man. I have never been treated so rude. He should not have a job working with people!!! Especially women. Don't go there!!!

Seemed very helpful at first. Told me I had several coolant leaks, a leaky valve cover gasket, and that my turbo was probably consuming oil. Trusted them to fix it all, other than the turbo as they are expensive to replace. When I picked up I mentioned if they had also fixed another one of my concerns and the guy had no ideas about it. A day later I realize that the car was having the same issues which was the main issue I had brought it in for. A few months later while doing some maintenance work myself, I realize that they replaced absolutely no coolant hoses as they said they were going to, my valve covers are leaking more than they were before, and i removed my turbo (which took me less than an hour) to replace it myself and discovered that the only problem with it was a missing bolt which was causing oil to leak. So I basically paid $600 for absolutely nothing? To make it worse, I waited until the last month of warranty as I am very busy and need my car on the daily to call for a warranty repair on the gaskets and all they would do is tell me that they would call me back, which they never did, until the warranty period went out. I ll add them to my list of businesses not to deal with along with Tyler Radiator Shop and Tyler Auto Plex.

They took our car in for a leak. They said it was a power steering pump. Pump cost 160 at parts house . They wanted 500 to install rebuilt pump. I said to much for a 30 minute job. Mr Hughes said it will cost 100 for diagnosis... So they changed us 500. The pump they put in made noise for a while.. never again..........how can this guy sleep at night....

Roughly a month ago my husband's 04 dodge ram 3500 had a water pump go out on us. We had no way of moving it without it over heating and causing more damage then what was wrong with it already. We looked online and saw Hughes automotive which was about 1.5 miles away from where the truck broke down, great they also had a contract with a towing service wonderful. Today we finally got my husband's dodge out of the shop and realized there was damage done to the body, clearance light, greasy oily finger prints in the backseat, and let's not forget that both batteries were completely dead ( also know now that truck has sat for 2 1/2 months fired right up no issues.) My husband and I will be going back to get answers for the damage and why he had to call before hand and let them know that he was coming. Never had an automotive shop ask to call ahead before picking up your property. Not happy with everything that has happened and me nor my husband will be a returning customer!!!!!!! The only reason why I'm rating 1 star is so I can post my review I give that place a big fat 0!!!!!!

I had a check engine light come on for the second time in three months and it reported a faulty O2 sensor. I had just change the sensor a few months ago. I took it to Hughes Automotive they found a wire trouble in no time. They fixed me right up and I was ready to go! Great service and will return.

Was referred by an acquaintance as I suddenly sprung a severe fuel line leak. From Boston, a year in the area, had no mechanic relationship for this emergency repair. Showed up late morning on a Friday the weekend before Christmas. Left the car for a diagnosis. 3 hours later, needed approval to tackle the fuel line that if they couldn't repair, would need to keep for the weekend and order parts, materials and labor that would exceed $600, and parts may not arrive until Tuesday. Gave them the go-ahead. 90 minutes later, they called to say it was done, offered to pick me up at the gym. I was home for the weekend with a repaired fuel line, rotated tires, and an oil change for just over $200. A sincere pleasure to get excellent friendly service with a creative repair that may have exceeded the factory delivered condition.
