Highly recommend!I just recently had to replace the transmission on a 2018 Honda Accord touring edition. The dealership originally quoted me more than $8800.00! I immediately put calls out to transmission shops in Texarkana and Ed not only responded within 15 minutes but he got the work done for half the price I was originally quoted! Furthermore, he was able to complete the work in less than one week and he even went to the dealership to pick up my car for me free of charge! There was only one downside, and that was not Ed's fault whatsoever in that, when using a credit card, he had to charge a surcharge (credit card company shenanigans and is normal when it comes to paying mechanic shops these days) but even then, he only recouped what he himself was charged. My wife and I were EXTREMELY pleased with the whole experience and, although we don't live in Texarkana, they will still be our transmission shop going forward.I'm not sure where some of these other reviews took their cars but their description doesn't even come CLOSE to what we experienced (I rather suspect they are the type of customer you hear about in those "customer states ______" YouTube videos) and, as someone who always prefers to turn the wrench himself whenever practical, I can tell you Ed earned not only our repeat business, but our deepest gratitude and highest respect and I would not hesitate to tell anyone to gives Cates a call and trust Ed's 40+ years of experience to fix your car correctly, and for a fair price.Again, HIGHLY RECOMMEND Cates Transmission!

I had my car towed here from De Queen, AR, because I was told that they could repair my transmission "in a couple of days." That was on a Wednesday. I called back two days later, on a Friday, just to check up on the progress of the repair. I was told that it was "possible" that my vehicle would be finished that day, but that the gentleman was going to come in on Saturday morning (when they're not usually open) to "finish it up." Because I have terrible phone service down here, I had to have my dad call them from North Dakota on that Saturday. He was told that they were going to finish it up that day and that they would give me a call when they were done. I never got a call. I figured that they were simply unable to finish it that day and that I would just have to wait until Monday. Kind of a pain, but whatever. It's a big job to rebuild a transmission, so I figured I'd give them the extra time. Today is Monday. I called over there at 9:30 this morning to ask about the status of my vehicle and was told that they "have no idea if it will be done today." "Okay," I said, "I have to check out of my hotel room at 11. Am I safe to gather my things and get a cab over there?" "I don't know. I'll call you back in a couple of hours." I had to reserve yet another night at my hotel because they still "have no idea" when they will be finished.I chose to have my car towed down here from the small town of De Queen because I was told very matter-of-factly that my car would be repaired in a couple of days. It has now been five days, and I've been dealing with three days of, "We have no idea when we'll be done." I understand that this type of repair takes a while, but I wish they would have had the courtesy of giving me an HONEST repair time when I first talked to them.I'm still sitting here in my hotel room with NO IDEA when my car will be repaired. They were supposed to call back with a cost estimate, too, and they can't even be bothered to do that.This is some of the worst service I've ever received. Steer clear of this place.

Paid 6000.00 for a new motor for my 2002 classic mustang. And several issues of going back. A/C wont work did before. We dont know whats wrong they said. Told. My son to put about 1000 miles on it and they would do first one free. . huh. Cost me nearly 60.00. Spark plug cover kept coming off and the car was missing all the time carried it back and the put it back on 2 -3 different times and finally instead of putting on new on they used a zip tie to keep it on. Didnt fill lines and fluid back. Sad sad i wish i could get 1/2 of my money back for a half a. . job.

Awful experience. Cates lied numerous times. He kept our truck for 9 months and it still wasn't fixed! We had to take him to court to get our truck fixed and even then he disobeyed the judge's order. DO NOT take your truck to Cates to get it fixed unless you don't want it done right.

Shop was "broken into" all that was stolen was my car.It would be ok if the shop had insurance. Or would pay the judgements in texas against him like I and others have.Dont take anything there that you want back.

Mr.Cates personally gave me a ride to my hotel after my car had broken down and promptly ordered my car part which arrived early the next morning. Good price and good people. Highly recommend.

We have had 4 vehicles fixed at cates transmission they were always frendly and curtiousand the work done was outstanding i will bring all my transmissions to them

The owner Ed does not know what he is doing. Do work and not give an estimated. Holds your car hostage. Do not bring your vehicle here

It's been a great pleasure doing business with cates transmission & Auto repair there has not been an issue that I brought to them they have not been able to resolve from my BMW to my Silverado pick up

Went there a couple of days ago and asked the nice guy about my 2011 impala and he checked it out and didn't charge me one red dime I will return for him to service my vehicle.
