Phenomenal experience! I have a 2016 Infiniti QX50 and the thermostat started getting hot. Got my oil checked to see if it was the coolant. It sure was,there was a leak. They told me not to drive it. We found Larry s place and it was super close to where I was so I took a chance and drove over. When I say best experience at an auto mechanic, I mean it. I drove up, he immediately got to work on my car, had an estimate before the end of day and totally repaired and ready to go by the next day. He had to replace the radiator. Fair price and so knowledgeable. I don t know anything about cars and he spoke to me so I could understand what was going on. Lol! Excellent work and customer service! We will be going back to Larry at Japanese Auto repair for life!

I ve owned accords for over twenty years. I ve passed this place hundreds of times without ever stopping. Don t make that mistake. This guy is genuine and fair. He does it right. Let him take care of you.

I called and left Larry a message regarding my son's car. He returned my call the next morning, and we were able to get the car in that same day. My son is at Texas State in San Marcos, so I thought I would need to drive there to assist with this.Nope! Larry worked with him on the diagnosis and did not try to take advantage of his lack of knowledge or BS him. This will be our son's mechanic moving forward! I got my rear brake rotors resurfaced and a full brake job from this guy and he did a great job! It's been a few months and still no noise. Also, he won't ever try and scam you. He is honest and a nice mechanic. I even called a few days ago to see how much he would charge to fill up my tires with air since most of the gas station air pumps were broken in the area and he laughed and said "why would anyone charge you for that" and did it for free. Larry is awesome. I've been bringing cars to him for over 10 years - Mazda 626, Ford F-150, Toyota Sienna, Honda Odyssey. He's always done a fantastic job, no complaints from me what-so-ever. I've never walked out of his shop dissatisfied w/ his work. More than fair price, doesn't try to sell unnecessary repairs, honors his parts & service warranties w/ out even being asked...and he's saved me literally thousands of dollars on major repairs. I will continue to use and recommend him as a trustworthy, quality mechanic.

This guy is awesome! I called all around San Marcos to get my ac fixed. I was quoted over a $1600 from every shop and told that there were probably other problems than the ac. I go here and the guy gives me a super low price, no extra charges or hidden fees. And fixes my ac to where I have to turn it down cause it s too cold! This guy does the best work in San Marcos hands down. He also has a great guitar collection. Really cool guy!Service: Air conditioning

Straightforward and honest auto repair. Larry is a machine and runs just about everything at the shop.He had my Scion diagnosed in 5 minutes and had the alternator replaced in less than 24 hours.Definitely will come back here for routine maintenance of my Scion while I'm living here in the SM area.

Does not keep regular hours, is often closed during the day so it's hard to talk to him. Doesn't return messages promptly. Either he lied about fixing my son's car, or his repair lasted only 10 seconds because we had the exact same engine code and issue before we even left his parking lot! Was extremely rude to talk to and deal with. Made incredibly insensitive and rude comments about my wife who died during the time we were dealing with Larry, yet at the same time tried to use HIS wife's minor injury as an excuse for his lack of communication and work. We ended up taking our car to the local Honda dealership where they diagnosed and repaired the problem properly. It's now fixed. Avoid Larry and this shop!Services: Auto engine diagnostic, Engine repair

Excellent mechanic. Had trouble with my Mazda and took it up to this location to have it repaired. Larry is a great guy: quality work, timely completion, fair prices. A man would be insane to ask for anything more. I give 5/5 stars.

I could not be happier. Larry did a super job on my 2008 Lexus GX470 replacing the front axles and doing a brake job. His prices were fair and the work seems to be exceptional. Highly recommended. I will be back next time my SUV needs work. I drove from Austin and dropped it off. It was worth the trip.

Larry has been working on all my vehicles for over 20 years. Always fair and efficient. I sell motor oil to car shops and believe me ... most ARE crooks. Larry has always done an excellent job and I will always drive from New Braunfels to San Marcos for Larry s work.

Larry is the man! I 100% trust him to always take car of my car and my wallet. I was worried about finding a repair shop for my car when I moved out to San Marcos, because my family has been using the same place for over 15 years back home... but Japanese Auto Repair has been as exceptional and treated me wonderfully. I truly recommend this place!

My family and friends have used Larry's repair shop on our vehicles numerous times over the years. Prices are always fair when compared to big dealerships and the turnaround time is great!! I cannot give enough praises to this shop!!

I have taken my cars for repairs here for over 20 years. Two of them are still well-running 2002 models that continue being serviced here.. Never had any problems. The best you will ever find. Be patient though, as the repair volume is usually high. Competent, independently owned auto repair shops will soon become extinct, so appreciate this one!.

These guys did an excellent job replacing my transmission on my 1998 Honda. The price was reasonable and when I had a problem with the replacement transmission they fixed the problem promptly with no charge to me. The car is running GREAT! I will go back to them again in the future with any work that needs to be done to my car and would recommend anyone to them for quality work at a good price.

I really like this place. We have two cars; a '98 Acura, and a '02 Lexus. I trust these guys to work on both cars, and they do a great job. Value isn't everything, but for me it's important, and this place is very competitive when it comes to price. I've had them quote half the price of other places before.If you want a complimentary loaner car, or you'd like to watch TV on a leather couch, you should go to the dealer. However, if you drop your car off, and you don't want to get taken to the cleaners, I highly recommend this place.There's no pressure to get expensive work done, and they will talk to you straight. The two guys I've dealt with there have always been helpful in telling me what's wrong with my car. When my A/C clutch was going out and making a bad noise, they told me what it was, and they didn't pressure me to get if fixed because it was expensive, and it worked.

Japanese Auto Repair has done excellent work on our two older Hondas. Larry has been very skilled at diagnosing a variety of problems (e.g., oil leak, clutch failure, electrical issues) and fixing them quickly for a fair price. Highly recommended.

Larry (the owner) is very down-to-earth and no BS. Tell him what's up and he'll tell you what you need. Not a crook, not a creep, just a great, ASE mechanic who knows Japanese automobiles inside and out. Highly recommended!

This place is absolutely fantastic! They are always so sweet, and straight to the point about what needs to be done with your vehicle. Larry is a down to earth guy who will gladly help you out. He s given me advice and when Pep Boys said they could only use a dealership fuel pump and wanted to charge us $1500 he said he could use another fuel pump and the cost would be about 1/3 of what Pep Boys wanted to charge us.

Called the shop and needed to tow my car in and he said he was booked for weeks so he referred me to another shop-- liked the team-playership in the shop owner.
