I drove into West Avenue Automotive and Transmission because the usual garage I use was booked until next week; my wife was taking our car on a 500 mile trip in two days. This shop used to be a transmission repair shop only, but now works on everything except tires and alignment.I was pleasantly surprised. It's not a large garage but had enough work bays to accommodate me in less than an hour. The mechanic who worked with me politely told me the air filter looked a little dirty and should be changed soon. Translation: it looked awful and had not been changed in a long time. When I changed it at home, it looked even worse!Four quarts of Mobile 1 and I was good to go. It cost less than I expected, and the mechanic asked if I were military, which knocked off another 5%, which always helps.I've driven past this garage for several years without ever stopping. The waiting room was clean and offered Kurig Coffee: that makes them a keeper.Based on my experience today, I highly recommend West Avenue Automotive and Transmission. It's not far from Walker Ranch Park on West Avenue.Update: 12/27/2023. They do annual state vehicle inspections, too.Update: 3/27/2023. Oil change for my truck.Update: 9/18/2023. Running a sale on tires.Update, 12/9/2023. Business is growing.

A little story time but it s worth reading! This happened in 2022.Me and my family were traveling from our home state North Carolina to Mexico when our Tahoe broke down in San Antonio due to transmission issues. The office and mechanics went above and beyond to help us. They immediately figured out the problem and fixed it within 2 1/2 days. We were still able to continue our trip safe and sound. We are so thankful for their service and hope they continue providing San Antonio with the best service and care! Thanks to y all our Tahoe still runs smooth!

Brought my suv to get transmission fluid change and their engine inspection which was advertised on the website. Transmission was serviced with a new filter, gasket, and fluid. Along with that they gave me a thorough inspection on everything that needed replacing on my vehicle.(spark plugs, coil packs, valve cover gasket, Engine motor mounts, transmission motor mounts along with front brakes) my car needed some serious help and now it run perfectly again. Definitely would recommend this shop to my family or friends to get work done in a timely matter.

Major issue with Grandson s F150 (2006) - losing oil so fast can t keep level up. Took the truck back to West Automotive because had had work done on that truck there and knew they would be able to diagnose problem. West had good reviews too, so took it there. Marvin , the manager took all information about the oil leak and said he would call uas as soon as he could identify the problem. When he called us to report his findings, he explained the the problem , recommended the repair, the time it would take and gave us estimate. That allowed us to figure out what we needed todo to compensate for not having his truck. We agreed for the fix. Marvin called with specifics about problem as they got further into look found additional problem. Marvin explained what was needed with estimate to fix it. He did exactly what he said he would do . And called us to let us know work was done but needed more time to test & drive to make sure no leaks.There were no surprises of additional costs. He called when he felt adequate test drive done. When we picked it up he complimented Grandson on clean engine because he was taking care of truck. That was important. He explained everything done & that all was warrantied for a year. Marvin was personable and professional.Needles to say that not only is West Automotive our Grandson s go to for mechanic work but now for rest of family!!!Service: Engine repair

These guys are honest mechanics, i took my truck yesterday at 8 am there had been a weird metal banging sound under the cabin. they called me a few hours later and told me the issue, i googled the parts prices and their price was fair and square. I got a full inspection (120 point inspection) as well.before going there i looked into the reviews, and I think they've earned my positive review.. thank you Marvin, i've found my new mechanics shop

Marvin is knowledgeable, explains what's going on with your vehicle, and has great overall customer service skills. He was willing to work with me and even my dad over the phone while I was at work and couldn't answer questions about my vehicle, which relieved so much stress from an already stressful situation. They work fast and are honest. So I went here a pretty long time ago. It was the beginning of 2022 and I got my clutch replaced there with an aftermarket one. They finished my clutch eventually and I picked up my car and left. Everything was fine the first few days, but eventually it started to give me issues on startupI contacted them and they let me know that it wasn't an issue with the starter, and that they bench tested the starter and everything, but it was still having the issue. I had the starter on warranty from them since they replaced the starter telling me that it was the starter when it wouldn't start initially.This problem prolonged until eventually my car wouldn't start at all one day. I took it to Hyundai where they told me that the problem was due to whoever installed my clutch not doing so properly and the starter was messed up because of that. They had to replace the starter and the car was working again. So I'm not sure if West Ave was putting in faulty starters, putting the starter in incorrectly, or if it was both.I paid the price of a starter just to have to spend more money later at Hyundai for them to diagnose my vehicle, try things to fix it, and eventually add a starter even after West Ave insisted it wasn't a starter issue.

Fast, fair and affordable. Would highly recommend this auto shop! Chuck was very professional, very helpful & had great prices. We were driving through SA heading to a camping site and we thought our transmission was going out due to overheating. We are not from here, so I looked for a shop and came across West Ave Automotive & Transmission. We choose this shop because of his reviews. I called him and he told me come on it, we will take care of you and that they did. He got us in and out in 3 hours (he was busy). He was very honest and told us that we just needed: a transmission fluid and filter change and serviced front and back differentials. Not to mentioned he was very patient with my kids and our puppy Bella. He interacted with us making us feel welcomed and safe. Thank you Chuck and Daniel for a wonderful experience!

I usually don t rate places, but this one truly deserves it. I got amazing customer service. My car was overheating and I was hesitant to take it to a mechanic shop, because of how they typically overcharge for small minority problems. This place gave me a reasonable price and finished within a reasonable time. My car is up & working! I will continue coming to get my car serviced!I had high hopes for this place cause they fixed my issue and 3 days later the same issue came up. I will not be coming back. I called for information on my car issue and the mechanic was very helpful and friendly so I took my car in by 9 am. They got it repaired faster than I though (by lunch instead of 6pm) and a great price too. I will be telling my friends and will go back for future issues. Over priced, horrible, charged me 3x the normal amount just to put on missing studs, even though I provided the parts and was only supposed to be paying for labor. Do not go here, i suggest somewhere more welcoming and professional like break check, I asked for the same service and charged me just over 100 bucks for the same service. Fast and professional for a great price, don't come here for your car needs.

I wish there were more people like the owners at west ave automotive .chuck and marvin are great guys with fair pricing and great quality work. I would highly recommend this shop above all others. all my car and work truckrepairs will be done here from now on. Outstanding service. Thank you

Marvin is always so kind and helpful. The prices are reasonably. He waited past closing time to allow me the time I needed yo pick up my car. Great service and great staff. The technician I ve encountered so far are all polite. One time a technician came to pick me up to get my car. Above and beyond!!!

I took my truck here because it wouldn't shift into 3rd or fourth. They seemed interested in the repairs at first. I was very open about the fact that the truck had a few issues that I could see. They told me it would be a free estimate. They had the truck for two weeks before they finally looked at it. The person on the phone kept asking me how much money I wanted to spend on it. They told me it needed a new transmission and a bunch of other work. They wouldn't give me an estimate and just asked me what I wanted to spend. He finally convinced me by saying the truck was a money pit and then charged me for the diagnostic and I had it towed to a different shop to do the work.I can appreciate telling me it's not worth my time but ultimately I wanted the truck repaired. They looked at the truck days before I called but never called me to talk to me about it. When I called, they seemed annoyed I was even asking. It became pretty clear that they just did not want the job. I was open about the truck needing work so they wasted my time and money. Never even got an estimate.Ultimately I was looking for a transmission shop for all of four of my vehicles. The truck had sentimental value and I took it to a different shop for all the work.

My big brother highly recommended West Ave to work on the brakes for my 2009 Toyota Camry and I am so very happy I listened to him. My brakes were in desperate need of repair. West Ave did an incredible job, with quality service, and honest and excellent prices. My car was even ready before it was promised. Wow. It feels amazing to feel safe on the road again. As a single woman caring for my terminally ill mother, every penny counts. I want to pay for quality work that is needed and not feel taken advantage of. All I have to say is I Trust this place the guys here are honest and reasonable with prices verses other companies that will over charge you?? Well not here. I came in today because my light engine came on. They reset my check engine light and told me if it comes on again then there's a chance it can be my cat converter because I had been given the code P0420 and he knew what they meant. I've had my transmission flushed here and my car is running great. Thanks Matt and all crew .

I had an excellent experience with West Ave Automotive & Transmission! They were very friendly and willing to give me the best possible pricing and service. I had called other automotive repair shops for estimates on the pricing and their prices were outrageous. I then called West Ave Automotive & Transmission and over the phone he gave me a reasonable estimate and was willing to look at my car free of charge to get a better understanding of the problem. The service provided was exceptional from beginning to end. They did a tremendous job with my vehicle going above and beyond by keeping me constantly updated on the process and the options I had for repair. They even took the time to explain to me exactly what the problem was. Great customer service, pricing, and overall experience. My car is working great and I now have no problems with it. I would highly recommend them and I am glad I now have a repair shop in SA I will always go to!

I took my 03 Ranger with 250k miles in for transmission repair, and power steering service and I could not have made a better decision! The repairs were done at a fair competitive price and in a timely manner. I was kept informed of all the details trough out the process.Rex the master technician is extremely knowledgeable no nonsense and gets the problem fixed right. The owners Greg and Desi are the Kind and honest Truly care about their customers and how their business is run.I will differently be returning with my other vehicles and recommending my family and friends.

I don't have enough nice words to say about this place. Greg and Desi are amazing people. I was a skeptic and now I am a believer. I was very concerned when I went in to inquire about my transmission being fixed. They put me at ease and explained everything I needed to know. They did everything possible to accommodate me and their prices are right on track. I spoke to another employee while they were out and he was just as kind and helpful. These people are class acts! I won't go anywhere else ever again! I am certain you would have the same experience! Don't go anywhere else!

I moved back to San Antonio recently and found West Ave Automotive. I have been going to them for almost a year now and they have been wonderful to work with. Greg, Desi and Rex have been honest and have gone the extra mile with me. They have worked on multiple cars for me and I have been pIeased with their service every time. Especially when I brought my old-school 1986 Chevy truck in and their experienced mechanics were knowledgeable and got it running great when other mechanics couldn't. I also like how they always manage to get me in pretty quickly, even though at times they have many people coming in. Exceptional service and good people. Would recommend them!

Thank you Gregg for all your hard work. We have brought 2 vehicles in to west avenue automotive and the service we recieved has been beyond stellar. Both of our cars are running great and at a fair and reasonable charge. Again, words can not describe how satisfied we are and how grateful we are to you Gregg and your family. Great crew of mechanics. If you need some mechanical work done, give them a chance . you wont be disappointed.

Aside from unavoidable delays due to parts availability this shop, Matt in particular, took very good care of me and my vehicle. He clearly explained everything, including the delay issues. When the replacement part price suddenly increased, West Ave. Automotive even ate part of the cost. My 12 year old SUV runs like new now. Could not be much happier.

Great service and quality repair shop. They replaced the transmission on my 2010 Ford Explorer (200,000 plus miles), a cracked heater hose assembly, front stabilizer sway bar, and the gearshift lever assembly. It's like I have a new car. I know that if there is any issue with repairs they have done, I will be able to call and they will take care of the problem. It's nice to have a locally owned, trustworthy place to take my car. The owners are friendly, knowledgeable, and best of all, in the shop everyday to take care of their customers.Services: Transmission, Steering & suspension repair

Extremely understanding and friendly owners. I initially had my car towed there for a transmission work. After made a payment for diagnosis work (which would go toward the total cost of fixing the transmission), my brother and I called them numerous times within one day asking them about the status of the service while we looking for old transmission from other people to replace ours. We finally settled to sell the car to a buyer as is and the owners (Desi and Greg) refunded me the money without giving me any hard time. They are pleasant, honest people to do business with. Thank you Desi and Greg!

These guys were super great!!! We had a burned out backup light bulb we needed replaced in order to get the inspection and afterwards the registration sticker. As you know cars of today don't make it simple get to these light bulbs. Well, I'm still a ways away from healing completely after my hospital stay. These guys changed the bulb for Rachel and me and did not charge us. I hope we don't have a serious car problem but if/when we do they will have our business. Thank you so much guys!!!

DON'T BE AFRAID!! All right, Ladies!! If you're anything like me, having something go wrong with your car is terrifying because you're scared that you'll be ripped off, hoodwinked, and left out to dry, and, in the end, the car still won't be fixed. It's simply NOT going to happen here! Not only are the mechanics at West Ave. Automotive & Transmission the most knowledgeable and talented mechanics around, but they are also the most honest. The Snell's are good people of incredible integrity who value ethics more than gold - and here's a bonus: they beat everyone else on price as well. They are interested in building a business on hard work and community rather than money-making schemes.So, no matter where you are in the city or its surroundings, it's worth the drive to bring your baby to the capable and caring hands of Greg, Desi, Rex, and company. You will be so VERY happy that you did! By the way, if the work is extensive and leaves you without transportation, they have a good deal with a nearby rental agency that will be very reasonable.Relax and breathe. You've found the right place! : )

Best in town! Everyone here from the workers to the owners are friendly and caring. They take the time to explain everything they are doing and make sure you are set before you leave. In the past I've been treated like a young girl going to places for my car and made to feel like the problem is in my head, but not once have they ever made me feel like a bother or a child that doesn't know anything. Greg and Desi really have a great business and do all they can.

REX and the crew at this place did a great job for my transmission. They showed us exactly what was wrong with my transmission before they did anything, and they even showed me where the car dealership used glue to try to fix a major problem waiting to happen. They go out of their way to have your car back with confidence that it'll be working great. They even helped fixed a few extra things since insurance was helping me with coverage. So glad we chose them to help us and highly recommend.
