Was helped by Tom and Bert. Both very friendly and very reasonable. Had my transmission rebuilt here, along with a few others things that needed attention, and all the work was done in a timely manner and with great quality. Will definitely be bringing my vehicles here for work in the future. Great bunch of people working here

I recently went to Bert s Gene Brown Transmission to get a wellness check on my aging car. If you're like me and don't know much about cars, the first thing you're looking for in a mechanic is honesty and genuineness. I spoke with the owner, Mr. Bert Ayala. Right away, I could tell that he was a stand up guy. He carefully listened to all my concerns and assured me that he would personally take a test drive to access the state of my car. Boy am I glad I went to this place! He gave me a list of things that were of both immediate attention to my 14 year old Mazda as well as a list of things that would need to be fixed in the near future. I think the thing I'm most appreciative of is that he was very honest with me about the things he thought were necessary for my own safety in my vehicle while also letting me know what I can expect down the road. He could've easily told me to fix a million things but he was very direct on prioritizing all the issues. He gave me an estimated life span of my car before I would have to put more money in it than it was worth. As someone with a strict budget, I was super appreciative of his transparency. I walked out of there with my car in much better shape and without spending and arm and a leg. I don't normally write reviews but I wanted to be sure to let all my San Antonio people know that if you want a great mechanic that isn't going to take advantage of you, you MUST give these guys a shot. If you have the same experience, please write a review and let your friends know. These guys deserve it!

I selected Bert's Gene Brown Transmission based off of the reviews I had seen; I was not disappointed. They were extremely helpful and easy to work with and willing to meet my timeline for availability. They were very transparent with what to expect, and the prices of parts and labor were good. I highly recommend this shop for transmission repairs.

I have to say mega thanks to the gentleman that helped me with checking out my vehicle today. He is very respectful and professional. I'm no car expert so I sadly cannot speak on the work of the car I imagine it's well cause my vehicle is no longer doing what it was before coming to them. They are good about calling with updates and speak to you kindly which means a lot to a person that has no idea what they're doing when it comes to that line of expertise. They showed patience with me and my father's many questions which that too means a lot, some shops tend to be in rush mode and don't spend just that extra minute to build that trust that many people struggle with in car shops. (Just something I've struggled with in my past) So again thank you very much.

"I love to take my car to the mechanic", said no one ever. BUT if you have to I would definitely *beyond a shadow of a doubt* recommend this place. Service here is exceptional and I always recommend this place to anyone needing vehicle services, not just with the transmission either. I am truly thankful I found this place and have been able to trust the services a few times now. Thanks Guys!

It was about as easy as you could get working with Gene Brown Transmission. They provided a wrecker service to pick my vehicle up and deliver it, gave me an upfront cost and stuck to their word. They also delivered my vehicle in the timeframe that it was promised. I ve had it for almost a month now and everything seems to be working great.

Bert's Gene Brown Transmission was suggested as the best place to get my son's transmission repaired. Amazingly, they were on the approved shop list by the vehicle warranty company. Tony, Service Manager was excellent in working directly with them to ensure that work to be covered was indeed covered, ensured repairs were 100% and kept me updated on the repair status. I am so thankful. No stress on my end!

I originally took my F-150 to Jordan Ford (do NOT take anything to this dealership, worst service ever!). They had it for over a month and didn't even look at it, so I got fed up and called Tony at Bert's Gene Brown. Tony and his team had my truck on the lift to diagnose the problem within a couple days. My truck's transmission works like new again. The service and professionalism that I received at Gene Brown completely blew the dealership out of the water! Would highly recommend Bert's Gene Brow Transmission

These guys are so professional and experts in their trade! Their team was very considerate and understanding of my situation. They were able to troubleshoot the problem with the transmission on my 2016 Chevy Silverado, order what they needed and rebuild my transmission in such a short timeframe as well as just in time for my family and I to take it on a very important trip! This meant so much to my family and I letting us know that they care a lot about their customers. Their team consists of honorable and professional military veterans, and being a retired veteran myself, they took very good care of me and my truck. They worked with my wife and I to make sure we got the best price and service. I am extremely grateful that I took my truck here!! I trust them and will definitely use them in the future!!!

Top notch customer service from start to finish. Tony took amazing care of me and my car. Had a full rebuild on my Cadillacs transmission. He was very knowlegable , and communicated with me the entire time. I would highly recommend this company if you want great service, top notch work and fair prices. So glad I found this shop.

These guys are the best!! Red carpet treatment from the moment I left my car with them. Even cleaned my car nicely when I picked it up. I dropped it off late on a Friday and it got put inside the shop before they closed up for the weekend. Needed a new clutch and was advised by Tony that I had an aftermarket clutch in the car and should get another since oem would be a step down from what I had. They found the vibration I ve been hunting in my drivetrain and replaced my driveshaft with one that I provided without charging labor for it. During test-drive, they discovered I needed a new alternator and replaced it with one I provided so I could save a few bucks.I picked up my 30 year-old car and drove it 280 miles to Fort Worth straight from the shop and I d do it again!Services: Transmission, General repairs & maintenance, Electrical

BGBT has the absolute best customer service I have ever experienced with an auto mechanic. I was new to SA when I contacted them (in October this year) about the problems my vehicle (2007 Honda Accord) was having. Although they were filled with other vehicles, they still made space to work on my car and was able to finish in a timely matter. Not only that, but they caught an additional issue I was not aware of. Luckily they did, because the issue was very significant (I needed to have all of my engine mounts replaced because they were not installed correctly). Most importantly, not once did I feel like they were trying to get over on me due to my lack of vehicle knowledge, but actually wanted to ensure my car was problem free. For as long as I am in SA, I will not take my vehicle to any other mechanic besides BGBT.

Bert's Gene Brown Transmission does more than transmissions! We were very satisfied with the work done on my Sequoia. The team is professional and knowledgeable and did the work fast. Highly recommend!

I had a whirring sound that sounded like a bad wheel bearing. I had taken my car to a different mechanic first, and they thought it was the axle bearing or a bearing on the output shaft of the transmission. They sent me to Bert s Gene Brown and their shop diagnosed the issue correctly and fixed it promptly.Turns out it was a bad wheel bearing after all.Prompt service, correct diagnosis, and good communication were much appreciated.

The best service/customer support I ve received from an auto shop. I thought my transmission was slipping. They told me it was plugs, wires & coils. Offered to replace only the coils needed to help with the cost. Then while on the test drive (at no fault of theirs) a rock chipped the windshield. They replaced it for free on my schedule. (Had their guy come to my house).Fair pricing, excellent work, above & beyond service & honesty. These are your guys.

My transmission on my 03 Tahoe went out after 240k miles. I called up Tony and he was able to get me in and take care of everything I needed. Everyone was very communicative and very helpful. Heard there was a change of management but seems things still the same as years before: We re so busy I dont even wanna look up whether or not you wanna pay me for that work or not. when I called about getting a starter replaced. After I said I didnt mind waiting to bring my car in five days or more later, when Tony said his first opening would be, he took my number and said he would price out the job and call me back.Its been two weeks and Im still (not actually) waiting.If you cant return a call when someone is trying to GIVE you money over another shop, at least have the decency to not take my number. I for one appreciate good service AND dont have friends or family to drive me around, no backyard mechanic, its just me and me alone, so I was really counting on a professional working relationship with a highly rated shop.As it went? My business went to Kastis; manager there was above and beyond. Thanks Tony for not wanting my business but no thanks to wasting my time.

These guys changed the transmission in my car about 2 years ago, they were able to get me a good deal on a used replacement for my car. They did a great job, in the 2 years since they replaced the transmission I haven't had any issues.

This place is awesome. I used this place in all my cars esp. with my 2001 Lexus RX 300 with 288K miles & still my Lexus works perfectly very good as if it s a brand new car. Staff esp Tony is very knowledgeable, professional & price is reasonable. Inspite I live in NW area, it s worth driving. There s so many Gene s Brown Transmission branches in San Antonio but this is the best & what is being promised, it s fulfilled. I highly recommend this place, don t even hesitate to check with others, it s a waste of time, they just need your money & long time to get back your car. Received news about my vehicle that seemed insurmountable. Anytime you hear transmission issues for a 13 year old car, you see the writing on the wall. However, I was given the information to Bert s Gene Brown Transmission and I figured I d give the a call. From the moment I called, I received the most honest answers. They were willing to check my car out and if it made sense, they would give me their honest opinion and suggestion. Turned out that I didn t need a transmission at all, and they were able to bring my vehicle back to life. Their honest assessment probably saved me nearly 5K. I brought my car in after taking it to other mechanics. I was looking at a $2,000.00 repair with another shop. Bert diagnosed my car and found the problem to be a bad strut. Bert provided me a quote and the repair was made. My car was ready and paid the quote I was given. Bert and his staff are honest, trustworthy mechanics. I saved a lot of money going to Bert's shop. They did a really good job on my transmission ,,out of 10 people. I ve asked about my transmission and they were the only ones to tell me to get a new one instead of rebuilding it and it was cheaper ,, really good price. Good quality work and didn t take long

A good friend in the auto business recommended Bert s...and I couldn t be happier. Bert, Steve, and Tony worked as a team to discuss, clarify, and resolve every aspect of the service they provided on my 2004 Mazdaspeed Miata. They communicated with me throughout the process, and made only the repairs that were necessary. Terrific, competent, high-value service...very competitively priced. Then, to top it off, I received a call from Stephanie, who was checking to see that all was well. This company and its people are honest, reputable, and professional. Trust me...you won t be sorry.

My mom had a noise coming from under the hood of her Ford Explorer when accelerating. Called Bert's and they were able to get it in the next day. They were able to determine it was coming from the transfer case that day & were able to further trouble shoot the issue & have it repaired in under a week. Quality work & friendly staff. I would highly recommend this shop to anyone looking for a honest repair shop that doesn't over charge!! The work even comes with a warranty!Services: Transmission, General repairs & maintenance

Wanted to wait a while to write a review after getting my transmission completely replaced for my 2014 5.3 chevy silverado. Bert Gene browns transmission shop did a great job. They got my chevy back on the road and running great. Tony, the manager, stayed in contact with me and updated me on every step. They tried to see if they could rebuild it, but too much was damaged so we ordered a remanufactured transmission. They got it swapped out as soon as it got in. I've been driving my truck for over a month now with no transmission issues. They also warrantied their work. Thanks guys.
