Nathan and his brothers took great care of us !! Not only did they do a great job and got us on the road again but they were extremely efficient and got the job done in a quick amount of time. They were very communicative and also a very kind group of guys. Do not hesitate to come here if you have any transmission issues. Highly recommended

We took our 2013 Mazda 2 in because we were advised the rough shimmy at higher speeds was probably a transmission issue. Nat drove with my son and said the transmission was fine and pointed us in the right direction and he charged nothing for the diagnosis and his expertise. If we have a transmission issue, we will be back. It is refreshing to deal with a professional who is more concerned about customer service than just making money. This is the way to build loyalty and trust and truly build a business.

Gray s transmission was great during the whole process. Nathan kept in contact with me every step of the way. Even when Ford sent the wrong parts, Gray s took the time to make it right. Working with a service plan provider can be difficult at times, but Nathan made sure they did their part too! I recommend Gray s for your transmission!Service: TransmissionService: Transmission

My husband went in to talk to the staff. Not sure who he talked to, but the man who helped him was pleasant, knowledgeable, and gave him a quote very quickly. If the small repair we do doesn't work, we're definitely bringing it here for a transmission rebuild.

If I could leave more stars I would. While on a road trip my car started having transmission issues. We were referred to Grays by another mechanic and we are so thankful that they did.We showed up to Grays early Monday morning just after they opened and were immediately greeted by Nathan. Mr. Nathan took care of us the entire time, and excellently explained the issues we were having in an amazingly clear and comforting way. I ve never had a car issue so clearly explained in my life. Having a clear explanation was such a blessing considering our situation.Thank y all so much!

On a road trip back home going from TX to CO, our Nissan Juke started having suspicious transmission issues and codes that were roughly made out by Meineke in a pretty alarming way saying with too much certainty that we would need to replace the transmission which would be incredibly expensive for us. When seen by Nathan, he was very clear, thorough, knowledgeable, honest, friendly, and put himself in our shoes throughout the process of checking out the transmission with his computer and taking it for a test run on the highway. He explained the overall quite minor problem in a well-rounded way that was very easy to understand and certainly not dramatized like the notion we came into his shop with. It was a great experience getting our car assessed here and would highly recommend Nathan and this business.

Nathan and his crew are very professional, friendly and accommodating. I had transmission problems with my R-V on my truck 800 miles from home. I was able to spend a night in my R-V so he could work on it the next day.It turned out to be an electrical problem and another technician was recommended to diagnose the problem. Thanks again Nathan.Aaron Bazor

Our truck broke down as were traveling through Texas on our way to AZ. I made a call to Grays and within minutes Clarks towing was on their way to take us to Grays. Our transmission was beyond repair. This was mid afternoon.Travis explained our options and after discussions we decided on a new GM warranteed one that had to come from Austin. After helping us find a dog friendly hotel Travis drove us there and made sure we were ok for the night. The next day he kept in touch with us, then picked us up and we were back on the road within 24 hours of our first call.As senior citizens it is always nice to see a family owned business that takes such good care of their customers. As bad as our situation was....they made it a good experience.Service: Transmission

I can't say enough good things about this place and this team. Nathan kept me updated throughout the process and was very thorough with the job.No one wants to deal with transmission issues BUT if you end up needing help, these people are amazing. And Nathan's mother who does their office administration is an absolute delight!

I went to this place based on reviews. I will say when I first pulled up I was a little weary. It wasn't the most welcoming looking place. The office is in a weird spot and the demeanor of the guys working did not match the welcoming nature of the gentleman I spoke to on the phone the afternoon before.I mostly dealt with Nathan. I dropped my truck off and it was looked at quickly. I had a check engine light, but no problems. He called me up and was honest with me about although there is a check engine light, he drove the truck around and there doesn't seem to be a problem and didn't want to work on it just because the reader says to. He gave me some advice, i took it, and I opted to pick up my truck towards the end of the day. I asked an out of state mechanic buddy and he said it was great advice and the job for the codes pulled up wasn't cheap. He was happy to see someone not take advantage. (I'm commonly a victim of higher pricing because im female and lack of upfront knowledge.)When I got there I was greeted outside and everyone was much friendlier than they were earlier. I think I just caught them first thing in the morning and everyone wasn't quiet up. I get it!Although I dont hope to be at the auto repair shop often, this place has my future business for sure.Service: Auto engine diagnostic

So I bought my dodge and before the third payment my transmission blew out in Robert Lee. Got it towed to a dealership who was useless so then I stumbled upon Grays Transmission.I told him what was going on he took on the cost of the tow from the dealership! I spoke to Nathan who was very nice and professional he sounded a little flustered but that was due to being very busy and adding my truck into the mix. I had it there on a Friday and got it back the next Wednesday. Fast turn around and very nice work. Fast forward about a year3/27/21 my trans was not performing right so I gave them a call to see if they could look at it and they had no problem. I get to San Angelo and the shop and walk in and everyone remembered me and my truck and asked how I ve been and were just very nice and genuine just like my first time there. I told them what was going on and they started working on it right away. I recommend them for anyone with any transmission issues this is one of the best shops and people I have ever met in my life if I could give 10 stars I would!!! Best shop in San Angelo hands down!Services: Transmission, Steering & suspension repair

I am basing my bad review of Gray s Transmission on two prominent factors: shoddy workmanship and unprofessional interactions with office manager Nathan Gray. I have lived in San Angelo most of my life and have proudly and loyally recommended Gray s Transmission to not only family and friends, but complete strangers. I have never been dissatisfied with their quality of work or professionalism until now. After having Gray s Transmission diagnose my pickup with a failed torque converter and subsequently changing out the converter with a new one, I continued to have issues with my transmission to the point that Nathan Gray was unsure what was happening with my transmission and reverted to a band-aid approach towards rectifying my transmission issues. After personal skepticism and a little bit of research, I decided to take my vehicle to another transmission shop. The other transmission shop was able to isolate and correctly repair the issue and advised me that the band-aid approach Nathan Gray recommended would have not fixed the issue but could have potentially lead to catastrophic failure of my transmission. The other transmission shop also discovered that my transmission (which holds 13.1 quarts of transmission fluid) was overfilled by 3.5 quarts which thankfully did not cause permanent damage to my transmission. After spending apx. $2,400 for a new torque converter for parts and labor with Gray s Transmission, I ended up spending an additional $3,867 with a different transmission shop to have my transmission overhauled due to residue left in my transmission from the failed clutch in the bad torque converter. Had Gray s transmission cleaned the residue left behind from the failed torque converter the overhaul could have been avoided.Upon completion of the repairs by the second transmission shop I drove to Gray s Transmission to speak to Nathan Gray. Mr. Gray s response was so shockingly atrocious that I was left feeling disrespected and physically and emotionally drained when I left. Mr. Gray immediately took a very emotionally defensive stance and he not only talked over me, he interrupted me, and his tone was aggressive and overbearing to the point I had to ask him to refrain from treating me that way, especially since I was not treating him that way. In the end he actually made a PHYSICALLY AGGRESSIVE stance towards my son who was with me. I was so completely shocked and appalled at his behavior that at one point was actually concerned that he was going to hit my son. I m still in SHOCK! So by no means would I EVER recommend Gray s Transmission to ANYONE and I am saddened by this as family and friends respectively have taken vehicles to them for over 20 years and have NEVER encountered such negligent work standards or unacceptable behavior from this business. If I could give a ZERO Stars, I would.Service: Transmission

*Potential Customers Beware*Unfortunately we must drop our long standing 5 Star rating of Gray s Transmission, to a 3 Star rating -due solely to ONE person- Family/Employee/Shop Manager, Nathan Gray.My Husband & I have recommended this business to MANY of our contacts over the last 10 years, as well as being repeat customers ourselves. However, that will no longer be the case, OR our recommendation will absolutely have to include advising them against any dealings whatsoever with Nathan Gray.As a whole, we honestly believe Gray s Transmission to be solid, their work trustworthy & 99% of the Family/Employees to be a pleasure to deal with. It is sincerely a shame that is no longer true of Nathan Gray, in our opinion, given our last repair experience (as of 12/18/18) which was a nightmare due to his complete lack of professionalism & utterly blatant disrespect towards us during our interactions over the last two weeks. We can no longer, in good conscience, EVER recommend anyone deal personally with him. That being said, IF you are able to avoid the one bad apple as it were, we do still very much believe Gray s Transmission -based on the rest of the staff, minus Nathan Gray- to be worthy of a full 5 Star, & well earned, rating.

Awesome nice staff! Took our classic car in for what we thought was going to be some pricey work, turns out wasn't hardly anything. Anywhere else we know we would've been charged an arm and leg. Not at Gray's! They just happily handed us the keys and said any future work to bring back our beautiful car! Service: TransmissionService: Transmission

This business and family is a blessing to San Angelo! I went in to see what was wrong with my transmission to get a second opinion.a previous transmission shop in San Angelo had quoted between two and four hundred dollars just to tell me what was wrong with it based on the computer.I went to Gray's transmission not only were they kind and understanding but they gave me the best service and explanation as to why I did not have to spend the two to $400 because it was not my transmission it was another component! I was charged nothing for this! They are friendly above all else they are a Christian family . I will always get my transmission service at Gray's if I need it in the future

I wouldn't take my vehicles anywhere else when it comes to transmission repairs, plus other repairs are available, depending on the problem your vehicle may be experiencing besides transmission issues. Nathan and his professional team gives you a great piece of mind and hope, knowing this business isn't out to nickel and dime their customers, but their goal is for you to leave as one happy and satisfied customer. I thank God for an honest and professional car care team that you can trust and rely on, and know you will be treated as one of their own. And if there's any problems after your vehicle is repaired, they will welcome you back with a smile, and not so you have to dig deeper in your pockets, but because they appreciate you trust them to correct any problems you may have encountered once they have completed their work. No one is perfect, but greys transmission is as close to perfection, and professionalism you will find in town. Grey's transmission is a God sent blessing to San Angelo and any one else that is in need of any transmission repair, doesn't matter how big or small the repair is, greys stands by their work and the many years they have been in business says a lot on its own. Thank you Nathan for treating me as family. God bless you and all at Grey's Transmission!!!

I broke down in the middle of nowhere, Texas on my cross-country move from Florida to Arizona. Had my car towed an hour and a half to Grays Transmission based on a glowing recommendation from our Tow Truck Driver. Nathan kept me informed and gave me options to what we needed to do rather than just quoting the most expensive route as some mechanics do. I am not familiar with transmissions and I asked his opinion as to what I should do. He ultimately left it up to me but gave his expert advice. Luckily what was quoted to possibly be a week setback ended up being 3 days and it was the lesser expense that was quoted. If you're looking for an HONEST and RELIABLE transmission repair shop, Gray's is where to go. I have never felt so confident and trusting to a mechanic in my life. They let me store my uhaul there while my car was being repaired and even helped me unload the uhaul into a rental. These people deserve all the "5 star reviews" one could ever possibly give. Now I'm just sad they're 10 hours away from my new home.... :)

The nicest family owned business!!! We thought our transmission was broken and instead of taking us for a ride they correctly diagnosed the problem and recommended us another quality mechanic. They were so kind and truly cared about us, even asking us to call them to let them know if everything worked out. HIGHLY recommend.

Took our car in thinking it was going to need a complete overhaul because of shifting problem and shuttering but they found a broken trans mount and need of servicing again. Problems solved. Cost me about 1/3 of what I was originally expected. Will return if need arises and recommend to others - HOWEVER - ignore any reviews from anyone with the last name of Gray - they work there. :)

I was told at a shop my transmission needed to be rebuilt based on a code it was throwing. I knew there were several things that could cause that code, I went to Gray's for second opinion. They got me fixed and out in a few hours and for a lot cheaper than a rebuild since the problem was in the valve body. Staff was professional and very helpful.

I was referred to Grays by a friend in San Angelo. They were very knowledgeable, fair and honest. I would use them again in a heartbeat...just good people. And, months later, my truck is still doing great.

Called and spoke to a representative that took my information to have a flat bed truck come to pick my car up at 10 AM in Ozona, TX for 300 dollars the next morning. I am stranded here with no where to stay except motels with no one that can work on an 05 Nissan Altima having transmission issues. Basically a no call and no show and I called repeatedly with no answer to my calls or others I had try at AAA towing and repair here in Ozona. I'm stranded here coming from Phoenix. Someone was able to answer my call after 11 AM saying it was phone issues and asked what happened to the person that was supposed to show at 10 AM to take my car there to have serviced and he just replied "someone dropped the ball".. nice business guys? Had to pay for another room and now waiting on another company to come from San Angelo to take pick my car up and have repaired. Never have I experienced a more incompetent place of business as Gray's Transmission..

These guys rate far above a 5 star rating. They go the extra mile without breaking a sweat to make sure the job is done properly and professionally and the cost is ALWAYS very reasonable. Not only that, these men are United States Marines!
