Super fun place to bike. I biked in 10 miles then back out. Can be windy and the trail does have slight inclines and declines. Nothing crazy. There are cactus/goat heads on the trail edge so keep your eyes peeled. I brought a little pump and patch kit. Didn't need it. Really No shade anywhere. So expect to be in sun. The tunnel is exactly 4.5 miles from parking. Up to tunnel is crushed limestone, after tunnel is pebble/small rocks on trail so can be bumpy.

We prefer to park here to ride the trail to Clarity Tunnel and beyond. There s a couple nice places to stop for lunch, but one is really good on hot sunny days. A decent size tree offers shade and isn t over grown. Make sure to stay vigilant so as to not disturb any snakes. We saw tons of lizards and a couple snakes, most snakes were in the morning hours before it got too hot. Also make sure you carry the necessary tools and equipment to repair flats. They do have pit latrines along the trail and water stations. I can t speak on the water or even if they had any in them because we always have plenty.Ultimately if you re looking for a place for long rides, this is the place for you.

Wow. Starting at Monk's Crossing, what a great way to get to Clarity Tunnel and the Llano Estacado without having to do the whole Cap Rock Canyons Trailway. The trail is very clear and in excellent condition. Smooth sailing. The Curve is a beautiful spot. There are interesting spots to stop along the way to read up on the local history. There appears to be watering and shade stops. The Clarity Tunnel is amazing.

Closets access point to clarity tunnel. Gradual uphill all the way to tunnel. 4.5 miles each way. Nice gravel trail just watch out when crossing the bridges on a bike.

Best part of the Caprock canyons trail, although not as scenic as the other side of clarity tunnel. Much smoother and not overgrown like most other parts of the trail. Good parking lot as well. Like others have said, short bike ride to the tunnel and an easy ride back with the gradual downhill.

We want to thank the Trail Angles who left water at the trailhead. All the water tanks along the route, traveling west to east are no longer used so we appreciate the support. Also, the creeks only flow after a rain so there is no water to filter. Great trail with excellent views in the canyon. A must ride! The east of Quitaque is in poor shape and hard to ride.

I really wish I could have made it to the tunnel (about 5 miles from this location), but the headwind was just too much for me. Very nice parking area and map at this trailhead.

9/12/2018. RVing at caprock canyon park so my wife and i biked this nearby trail to the abandoned train tunnel which is now home to bats. The drive from the park is only about 20 minutes. The tracks being smoothed over with roadbase makes for an excellent bike path. About 5 mi in at an easy slight upward grade most all the way made for about an hours ride as we stopped several times for pictures. You will know you are getting close when you cross a cement paved bridge and notice the smell of bat excrement. Outhouse by tunnel entrance surprised my wife as it had a large black widow spider who set up shop next to seat. :) impressive structure and nice ride. Wear a bandana over face to cut down on quano dust if going inside. While the countryside is nice it is open, unshaded and relatively flat. I would not want to hike this trail but great for bike.Ride back is fast as is on downward grade. Bring more water than you think you need as there is none to be had along the way.

Easy trail to walk and enjoy at Caprock state park. Just bring plenty water and try it by bike it's straight and flat.

Great long trails. Some sections are not really good for mountain biking but still a nice option.

A wonderful place to bike/hike, with an interesting mine to go through.

Grew up walking up and down the tracks to the tunnel to watch the bats then they replaced it with gravel for horseback and bicyclists.

Access point to clarity tunnel. It's uphill to the tunnel, and downhill coming back.
