Maybe 1 time out of 15 trips I get flagged but customs entering the US, but no big deal. Just adds 5 minutes to my trip home. Middle of the day has the longest lines. Check what you can:t bring because you might have to walk back and throw away cascarrones because we can't transport more than 12 eggs into the US. Same with meds. Never the same agents.... All the refugees have the right lane of the sidewalk lined with tents living on the bridge. Don't bring a wide buggy & hit their homes please. They're respectful and quiet. Make sure you have $.30 to come back in the turnstyle. $4 parking.... $1 entrance into Mexico. Otw into Mexico are women and children loudly begging under the bridge with poles and buckets. Give if you can. Whatever you want.... 5 out of 5 stars.

This border town is always popular with winter Texans (and now Spring Breakers)for many reasons-especially for dentistas, cheap booze and pharmacies. Be careful with your money and never leave valuables (you don t need Pesos) unattended. It is rumored that The town has paid off the cartel for years and is very safe for this reason (much safer than Matamoros- which is now a Ghost town for tourism.Do not take photos of the military or border police and if you drive across, be sure to give your vehicle watchman a tip or your vehicle May not be there when you return.

Nice walking bridge into Mexico! $1.00 entry fee to go in and 40 cents to walk back. Parking in the area was $4. There is a plaque on the bridge showing the international border. Cool Mexican statue welcomed visitors. Overall a great experience and very safe area. Might not be for people who don't like crowds.

Such situation. More than three hundred people. Children are sick. People have been here for more than a month.

We parked in a parking area just one block away from the bridge. As we drove to the bridge, the men directing traffic refused to let us turn onto the bridge and told us we must go to the end of the main traffic. We ended up 6 1/2 blocks in the town. It took us over 5 hours to leave Mexico.

I go all the time and the process coming back home is super fast. The bridge was packed with asylum seeker families (from Ukraine area) a first, but they were very nice and not in the way, they were just waiting to go through whatever process they have. Week before Christmas was busy but Border Patrol was getting everyone through checkpoint very quickly. Texas Border Patrol staff is very nice. Take a passport OR an enhanced DL Plus a birth certificate.

Walk across to Progresso and enjoy items half the price you would pay in the U.S. great food as well. If you're worried about security they had several armed' what looked like Federal soldiers in the area. There were several hundreds if not thousands of American visitors the two days that we went. Everything seemed very relaxed and as I mentioned the prices were incredible.

Easy to go over. You pay $1 when walking into Mexico and 25 cents when coming back into the US. I recommend parking your car on the parking lots adjacent to either side of the bridge for $2 and walk across to avoid being stuck in the long car lines. Nuevo Progreso offers tons of shopping options, including pharmacies and dentists at very affordable prices. Also, don t bother bringing in mexican pesos since all prices are in US dollars.

We try to get to Progreso whenever we're in the Rio Grande Valley. It's a short trip across the border from McAllen, and the people and shopping are wonderful. The margaritas aren't bad either... Super deals on clay pots, tiles, souvenirs -- you name it. Brenda's Rock Shop on the south end of the main drag is a good place to empty your wallet.

What can i say. I love it here. Everyone is very friendly and it feels very safe. The market is great. Plenty of shopping, whatever you're looking for. We park for $2.00 and can walk across the bridge into mexico for $1. The return cost $.25. Street tacos are the best!

Every time we come to Texas, we have to go to Progresso. It is a great shopping experience. I like that we can buy in dollars, not in pesos. You can drink and shop at the same time. They have music for everyone.

Was a little disappointed that the Mexico side of the border before customs has been turned into a tent city I use a walker and there was barely room for me to walk through.

History still alive and shocking the senses..bridge spans an ancient river in an unforgiving wilderness and cultures clash in an eternal battle for equity. The miracle is it still somehow works.

First time to Progreso. Very easy, not a far walk from the parking. Lots of fun things to see and great shopping/self care on the other side of the bridge

Had a blast buying all kinds of goodies. lots of English-language spoken no problems whats so ever. Plenty of welcoming people, good food, medical ,dentistry ,clothes, pharmacies , (you got to have perscriptions for everything ) ,pedicures, ect but at super low prices . The only thing i don't get is Why is the American side of the bridge brown and Mexico's is white .Nice border patrol agents who got us back across swiftly. Thanks to Progresso Mexico for the hospitality I shall return for more of tacos . Oh you can even get blue snoballs.

Always enjoy outings to Progreso. I prefer to walk, less hassle and more enjoyable. Good taco stands and many other places to shop or just walk around. To cross back, there are two lines - one for passport and the other for DL and birth certificates. The passport line is pretty quick .

Easy to walk into Mexico but be ready for beggars and street vendors. I know a lot of Americans come to Nuevo Progreso for dental work, and there are many dentists to choose from.

Safest U.S. to Mexico crossing (Daytime only)! Small town with little traffic and easy access to major East West toll road. Mexico permit office only open 8am to 5pm, but no long waits.
