A local recommended I stop in here for jerky, which really isn't my thing, but a jar of peach salsa caught my eye. There was no price tag on it, however. Nothing had a price tag, when I got to looking around. I asked the young man at the cash register how we were supposed to know how much things cost, and he said, "Just ask." I said, "That wouldn't work if I wanted to compare a lot of different things," and he said, "You'd just need to ask, that's all!"I guess that's how it is in the countryside. I bought the peach salsa and it's pretty good.

Amazing place to stop. Their spicy pickles are SO DELICIOUS! The kid that works there is so cool to talk to, and you get greeted by roosters and peacocks when you pull in and park!

Great place to stop and buy a few snacks. Ladies restroom needs some work. Lighting is sometimes only one light bulb in fan and floor in handcapped is creaky and soft in places.

Very interesting place to stop by and visit. The 'Best Jerky in Texas" sign and exotic meat options (elk, red deer, etc.) is what lured us in. Meat priced reasonably, lot of different items/souvenirs available, and the peacocks were a pleasant surprise.Definitely not the best (or biggest selection) jerky in state, but quite good. I'd recommend the Honey Turkey.

April 2024 - great, friendly staff, and most importantly they have gas ($3.99 / gal). Sure there s cheaper but this place saved our butts in a time of need.

Always a great place stop and catch up with attendants. Plus enjoy the amazing red stag, Buffalo, honey Turkey, and Elk jerky or get some BBQ or some pickles jar items for snacks while running down the roadway in the beautiful countryside. And also say hello to the peacocks walking around the area.

This place is amazing The customer service is the best. Stop here instead of the store near the Garner Park if going this way. Pick up jerky! Yes it's the best.

Nice, friendly place. Like stepping back in time, in a good way, to when life was simpler. Texan Americana at its best.

Garvens has been out here since we've been coming for ever. Stopped to check my tires and trailer. They have a bit of everything for snacking and pit stop.

Mini Buc-ee's in no-where. 5 stars all over. Like everyone say : Peacocks, friendly people, brisket-sandwiches, jerky and antique gas pump, what's not to like.

"Best dang jerky in Texas"... that's the boast this store has on their door. So here's the truth... it is. I tried them all yesterday including the exotic jerky... and all was great. Today I tried the peach cobbler in a jar... and wow, it was great too! A great place and glad our friends told us to stop... so I'm telling you... stop! Check it out and enjoy!

It s been at least 5 years I ve been going in here. I couldn t tell you how many times I ve stopped in there. The jerky is amazing (Cajun honey) and the barbecue sandwiches are an absolute breath of fresh air for the ride home. My kids beg for this stop on the way in and out! They always have a cold six pack of Ziegen bock for me and everything else my family wants. Gas,Small groceries, Beer, Wine, Cheap knives for the kids, Jars of Homemade goodness and all sorts of biker gear are some of what you ll find.I forgot to add they have a picnic area, clean restrooms and peacocks to watch while you sit and eat...or sip.Do yourself a favor and make the detour or stop along the way. These folks and this store are the best!!

The best jerky, and a saver when it comes to hot food with amazing brisket sandwiches(burgers) and great sausage wraps. Not to mention when your out of gas it s a life saver.when you come by you will be amazed by how time feels like you went back to 1930 in the old country. Time has truly stood still in the garven store.

This is a strange and interesting little store out in the middle of nowhere. I was riding through this barren area and needed both gas and internet cause my phone was not picking up data in that desolate location. Fortunately Garvens has both Wifi and gas. There was a peacock walking around for some reason on the lot. And I picked up some beef jerky as well - buffalo, elk and deer - they all tasted the same to me but all were good. It's not cheap, but remember this place is like an oasis in the desert so it's a lifesaver. Plus there were holes in the jerky, maybe from an arrow or a bullet (or a spear), so if they caught the animals themselves they should charge more. If you're passing through, I'd recommend a stop, and yes those old gas pumps do work. I think I'll stop by again on the way back and take a closer look at what else they have there. Interesting store.

These guys are the best!!! I ran out of gas about 1/2 a mile from them. My gas gauge malfunctioned and went from 1/4 to empty without warning. I called onstar but their nearest representative was an hour away. I called Garven s, explained my situation and the nice gentlemen came to my rescue within 5 minutes!!!! They were terrific. And the store is outstanding I bought pickles, salsa, queso, and an assortment of jerky. Make sure you take time to stop by and visit Garven s, it s worth the trip! And fill up, just in case

Stopped in on the way back to Houston from Camp Eagle. Looked around and ended up buying several different kinds of jerkey. Have to say it is among the best jerkey I have ever had. We tried many and now mail order it for special occasions. My favorites are the Honey Turkey and the Elk, so tender so flavorful. Huge dirt parking lot so stop in regardless of how big a rig you are driving.

Such an awesome store in the middle of nowhere! The staff is very down home and kind, and the jerky is phenomenal! It's hard to argue with a place that doesn't question when you pump gas and walk in to pay!

I have been looking for the place I pit stopped years ago and found the most delicious pumpkin butter. Luckily I saved the Mason jar. Now I just wonder if I can have them ship me a half a dozen of them! :)

Got my gas, and checked out the jerky. When asked, I was thinking about it. had a long drive ahead, was it was the best decision I made that day. Really good! Oh, and don't worry 'bout the 'possum climbing the pole!

Never miss the opportunity for a refreshing stop at the Garven Store! BBQ, jerky, cold drinks and last chance for gas are just a few of the reasons to cool your heels a moment on the screened porch.

Great jerky. Buffalo was the best. Prime Rib a close second. Good pickles too. Will stop again the next time I'm in the area.

Grabbed a brisket sandwich for lunch and was glad I did. Judging by the Camaro with the Garven license plate out front I believe it was the man himself which helped me with my order with a smile on his face.
