DO NOT .. I REPEAT DO NOT BRING YOUR VEHICLE TO THIS SHOP FOR SERVICE. Long story long . I dropped my vehicle off to Thunderbolt 9/13/21 for a transmission rebuilt. After 40 days of unanswered questions and pop ups to the Thunderbolt shop I received a call that my vehicle was ready. Fast forward to July 2023. I start to notice grinding, shaking and issues when switching gears. Thunderbolt advised that I bring the vehicle by to be checked. A mechanic checked under the hood, evaluated fluid levels, road tested the vehicle and assured me that everything was fine and there was nothing going on with the transmission. 8/25/23 the vehicle was unable to drive and would only move in reverse. Once the vehicle arrived to the Thunderbolt shop I was told I would receive a call within a week for details on the vehicle s status. After 46 days of calls, pop ups to the shop and unfulfilled deadline promises I received my vehicle back. Upon picking up the vehicle I was advised not to come in to the office to pick up. I was told to go to the shop across the street for pick up. No paperwork was handed to me. No one explained what had been worked on. I was handed my keys and was told the work was covered under warranty. 7 days later I realize a oil leak in the drive way. $1,400 later a mechanic had to find an oil plug that had been broken off due to the negligence of Thunderbolts mechanics replacing the transmission back to the engine. The oil leak caused a connector and oil manifold to be damaged. When calling to notify Thunderbolt of their mishap I told that the vehicle was not leaking while in their possession and was asked to bring the vehicle in to be checked out. After hearing all of the things from the mechanic on how careless the transmission was put back in to the vehicle. There was no way I was returning to the Thunderbolt shop for service.Thunderbolt prides themselves on their 3 year/ 36,000 mile warranty. It s proclaimed to be the best warranty around. I would not waste my time or money with this place of business. They will not answer you directly on what is going on with your vehicle or the amount of time they will have the vehicle in their possession.

Took my truck to thunderbolt to redo my whole motor for 3k end up paying 4K try to trick by crossing the wires up to get another 1K I told them to give me my F -ing truck left from there with my truck back firing and the motor didn t last a year. Watch them take a nice old school Buick Riviera from a woman because they set the price so high she couldn t afford it. So, if you a woman do not take your car to them. They are lucky to get one star.

These people worked on my 2016 Tacoma. I will never take it back to them, because they did such a good job. I won't need to lol. Honestly you're warranty is utterly useless. The tremendous quality of their work renders a warranty pointless. They did great. 10 stars. Also a buddy of mine went there too. We going on 1 year now since repairs and had absolutely no issues. Just don't skimp on cost and you vehicle will be a runner once more.

Took my Mazdaspeed 3 there to get my engine replaced, engine was done and complete I give them that. The issues?A) Manual shift cable was caught on the engine, they denied it. Went to my other mechanic to have it fixed instead.B) Battery installation? Just look at the pictures and see for yourself. They placed a screw to make it fit.C) More adjustments had to be done by a more competent mechanic at another location at half the price.D) Over charged for a job that had to be redone and spent more money to fix it at another shop.Their prices don't match their quality and their customer service, very disappointed. Avoid this place at all costs.Update: I just want my money back

WORSE AUTO REPAIR SERVICE in the history of auto repair shops. They don't deserve any stars, but one is the lowest rating (WARNING-long review but worth reading prior to sending any vehicle here). Thunderbolt had my dad s truck for over two months doing repairs and charged him $6000. My dad picked up his truck on 9/16(Saturday), and one of the release instructions they gave my dad was for him not to drive his truck no more than 65mph for the first 500 miles. My dad dropped off his truck on a full tank and when we picked it up, his tank was on empty. We took it to a gas station to fill up and when my dad tried to start his truck, it wouldn't start. I tried to give him a jump and still nothing. My dad called their shop and told them the situation and they told my dad his fluid pump was not getting any fluid. They replaced my dad s entire engine and now the fluid pump that goes with the engine isn't getting any fluid after they supposedly fixed all issues on my dad s truck. My dad asked them to fix it and they tell my dad that the fluid pump isn't covered under warranty COINCIDENTLY! We pay to have the truck towed home and they tell my dad they will come pick up the truck on a certain day(that Monday or Tuesday). Guess what...they never showed up to get it. My dad also gets a certified letter in the mail dated for 9/12(Tuesday) stating his truck has been ready for weeks and that they will start charging $25 a day and place a mechanic lien on his truck if it is not picked up but they NEVER called and told us the truck was ready. My dad called them on 9/11(Monday) and that's when they told him it had been ready for weeks. What type of business sends out a certified letter the day after speaking with the customer threatening to place a mechanic lien when they know they never contacted him?! A week goes by, and a tow truck calls me telling me he's in route to get the truck and I inform him that no one is home to give him the keys as we were waiting for days for the truck to be picked up. The tow truck person has the audacity to tell me that picking up the truck is a courtesy and that I or my dad need to find a way to get the keys, or we will have to pay to have the truck towed back to the shop. These are shady, conniving, useless people who basically stole $6000 from my dad. They put my dad s truck in worse condition than when it was dropped off in early July. My dad s truck was still drivable when he left it with them and now it won't even start. I would never recommend such horrible car and customer service to anyone. These people will take your money and not fix your vehicle!

If you are a native Houstonian, then you have heard of Thunderbolt Motor and Transmission and have likely seen the iconic commercial. Last month my daughter's car needed a transmission. I am so thankful I was able to take it to Thunderbolt! I often use companies that advertise on the Michael Berry Show since I know those companies are all top notch businesses in our city. For this one he will often say to go in and "ask for Skip (the owner)." . I spoke to Chris, and he was wonderful and so helpful. They gave me a fair competitive price with a 3 year warranty. More than that, they gave great customer service! I sat at Chris' desk to discuss my car as if I were an old friend. When I came to pick it up, I met Skip. He thanked me for my business, and actually referred me to another local business for some work I needed done at my home. I LOVE a local business! This one gets 5 STARS!!!

Husband brought our 99 Chevy suburban here to replace engine. It was 4k to 5k to replace it. Put down 1k down payment that was July but we didn t hear anything until my husband called last week to find out we re we at because they never call us. So they told us it was really bad to fix it and will cost 10k to fix. So my husband said that s too much and we won t fix that for that kind of money it s not worth it. To make it short they ll keeping the 1000k down and they want us to get the car my husband said they can have it.

I had convinced myself that I had a transmission issue and I was concerned about it failing at a bad time. I called Thunderbolt and asked if they would take a look at my truck. Three Thunderbolt Master Mechanics, one with 40 or more years of experience and another with 15 years of experience checked my truck for a number of issues, but the issue was not a transmission issue. They diagnosed a rear end differential issue as to what might be causing my issue. This is not a service that Thunderbolt offers so they provided a few companies I could go to. I offered to pay Thunderbolt for their time but they refused. They asked that I come back when I have an actual transmission issue. I was pleased that that I did not need a new transmission and impressed at how they worked over the truck to find out the root issue. They also showed me an engine diagnostic that showed my son went over 100 mph on my truck and i was not aware this had happened. If you want an honest company to work on your transmission, please use Thunderbolt Products. You will be pleased with their honesty and I am sure their work is top notch and I will return when my transmission does fail. The three service managers were so nice to me and the mechanics went out of their way to find my issue. Thank you Thunderbolt for being the company that Michael Berry supports and recommends. You have a customer for life when my transmission goes.

Rebuilt engine, engine is still leaking oil between the block and the head, will not honor warranty. I brought my vehicle by twice and was turned away by your manager twice. I have proof it's the engine that you all rebuilt with video and third mechanics opinion. Tell the public how I paid over 4k for a rebuilt engine that leaks oil?Update....... no stars is needed, this is one of the most unprofessional companies....read other reviews before you do business with this company...Taking to court...beware of this company Harry Hartley changes the court to his business precinct so they can win cases because the owner Harry Hartley plays golf with the judges in that precinct. It's hard to win a case when the owner knows the judges in that district and so you will not get a fair trial in small claims court, he has been taking to court several times about taking people for their money, he continue to do so because he is protected...just know God have the last say so. I want my 3783.34 back get to get this oil leaking engine that your guys supposedly rebuilt back. Let them know about the problem as soon as I notice oil leaking in my drive way. Turned me away twice. FYI nothing was done to void the warranty!

Used this company to rebuild an engine and had some concerns about some gunk in the engine. Was told it is not a problem and that it will be okay. It is less than a year later and it's is not okay. Called them about fixing it and the warranty but was given the run around for a long time and finally when I talked to someone they are charging a bunch more money for labor and won't get to fix the truck for months. They are a huge rip off. Do NOT make the same mistake I did. And go somewhere else. Anywhere else.Service: Engine repair

Absolutely a sorry a$$ company. They do not honor their warranty. Will try and find anyway out of it. I had to show receipt for driving 600 mile that I did an oil change. $4600 to rebuild a 304 motor. They took it out and installed it. After the rings got burnt and other stuff. They said it was because of the carburetor "Witch I bought new, not rebuild"had test sheet as well. They told BBB that they told me I would need to get the carb adjusted. Nowhere was this written down. They told BBB they don't work on carburetors. This was the first I was ever told this. They loved working on my carburetor when I paid them. DON'T THROW YOUR MONEY DOWN THE DRAIN. This is why they have changed their name many times.

I had my 2003 dodge ram 1500 truck motor replaced here. Within 6 months a water hose burst. Now I'm currently on the side of the road with another busted water hose (approximately 2 and a half years later). Keep in mind that if you drive th vehicle (even to clear off of the freeway) while it isoverheated it voids the warranty.

I agreed to have the engine rebuilt, and the transmission if needed. they quoted price for each, because i thought the problem was with the shifting mechanism on steering column. They called and said transmission looks okay, but rebuilt anyway. They denied that was the deal. I can get over that--probably transmission should have been rebuilt anyway; they also said they could fix the shifting mechanism on the steering column too, but did not--I picked up the truck and discovered it is undrivable and have to have it towed home--Failed to notify me that it is not drivable before pick up--these guys are arrogant, terrible at customer service, i felt like they were trying to take advantage of me--try someone else--Service: Engine repair

I have called this company or sent customers there for rebuilds for over 15 years. Not sure who runs it now. But they are beyond rude. I called Thursday and was told 1200 for labor to remove engine and replace it. Called again today and was told 1600. I said you raised price 400 over the weekend? They responded yep, like it was a dumb question. Then told me cause I was complaining or asking for exact pricing they would do anything to push me away. Cause they had more than they can handle. Before I put this review I went and checked if other people had similar experiences and they had this used to be an old school company with service and value.Trash now

I had my engine rebuilt by this shop. They estimated 7-10 days and had my vehicle for 2 months. The windshield was cracked when I got it back and they tried to say it wasn't their fault even though they had the vehicle for 2 months.

I have been calling around the city doing research and checking out pricing and availability for transmission repair. I have placed three calls to Thunderbolt Transmission (Houston) to find out accurate pricing and warranty information on transmission rebuilt or replacement for my vehicle. The first call I made I was quoted $2,400. The next time I called I was quoted $2,900 with a 2 week turnaround, and the third time I called I was ready to make an appointment for repair and I was quoted 2,700 dollars with a 3 week turn around and added charges for computer parts that could not be divulged at the time of the call. In my conversation with sales representative Chris I was spoken to in such a combative derogative tone I was blown away. I have never had a confrontation via phone for inquiring direct accurate information from a business who provides a service to the community. This third phone call escalated very quickly. The sales representative asked me Why have I called the business so many times and if he was me he would not be calling around to 500 different business to make a decision on where he was going to take his vehicle . I then proceeded to explain to the combative sales rep my research for other opinions/ pricing and my concern on receiving different information each time I had called in with no confirmation on turn around time or exact pricing for the work I needed done. The sales rep continued to be combative with me stating that I just needed to bring the vehicle in to be looked at and there was no way he could give me accurate pricing. The sales rep proceeded to tell me I was not happy with his answer as to why I was having a hard time getting a direct answer for service for my transmission. In my communication with this company I was only a consumer looking for a quote and availability for transmission repair and I got spoken to like I was a child being reprimanded by their elder. I can not speak on their service however I can speak on their customer service and this was a first for being completely disrespected for absolutely no reason.Sent from my iPhone

They wanted 7k to repair and install my engine. That's a lot of money. The gentlemen was polite and courteous, but I didn't like the price quote. That's the only reason they didn't get 4 stars. To be fair, I have heard good things from people about them. Hence why I called them in the first place.

I wish I had done my due diligence and read the reviews about this company before trusting them to rebuild my husband's transmission. On February 4, he turned in his Pathfinder to get his transmission rebuilt based on the estimate that the average turnaround time was 7-10 days. On February 12, he contacted the salesman who told him that he was unsure of how much longer the repair would take because he "didn't have the teardown order in front of him." 2 days later (on the day we anticipated having it back because of the original time estimate), the salesman called to let him know that additional work would be required and it would be an extra $1000. My husband authorized the work. 5 days later my husband called again and was told by the salesman that it "should be done in the next day or two." 6 days later, on February 25th, after an additional phone call, we received word that the vehicle was ready. He picked it up that day (paid $4998), and realized the next day that the transmission is worse now than when he turned it in on February 4, like they had done no work at all. So the day after picking it up, after they had it for 21 days, his car is back in the shop again and they will "check it out and call in a day or 2." (And they haven't). Very poor customer service and workmanship!! We trusted them to fix our vehicle based on their number of years in business, thinking they had to be reputable. I really should have read the negative reviews. Don't be fooled! Take your vehicle somewhere else!Update--the company did make good on their promise to fix my husband's SUV properly. It took an additional 2 weeks from the time it was returned, but I'm happy to report that it now runs great!

I had the worst experience with Thunderbolt motors. I had to bring the vehicle back multiple times because the cylinders kept going bad. The manager then tells me they changed there parts provider and that I will need to pay more money to get better parts. I had already paid above market price. My original cost was est $6000 but I paid a estimated $9000 when I finally got away from these crooks. They charged me for things that they never replaced, I had to purchase a rental car multiple times because of there failure to fix there created problem.& the managers act more like used car salesmen.Managers never offered any car rental help & the warranty had no valve when you had to use it. They drag there feet to repair.Thunderbold use to be great years ago but now they are just a money grab.I will never go back or recommend anyone.

I brought my car to them at the beginning of Dec. 2021. They told me 2-3 weeks to rebuild my transmission. It is now the end of Feb. 2022 and they still haven't finished it. I call every week since the 3 weeks was up and they keep telling me next week ever time I call and I'm getting sick of it. Half the time they say the mechanic isn't even there to talk to. I just called again and they said "maybe by next Wednesday". Who can go 3 months without a car?Service: Transmission
