I never write reviews. But this place is too good not to recommend.They care about the quality of their work. Most importantly, they are genuine people who treat you like a human being, and not just a customer.I've been scammed once or twice in my lifetime, so it's hard for me to trust anyone in business. I trust Ron's with my business. As far as I'm concerned, this says it all.Thank you Nick and James for running such a fine establishment. You've won me as a customer for life.

I don't want to get into perceived cliches about auto repair shops, but it's difficult to find a place that you feel a level of trust with and is also affordable. After meeting the owner of Ron's to discuss a self-inflicted problem with my SUV, that level of trust was established within the first 5 minutes. I was impressed with the fact that he took his time to gather all the information I had to present and explain all the the different options and outcomes. He meets with each customer privately in a one-on-one setting to focus on their needs without distraction. I don't ever remember feeling that at ease leaving my vehicle on an initial visit to a new service shop. Lastly, the cost of the repairs were so affordable (dealership-quality of work, by the way), I was already asking to set an appointment to additional repairs before I had even gotten back to my car!If you're looking for a knowledgeable auto service shop providing excellent customer service, and you live in the midtown area, this is your guy.Services: General repairs & maintenance, Steering & suspension replacement, Transmission repair

The service here is amazing. The people here are honest, fair in their pricing, and easy to talk to. They use quality parts for a quality price, and Nick answered any questions I had about my car honestly and patiently, putting my mind at ease. I will definitely be coming back for other maintenance or repairs.

I can t recommend Ron s enough. First of all, it s a family run business & they re great to interact with. James is the tech who works for them and he s a great mechanic and a very detail oriented person. I brought my vehicle here for a timing belt change and they did it in a timely fashion as well as kept me informed during the process. They recommended a radiator replacement which I agreed to. Unfortunately the replacement radiator started leaking and I was expecting to pay a lot more out of pocket. After discussing with them they honored warranty and labor on their work and the part. Their work ethics and customer service has really impressed me. If you re in the downtown area and need some work done, check them out!

I've been to Ron's twice, and both times have been a great experience. Ron helped me the first time, and Nick helped me the 2nd time.I had an issue with my AC and previously had gone to a national brand auto shop where they did not correct the problem. Nick explained to me everything they would do before he did it. Nick found the issue, corrected it, and kept my cost low. I had my car back with full AC within 2 days. Thank you, Nick.I'm scheduling my next routine maintenance here at the end of the month. Professional, timely, and keeps cost in mind. What else can you ask for from a mechanic.

By far the best car repair service I've ever received no lie. Visiting Houston for the weekend and ran over a medium and cracked my oil pan. Ken/Ron, the owner of the shop handled me and my car with such care and very professional and personable. He repaired it in the same day. Because we where leaving the next. Highly recommend them. I would definitely use again if I lived in the area.Service: Oil change

While returning from our Galveston vacation to Fort Worth, our car started shaking and making loud noises. We managed to reach Ron's Downtown Auto Service for help. Ron proved to be a reliable and honest mechanic. Despite being in a tough spot as out-of-towners, Ron didn't take advantage of the situation. He quickly inspected our car, identified the issue, and fixed it, getting us back on the road within an hour.Ron's remarkable character and commitment to providing superlative service is impressive. His noble actions not only salvaged our journey but also reaffirmed our faith in the kindness of strangers. Ron's Downtown Auto Service is a small family owned business. I wanted a Pre-buy inspection done - I don't know a lot about cars and wanted to ensure everything was okay with the pre-owned vehicle I was going to purchase. They were fantastic - Nick and his team were thorough; Nick also explained everything to me in terms that I could try to understand. Went above and beyond to check a few things and made me feel confident in my purchase. They are family owned business with long history - I'm happy to keep giving them my business going forward! First impression was fantastic and they got themselves a customer going forward :)

This auto shop is one of the few that works hard to make sure they're taking good care of your vehicle. And if they can't do it, they'll refer you to someone who can! I was referred here from a neighbor and I'm so glad I've been able to come to this place for the last few years consistently.

Nick and James do a quality job and are very helpful explaining their work and are very friendly. This is the place if you want to experience a family owned business that care about their customers. The costs are competitive but less than the dealership.

Michael and his crew are great! I wanted a good place to bring my C7 Stingray and wanted honesty in the diagnosis of the vehicle. They checked it out, quickly told me the problem and quoted me a fair and reasonable price. They then repaired the problem before noon! They don't know it yet but Ron's Downtown Automotive is going to get all of my business and my Friends' as well!

I called around to find a place that did an AC freon recharge and another place was charging 2.5x what Ron's was. I took my car in and Nick hooked me up. He was honest, told me the levels were pretty much where they should be and just topped me off. Highly recommend!

Update: The A/C on my Maserati Quattroporte died and I had the pleasure to work with Nick and James again. I learned that Ron s auto shop is a family owned business that has been in Houston for more than 25 years. These guys work incredibly hard to get your car back to you as fast as possible. What impressed me the most with this experience was their transparency in the troubleshooting process. I felt very comfortable that we had exhausted all repair options before moving forward with a new compressor, which was installed at a much more competitive price than a dealer. A/C now works good as new. If you have a Maserati, or any luxury car for that matter (as I was also in the garage with a G Wagon and Porsche) there s probably not a better deal in town to get it fixed than here.Old Review: I bottomed my Maserati out on a speed bump and bent the cross beam into the muffler of my car. They serviced my car on a Saturday in one hour and had it driving like new without any vibrations for a very reasonable price. Very upfront and honest crew, thankful to have brought my car here.

I went here today and the mechanic was so nice! He explained what happened to my car in a polite and informative way. Was very accepting when my insurance decided to go to a different shop due to coverage. But I will defiantly be going back for other services! Great friendly business

Stumbled on this place as my old 93 civic overheated on me in downtown Houston. I was able to drive it to the shop. The guys there was helpful and let me know the following day that i had a blown radiator. They gave me a favor quite to replace it and i had them change the thermostat as well.

This is my first review, but I've been going to Ron's for over 20 years and today's visit (my first in several years) reminded me why. After having some progressive issues that led to being unable to start my car this weekend - and after doing my own troubleshooting @ Auto Zone - I spoke with Michael, sharing the diagnosis. They troubleshoot my car, determined the issue was both simpler and less costly to resolve than what I had expected, explained everything in detail, and had me on my way. Going to a mechanic can be stressful - you never know what else they may find - but that's never been the case at Ron's - Michael (Ron's bother, whom I've seen for aprox 18 years now) & his team provide honest service at a fair price. That's why I come back - even though my new neighborhood (the Heights) has plenty of reputable shops.Services: Electrical, Auto emissions testing, Battery

Would give this place 10 stars if I could, and cannot recommend them enough. I'm relatively new to the area and called around 5+ different shops for quotes on work I needed for my brakes, then I saw the reviews on here and figured it was worth a shot, and I can see why they're so highly rated now.First, Nick's customer service is fantastic. Great guy who isn't there to hustle you. Quality and timing of the work is superb and very quick. Shop is very clean, people are friendly. Prices are more than reasonable, and much better than any other quote I received..Will definitely be a customer as long as I live in Houston and will recommend them to anyone I can. Earlier this year, my 10-year old car was experiencing engine misfiring as I drove into my office downtown. I quickly Googled the nearest, high-rated auto service shop and Ron's was top of the list. I was able to get my car to Ron and his awesome staff in time. They quickly were able to diagnose the issue and even came up with an interim solution so I could decide if and when I wanted to put the money into a total fix. I really appreciated their kindness and honesty, and felt no pressure at any time to put more money into my car than necessary. I would highly recommend taking your car here! Their high ratings are well-deserved.

Just like everyone else... a mechanic with a 4.9 rating?!? Yeah, they re legit. Friendly, honest, and efficient. Came in right before closing and looked at an alternator issue in my truck. Made arrangements to bring it back the next morning, and was in & out in just a couple hours. Definitely an honest, personable small town feel right in the middle of Midtown. Will definitely return.

I can t recommend Ron s enough! I won t take our cars to any other mechanic in Houston unless I have to, and I have been coming here for almost three years now. They re really honest, fair, and just kind! As a woman, sometimes it can be nerve-wracking to approach a mechanic in fear of being treated differently than men, but I have never felt that they have tried to take advantage of me / charge me more, and they go above and beyond to listen to my concerns and even teach me a bit about what s going on in my car.

Okay um WOW!!! To say I was blown away by this place is an understatement. I have never been ANYWHERE, much less an auto repair shop, that showed this level of dedication to quality and service, and honestly just being kind human beings.Before going in, I was doing the whole okay if it s less than $100 I ll do it, if over I ll just live with it conversation that I do before most big-ticket repair expenses. The bill? $20. Between their professionalism, their service quality, their service speed, I mean everything about them If I could give more than 5 stars I would. I mean WOW!!!!!

I never leave reviews but this place is amazing and worth it. I have been recommending Ron s Downtown Auto to my friends and family for years. I had just moved to Houston in June 2015 when my AC stopped working. I went to another place that quoted me $2500 plus labor for a full AC replacement. In a panic, I looked online for a shop with good ratings and gave Rons a call for a second opinion. Micheal answered and offered to evaluate my car that day. He immediately noticed that my condenser fan was not working and that we can start with replacing that and see if the issue is resolved. That replacement was going to cost about $160. The next day he called me and told me it was actually just the fuse to the condenser fan and I only paid $70 for the repair. Three years later my AC still works great. I have gone to them several times since them for minor repairs and received the same amount of honesty and professionalism. 12/10 recommend.

Had an issue with my car battery that was quickly addressed by Ron and his team. I had taken my car previously to a national franchise that didn t bother to investigate my concern. The mechanics here quickly addressed my issue and thoroughly explained everything they did in detail which I appreciate.

If you are looking for a place to take your vehicle, consider this place. It is a family business that takes great care of their customers. Their staff is professional, attentive, and honest. I brought in a quote from the BMW dealership for repairs and Ron s shop saved me a significant amount of time and money. Totally approved. I don t understand anything about car s engine and also I am a non-native speaker, what makes things harder when I have to take my car to the mechanic, but I have had very good experiences with Ron s. Every time I took my vehicle to them, Nick was super honest about what I really needed to get fixed or not, and provided a good and fast service.
