There are 2 ladies working there. The one that took care of me and my wife was very nice. She gets the 5 stars. She was working non stop. The other lady just on her computer and talking to the lady working and to the person in the back office. She didn t care that the office had at least 15 people waiting to be called. She called maybe 3 people the time I was there. (1:30pm- 3:15pm).

My teenager needed a DPS appointment for her learner's permit, but there was a 6+ months wait in Austin and surrounding areas. I discovered the Gonzales DPS location had a short wait time, both for online scheduling and in-office appointments. I also read this DPS location's reviews, which were mostly 5-stars and decided we would make it a fun day trip to a town we have never visited. The drive from Austin to Gonzales was great and easy. We arrived early enough to check-in online 30 minutes before our appointment. When we entered the Gonzales DPS office, we checked into the kiosk, took a number, and was immediately called. No wait! The two DPS employees were absolutely stellar - very professional, welcoming, and with a great sense of humor! The employee that helped my daughter explained everything to her - documents to sign, learner's permit restrictions, etc. We arrived prepared with all the required paperwork completed and documentation needed, per the DPS website. Overall, the visit took about 10-15 minutes. Everyone in the office, both employees and customers, were in a great mood and it made for a great experience. Kudos to the ladies working at the Gonzales DPS office!

Outstanding staff. I had tried the day before to renew my licensein Bastrop. What a couple of rude condescending women that work in the Bastrop office. The women in Gonzales were very helpful, professional, and kind. Proves you don't have to be nasty to get the job done.

Cindy was the most personable and made a fairly painful process of transferring a CDL from another state much better. She is a superstar!!!

I love this office, the people are sooo friendly and cool, even though we're out-of-towners and drove like 50 miles to get a license here because there was no place closer, still worth it to get a smile from the good folks of Gonzales. Come and take it!

After getting four teens driving in the last five years, I have spent more time in this office than I ever thought I would. The staff has changed recently, but was the same two people for years and years. Considering the amount of red tape and paperwork they face, they have been the two most patient people I have ever met in my life. It's a really tough job to have to repeat the same things over and over again. I cannot even begin to imagine what it takes to do driving tests every week, along with all of the other services they provide.I will point out that you cannot call this office anymore. However, this is not the fault of the staff. DPS has completely removed that option, so you have to call the main state number. You cannot call to schedule tests, change a time or ask the simplest of questions that may only be known by the local staff. Again, this is not their fault, and they are not happy about it. It means they have to have many more people walking through their door instead of just handling quick issues over the phone. So, if you need something, you must go in each and every time to get your information. I highly suggest going in and asking for a thorough list of every single thing you will need before taking a permit or license test. They will be happy to go over that with you. You might also go ahead and bring in documents (immigration, birth certificate, etc.) when you are gathering this information and ask them to look at them. I cannot tell you how many people I've seen turned away because they had a hospital copy of their birth certificate (not a legal copy from the state), or some other document was expired.Their hands are tied, and their jobs are on the line if they do not follow-through with all the required red tape. Remember that when you go in. The people behind the desk are just trying to keep their jobs and help get you on the road. They really are helpful and kind. They may just be a bit exhausted, because people tend to take out their frustration on them, when they are simply having to follow the rules and do their job.If you have ever tried to navigate this office in Austin or San Antonio, you will realize what a gift it is to have a smaller, more easily accessible office here locally. It can take a minimum of two weeks to schedule a driving test (it may be longer now). They are closed for lunch every day for just over an hour. However, they return right on time each day, in my experience.Go in knowing they are on your team and want to help you. It makes all the difference in the world.

We opted for Gonzales because frankly anywhere near Katy/ Houston was over a month wait. So glad we went to Gonzales! I wish I knew the name of the lady who helped us. She was very cordial and funny on top of helpful. We thought it would be best to go early since we weren't sure what to expect after experiencing Rosenberg and Columbus DMVs. We were in and out in less than any hour! With the time saved, we ended up driving to Six Flags and spending the day. Thanks Gonzales DMV!

Even though it was a long wait, it went very well. Only one clerk, but she was calm, cool and collected! She certainly earns her paycheck! Outstanding!

the only woman (who refused to give her name) was not only rude, she also refused to perform the tasks that are within her job requirements. Her demeanor was very inconsiderate, and she should not be working for this location with the general public.

The employees are outstanding at this location. The state has it set up so you can't even call this location to ask a question. When you call the number it rolls over to a computer and it's not very helpful it took me 3 tries just to schedule an appointment.
