Saw transmission fluid in my driveway and went to a transmission shop near my job who told me i needed a rebuilt transmission. I then went to Universal Transmission because it was closer to my house and told them i needed to rebuilt my transmission but to my surprise, Scott and Giovanni both were very helpful and told me it was only my axle that needed to be replaced. Honest and great service.

I would not recommend Universal Transmission (UT) to anyone. I wish I would have read the reviews here beforehand!I give credit to UT for completing the job and meeting their warranty terms which did not require extra costs to be paid to them after vehicle issues continued, but their lack of communication and planning, unmet timing commitments, and creation of further damage to my vehicle caused several inconveniences for me that could have easily been mitigated, and extended the work from 6 days in shop to 7 weeks in shop.UT inspected my vehicle and agreed the transmission needed to be rebuild, and quoted me such. We agreed on the price and approximate timeframe. They only agreed to pay about 6 days of car rental (website stated free car rental). 8 days later, after inquiring about the status a few times, I was informed that it was ready.A few days later, however, the same dashboard lights came on, something new was dragging under my vehicle, AND it appeared that someone scraped the front bumper on a yellow post. I brought my vehicle back to UT, at which point they wouldn t pay any more for car rental. We agreed they would fix the scraped bumper later at no cost to me.A few days later they said it requires a remanufactured transmission. 2 weeks later I still don t have my vehicle as they re still seeing the dashboard light after the replacement, but they think the problem is the electrical wiring.I notified them that I m out of town for the next week, and they said it should be ready by the time I get back. I said great, please drop it off at my house so that I have transportation when I arrive back. They agreed.As my return neared, I had to keep calling UT to get status updates from them to ensure the vehicle would be ready in time. They said I ll get a text or call back before I land, stating the status. I land, but no calls or texts! I try contacting the manager, but no reply. As I near home I finally get a text stating that the vehicle is not ready, but now it s too late for me to get a rental car for my appointments the next day!I picked up my vehicle the next evening. We agreed that I ll return it soon for the paint job, as I ll then be out of town for 3 weeks, which we all agreed is plenty of time to make the repair. They will send it to a painter that they trust to get the job done well.I return the vehicle a few weeks later and fly out of town. As my return approaches, I still haven t heard from them. I have to call and remind them that I need the vehicle on my driveway on the day I return, as I have appointments the next morning. They said they ll inquire about the status and call me back. No return calls!Once again, the day of my return arrives, but I m informed late in the day that I will have to pick it up because they just got it back and have nobody to bring it to my house.When I pick it up I notice that the paint job is terrible. Paint drips exist in various locations. This is from someone they trusted, and was given 3 weeks to perform the work on just a 1 sqft area of the bumper. I will not be returning to UT to have the paint job corrected who knows how many more weeks it would require!Due to the issues and slowness of completing the work, in total I spent an extra 3 weeks on car rental costs that were not reimbursed by UT, and saved myself an additional 4 weeks of extra car rental costs by luck of my out-of-town timing!Overall, their communication was terrible. If I had never initiated calls to check on the status any of the 3 times that they had my vehicle, further delays would have ensued. I could not plan my days accordingly just due to their poor communication.In the end, I could have spent the same total out-of-pocket costs to have had my car dealership perform the work, where a free loaner vehicle would have been issued, and far less time would have been spent. But if the electrical problem had been found at the very beginning when UT initially inspected it, I would not have needed to pay for any transmission work in the first place!

Worst experience ever! Got my transmission done, got the warranty, PAID $4,000 and 10 months later the transmission went out again. They tried to say it was an electrical problem the warranty didn t cover it and they wanted $3,000 more to fix i. The manager is rude told me I was being aggressive on the phone bc I was cutting him off and hung up on me. I told them not to fix anything and give me my car back and now I have to pay $897 so they can put it back together the manager also refused to provide contact information so I could speak to someone else. A separate employee texted me and told me the owner would contact me, and the manager told me the owner won t be contacting me ever and refused to provide contact information for someone above him.

I came into this shop as a disgruntled individual. Every shop I went to failed to provide me with appropriate customer service; that suntil I met Giovanni. This wonderful young man not only helped me find the solutions to my vehicular issues, he went the extra mile to make sure that this issue wouldn t occur again. He was so gratuitous that I recommended this shop to everyone that I knew!

I brought these guys my truck about 11 months ago to get a whole transmission re build payed almost 6k after 3 months I had to comeback bc the transmission was leaking and got it fixed but had to comeback again not even a year because the transmission was slipping now they are charging me 800 to tell me what I need and more for the parts and the warranty doesn t cover it bc they said I already put more than 12k miles save your money go to a better reliable shop, they scam you so you can help them stay in business don t ignore the bad reviews like I did

Stay away!! don't ignore the reviews. This place is a joke they are crooks. They tell you they have to take your transmission apart to find out what's wrong with it. Then they give you an astronomical number and if you don't approve the repair, You still have to pay them $895 to put it back together. So either way you have to pay. Don't get me wrong I understand a diagnostic fee. But dang... I will never and I mean ever refer someone to this place. *EDIT. I wouldn't think this shop would stoop so low. After I declined the repair, they over filled my transmission with oil. So it would over heat and shut down. I guess they figured id bring it back and they could say I told you so. Wrong!!! quote was $5,500 for a beetle transmission rebuild, which I knew it didn't need. $600 and a new valve body later. My wife is zipping around with her top down.Service: Transmission

I was literally standing outside of the shop with the police who were trying their hardest to send this man to jail. He kept the vehicle we came for until he realized that he would get locked up if he didn't give the car back. He tried to make us sign paperwork to release the car that would void any warranty if we didn't bring the car back!Who would want to bring it back after this debacle!!!He had the car for two weeks to finish a transmission! Then he wanted an extra 500 to release it because he said there was an issue with the car over heating and when the police showed up in our favor he said he would fix the radiator for free! That's ok! If you ever have need for your car to be serviced go to H-Tech auto!!!

My daughter s car had a problem that was diagnosed by another mechanic shop and they said the transmission was out and I needed a refurbed one and quoted over $7k. Scott at universal transmission said it could be rebuilt and did it for almost half of what I was quoted before. I had them do the repair and everything was good. A week later she has another issue this time with the engine (reduced engin power) and had to pull over on the freeway. I called Scott and he immediately had a tow truck out to get her picked up as I was out of town at the time. Even though they specialize in transmissions he was able to get the engine repair done at a small cost. I highly recommend them at universal as they really made me feel taken care of. It s hard to find a trustworthy mechanic.Service: General repairs & maintenance

I went here to get my engine replaced after Ford did me wrong and I ended up getting some of the best and most transparent service from Mr. Scott and Phillip. Dad even got his transmission fixed and it was the same. Great Men, great service

Don t ignore the bad reviews!!A car goes in for a transmission problem they charge you thousands of dollars and then after they put it back together all of a sudden your engine is bad and they laugh and the chubby guy tells you. you need to pay for the trans rebuild and I don t care if you drive it to Florida and back you pay me first! How can you drive it with a bad engine that went bad sitting in the shop?

This is one of the shop you should visit if you need work done on your car, I had my transmission done and my cv joints done there, and haven t had any problems, that s why I recommend shop. I had a good customer experience, Scott was very polite and they did a great job on my vehicle and want hesitate to go back.

Worst place, stay away from this place. I took my car in for a transmission rebuild and for them to change the rear main seal but they didn t end up doing what I paid for. All they said is that it was overheating and needed fluid. I took the car back for them to fix, but they said that the rear main seal wasn t part of the repair after the fact that it was why I took it in the first place.Then they wanted to pay to fix additional repairs stating that if I didn t make those repairs it would void the transmission warranty. So after I paid an additional amount for the additional repairs my car needed the car was still not fixed. When I left the place after the repairs where made I was driving the car and the transmission started to shift and all the transmission fluid was leaking. So then I go back a third time since it s under warranty for said repairs. To which then now, they say the reason for the overheating is a busted intercooler and asking for additional money for the parts. But not once or during the multiple repairs did they let me know I would need that part. The amount of time and money wasted is not worth it I recommended you use someone else. Really disappointed on the service from this shop.

I needed to have my rear windshield wiper arm replaced/installed and it was hard to find someone in the Katy/Cypress area that would take care of it ASAP. When I came to Universal Transmission, Luis P. swiftly took me in and helped with my issue. Regardless how tricky installing it was, Luis managed to find a solution and I couldn t be more satisfied. He had a positive attitude the entire time and made me feel comfortable in the environment. To those who value excellent customer service, affordable prices, and great service in general of course, I would highly recommend Universal Transmission for all your auto-service needs.

Had to take my 2007 Saturn Outlook here for a transmission issue, Maggy assured me that my problem would and could be resolved! She was honest, very nice, knowledgeable and professional! Prices are very reasonable work done was very good I would recommend this establishment to my friends and family, I will continue to have my car repairs done here great staff, mechanics and customer service thanks again!

DO NOT BRING YOUR VEHICLE HERE Horrible THEY HAVE 4 SHOPS IN Houston not even the manager answers the phone about your Vehicle and no one ever knows anything about your repairs or when it will be ready we took our truck they had it for 98 days until we filed a complaint with the BBB to later find out others had the same issues our truck was worse than what we took it for and it cost us a lot of money

Professional, prompt, polite, personable and reasonable! This place deserves 10 stars! Pete, Gio, Dave and Maggie gave me superior customer service at a time when I needed it most! I m highly satisfied with the work Luis & his team has done for me at this location. He is big on customer satisfaction & I couldn t have picked a better place to come. We had a rocky start due to other issues but once I picked up my vehicle he made sure that all things were fine...he put my mind at ease when he explained everything in depth & made sure that I completely understood. Luis has helped me tremendously and made the process for me very easy especially when I knew nothing about transmissions. I plan to continue to use his expertise in all my car needs he is a great mechanic & makes sure all his customers are satisfied & fully aware of all issues & solutions.Thank You Luis & Universal Transmission I appreciate everything y all do!

Stay away from this place .. please I repeat stay away front this place .They took 1 whole month to fix my car and the same day I picked up my vehicle the transmission was already not functioning properly.I took it back for they could fix the issue but it s like they did not care they weren t on it they did not care at all to attend the issue after the fact I had to wait a whole month.The vehicle was just sitting there over a week not being worked on yet. I waited so patiently if they would of called me and tell me why it s sitting or what was the issue it would of been fine but I got 0 calls . It s like they did not care I had to keep calling them too see what was going on The moment I was getting ready to get the police and my lawyer involved now they wanted to get on it and work on it Like I said a simple call and a update would of been great, I do understand issues happen but I was the one who had to keep on calling to see what s going..

Very unprofessional; the lady at the front desk, promised one price and then sky rocketed right after. Tried to tell them to cancel the process and tried to charge me another $395 additional just to put my car back together a fee that I was never told off and was hidden. The owner also charged for warranty, when they should always warranty their work like every other shop does. Went in to also talk to them about the car and the lady at the desk had a pocket knife in her hands and no threats by myself and people who came with me made ZERO threats.Service: Transmission

STAY AWAY! Don't ignore the reviews. Took our jeep (cvt transmission) in and told them several people with experience looked and said we were leaking transmission fluid. That was what we took it in for. "Your jeep is reading low transmission pressure. We have to take it apart for $1,295.00 and go through 300 pieces to find out why." ...low transmission fluid would give this reading. What about the leak? What about the stains on my driveway? Our fluid levels were not even mentioned. I did not say a word. I had my husband pick up our car IMMDIATELY. I was also told by a reputable mechanic that you do not take apart a CVT, you replace it. You were rude, you were very pushy and you raised 50 red flags. NO! "am I telling this to you or your husband, because I don't want to repeat myself" sweetheart, you don't even need to finish what you're saying to me, let alone repeat it. We're gone.

I was referred there due to a previous bad transmission repair they showed me where the previous repair company hadn't properly repaired my unit they showed me difference between good and bad my vehicle was ready when they said it would be the owner personally helped me with my air conditioner great place .Thank you

I had transmission issues with my car not wanting to go past a certain speed. The sales man at the Cypress location was awesome very attentive to my needs and concerns,he even had my car towed in with no charge. He explained step by step what the problem was and how much it costed. I received my vehicle it drives great!!! Have not had any problems. What I like about this shop is that I am a woman and didn't feel pushed or lied to about my repair. I absolutely will refer friends and family!

My Fianc� took his car here to get fixed and had a terrible experience but isn t one to leave a review so I will be the one to warn you all to not give these people any money. They lie and are not trustworthy. They do not keep they re word when they say they are going to call you and then force extra fees out of no where. My fianc� had to pay an extra $700 when he was quoted cheaper from the start. These people are not honest businessmen. Please look around at other shops first and do not trust the first quote they give you because I promise you will pay more in the end. Our hard earned money should not have been robbed the way it was. Do better.
