6 out of 5 stars. Dave is a master of his craft and an absolute pleasure to work with. He is way more than a mechanic more like a scientist with a natural curiosity that shines through in his work as well as how he talks about it. I know he offers consulting/classes and imagine he s an awesome teacher as well; I learned a lot about repair and maintenance just in the few conversations we had.I brought my 2021 Honda Ruckus in after not riding it for about two years, it was in pretty bad condition. Over the course of a few days I watched Dave methodically diagnose and resolve every realized (and potential) problem, resulting in a flawless fix with a newly installed battery charger so I can keep the Ruckus pristine.Labor costs are beyond fair. He doesn t up charge for parts. This guy is the definition of doing it for the love of the art. Go to him for any electrical or mechanical issue.

After leaving LA i was worried it would be hard to find a good mechanic, over there i had a great guy that specialized in Italian bikes and charged half of what the dealership wanted to. I feel so fortunate to have found David / WrenchMonster! He went over everything in detail and gave me multiple options, I can tell he even billed me for less hours then he worked and just went over the call of duty. Seriously impressed and will be recommending him to all my riding friends. You can tell he does this as a true passion and not just like many mechanic shops trying to make the most profit off each customer. You ll be in good hands with David

David, was not only incredibly skilled at performing the necessary repairs and service but also took the time to walk me through the entire process. He shared valuable insights and tips on how to maintain and service my motorcycle, making this not just a repair visit but a truly educational experienceHands down, I will recommend this place

I feel blessed to have found WrenchMonster. I've been riding for a while now, but I've always lacked knowledge on all the tech involved in what it takes to run the bike smoothly and safely. Dave's model of a service garage / training center is exactly what I needed. I took my Indian Scout Bobber for service after riding it 7K+ miles and learned so much about all the intricacies involved. Dave's got it all: the perfect garage set up with all the equipment you'd need, expert-level knowledge, attentive service (asks consultative questions to make sure you get the right parts and equipment for you), and the best prices in town. Dave works on all motorcycle types other than Harleys (which he refers out). Dave saved me big time on level of service and pricing as compared to Indian dealership in south Austin. Dave is also very personable and has some great riding stories. I look forward to working with Dave closely as I continue to ride my scout bobber and add to my bike collection.

Had a great experience with David. Very friendly, valued good rooted person. He was very knowledgeable and explained process step by step for those wanting to learn. Making every concept to wrap mind around an idea in layman s terms. Very educational. He is as well very affordable especially for the amount of attention and care he puts into his work. I have made him my mechanic and plan to recommend him to every bike owner I know. I really do appreciate the experience I had.

David took care of servicing our motorcycle after it had sat for a while. He was great at explaining everything and taking care of the bike. You can tell he treated our bike as if it was his own. He gave us a lot of great advice going forward.

Had a great experience with David! I brought in my 1999 Honda Shadow to get a carb rebuild & maintenance. I am a new motorcycle rider and know very little about working on my bike. He allowed me to actually observe what he was doing while teaching me along the way! He is a pleasure to work with and great at what he does. Not only is my bike now running like new, but I now know much more about it. If you need a motorcycle mechanic in the Austin area, look no further than the Wrench Monster! Thank you David!!

We've been fortunate enough to purchase a couple of workhorse Honda Reflex bikes. Our kids (now grown) all learned to ride on these back and forth to school, having a blast and learning great safety lessons in the process. One thing we didn't do great at was upkeep maintenance.Enter Wrench Monster! David was gracious in hearing our story that neither was start post lock-downs, during which they sat still had while the gas went bad. He quickly provide a quote for carb cleaning both bikes, and subsequently kept us informed of his progress both in text and pix (a couple attached to this review). At my request he also updated me on other items that needed attention or replacement. One-week later we had our bikes back, both running as if new again. Our grown-kids have since graduated to bigger bikes, so the Reflex scooters are now there to enjoy by my wife and I.Thanks to David for helping us get these back into shape, along with your kind suggestions on how to keep them in top shape going forward. We highly recommend Wrench Monster, and look forward to working with him in the future. - Craig in AustinServices: Carburetor cleaning, Brake service & repair, Oil change

I m a Canadian on his way to the Gulf of Mexico because halfway through the pandemic I decided that as soon as the border opened up, I was heading south and going for a swim in the Gulf of Mexico. One week after the border opened, I dodged a weather front coming across L Huron, crossed into the US at Port Huron, sprinted to Iowa to see a real friend, and only then really considered the condition of my tires.Getting quality tires for a big adventure bike during a global supply shortage isn t as easy as I expected. After spending a day looking for tires in MO, I realized the most logical place for me to replace my tires, based on prior commitments, was Austin. I found Wrench Monster using Google Maps.I contacted multiple motorcycle shops, but found Wrench Monster the best option. After contacting him, David reached out to me and took the time to understand my situation and was committed to helping me replace my tires.Having dealt with many motorcycle repair shops during my tours, and generally getting excellent service in the US, David was undoubtedly the best service I ve received.David runs a small shop and you get his personal service. He will take the time to understand your needs, and help identify the best options for getting your bike the service it needs. If it is outside the reach of his experience or capabilities, he s going to be honest with you and direct you to a better option. When you pick up your bike, he s going to tell you anything he noticed that needs attention. Not because he wants repeat business, but because he is concerned with your safety and the best interest of your bike.Even if I ignore the personal service David provided me, Wrench Monster wasn t just competitive with the other Austin motorcycle repair shops I contacted, he ended up being the cheapest. If you need general service for your motorcycle, contact Wrench Monster and David will take the time to figure out how to help you and will provide you service that can t be matched by a motorcycle dealership or general repair shop.Service: Tires

David was so incredibly helpful with the repair on my bike. I was running into a horn issue as I prepared to go in for state inspections. David was available the day my issue arose, was able to see & fix my electrical issue same day + David is very professional & loves to teach. I learned so much in the time David was working on my bike. Will definitely be back for future servicing.Service: Electrical repair

Just got finished with Dave at WrenchMonster. Cannot recommend him enough. I needed to get my first oil change on a 22 Honda Navi. I wanted to be able to ask some questions, see someone work on my bike, and generally get some advice on what maintenance I need to be on the lookout for. He was easily able to change my oil, and proceeded to teach me not only the maintenance I should look for, but he also spent some time showing me examples of parts and how they function, or problems they might run into. Message Dave if you want a job well done and a lesson on how to do it right.Service: Oil change

David is an excellent mechanic. We poured over my motorcycle for a few hours to make sure it's in a great state. Charged the best rate I could find in town and I've been through a few mechanics. I got a carb rebuild for my Suzuki Boulevard S40 and it runs great. I didn't have anywhere to go since my motorcycle is my only method of transportation, so he let me stick around and see what he does and went through the trouble of explaining things.

If you ve got an issue with your motorcycle, I can not recommend taking your bike to Dave at Wrenchmonster more highly. He is communicative, sending pictures and texts updating and instructing during the process, fairly priced and as flexible as a one man shop can be. And this is no bored, hourly employee working on your bike, he s passionate and caring, and I would argue he lands nearer to engineer/inventor than a mere mechanic, a problem solver of the highest order, his diagnostic work is second to none. Upon meeting him I was immediately impressed with his professionalism, and know how, fair and clear pricing and passion for riding motorcycles. I should have wrote this review sooner, I m not looking forward to the day when half of North Austin is trying to book his services. Do yourself a favor and go talk to Dave the next time you have an issue.Service: Carburetor cleaning

Skeptical when I first approached it seemed as if it was just a man in his garage. Opon further inspection I came to the realization that he wasn't your ordinary Out-The-Garage mechanic. He was not only able to repair anything on my motorcycle but said his shop was a learning shop and allowed me to stay and observe the repairs. There aren't a lot of people like that anymore and for that he deserves the five star rating he has. A must for anyone looking to learn the correct way to work on there machines.

My son & his roommate acquired a couple of motorcycles then left town to pursue opportunities keeping them occupied elsewhere. With no plans for them to return anytime soon, the bikes, sat neglected for months. Neither would start. Both needed repairs. Although I have never driven a motorcycle, I ended up w/the titles in my name. What the heck was I supposed to do with these bikes?Luckily for me, one of the motorcycle repair places closest to home was a place I passed by regularly. I had already exchanged neighborly waves with Dave at WrenchMonster. I picked up the phone & gave him a call.During that initial call, he was kind, caring, interested, & helpful. As we worked together, he was thoughtful, conscientious, patient, understanding, & fair. He helped me understand the condition of each bike, what it would take for them to be in safe working order, & to decide on next steps.Along the way, Dave shared meaningful information that had us feeling informed & empowered. His insight & perspective was valuable. I was able to share information w/my son who still cares about & is interested in preserving the life of these bikes. We both learned. He & I are grateful to Dave for sharing his expertise & wisdom with us & for the care & attention he provided to both bikes & humans. My son & I wish he were in the area to be able to take Dave up on his, "Let me teach you how to repair your bike," approach. Maybe yet.Working w/Dave has been a joy & a pleasure. Do yourself a favor & give WrenchMonster a call.

David saved my bacon when I found a nail in my tire on a Sunday! After making quick work of my rear tire replacement we discussed taking care of some routine maintenance that had been overlooked by the previous owner of my new-to-me motorcycle. He was fast, fair, very helpful, and also educated me along the way.Services: Tires, Oil changeServices: Tires, Oil change

The work was done May '19:I bought my replacement mufflers from J&P Cycles (450-413 CHROME UNIV SLIP-ON MUFFLERS) 2 months ago & had failed miserably to get them installed on my bike ('19 Indian scout sixty). I stopped trying once I realized I'd rounded the head on the 1 bolt that was giving me a hard time. So, when Dave dropped off his card on my bike on 13may19, I was more than happy. I figured he had the tools to get this lone bolt off my bike so I could get my new "cans" on and take off the huge/ugly stock "cans". So, I called him & we arranged to meet later that day. After taking a look at the situation we got down to work. It took a little doing to get that bolt off & I was quite happy, but Dave didn't want to stop there, he wanted to take off the stock "cans" & put on the new ones. So, that's what we did & I'm glad we did the complete job. He has the tools necessary to do the job right, I would've done a half-assed job of it. Now my bike looks better & sounds meaner!!! I'll definitely be back to Dave with future work/projects.Go to Dave & get your work done, he is a GREAT guy & knows how to get the job done!

My 2002 Honda VTX1800c sat idle for about 5 years after wires melted. I knew I needed expert level electrical knowledge and must be a motorcycle wrench as well. Wasted money in 2 other shops that couldn t figure it out. Dave wasn t only not afraid of the daunting task of determining why a ground wire melted and then a partial restoration including rust in the gas tank Dave wanted to tackle it and was confident he d figure it all out. Dave being an electrical engineer before he became a motorcycle wrench is I m pretty sure his path that proved to be the knowledge and experience my bike desperately needed. I was close to parting the bike out to get rid of it. That might have caused PTSD in me for years to come if I hadn t found Dave the Wrenchmonster!! Finding Dave of WrenchMonster was the Genius my bike needed. His methodical approach was perfect!! Most shops aren t interested in these types of jobs for probably different reasons. Afterwards I turned my scooter to Dave that wouldn t start anymore. Another 2002 but this a little 2002 Honda Elite CH80 50cc I was pretty sure needed a carb overhaul which it did, and Dave was up for that as well. Prices are all reasonable because he s a genius and doesn t waste time trying to figure it all out. I m only half joking because I ve met and talked with a ton of wrenches over the years and can safely say Dave knows his s__t!!! Dave could have built the VTX better because he analyzed all the ground issues the bike was manufactured with including powder coating the frame. After 5 long long years I got my baby back running!! Dave is the man!!!Services: Carburetor cleaning, Electrical repair, Battery, Oil change

I highly recommend Wrench Monster (Dave)! Excellent communication, expertise and service! He had a real interest in the engineering of the motorcyle, and was very easy to work with. Dave wrote a really nice summary of the work done on the bike (complete with pics) that I shared with my 8 siblings and parents, who all loved the comments and pictures! Dave was very conscientious of price and had me run some Berrymans B-12 thru the bike before ordering a new carb, just in case that would have been a cheap fix. I feel lucky to have found him and that I live so close to him as well! Even if he were further away it would be well worth the drive!Services: Carburetor cleaning, Electrical repair, Tires, Engine repair, Brake service & repair, Oil change

I've had an ongoing intake problem with my VTX1300. I've taken it to several mechanics that can't seem to get it right. I picked it up from Dave's the other day and have taken my girl for some hard rides. I've experienced no hiccups. He explained everything in great detail as to what he found and why he considers it the root cause that would create the issue. So you not only get your vehicle fixed you get a full detailed explanation as to why it's fixed correctly this time. If any of my friends need their bike serviced I'm recommending WRENCHMONSTER.Services: Carburetor cleaning, Electrical repair, Brake service & repair
