Been servicing my 2002 Toyota Tacoma (258,368 mi) with Rising Sun since 2016. Staff, including Jason and David, have been nothing short of exceptional. Credit to Rising Sun Japanese Auto Service for keeping this 22 year old truck running smoothly and on the road.

Excellent repair shop for Japanese vehicles. David and his team performed a road trip check on my 2018 Corolla, and changed front brakes and rotors same day. Price was reasonable for the area, and had the service done sooner than expected. They also (intentionally/unintentionally?) fixed my squeaky suspension, I assume they lubricated the joints or something. Regardless, it was a bonus and goes to show the attention to detail.

Had a full engine replacement for a Toyota Camry. Ended up being over $6k. Could have gotten it done cheaper, but wanted a specialist. So far, so good, car is running very well after several weeks.

This was the first time I've left a car repair shop feeling great. From the first interaction over the phone, to dropping my car off, to checkout, and driving away in a much-safer-feeling Lexus, this shop took good care of me. As a woman, it is no secret that you are going to be hyper vigilant to shops trying to take advantage of you. But Rising Sun was fair, honest, and knowledgeable about my car - which is all I could ask for. I got my brakes and rotors replaced, but I will be coming here for all other needs. Highly recommend.Service: Brakes

Best mechanic I've been to in the Austin area. Honesty is my highest priority for a good mechanic and Rising Sun has top notch mechanics who only suggest you to fix things that are vital. Highly recommended.

Called for a quote on replacing my late mothers 1995 4runner head gasket. They said they would get a quote together for me and call back. They didn't call me back and when I called they said "Yeah we're not going to do that, it's too old." Then hung up. I don't care about the cost as this car has sentimental value to me. My daughter is about to start driving and I am planning to sink 10k plus into this car to restore it. They could have explained their reasons and possibly offered an alternative shop. Or at least said sorry we don't work on cars older than X years. Guess they have so many customers they don't care who they blow off.

Honest, competent, fairly priced and centrally located. Everything one needs in a mechanic shop. When your car breaks down it s comforting to know where it needs to go.

I popped into here for a break maintenance light, the gentleman behind the counter said they couldn t really get it it for a week but it may just be fluid levels. He came out and filled the reservoir for free and sent me on my way! Excellent customer service. Brake lights off. I ll definitely be coming here for maintenance on my Mazda after setting an appointment.

Best auto mechanic experiences I ve ever had. Going on five years of coming here with our Toyota and Honda and this is the first place I ve ever trusted. To the extent where in the future I ll hesitate to purchase a vehicle they can t work on.

I shouldn't continue to be surprised by their honesty, but I still am after their work on 3 of my family's cars. At times over the last decade, I've been convinced that there were major problems with my Elantra or my wife's Fit, but they usually came back with quick, simple, cheap fixes. This week, I had a tow truck bring in my uncle's 2010 Miata that hadn't been driven in at least 4 years and wouldn't start, even when the battery was connected to a power source. I expected multiple issues and a bill easily exceeding $1000; even $2000 wouldn't have surprised me. I also told them there was no rush in examining or fixing it.They got back to me less than a day later and said that after some diagnostics, all it needed was a new battery. That's it. They could've charged me ten times as much for unnecessary work, and I wouldn't have batted an eye. These are good folks who do good work.Services: Auto battery replacement, Auto engine diagnostic, Vehicle Inspection

So according to the attached quote, it takes three hours to perform (quote generated at 1:35 and completed 4:32) an oil change, tire rotation, air filter replacement and general inspection, A.K.A. 30K mile service for Toyotas. Customer service was great but I did not receive a call in a advance for a quote (which the clerk apologized for) and I did not request one upfront (although I did request one for just the oil change and filter over the phone which were quoted at roughly $80 and $20 respectively). Do I feel they overcharged for labor hours? Yes. Although $90/hr itself is standard, this should be 2hr job at most. Is it partly my fault for not asking for a quote upfront or debating the cost? Yes. Either way, it s just disappointing that a shop would think this is okay. Then again, its not their job to save their customers money. It s a business just like any other after all. Also, I asked about getting a tire patched up but the clerk informed that unfortunately they don t do any tire work. They could ve at least put air in the tire to get the pressure sensor to turn off. You think they would attempt to diagnose the problem since they are doing a general maintenance service anyways right?Edit: The shop owner called me and assured me he found the lowest rate possible by reducing estimated labor time from 2.7hrs to 1.8hrs. He also said that the labor rate at his shop is consistent with others in the same area @ $150/hr. Also gave me a 10% refund for being a first time customer. As far as the tire issue, the mechanics though since my tires were Nitrogen based instead of regular air they should not fill them up.Services: Air & cabin filter replacement, General repairs & maintenance, Auto maintenance, Oil change

Went to this shop because it has great reviews and I had high hopes of fair honest service. After taking my recently purchased vehicle in for an inspection I will never go back. Not only was I brushed off when I dropped off my vehicle the time frame of my appointment was not maintained so I did not have my vehicle back for work. I had to call multiple times to get an update and was dismissed until I demanded to be spoken with. They also tried to rip me off for every repair possible. In addition the prices they quoted me being several hundred dollars over what any other garage would have charged. You should not profile your customers. Some women know quite a bit about auto maintenance and repair. I was hoping to have someone else take care of it but now I will do it on my own.

I couldn t say better things about Rising Sun. I brought my Nissan Rogue in with some serious issues. Not only did they work with me to provide safe solutions for my car but they were more than generous in their pricing. Not only were they upfront, honest, and fair but they made sure my vehicle was repaired in just a few hours. It also turned out that I needed a few new tires. David knew I was tight financially, so he called around for me to price check tires. I don t think I will trust anyone other than Rising Sun with my vehicle.

They performed an engine swap in about 2 days. Amazing turn around time, and quality work. Prices for everything was reasonable.

The guys out at Rising Sun are skilled, honest, and thorough. I've taken my Land Cruisers there for the past 5 years and wouldn't think of visiting a different shop.***Adding in a follow up on this review from a while back. I had some serious starting issues going on and as usual, they diagnosed in no time and had me back on the road the next day. Can't recommend this place enough.Great, knowledgeable team and fair prices. Also David, the owner, called me back a couple of weeks later just to check that we'd identified the right issue. Wow, super cool.

I took my 2008 Tundra to the North location, unsure what was wrong with it, just knowing it was misfiring and the engine check lights would not go off. I left it at the shop and was contacted throughout the day by Daniel, with pictures of the mangled injector. He kept me informed of everything he did, asked what I wanted before proceeding, and then I was given a bill that was extremely reasonable for the excellent service provided. They are the best in Austin, and I'm taking another friend there today. That's the best recommendation of all, I think. They are great.

Honestly the best experience with an auto shop. They were polite, offered a better price than the competition. Notified me of other issues with my car that they were willing to fix, and when I got my car back it felt absolutely brand new. Couldn't recommend more. They also somehow fixed my radio and I never even asked!

Very poor customer service. I called on the phone to schedule an appointment and was provided a time slot. The person on the phone never thought it worth either of our time to ask what the service would be for.I arrived at the shop on my scheduled appointment time only to be asked questions that should have been asked on the phone and then told they weren't going to work on it. This could've been handled on the phone if they only asked a couple questions. Then the shop person thought it was ok to say "You never told us what you were coming for". That's not my job. You're the mechanics, you should be qualifying the jobs you're intaking before accepting them.As a result of this, both my time and the shops time were wasted during the ordeal. Lesson learned.

The integrity upon which they hold their work is shown in everything they do -- from the way they carefully answer your questions, to the way they carefully lay out parts vs labor costs as well as their recommendations. It is honestly a luxury to go to a dealership where you're not always on alert about a possible scam or unneeded repair they might sneakily slide into the bill. Everything they do is honest and handled with a degree of professionalism seldom found in other auto service businesses. I wholeheartedly recommend it.

This shop is great! They're my go-to to diagnose whenever I have something wrong with my car. They go above and beyond and their prices are fair!I tend to do my own work because I have a habit of upgrading / modding my car whenever something breaks, but I trust these guys more than anyone in Austin to tell me what's wrong first and give it to me straight. Highly reccomend!

The people are easy going and really helpful! They helped me figure out a noise coming from my WRX and got it all fixed up! We also took our older 4Runner to get the breaks flushed and they were able to get it done quickly so we could go camping the next day. Excellent service!

Dave and his crew are truly some of the most honest mechanics I've met. I spent 2 weeks going back and forth with Dave on what I suspected was the issue with my 4Runner and at first he stated there was no issue but eventually confirmed it when we rode together. He admitted it was an oversight and I realized they run a good business since everyone makes mistakes sometimes but it's what you do to make it right at the end that counts!Service: Steering & suspension repair

I've depended on these guys for over two years now to help with all the big and little things that can go wrong with an older vehicle. They are pleasant, efficient , competent and extremely honest. When I needed to replace my tires, they even offered to put them on at no charge as a convenience to me if I bought them next door but also told me where to go for the best value. So thankful to have them nearby!!!!

David, Dave and the team at Rising Sun Auto are at the top of their craft. Consummate professionals, they take their time to ask the right questions and do the quality work required to get you on the road, at fair market prices. Background:I am extremely particular about where or who services my vehicles, as I like to do most of my own work. I brought my 2014 Titan PRO-4X in for a mystery noise after a long move back to TX from CA. David took the time to go over the issue with me, came along on a road test and we were able to recreate the problem. I gave him a list of additional items I wanted looked at. He covered all the items and then some! Picked the truck back up, the noise is gone and it drives like new. They have definitely earned my future business.

My girlfriend takes her car here. This place is wonderful. They're friendly and quick when dropping off and picking up your vehicle. Their prices are extremely fair and they do good work. I'm very thankful that my friend recommended this place to us. We trust the guys at Rising Sun.

I've been going to Rising Sun, both the North and South location, for many years. Dave and David are great. They are honest, the mechanics are competent yet quick, and their prices are competitive. Best of all, they always give me a lower quote than it actually turns out to be! I recommend them highly.

I like this feeling of confidence and trust. Peace of mind about what to do when my non dealer car needs a tweak or makes a noise or just needs an oil change is a new feeling to me.I don t ever want to go back to the pre rising sun uncertainty. Now I know who to call and how I ll be treated and that I ll be charged fairly every time.It s practically a luxury.

Our highlander was experiencing some issues starting up right away, and we feared that the starter itself was going out. We dropped the car off at night and the next morning early we got a phone call stating that it was most likely the battery and nothing else. The repair was quick and reasonable. The shop is immaculate and the service there is always amazing. I will continue to take my import cars there.
