I recently had Rising Sun do some preventative maintenance on my 2022 Toyota GR86 because I put serious miles on my car for work. I thought their quote was fair and communication was excellent. They really care about what they are doing and I felt like they treated my car as if it was theirs. They took the time to make sure the work was done correctly. They actually listened to what I was saying and had excellent recommendations. I can't praise Brandon and Alexis enough! I will definitely go back and am glad to know there is such a wonderful option in Austin! Thank you.

Rising Sun has taken care of our Subaru more than once and we have been satisfied with the results every time! Our car is over 10 years old and 100k miles and they help us keep our Suby running smoothly.We find that they are more honest than the Subaru dealership about what needs to be repaired or replaced which has saved us valuable $$$.We appreciate that they take the time to fully diagnose issues rather than recommend full replacements for parts that don't yet need replaced.

Rising Sun has helped us a few times with our problem child Land Rover Disco 2, they are one of two places in the area that will work on it. They do great work, turn over is quick, we've never had a problem just driving (towing) it over last minute. I highly recommend them and will likely be using them again!

These guys are the best if you have a Japanese car. They are fair and reasonable with pricing and they know these types of cars so well. I have taken my 4Runner in twice for routine maintenance at 50k and 100k miles and it runs great!

I refuse to take our cars anywhere else. Brandon is probably one of the nicest people I ve ever met in my entire life and as a woman who has felt taken advantage of by many car mechanics in the past that s an enormous breath of fresh air. They re super knowledgeable and fairly priced. They ve made a customer for life as far as I m concerned.

Their friendly and fast same-day service made me question why I ve been going to the dealership service dept all these years. They quoted me for some essential tune-up items as well as more expensive preventive service, and when I opted against the latter, they never pressured me, and talked me through what I should watch out and listen for to know when those items become more urgent which is exactly what I want in a mechanic.

Great service from start to finish. I really appreciate the honesty and service of what my 2000 Celica needs. They did the legwork for looking for the parts needed which being the car is pretty old, and gave me their quote to replace them. Highly recommended!!

I took my three-year-old Honda in today to have the battery tested and replaced, the first thing it has ever needed. I've been doing business with Rising Sun since 1984 when Allen Walker owned the business, and now with Brandon since he bought it. I've found them to be consistently technically competent, thorough at explaining the diagnosis, recommended repairs and options, accurate in estimating repair costs, pleasant to deal with, and quick to make it right on these extremely rare occasions. They've also had coupons or have negotiated small discounts from time to time. After not needing any car repairs for three years, today I was glad to find that it is business as usual at Rising Sun.Service: Battery

Best mechanic in town. I'm an Uber driver so I get a lot of work done on my car. I don't let anyone else work on my car. I've been ripped off by other mechanics in town, but Rising Sun is always honest.

Loveee bringing my car here for maintenance ,expected and unexpected. The workers are very personable and allow me to feel at ease with their knowledge and help. I like to ask lots of questions to better understand my carand just have more knowledge and they always answer my questions w/ no hesitation. Highly recommend!

Brandon, Pete and the crew at Rising Sun, not only fixed my problem efficiently, they were most importantly affordable and honest with the steps they would take. I couldn't recommend the Rising Sun team more. Absolutely everything you could look for when trying to get honest work.

Earlier this year, I purchased a 100 series land cruiser. The truck has low miles for the year, but had a bunch of maintenance that needed to be done (fluids, exhaust, cv axels etc). The team at Rising Sun did a full inspection of my truck, let me know what needed to be done, and gave me feedback as to the urgency of each repair so that I could space them out.All repairs were done quickly with OEM parts. While some reviewers bring up the comparatively "high cost" of the repairs, what they fail to mention is that you are paying for quality labor & OEM parts. Land Cruisers are not easy cars to work on. I'll continue to bring my Land Cruiser to Rising Sun for routine maintenance / repairs. Highly recommend!

I was pleasantly surprised at how friendly and generous Rising Sun staff were, and how clean and professional the establishment looks.I had come in because I heard a strange, subtle sound in my 2010 Honda Accord. They drove it and communicated they couldn t hear anything, and kindly comped the diagnostic fee.Later, I realized the sound couldn t be heard with the windows up, and could only be heard when there was something to bounce the sound back, like in a parking garage. With some friends I identified which tire the sound emanated from.With this info I brought it back, and John took a quick look and immediately spotted a nail. He once again and very kindly waived any fees, and recommended I take it to a tire shop.After passing on Discount Tires due to sales tactics, I took it to Tire Man and got it patched in 20 minutes for $20.I feel happy with the service from Rising Sun.

There are not enough words to describe how great this place is.Brandon, John, and the whole team that are behind Rising Sun Auto have been the most honest, thorough, and downright kind people I have ever worked with.I took my FJ40 in to Rising Sun for maintenance for evaluation. I know very little about these trucks and simply needed guidance. Brandon went to great lengths to inspect the truck and give me the information that I needed. It was like having older brothers that were looking out for me.I will be only using this auto shop from here on out.Thank you all so much!!Services: General repairs & maintenance, Oil change

Brought in a pretty banged up and dirty 4runner and got an inspection done on the car. Friendly enough folk here, but the quote they gave me for each piece of work was extremely high and they didn't specify what was critical or what could wait.Overall, it felt like I was getting stiffed. Took the same car to a different auto shop and got a lower quote, order of necessity, and much more transparency about the state of the car.Service: Vehicle Inspection

My first experience with Rising Sun was so so wonderful! It can be a little overwhelming knowing what to choose or ask for in terms of service for my car, but John was extremely kind and helpful through the process. I have been coming to Rising Sun Auto since mid-2015 with my 1995 Isuzu "Super" Trooper for small and major repairs/replacement parts along the way from 184,000 miles to almost 300,000 miles now. Brandon was always a straight shooting guy running this real"Mom & Pop" shop, and the guys in the shop have always delivered on quality work I can trust.I have never let another shop touch my classic Japanese 4x4! Even when we had some issues getting my axle seals squared away and I had to bring the vehicle back to warranty the work I remained a good customer and I always will. These guys deserve a "Go Local" medal in my book and I am content knowing all of the work and money I spent on my vehicle counted. 5 Stars!!!

I called in the morning to get my tail light fixed and they were able to do it quickly within 30 minutes. Customer service was excellent! I ll definitely be going back here again when I need help fixing my car.

A++. I have received consistently excellent and fairly priced work from the folks at Rising Sun for regular oil changes, minor maintenance and major a/c repairs on my 2015 Subaru Crosstrek. John and his crew are very polite and knowledgeable and I am thankful to them for keeping my car running well!

Very friendly staff. Came in to diagnose a sound I was hearing from either the tire or suspension. They said they couldn t hear or find anything wrong during inspection/test drive. Knew I wasn t crazy so I looked at it at home and found a massive nail in the tire. Not sure how this was missed when the car was there all day.

Atrocious! I see a few other reviews with my same experience. WAY over-charged! They would not justify the listed labor cost because it is what the "computer logged," ended up charging $450 on a repair that took less than an hour.They state the repair was authorized, but was not. When asked to undo the repair to take the vehicle elsewhere they refused.I asked my local mechanic and priced other quotes and ALL of them were way less. The highest being 1/3 the cost these unethical charlatans billed. The manager gave his name as "John" but refused a last name. He flat out refused to provide any justification for such an exorbitant fee then unprofessionally walked away. Unfortunately for him dealing with upset customers is part of life and "taking your ball and going home" is not only exceptionally rude, but highly unprofessional.Anybody can "cook the books" and increase billing even if logged in a computerized system. I am not sure they did they because but i am left to assume they did because a collegial conversation turned immediately hostile and defensive when questioned. So I am left to assume that John and his team and unscrupulous and underhanded.Having now talked personally with others with the similar experiences I question the inflated rating and reviews.

They don't give quotes for work "even for oil changes" before a $180 diagnostic? Tried to ask questions to understand and he said he was "done with the conversation" like I was being rude? Avoid at all costs should have known better with a repair shop in the most expensive neighborhood

Shadiest experience I've ever had at a repair shop. I went in for a simple check engine light that was due to a loose hose. They came back recommending another $3,000 of repairs that needed to be made. I took the car to the dealer to verify those $3,000 of repairs. Yeah, what a scam. Nothing they diagnosed was true. Nothing. They charged me for an oil change that they never did. They never called me to tell me they forgot to change my oil. They just didn't do it and charged me for it.

I imported a diesel 1991 80s series Landcruiser last year. I had Rising Sun help me find and install a 3 inch lift, new alternator and upgraded brakes. They have been invaluable in helping me restore and upgrade this old truck. They give me honest advise on the ins and outs of different types of upgrades. Then I make them a list of things to check, fix and install. Then they get it done.

They can t really help with a really old vehicle the way my countryside mechanic is willing to but there s a value for excellence here and the transparent review they provided me was extremely helpful to gauge the next steps for my 99 Lexus RX300.John responded to my email inquiry extremely fast and was short, respectful, available, and thorough.I was nervous going in because I know this car has a dodgy history in the family and wasn t the best kept- John didn t give me an ounce of judgement. Just an honest assessment. I decided not to move forward with repairs and they kindly comped any assessment fee.I left with a very positive impression and know Rising Sun Auto will provide trustworthy service when I eventually get my own car that I want to keep in shape

It was my first time working with John and Bryan at Rising and they'll be my go to from here on out! From the initial phone call to visiting the shop in-person, I appreciated their warm and friendly communication. It can often be a nerve-wracking experience bringing your car into the shop as a woman, but I immediately felt comfortable with their professional and welcoming attitude. They were patient with me and my questions as well as being transparent and honest. I recommend them whole-heartedly!
