I went to Daves Ultimate Automotive on North Lamar on Wednesday March 27th to check my squeaky brakes, and could have died because of it. They were friendly and told me I had more miles before I needed to replace. If they did replace they can't just do pads so its $1200 + which is wild. I was driving back and forth from work on I35 all of this week and kept hearing a sound from my front left tire. I checked to see if I had snagged something and it was smacking the tire well, but no. Dave's Ultimate Automotive only tightened two bolts on the front left wheel of my FWD car. I could have easily lost my life this week on I35 from something I would not have realized if I did not have busted speakers. I just expect more from a place like this.

I have brought my car to Dave's three times. I always feel a great vibe from the folks here. I feel they are honest in their assessment of issues and are competitive in their prices. Good service. I will continue to come to them for my auto needs.

The most honest auto repair shop I've been to. They don't try to upsell services. Went here for a second opinion when another shop claimed the vehicle's coolant tank had a leak after it was originally taken in because of a recall for the oil strainer. Dave's Ultimate Automotive investigated and found no issues with the coolant tank and didn't charge for checking since there wasn't anything to fix. They have integrity.

I was searching for a skilled, efficient, and trustworthy local automotive repair shop that could work on my 2009 Toyota Prius when Dave's was recommended to me. There are few affordable local shops that are equipped and knowledgeable enough to repair hybrids, but thankfully Dave's has an experienced hybrid mechanic who was able to properly repair my Automatic Braking System (ABS) - not a small job! - in just a couple days time, as well as with a warranty for the repairs. I was extremely pleased with the results of how well it now drives, as well as grateful for how well I was treated customer-service wise by Alex and Brett. I was able to get all my questions answered by these two and felt very confident turning my vehicle over to them. Hopefully I won't have to go back soon, but when I d need a future repair, I will return to Dave's. Thanks y'all!

The struts and shocks on my car are getting old so I went to Dave's to have them replaced. Picked the place because its close to where I live. Was impressed by the professionalism and efficiency of their work. From drop-off to pick-up it took 2 days only. Shout out to Alex for explaining things in detail and making appropriate suggestions.

Very nice place with Great Hard Working Proffessionals. We got our car taken care of. Everything went well. The hospitality is excellent. They make sure clients are safe as well. I was waiting outside for my Uber and one representative asked me to come inside and wait from inside. That was early in the morning around 7am. I felt welcome! Just know that when you leave your car with them, it s safe and they will take good care of it.

I love dealing with these guys. They are 5 stars every single time.Whether I call them with a silly question, to request records, or to have them explain something 3 times, everyone I interract with is top-tier with their patience and friendliness. NEVER TAKE YOUR CAR OUT OF THIS PLACE IF THEY CAUSE A FAILURE. DOCUMENT ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING THEY DO TO PROTECT YOURSELF AND HARD-EARNED MONEY.I came here after having terrible experiences with other shops. Everything started okay for two years until this year. My wife noticed significant scratches on the door handles of two of our cars, which looked likely caused by hitting the lifts. Of course, the shop representative will think it is unlikely and blame the customer, but since the evidence of their pictures pointed their way, begrudgingly offered to have one of my cars repaired with their body shop partner. That would mean I would be without a car for an unknown amount of time, which is not cost-effective.Now, this is where problems started. Before I brought those cars for service, I had brought my wife s older SUV, which gave me some trouble for a diagnostic. The repairs were an estimated $3,800 , obviously not worth the investment. I said I would do the repairs in my free time; when I took it out, the A/C was not working, so I drove back and asked what happened. He looked surprised and was like I don t know what happened and left it again; he called me again to have it picked up and said, it could be that since many things are wrong, the computer shuts things off to protect itself just do the repairs and bring it back to see what happened to the A/C. After doing the major repairs myself and seeing the botched work from previous shops, I corrected the major issues with oil leaks. When I returned, I asked him if the A/C was still not working and if they could check my ECU for a possible shortage since I noticed the ignition coil connectors were not the original but cheap ones. He obviously did not remember me and had not written anything about the A/C, so it was easy to dismiss me by saying that he would charge to diagnose the A/C and would charge double diagnosis for my repairs to find what I did. I have been through this and realized there is no trustworthy shop, so I just walked out.Be very wary of major repairs if you choose this shop and document everything they do. It is just as good as any oil change shop; anything else you will get you milked. They take no accountability, and the blame game goes one way: the customer. It is annoying how when you call them out on anything that can make them liable, they have a surprised look and downplay it to make you leave like they will do something about it later. But when the time comes for you to ask for help, they will point the finger in your direction because it is just safe to assume customers are at fault. After all, you are the one coming to them.The sad part is they have no clue about anyone's background. They assume everyone who walks through their door knows nothing about cars and treat you like an idiot to avoid taking action on their fake promises and mistakes.

To Long Didn't Read: Their team is very nice, but their work, in my opinion, resulted in my car being totaled just 3 days after bringing it into their shop.First off, I don't really write reviews at all, but I don't want anybody to make the same mistake that I did. I've been bringing my Ford Fusion Energi into Dave's since I moved to Austin in 2022. I've been on time with every oil change and always ask them to check up on the car. When they inevitably find things that need to be worked on, I got them done.Recently, I have been noticing strange sounds coming out of the car and they were intensifying. It sounded bad. I brought the car in, asked for an oil change and for them to look into why my car sounded awful.I picked up the car and they explained the sound was likely the Electric Battery going out (It's a plug-in hybrid), a common problem among the cars, as they explained. It's a very expensive fix and wasn't worth doing. They suggested no more inspections and weren't concerned about the noises.The car still sounded awful when I picked it up, but I didn't think anything of it because they told me that everything was fine. Three days later, I was driving on the highway and the car shut down saying that the motor coolant was overheating. After turning the car on and off several times, I made it to the side of the road. I had the car taken to another mechanic, and they let me know that the transmission was wrecked and would cost ~$5,000 to replace.I called Dave's to see if they would make it right by replacing the transmission at cost or a discount, but they would do nothing for me. I liked Dave's but I will not be taking any future cars there.

I came here to have my AC replaced and two weeks after they fixed it, I noticed I had a small oil leak. I brought it back here to get that checked because I had a good experience with the AC repair. They said they noticed the leak when fixing my AC (but didn't mention it to me) and that I should just get a new car because it would cost a minimum of $6k to fix. They didn't even know where the leaks were coming from at this point. Instead, I took it to a different mechanic who found two leaks and fixed them for $600. How on earth is there such a big difference in price there? And why would you wait until after fixing my AC (which was not cheap) to tell me I had an oil leak and that I should get a new car? What kind of mechanic sees a problem and doesn't tell the car owner that there's another issue? I originally gave a 5 star review because my experience with my AC was good, but I will not be coming back here.

STAY AWAY!! These people are the definition of unprofessional and rude not to mention money hungry!! My car got towed there on a weekend so I had to wait till Monday to see what s up with it. I called Monday morning to see what was up with it and they said they haven t looked at it because they had cars in front of mine. That s fine totally understandable so I waited all day and a half hour before they closed I called to see if my car had gotten on a lift yet. That s when the rudeness started, the owner answered the phone(he s a legit P.O.S) and acted annoyed that I was even calling to ask about my car. He was super dismissive and said I don t even know if it s on the lift yet .So go look? Is that too much to ask? I don t mind being on hold. Needless to say he didn t so I had no idea what was going on with my car. They never once called me I had to keep pestering them to get any sort of response. When they finally did get my car on a lift and looked at (end of Tuesday) they tried to quote me at $5200 dollars for a $2500-$3000 dollar job. After I told them I ll just have my car towed somewhere else they want to charge me $175 dollars for their diagnostic of the car everyone other place I ve taken my cars to it s usually free or at the most $80 bucks. These people don t care about you only money definitely STAY FAR AWAY!!

Great service at competitive prices. I bring all my vehicles here for repairs and receive the same consistent service each and every time. A customer shuttle is available if needed and they even provide no charge loaner vehicles. Brilliant! Ask for Tommy!

First time experience was great. Came in because some paneling under my car came loose and was constantly scraping the concrete. After dropping my car off, I was called back in to pick it up and they told me it was a simple fix, and just needed some plastic screws to put everything back together. Best part of it - they said it was free of charge because they didn t think it we a serious issue ! Made my day. Thanks guys. Will definitely be coming back when my car is in need of another look at.

Solid, kind, and honest service here! I ve brought in my car a couple of times and had a great experience with each. I was given a suggestion and quote for new shocks but with no pressure to get them replaced, but ended up doing so. And doing a little research for each service, pricing was fair. Definitely recommend.

I took my car here to get a leaky tire patched, brakes inspected, tire rotation if needed, and a state inspection. They called me back and said the patch was simple, brakes looked great, and the tires weren't in need of rotation. The only thing they charged me for was the state inspection.Matt at the front helped me and he was incredibly kind, clear in communication, and an all around professional.I would HIGHLY recommend this location to anyone looking for a mechanic who cares about doing right by the customer!Services: Tires, General repairs & maintenance

Sadly, our car needed a new engine. Not terribly surprising. Good news, we found a great mechanic for our new car! (Our regular shop closed down recently Precision Auto was pretty awesome and will be missed.)The people at Dave s were amazing super patient with us while we scrambled to deal with the old car, and I can tell that they are honest. I tried to get them to band-aid the issue with the old car, but even though they could have done some stuff and charged us, they were honest even though the truth hurt. We will DEFINITELY be using them as our new mechanic!

I love Dave's Ultimate Automotive on North Lamar Blvd. They're always respectful and honest, and give great discounts. They do great work and I know that I can take my vehicle there to get done what needs to be done - usually affordably. I appreciate that they still do the free vehicle courtesy check of all the systems and fluids. When I had to leave my car with them for a few days, they even let me use a loaner vehicle for free! And I always get a Carfax report from them after servicing my vehicle which is handy. Their staff are friendly and respectful, and never pressure you to do any sort of work.
