If you need head or engine work this is the place to go. As with anything, you need to plan and schedule with these guys accordingly because they have a huge work load and orders are completed in the order they are received. Great Staff , extremely knowledgeable in everything engine related. There is no other machine shop in ATX area that does what these guys do. They are truly experts in the craft and I love giving them $$$$. Thanks Mike and M&M!!!!

Amazing experience, service, quality of work, reasonable pricing and willingness to share knowledge and expertise! These guys are nuts, like nuts n bolts n honey..Manuel here pressing my wheel bearings with precision..Also..Talking with a couple of the guys in the back has also led me to realize that my Acura with bent valves is actually NOT a beyond repair lost cause..It's just sitting there doing nothing I may as well tear it apart and bring them the damaged parts. So now I get to learn how to do a head gasket and replace bent valves tooCan't wait to get greasy wit itCome see these guys they are badass

I've been coming here since they were South Austin Machine Shop on Manchaca and Lamar. Mike Chavez runs a great shop! The guys there really know their stuff and are always willing to help. They've done several engines and heads for me over the years and I've never been disappointed. They've even shown me how to do some things I wanted to do myself and their prices have always been reasonable. A lot of times Mike even gets me performance parts cheaper than Summit or Jegs. I love these guys!

Walked in and simply needed a steel motor shaft drilled and tapped. I was told they didn t do that and to go elsewhere. Not much of a machine shop I guess or maybe just didn t want the business.

I waited months before typing this so I wouldn't seem overly rude. Save your time and money and find somewhere else to go. They were to turn the crankshaft and messed that up. I had a place out of town check the specs because it would not spin freely when installed and they were rude about it when I brought it to their attention. They did offer to make it right so I took it back to them and they assured me it was ready for installation. I had it doubled checked again because they sent it out the first time without checking the specs. It was still out of specs and I was out weeks of time and about $200. The state the crankshaft was in left me with buying a new one.Aside from wasting my time and money it was the arrogance and blatant rudeness that was the most upsetting about the experience. I spoke with one of the employees who was polite and he was the one who suggested making the situation right but the owner could truly care less about the impact of doing such poor work. If I had installed the crankshaft with their word that it was fixed it would have cost me thousands and left me buying a new engine.Keeping in mind that I brought them a Subaru crankshaft and they may do better work with domestic and larger engines. I did choose them because their website states imports as well but the work wasn't even done in shop so know that someone else is doing the work and they will not actually be checking clearances or doing the work.Side note: If you re basing your review on a machine shop having a real shop feel or smell you need to get out more.

I recently took and engine to Austin Machine Shop for a complete rebuild. When I arrived someone helped to unload the engine parts. The helper told me to go to the office to get an invoice generated.I went to the office to talk with and described the work I needed done to the office person. I said I needed the engine rebuilt and watch the office person write down what I needed. I asked about how long it would take. Was told they are very busy and they were about three weeks behind. After three weeks l called to see how progress was going. I was told nothing is being done because there is no invoice. I then had to work with the office person to get another invoice generated. This put me in the back of the three weeks line again.I feel I was discriminated at this business. So if you got six weeks to wait to get a motor rebuilt, Austin Machine Shop is the place to go.

This is an absolute TERRIBLE machine shop if you actually care about your stuff. If you just need a simple valve job and don't really care how clean it looks, then fine. But if you are actually looking for nice clean work and professionalism, you're looking to the wrong place. I brought them a block to be align bored, a head to be cleaned, valve job, new valve springs, etc. and an intake manifold to be cleaned. I was told that they would take the time to actually make the head and intake look new, they did not. We also discussed that if the paint on the block was harmed in anyway, that they would just remove all of it for me, so that I could repaint it. My block looks like garbage now and the paint was not removed. They don't do anything of significance in house, they sent my crank and block away to be machined in Waco. They charged me double what I was quoted for the machine work on the block, and I was never called or informed about this before it was done, so the the end cost was significantly higher than my original quote without my consent. And to top it all off, after paying in the office for this terrible service, I come out to find all my parts just laying in the parking lot behind my truck. I will NEVER go back to this place, and I would NEVER recommend anyone else go there either. Looks like Austin needs a good machine shop.

Came in for a head repair. After speaking to one of the machinists I found out I didn't need their service at all. I am very appreciative of his honesty, he could have easily mislead me for profit. I will recommend this shop until the day I leave Texas and I hope you will choose to use them if you are shopping for their service.

Friendly and respectable staff. Went here on a long shot and they weren't able to work on a piece of machinery I had break. But the guy in the shop knew just which to send me for what I needed. They didn't make a dime and were friendly, welcoming, smiled and I am not local yet still sent me to where I needed to go. Will definitely be using these guy's in the future.

I'm a consumer, not a business so, please take that into account when reading this review. These guys really know their stuff but are not good with communication and project management for consumers. They do a lot of business to business work. If you are a consumer, then you need to get an engine builder who is meticulous to handle all of the loose ends related to completing a long block the right way and will support the build as it's integrated with the rest of the car. Austin Auto Machine did good work building my short block and cylinder heads (except leaving out one oil pan bolt) but currently did not have the ability to plane the surfaces on intakes or balance rotating assemblies. hopefully in the near future they will get these capabilities in-house as it would likely speed up the turn-around on a short block and be a one stop shop for all your machining needs. The build took 3 months because they had a heavy work load (commercial customers). I also ended up with a leaking oil pan after the build and the price on one service was higher than originally quoted. From what I could tell, they do a lot of work for dealerships and professional engine builders. While, the guys are friendly and knowledgeable; for a general consumer who is working on getting their daily driver back on the road, it was not reliable overall. If you have a professional consultant/builder to handle all the loose ends, then you'll have no trouble with this machine shop.

Had my wheel bearings pressed here for my Subaru. The pressing was a decent deal, but their pricing on getting a broken screw out was not. I'm thinking about using them for my next engine rebuild to get my heads and block faced and the seals redone.

I have never had a problem with this machine shop. The people are always great and the work is always right. I will use them again in the future. I have an independent repair shop so they get a lot of my machine work. I am always happy with the work they do.

For ONE they don't answer the phone. TWOThey still don't answer the phone even when you give it awhile. THREE when you just drive up there cause they don't answer the phone they act like you are inconveniencing them by asking a simple question like how much for a complete rebuild on a 350...

They were quick about getting the job done and price was good. A little funky to find the front door but the people in the shop were nice about pointing us where we needed to go.

I've always had dismal experiences with machine shops in general. I was pleased to have gone to this shop. Great service, friendly people, and super quick turn-around.
